  1. KtD is right about Marv not playing rookies, and Kelly was horrible in 1996 -- as in possibly-one-of-the-worst-qbs-in-the-league bad: immobile, INT prone, and missing a string of games with a very questionable "groin" injury (after the Monday night massacre in Pittsburgh--I'm sure you remember the rumors). And while he played well in 1995, he was hardly the AFC offensive player of the year. He didn't even make the pro bowl that year. The one year that Moulds disappointed was 1997. He was out of shape and didn't do much (of course, the dreadful Todd Collins was throwing too). Anyway, he was on his way to a great career when it was derailed by a torn groin. And he declined starting in breakout year 6 (2003), not year 3. He was very good in 2002.

In the first five games of 2003, he was off to a monster start: 30 catches for 457 yards 96 catches and 1460 yards prorated). As you'll recall, he was hurt on the play in which he put the game away against the Bengals in OT. He had a great catch and run that put the Bills in position to win it with a short TD run. He was never the same after that tackle, which he was nastily facemasked on. Go to the end of this and check out the play by play: http://www.pro-footb...00310050buf.htm . The primary reason for the Bills collapse that year was the decline of Moulds; the offense had been built around his explosiveness and big play ability. It went from being a good offense to a terrible one overnight.

Having said all of this, you are absolutely right about his qualities as a human being.

The most interesting thing about that game was that Steve Freeman was the back judge, interesting...
  2. about what? Do you have ambitions? Do you want to travel to Prague and meet a callgirl that you can make a bride? Do You capitalize the second word in every sentence in your part of the world? Is That considered proper English in that part? Do You love the Cleveland Clowns too? Are You named after cousin Vito's son? Do You have a feud with the Jets fans where your consigliere beat up an 8 year because he was braggin' about the gabagoul being better at the Meadowlands?

    . What???

Dude, living my life. Don't want to hear about yours.
  3. He's okay but the Bills have up 2 1st round picks to get him!! He better be able to walk on water. I haven't seen him do that yet. I don't know what all the hype is about; he is decent. He has only been the offensive Rookie of the Week 3 times. He's already played 8 games!! A guy that you used 2 1st round picks on should at least be the best offensive rookie in 7 of his 1st 8 weeks. The FO is incompetent.

    One first round pick....
  4. Not like I haven't addressed this issue about Williams about 100 times already, and even as far back as right after he was signed by the team. As most know the O line is a passion of mine, and i follow every move on the subject fairly closely.

Chris Williams had to be one of the absolute worst players obtained in free agency by Doug Whaley by far, as was Greg Legursky the previous year. Both players graded as the very worst players on their respective teams, Rams-Steelers, and not just the worst players on their team. They both graded as two of the very worst players in the NFL. The thing is Williams graded at St Louis with a (-21.8), and even Legursky never graded that poorly.

Under Buddy Nix who signed FA RT Cornell Green to a 3 mill per deal, as one of his first acquisitions in 2010 free agency, and he was benched and cut off the team by week 6 of that year. Buddy Nix then scrambled, and searched the waiver wire and was able to find suitable band-aid players for the line in RT Pears & RG Urbik.

Then when Whaley took over in 2013 his replacement of LG Andy Levitre was Colin Brown, and was another player who was benched and cut by week 6 of last year. Colin Brown graded as the worst player in the NFL and his grade was (-30.1)

Browns backup at OG in David Snow came into the game for one series when Urbik went out with an injury, and immediately allowed a sack, and numerous hits-pressures. He was let go along with Brown, and the guy signed to be the backup center in Legursky was now the starting LG. We know that Legursky graded poorly after he was signed by the Bills, and then went on to solidify that poor grade by being the worst player on that line in 2013.

