They have absolutely nothing at WR. Daboll will get fired. It's a weak draft for playmakers. N'Kell Harry with a trade down or I think it's a pass rusher in the top 5. They're the worst team in terms of entertainment value since SF with Smith in his rookie year.
-
The offense is a mess. I'm not sure they've got one WR who'll make the team next year. Still it's one game. I thought the offense would be bad because they've ignored it. Wasn't expecting Joe Flacco to shred the secondary.
-
Hue Jackson is 9-39 as a head coach and 2-35 in his last 37 games. He had no reason to declare Tyrod the starter nor does he have any business being a head coach.
-
Maybe the Bills had a mid-round grade on Jackson. It's all rumors and speculation, but I was told he was off the Bills board. That could mean they weren't taking him in the 1st and they were gonna get one of the top 4 regardless. Just my thinking but McD ran the draft last year and Whaley was on board to buy time. If Allen was the guy they wanted, I've got no problem with McBeane getting him because it's their job on the line. Also the Bills don't draft picks. If they see a guy they want they're gonna try to get him.
-
I think the Bills would've taken Allen if they had the 1 pick. I think Pegula made the pick. Right now the Bills are in a rough spot. I'm glad they got a QB but now they need to add weapons for this offense. Right now I think they've got the worst offensive talent in the league. Next year they've got a boatload of cap space though I anticipate Allen starting by the end of the season.
-
McBeane fired the next day.
-
Get one of the top 4 QB's. Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield, Allen is my order of preference. Drop off from Darnold and Rosen to Mayfield and Allen is big IMO, so I would move up if possible to get one of them at 2 and give up picks rather than wait and see if one falls or they move up to 6.

The crew over at The Buffalo News finally got their act together and started releasing The Tim Graham Show as a full podcast. In the past, for whatever reason, they'd only release a 20 minute segment and try to get people to watch on Facebook Live - which sucked.
Anyway, ESPN's legendary beat reporter Mike Rodak said that he was writing a column - The Best and Worst Draft Picks in Bills History Over the past decade. He asked for listeners to call in and give him suggestions. I think maybe 2 people called in because as great at the show is, no one in Buffalo listens to that second rate radio station 1270 The Fan. As I have pointed out in my very popular "Hits and Misses" columns, the Bills have drafted very poorly. While many of you argued with me and would say that certain draft were actually good selection, I felt vindicated to know that professional journalists like Graham, Rodak, and Jerry Sullivan seemed to think along the same lines.
Rodak is quick to point out that since 1991, only THREE Buffalo Bills draft picks have been named All-Pros. 1 of them wasn't even an All-Pro for the Bills:1992 - Henry Jones
2011- Marcell Dareus
2012 - Marshawn Lynch (For Seattle)
But the best and worst draft picks is an interesting topic because how the many ways that you can interpret those descriptors. Here are my choices:
Worst Draft Picks
1. EJ Manuel - a tremendous miss by Buddy Nix. Never should have been selected with the #1 overall pick, however Nix has no one else to blame but himself for neglecting the position. This draft selection and the team's dedication to EJ really set the franchise back. That's why he is #1 - because the damage that this busted pick caused.
2. Sammy Watkins - this selection is not the worst draft pick from a talent standpoint, but the Bills paid waaaay too much for the return they receiver from Sammy. They gave up two #1 draft picks to again, prove that EJ Manuel could be a good QB. It was ill-advised in 2014 and it completely failed.
3. Aaron Maybin - A top 10 draft pick that records 0 sacks? Absolutely f'n dreadful. The make matters worse, Graham shared a story that Modrak told Dick Jauron he could choose from 3 LB's. Orapko, Cushing, and Maybin. 2 of those players were All-Pros. Guess which one Dick took? The only reason Maybin isn't higher on the list is because he selection didn't set the team back as much as EJ or Sammy.
The Best Draft Picks
1 - Cordy Glenn - A 2nd round selection that turned out to be a cornerstone LT for the Bills. This was a very good pick for Buddy. Unfortunately, after he signed his contract injuries and other issues seemed to impact how available he was. When Cordy played at full health he was very good and is one of the better LT's in the league.
2 - Stephon Gilmore - You can't deny it - Gilmore played very well for the Bills. Yes was never on the level of a Reevis, Sherman or Talib but he did give up some big plays to average (and sometimes below average) wide receivers but overall he lived up to his high draft status.
3 - Stevie Johnson - 7th round draft pick that turned 3 straight 1,000 seasons and energized the fan base. This was a tremendous selection from GM Russ Brandon.
* Marcel Dareus is a close call here because he had 3 very good seasons and then 3 underwhelming years after he signed his fat contract. He definitely deserves consideration
So help out Mike - who are your picks for best and worst over the past decade.
Maybin wasn't good enough to play special teams. He's by far the worst pick of the last decade. They missed on Manuel but how did it set the franchise back? They went with Orton for most of his 2nd season and then Tyrod.
My top two misses are 1. Maybin and 2. T.J. Graham these two were both awful.
The two best picks were 1. Stevie 2. Eric Wood.

