  1. This would have made a better piece:

    * April 2004: Jason Peters is signed as an undrafted free agent.

    * August 2004: Peters is cut and re-signed to the Practice Squad. Any team in the league can now sign him. Many Peters haters point out that the Bills took a risk with Peters and gave him his first chance. But what risk did they really take? They didn't spend a draft pick on him. If they really coveted him why was he cut and placed on the Practice Squad for 3 months, leaving him exposed to other teams? The truth is the Bills had nothing to lose in signing Peters. There is no league-wide interest in Peters at this time so former GM Tom Donahoe must be given credit for signing him but Peters cost the Bills not so much as a draft pick and only as much money as it takes to sign an undrafted free agent.

    * November 2004: Peters is promoted to the active roster largely to play tight end and special teams. To make room for Peters, Constantin Ritzmann is placed on injured reserve.

    * In 2005: Peters beats out former first rounder Mike Williams to start at right tackle.

    * March 2006: Peters is rewarded for his play, signing a five-year, $15 million contract extension. This contract replaces the contract which paid him a total of $461,895 for 2004 and 2005 combined. There are two years remaining on the former contract.

    * In 2006: Peters, seven weeks into his new contract is moved to left tackle, replacing Mike Gandy who is moved inside to left guard. After the season Sports Illustrated's Paul Zimmerman debated selecting Peters to his All-Pro team. "I was rooting for the Bills' Jason Peters, whom I would have loved to pick, but he isn't there yet. Very athletic, but not enough of a roughneck." Clearly Peters is playing at or near a Pro Bowl level.

    * March 2007: Bills re-sign Chris Kelsay to a 4 year, $23 million contract.

    * August 2007: Bills tear up last 3 years of Aaron Schobel's contract and give him 5 year $50 million contract to assure he's the highest paid D lineman on the Bills. Said Schobel "Obviously, I had three years left on my deal so they didn't have to do anything ..."

    * March 2007: Bills sign Derrick Dockery to 7 year $49 million contract.

    * March 2007: Bills sign Langston Walker to a 5 year $25 million contract to play right tackle.

    * January 2008: Jason Peters is selected to the Pro Bowl.

    * June 2008: Bills extend Brad Butler with a 3 year $8.8 million contract with 2 years remaining on his contract.

    * July 2008: Bills extend Kyle Williams with a 3 year $14.4 million contract with 2 years remaining on his contract.

    * July 2008: Bills GM Russ Brandon states that he hasn't spoken with Peters since a late January physical for his sports hernia. He says that he has spoken with Peters' agent Eugene Parker but only with regards to James Hardy contract negotiations. How proactive were the Bills in attempting to dialogue with their best player?

    * January 2009: Peters selected to a second Pro Bowl.

In view of this chronology it's easy to see why Peters became disenchanted with the organization. Also bad advice from his agent (not reporting to workouts and OTAs) and Peters' reticence to speak publicly on these issues hurt him in the court of public opinion. Peters went about it the wrong way but I think he was justified in feeling disrespected by the Bills. It probably reached the point where he didn't want to return, thus the trade to Philadelphia. Too bad for both sides. Except for possible repostings and debate as to whether the Bills got good value in return, this is my final word on the Peters debacle.

Sad ending to another failing Buffalo story...

  2. Don't rule out the Bills trading the 11th. The buzz on Sanchez is heating up and they are in a great position sitting in front of Denver and Washington.

With four picks on day one they could fill holes at DE, LB, OL and TE. There is depth at all positons.

I think Sanchez will be gone before #11......as long as the Bills get one of the top 4 offensive tackles and a defensive end!!!

  3. It is already been reported that the Browns are looking to take Crabtree or Sanchez at 5. Why would they go CB all of the sudden?

Crabtree will be of the draft board (Seattle) and what will the Browns do with three QBs. Are they trading Anderson or Quinn?

  4. Russ Brandon let Peters go because he did not think Peters was worth 11 to 12 million a year. Russ never made the playoffs either.

The Eagles believe Peters is worth 60 million plus giving the Bills a 1st round pick, a 4th round pick and next years 6th round pick. They know how to make the playoffs..... They stole Peters away from the Bills because of poor decision making by Brandon. Where is Brandon going to get a all pro left tackle in the next three years? He won't. Now that he just signed RB Rhodes I bet he will not offer RB Jackson what he is really worth either. That would be 2 1/2 million a year. Not $460,000 they are offering him. Brandon has Jackson between a rock and a hard place. I doubt Jackson will be offered any more money. I am beginning to see why the Bills players are disgruntled. Brandons real job is moving the Bills to Toronto, not improving the Bills on the field of play. He only needs to fill the stands for the next three years and bye bye Buffalo. His other job is to keep as much money in Mr. Wilsons pocket as he can and staying near the middle of the pack in the NFL as he can. It is called medicrity...... That is what the Bills fans are stuck with..