Whaley doesn't go dumpster diving for any other area of the team, and I'm desperately trying to understand the concept of forcing rookie QB's behind a line with such bad players on it. If not having a veteran QB on the roster, or not having a QB coach for three rookie QB's was a "my bad"!. I'd have to think signing such scrubs for the O line, and ruining one, and possibly ruining two seasons has to be a much worse then just "my bad". Yea, i think the OG position is going to continue to haunt this team the rest of the year.

Whaley had a several ways to bring in players for the O line in free agency, the draft, and undrafted free agents. My beef is he is able to find excellent players for every other area of the team, and tries to scrape the bottom of other teams garbage cans for the O line. I just wanted to understand the thinking behind their process.

But of course you feel the need to jump up and defend the GM, as he had no other alternatives to do other then what he did.

    Who is FART Cornell Green...
  5. The Bills lose to the Bears and Lions without Watkins. 1-4 would feel a lot worse than 3-2. Granted without Watkins our 1st rounder would probably be another 6-10 pick. As it is the 1st rounder the Browns will get will probably be no better than 20th.

    nuff fir me
  6. If 30 owners contribute 25k each, that's 750,000 to that hospital that they didn't have before. I don't think anyone there would criticize him for that donation when it's helping to fight cancer. If I recall Kraft donates quite a bit of money to different charities because his wife passed away due to cancer. So regardless of your view of his less than 1% donation, the world and the nfl needs more people making donations like that, REGARDLESS of the amount.

    A. Not your buddy.

    B. how about Sean Payton who got press for buying like 100 jerseys to help support that players daughters situation. Does that make him a tool? No it makes him a decent human being who is using some of his money to help others.

Stop hating on him because he owns the patriots.

Some things are bigger than football.

    Love Mark on Mark fights...
  7. I really do not understand why so many people are pissed about the QB switch on these boards. There is nothing but upside in this move. EJ may eventually be a better QB than Orton, but he is not right now. The Bills just showed they are willing to do whatever it takes to win now, which should make us all happy as fans. So lets look at potential outcomes.

    1) Orton becomes the second coming of Kurt Warner. With the talent on this team, he is still young enough to play for 5 or 6 years, which would give Buffalo their QB of the future and time to develop another QB, assuming they resign Orton after this year. EJ continues to develop and we have a very solid back up for the next few years and eventually EJ gets another shot sometime in the future.

    2) Orton is an average QB, which makes him much better than EJ (right now) which gives us a chance at winning this season. Orton keeps us in it, EJ has some time to learn from the sidelines and comes back next year more able to lead an offense. If EJ is too delicate to handle a setback like being benched early in his career, than quite frankly, we should know now, because he will never have the mental maturity to be a quality NFL QB. Remember, Orton had a decent rookie year where he started 15 games, only to be benched in year 2. He is still playing and working. We should expect no less from EJ.

    3) Orton is the exact same as EJ. In which case this season is over. Orton plays a few games until we are essentially out of the running, and then EJ comes back in to develop more. Hopefully, the experience helps him and we have our QB of the future.

    4) Orton is the worst QB since B.J Hobert. in which case the season is over and EJ will come back in to develop later in the season. We then see EJ is still bad and not developing which means we are no better off than we are right now from the QB position. At least in this case you showed your veteran team that you were not sacrificing the season on the alter of letting EJ "develop" and you did everything you could right now to win. It does not matter if you like EJ or not, EJ was loosing this team, especially the receivers. if they did not change, there would have been a mutiny eventually.

So at the end of the day, I do not think anyone can argue that the Bills just improved the talent level at the QB position (right now) and the team should be better (right now) because of it. If we are not, then it does not really matter anyway, because EJ will have plenty of time to develop more when the games do not count in November.

Like EJ, dont like EJ - hard to argue this team was going nowhere fast this season with him behind center.

    Good post, Finally some balls!