SCOUT'S NOTEBOOK
Top-five QBs? Not So Fast
The draft stock of 2018's top passers -- Josh Allen, Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen -- has seemingly never been higher. Bucky Brooks explains why we may be overvaluing QBs and gives his latest top-10 ranking.Former NFL player and scout Bucky Brooks knows the ins and outs of this league, providing keen insight in his notebook. The topics of this edition include:
-- How the Jason Pierre-Paul trade impacts the Bucs' and Giants' draft plans.
-- Bill Belichick's magic hand in the offseason.
-- Has time run out for Dez Bryant?
But first, a warning about passing on future stars to draft a quarterback ...
* * * * *
Reviewing my notes from the fall, I believe there are only two quarterbacks worthy of top-10 grades, and they don't rank within my top five overall prospects. Here's my top 10 right now:
1) Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State
2) Bradley Chubb, DE, N.C. State
3) Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State
4) Tremaine Edmunds, LB, Virginia Tech
5) Quenton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame
6) Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama
7) Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
8) Sam Darnold, QB, USC
9) Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia
10) Derwin James, S, Florida StateWhat's the value of a great rb? Two guys in his top 10 could alter the course of a franchise and they're Rosen and Darnold. The best thing for the Bills would be for the Giants to take Barkley or Chubb. The worst thing the Giants could do would be drafting Chubb or Barkley.
Get the QB and worry about everything else. If you miss, oh well. Not like other positions couldn't bust.

Hue Jackson is 1-31 with the Browns. He didn't have to come out and say Tyrod will be the starter now. Chances are he'd start, but my guess is Jackson is out of a job by mid-season and Tyrod is on the bench.

These are smart NFL men. They are here for the LONG TERM! Trading away two #1 picks and more isn't their style. ESPECIALLY when there is NO standout Quarterback in this draft. NO Manning, NO Luck and NO Newton. It's a crap shoot and everybody knows that.
Get a CB, LB or DL in the first Round. Grab a QB like Rudolph, Falk or Lauletta in the 2nd. With the other 2nd rounder get a RB or WR. I can't image what we can do with two 3's, a 4 and two 5's to fill-out our needs.
Then take a look at Glennon, Bradford or Bridgewater for $7-8 mil as a veteran presence at QB. We'll have Free Agency for the O-Line.
We've become a SMART organization! It's very nice!

If they wanna put their time in Buffalo on a free agent that's not Cousins than they're hoping to be Marvin Lewis and the Bengals. Whoever they take whether it trading up or waiting til the 2nd, which is the latest I could see them doing will start games next year. Taking a guy in the 1st or trading up gives the franchise a guy.
Say the Bills would've taken Watson or Mahomes and they got the capital minus the 1st they acquired to trade down. I think we're excited and expectations are higher for 2018. This is with White being a stud.

