  1. It's all about the product on the field. When the team(the Bills) has sucked for the last 6 or 7 years, what do you expect. In the case of the Colts, they had just beat the Bills to remain undefeated and they left the dome acting like they just had a death in the family.

Just calling it like I see it.

Well to be fair - beating the Bills (based on our several years of mediocrity) isn't that exciting. And the Colts have had a number of great regular seasons only to have it end in the playoffs (usually at the Pats hands). It's like if the Bills kept dominating in regular season only to be knocked out of the playoffs. Would you get that excited for a win over a team you're expected to beat in regular season?

  2. I actually like Hoge. He may not always be right but at least he's willing to say not every 1st round QB is going to be amazing unlike Salisbury who thinks every first round quarterback is going to be a "superstar" in the league. How many "superstar" QBs are there currently? Let's see Peyton, Brady and maybe Carson (rising superstar). That's about it. But somehow every new draft there are going to be 3 new superstars in the league.

Hoge thought very little of Alex Smith and Rodgers last year (and I agreed with him at the time). So far it looks like his opinion is more accurate than Salisbury who I remember saying both QBs were going to be amazing. Salisbury also raved about all 4 QBs when Losman was drafted. That's when I realized his opinion was not to be trusted. When has there EVER been a hit rate of 100% on 1st round QBs? Even in 1983 - it was 50% and that year has never been replicated.

  3. I'd cut him just so we can stop having press conferences to announce that Favre has still not made a decision. It's pretty annoying. I like the guy but we have been hearing about his "retirement" for the last several years. I don't know if I can take another year of commentators waxing poetically about how this might be Favre's last year...

  4. First of all, the Texans gave him $5 million up front as a signing bonus.  Staying with the Bills would have involved staying for LESS than he could have received elsewhere. So get your facts straight.

Second, if you saw the pathetic excuse for a passing game this team has had over the years, then you would understand his frustrations. One can only hope Fairchild sets things straight in this organization from an offensive standpoint because the team surely needs it.  By going to Houston, Moulds gets to a team that could contend in a few years and has a great offensive-minded head coach.  Cincinnati managed to turn things around in 2 years.  Same can happen in Houston now that they have some solid pieces in place.

The Bills, on the other hand, have an aging defense, an uncertain QB situation for the 10th straight year, a putrid offensive line that has been continuously ignored, and an inexperienced general manager who has been out of football for 10 years.

But yeah.... I hate Moulds!!! He sucks!!!! It's all HIS FAULT!!!!!!

    Bills RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't agree that Moulds is a quitter but I also don't think he left for the money. He received a $5 million signing bonus and $9 million over 4 years. Usually the base salary in the first year is low because of the signing bonus. So let's guess that his salary is $1 million the first year, $2 million in year 2 and $3 million in years 3 and 4. EM was scheduled to make $7+ million this year from the Bills and his agent said he would not take ANY paycut. And I would guess his salary for the next few years was much higher than $2-3 million per year.

We don't know how much of a paycut the Bills were asking but the Texans contract seems very reasonable dollars-wise. I think the Bills would have been happy to give that to him.

I agree with the rest of your post and there is no denying that EM had many other reasons to want to leave (although I'm still disappointed that he did) but I'm pretty sure money was not one of them (sadly, it would actually make me feel better if he did only leave for the money).

  5. Can you word a contract to say "If you are not on a team who plays 8 games per year in Orchard Park, NY you will be paid $53 million, otherwise you may be paid $1 million"?

No but you can say if you are not on a team who plays 8 games per year in Orchard Park, NY your $50 million contract is guaranteed otherwise only $5 million of the $50 million is guaranteed (and the incentive to reach $50 million is winning 5 Super Bowls in a row).

The NFL decided after Wolford that you can't increase the overall value of the contract with a poison pill so Minny made sure the overall value was not increased - just the guaranteed part.

  6. I apologize if this has already been discussed (I have not visited much in the offseason) but I was just thinking during the Pro Bowl yesterday that Larry Johnson would have looked really good in a Bills uniform. He had 1,750 yards in starting 9 games last year - which is pretty crazy. Instead TD took McGahee. Oh well - I guess hindsight is 20/20 but I sure wish we had Larry Johnson instead of "the best running back in the league."

  7. I definitely don't want Carthon. He didn't even call the plays when he was with Dallas - he was not Crennel's first choice in Cleveland and the play calling has been terrible in Cleveland this year (i.e. pass on 3rd and 1 and dumb trick plays).

And I thought Al Saunders and Monte Kiffin have been recruited before and both wanted to stay at their current positions. (I think Saunders has his eye on the HC position once Vermeil retires).

I agree with KOKBILLS - I'd love Herm Edwards.

  8. It's funny - I like CJ as well (so does my husband who is a Browns fan). We're not really sure why we like him and hate TO because he is very similar (i.e. arrogant, show-off). But I think Chad seems so much more good-natured about it whereas TO seems so angry a lot of times. Not really sure though.

Did you hear that the Detroit fans booed when CJ didn't do an endzone celebration last week? They actually wanted him to celebrate scoring against their team.

Unfortunately, I'm expecting a similar score in our game - we seem to be a hundred times worse on the road (and currently we're not that great at home).

  9. Is anyone else worried Spike may want to bail on us? He left the Bengals because he was tired of losing all of the time. I think he's our best player but I don't know if his presence will turn things around for this team. I think we have 2-3 (maybe more) bad years ahead while we build our offensive and defensive lines. I'm worried he'd want to play for a team with a chance at the playoffs - like the Bengals...

  10. Uh no ... of course not <_<

Just kidding. I actually am surprised you didn't make the move back sooner. I had mentioned to my husband several months ago that there was an ex-Browns fan who now rooted for the Bills. He couldn't believe that you didn't come back when they first returned (and share in the misery of Tim Couch and Butch Davis).

I have to admit I don't really understand how you can switch from one team to another. I never lived in Buffalo (raised in Virginia) but I started liking the Bills in the late 80's. (I was a new football fan and the no-huddle offense was exciting.) After the 4 Super Bowl losses and then the last remaining Super Bowl players were cut (Reed, Smith and Thomas), I considered switching to a team closer to my home (like the Redskins or Panthers). But I couldn't do it.

I'm a season ticket holder now (even though I live in D.C.) and made my first visit ever to Buffalo a few years ago. My friends don't really understand why I'm such a fan when I have no connection to Buffalo and I can't even really explain it. But I couldn't imagine switching to another team no matter how bad things get.

  11. I miss Polian every time I watch the Colts play.

This year in particular, the Colts have really reminded me of the Bills of the early 90's. I hope they go undefeated (so the stupid '72 Dolphins can't do their champagne anymore - esp. since they had such an easy schedule that year) and I hope they win a Super Bowl for Polian.

I don't miss Butler/AJ Smith because even though the Chargers are successful - they did leave our salary cap in a mess.