  8. I'll pile on here, too. You can get Buffalo wings most anywhere. You can get edible wings most anywhere. Many places have flavorful wings---some even interesting. And the longer you are away from Buffalo, the easier it is to get seduced into thinking the wings you are eating are authentic---until you go back to Buffalo. Then you realize you have been eating imitation Buffalo wings all along. We have some places that have good wings. Best in the area. In truth, wings that are close to genuine. But in Buffalo these same places wouldn't be--well, a place where you would order wings. So you can make them at home and get them right, but for a single guy, that's a big mess for a few wings.

Beef on Weck is another thing that places just don't get right. There is a guy from Grand Island who has a beer bar in downtown St Augustine. On Sundays he serves beef on weck. I was VERY excited. This sandwich was so bad, he should have his WNY birth certificate burned. An embarrassment to the beef-on-weck. HORRIBLE!!!! Wrong beef, bad weck roll, dry, cold---absolutely nothing good about it. This was 4-5 years ago, and I'm still pissed off about it. I had a similar experience at a restaurant in Orlando. Except in this case, the beef was OK as was the roll. But they didn't dip the beef in any au jus, or gravy...or anything, So it was cold beef on a dry roll. I tried to send a bit of advice to the kitchen via the server, but she really didn't give a damn.

One of the few places I have had a decent beef on weck (not counting homemade of course) was at a Bills bar in St Pete. Buffalo City Grill (I think). Great place to watch a game and eat beef on weck--- but the wings were just OK. Also there is a new restaurant in World Golf Village that has (or had) beef on weck on the menu but I haven't had the nerve to try it yet. Maybe next week.

Pizza is a tough call. First of all, being from Niagara Falls, I never thought that highly of Buffalo pizza. But clearly is is better than the local pizza in most of the country,. (BTW if you can eat the national chain stuff, and refer to it as "pizza", you have no place in this discussion.) But like craft beer, REAL pizza seems to be available in more and more of the country. Thin crust, coal or wood burning brick oven places are springing up all over the country. Some are better than others, of course. I will try any local place, no matter how dingy it looks, before I get Dominoes/Pizza Hut/Pappa Johns/etc. I've had decent pizza in the oddest places---but you have to eat a lot of bad pies to find a good one. One thing I'll give Buffalo is the stuff is consistent.

Another thing about WNY food is, you can eat whenever you want. Hungry at 2 am? No problem. Driving in the middle of the afternoon and craving a slice? No problem. Boston, San Francisco, LA---they have great restaurants. But try eating late at night (if you aren't near a Chinese restaurant.) Try walking down a street KNOWING there will be a place for some quick hand food (slice, taco, etc) that will be good. Good freaking luck. Only NYC delivers quick, quality (and relatively inexpensive) eats better than Buffalo.

nailed Dean WNY food is the best
  9. How can Buffalo make the playoffs....

the last wild card is wide open with 10 teams in the AFC having 4-6 loses.

Step 1 for buffalo is to get to 2nd place....

How can they get to the point to control their fate.....

    1. They beat Jets and fins at home

    2. Jets and fins split their 2 games left to play

....they give them all 6 loses.....the first tiebreaker is combined head to head. Buffalo would have the edge.

    3. for the division if they can also have Miami beat NE in Miami in week 15 then Buffalo would have the edge in divisional record in tiebreakers.

    4. To get the division if they can win out and get to 9-6 and New England lose 3 of their next 6 games till the finale (one at miami must be one of them, then 2 of their other 5 games--DEN, @ BAL, @ CAR, @ HOU, CLE--in order of the most loseable to least loseable). then the final becomes a winner take all for the division title. If they were to beat Miami and lose another game then it will come down to common record and conference record. BUf looks like they will be noncommon 1-1 If New England lost to both HOU and DEN then they will have the edge there if division record was tied.

    5. With the wild Card----due to tiebreakers they have the edge on Baltimore, lose to Cleveland, Cincinnati, and KC. The best they can do in conference record would be 7-5 which will make tie breakers potentially tough with other teams. I think many of the other teams will end up 9-7 and 7-9 so getting to 10 wins could mean the wild card.

    . I think NE can lose 3 Bal,Den andCar..