......lots of cheese and not much meat on that sandwich!

  5. I think Buffalo wants the ability to move up in the draft. Trading a pick or player to jump ahead a few spots to guarantee they get the player they want key!! Creating a buzz about Roscoe Parrrish can only help. The Bills have two good returners in Terrence McGee and Leodis McKelvin. They can't trade either of those players...Rosoce is expendable. The Bills still have Bobby April!!!

  7. I agree that a 2nd round pick is probably the best investment. Really, the success of a football team is how you do in rounds 2-4.

The only thing I didn't like about the post....Chris Kelsay was listed as a HIT!

Sure, he is a starter, but he's not a top 50 DE in the league. I can't call a guy picked on day one a HIT if he isn't top 50 at his position in the league.

    I can't argue that.......7 hits and 7 misses

  8. Since 1987 (22 draft classes) the Buffalo Bills have only drafted (3) THREE Offensive Lineman in the first or second round. With two #1's and one #2 it will be very interesting how committed the Buffalo Bills are the offensive line.

    2002 1st Round Mike Williams

    1995 1st Round Ruben Brown

    1992 1st Round John Fina

    Something gotta give!

  9. I got this off buffalorumblings.com:

Judge: Bills turned down first- and third-round picks in 2009

CBS Sports' Clark Judge reported on the trade earlier this afternoon and included this little nugget:

Initially, one source close to the Eagles said, Buffalo considered making the trade for a first- and third-rounder this year but, in the end, held out for three draft picks to give the Bills more flexibility.

The Eagles' third round pick is No. 85 overall - and they've obviously retained that selection. The Bills chose to take an extra pick next season, sacrificing 36 spots in this year's pecking order in the process. Feel free to speculate on possible reasons why - if you're asking me, I think the decision is tied to the ultimate fate of WR Roscoe Parrish, another Bill currently on the trade block.

Not sure if this has been posted, but I couldn't find it. But I apologize in advance if it has been posted.

I thought this was rather interesting and I can see why the Bills did that, but I still think I would've rather had the 3rd instead of the 4th and 6th.

Who is going to return punts..........Leodis McKelvin?

  10. Going back to 1996 the Bills have had 15 picks in the second round (or traded) to move into the first found. The jury is still out on last year's #2 James Hardy, but in my opinion the last 14 picks have been hit and miss!!

    2008

James Hardy Indiana (too early to judge)

    2007

    Paul Posluszny Penn State HIT!

    2006

No Second Round Pick/Moved up to draft John McCargo MISS

    2005

  11. After the huge let down after the good start last year.. I am finally getting excited again. I am so happy we got rid of Peters.. and for great draft picks too!! The addition of Rhodes and T.O. adds huge scoring potential as well.

I am just shocked Buffalo seems to finally be making a serious effort to try to win for a change.

Way to go team!! Can't wait for the draft!!

    Go team! :wallbash:

  12. Free speach. Christopher may or may not be an A-hole and may or may not have a small Wee Wee, I really don't care either way. He has every right to express his opinion and I sort of agree with him. Donte seems like a great guy, and hopefully he is a productive player for the Bills for many seasons. He made a stupid decision in a stressful decision. This does not make him a bad guy automatically. His reaction and threat to sue Cleveland does indicate a lack of brains. He needs to stop it. He needs to admit the mistake, apologize to the Police and move on. This Christopher character seems a bit pricky complaining about the grammar and typo's. It's Facebook not a newspaper.

Freedom of speech should be reserved to those who know how to spell it. (edit) :wallbash:

  13. IMO this is a very “the glass is half empty” time for the Bills organization:

    • We have not sniffed the playoffs in nine years.
    • Everyone in the league knows our coach should have been fired last year but remains because he was given an extension too early.
    • Our front office can’t select a good janitor much less scout football talent
    • Speaking of the front office they completely bungled the Jason Peters deal…time will tell if the trade offers benefits to the Bills but for now the organization seems to be cheap and bumbling.
    • Speaking of the above we continue with the history of swapping one player for another while making no progress … Johnson for Flutie … Losman for Johnson … Edwards for Losman …. Magahee for Henry … Lynch for Magahee it goes on and on. The point is the team has not learned to draft well and do FA acquisitions well.
    • The most recent glory period of the franchise is now becoming a distant memory.
    • A PR guy is running the front office – we will have to see how he spins yet another losing season as the ingredients of a winning one are not on the table.

    What do you think?

    The PR guy signed TO.......