Seems crazy now, but those reports weren’t complete BS. I know for a fact there were high ranking FO personnel within the Colts who were struggling with that decision and said RG3 was the best player they had ever scouted.
Griffin was great as a rookie. Then Washington was running read option with him on one leg in the playoffs. Also same draft they take another QB in the 4th in Cousins. I consider the 5th on as guys if they contribute it's a bonus and if they pan out it's a good pick. They traded up for Griffin and took another QB in the mid-rds. To me the mental make-up of Griffin killed his career.
We're not looking at Jeff Tuel in terms of arm strength early in the draft. I think the guys considered in the 1st generally have the arm strength. I'd love Bills to move up for Darnold or Rosen because I want guys after the first read is gone they're not lost. I think the running QB thing is an easy thing to point out when criticizing QB's. As Bills fans we watched Taylor run around and some would say defenses figured him out. I'd argue that Taylor and some others trusted their legs more than their arm and decision making which allows them to make the big play after buying time. Though plays are open it's just they're slow read QB's.
The ideal situation for the Bills is the Browns take Allen and the Giants take Barkley. If this were to happen and the Bills don't make a move to get a QB than I question the front office. I couldn't think of a worse situation than the Bills not ending up with one of the top 6 QB's.
-
1. Darnold
2. Rosen I think the gap between these two and the rest of the QB's in the draft is significant.
3. Allen
4. Rudolph
5. Mayfield
If the Browns pass on Darnold or Rosen for Mayfield or Allen I think the Bills are moving up. If not I could see the top 6 gone before the Bills pick.

You don’t draft 2 QBs. You use the resources to go get a QB. You must understand that? That’s why the Eagles, Rams, etc... trades up instead of staying put and taking whatever was left and another later.
I agree to an extent. After 5th rd maybe even after 4th if the guy is on the roster in two years it's a decent pick. If it costs both 1sts a 2nd and a later rd pick to move up to get Darnold or Rosen I'd rather do that than take 2 QB's.
Draft capital to me is like a new car. It's always more valuable until a player is picked.

If they stay at 21 and 22 I'll say Christian Kirk and Mason Rudolph. If they're able to package two 1sts and a 2nd for Darnold or Rosen I'd be all for it.

I think 6 QB's will go in the first rd. Not sure how that can be considered unimpressive.

Anybody with McDermott connections that would want to be offensive coordinator under him? I can't imagine Dennison was his first choice. Or even his second. He probably had to settle for him.
That being said, it is tough to really get a feel for Dennison given the lack of passing ability he has to deal with.
Mike McCoy was their first choice if rumors were correct.

I refuse to believe anyone could be worse than Wayne Fontes or Kay Stephenson ???
Richie Kotite, Marty Morhinweig, Ray Rhodes, still 1-31 and he may have a job is incredible.

Some team will and it will be a defensive minded team. If you can put TT behind a team with a good ground game and lights out defense some team will value his ability to protect the ball. He's capable enough to take a team like this deep into the playoffs. I think Denver is a logical choice while they search for their long-term answer. I think he could fetch anywhere from as high as 4th rounder to no lower than a 6th.
He'll be starting somewhere
I anticipate him starting the first few games then going to the bench in favor of a rookie. Teams would rather go for the unknown than the known. Also guys like Bridgewater, Bradford, McCown, Keenum, Cousins, McCarron, maybe Dalton will be in play.
-
Maybe a team with a new QB trades a 6th or 7th rd pick for him to start for a few games. I think he's most likely a back-up next year.
-
Tyrod will have an opportunity to go somewhere and compete for a starting job. I'm just not sure where. Maybe Cleveland or Denver, but I don't think he finishes next season as a starting QB.
-
I think it'll be Peterman and if I had to guess it'll be similar to the Texans situation at the start of the season.
-
The Sabres are worse than the team that tanked. It will be hard for the Bills to fail as hard as the Sabres have. It's vs New England nobody is expecting much. The Sabres have scored one goal in four games.

They have no playmakers on offense. I hate the idea of drafting offensive line early. The Bills have the worst passing game I can remember so I expect them to draft defense. Gotta control the line of scrimmage and play ground and pound like it's 1950. Aside from Zay Jones who is a 4 WR on most teams what skill position player from offense comes back?
