  1. I get the feeling Josh Reed is going to be a very good, dependable football player for some team out there. I just don't feel he ever played in a godd enough offense.

I too thought that the *Patriots picked him up. I remember thinking...."Great, he's gonna light us up next year"

  2. Listen.....who gives a rat's ass if he comes back or not....strategically, for one year.....so what........if the guy is contemplating retirement, he is not going to help this team either way. So what if he comes back this year......he'll only retire next year. What will that give us? He's not like a missing piece to a puzzle for a championship anyway. They already drafted plenty of D- line/LB help in anticipation of him not being here, and next draft will do the same, b/c even with him here, we still lacked ideal pass rush threat.....trust me.

One more thing......who was the biggest star on this team????....The only proven one is our PUNTER. Sorry, but this team needs a lot of work. A freaking punter is our most consistent and valuable player.

wake up Bills fans and stop worrying about Schobel.

And on the subject of his restaurant...have any of you been to New Braunfels???? I have.....it is a dead spot in Texas.....it is a seasonal anomoly....people go there for a certain time of year to go tubing down the Guadelupe...THAT's IT. It's not Dallas, ok.....here is the pic on google maps of this location...I was there years ago and nothing has changed

  3. Sorry man, my bad. What was I thinking?

Actually I'm thinking much more clearly than anyone that thinks that any GM or Coach in a situation like the Bills have been in the last 10 years, would wait until the 7th round to pick a QB that they thought had a real chance to start in the future for their currently pathetic team.

You disagree? Would YOU do that? You wouldn't even spend a 5th round pick on the guy you have hopes to be your future starter, and your team's QB's have blown for 10 years?

Really, I would like to hear a logical answer to that.

Sure the Patriots might have looked at the board and noticed that Brady was still around, and taken a flyer on him (that's what you do with your 6th, 7th round QB picks), but they likely thought that he MIGHT make a nice BACKUP QB someday, because he had some of the qualities that they wanted in a QB (tall, good leadership). THEY GOT REAL LUCKY.

These Bills are a whole 'nother story.

If the Bills had their eye on this guy the whole time but just let him sit there for any of the other QB desperate teams to pick him, they would have to be idiots.

They took a flyer. I don't think they are expecting him to be the QB of the future, I think they hadn't picked a QB yet, and he was the highest rated QB left on their board, so they chose him.

Those QB's you listed? Obviously no teams thought very highly of them, but people on this board are making statements about how Nix and Gailey must have really seen something special in Levi Brown, and I think that is silly. Some kind of wishful thinking that is being projected onto the situation.

The quarterback situation is actually DIRE. Same guys as last year, none of whom have accomplished much at all, and most likely, another season of field goals, and generally DULL football from our Bills.

Most logical post so far....but I do believe bad teams can have an exciting offense. And with the addition of Spiller and Chan's offensive philosophy, I think they will be pretty dynamic, even if we end up losing most of our games.

People seem to forget that with even a pretty good defense, when we played good offense on rare occasion (patriots, cowboys) our defense/ST's let up at times as well.

  4. Chemistry, it can be a B word, especially with a Ryan at the helm.

    This makes no sense, respectfully.

The guy coached them to the playoffs, started a rookie QB, and had a stellar D. Please explain the downside of having this coach in the AFC East?

  5. i think this is a valid question. Up until this offseason, I never heard Edwards say what he did until now. He said (paraphrasing) "I was told so many different things from different coaches....and I needed one voice....one direction". That's saying a mouthful.....I believe him when he says that. Does anyone remember this ?: WE FIRED OUR OC A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THE START OF THE SEASON!!!!

It was refreshing to hear Trent say what I suspected all olong.

  6. Your adoration for Brohm is known, but this post is a classic case of spin.

Those fans don't know much about him? They know more than we do.

Others talk about him as if he was there for more than 1.5 years? They did get to see him for 2 training camps, and that's 2 more than we got see from him here.

"He has been so far off the radar, even in GB because of the emergence of Rodgers ..."

Are you honestly trying to stay that GB literally FORGOT about Brohm because Rodgers panned out? Seriously?

But they paid attention to the seventh round pick Flynn?

"NO ONE, not even the GB Packers staff, really knows where he is at in his development."

"In fact, our staff is about the only people who can really say for sure if the kid is progressing or not as they have seen him how he is now in practice."

Oh, come on. Brohm spent 2 training camps in GB, and the coaches there got a first hand view of how the kid played in preseason. They know what plays were called, and they know he reacted during those plays.

But only the Buffalo staff knows anything about him because of some OTA's?

Let's see how he reacts when the pads are on, and they are hitting.

Having him running around in shorts playing catch with the WR won't tell the staff a whole lot regarding his ability to play during a game.

Yeah, the Bills were so confident with those 3 they contacted the Eagles about trading for McNabb.

I like Brohm (at this point) because he is not Edwards or Fitzpatrick, but I think this is Brohm's last chance.

Either he stands up and shows the Bills he CAN lead this team* forward, or I expect the Bills will be looking for a QB next off season.

*Winning the QB battle will not cut it. He needs to play like a franchise QB.

I understand most of what you are saying, but McNabb.....are you serious???? He is an instant upgrade to about 65 to 70% of the entire league. If you, as a GM, do not show interest in him, you are not looking to better or solidify your team.

  7. Jim Kelly and/or Joe Montana would have sucked behind this offensive line. If any line ever was "Offensive" it is this one.

anyone think the O-line and QB play on this team last year (and the other years under DJ) were a direct result of bad coaching/game planning/conservative calls? I do...in fact I think it had more to do with that than the QB's themselves. If we win the Dallas MN game, the opener against the Pats, or any other close game, TE looks a lot better to the expert fans on this board.

Teams tend to take on the personality of their coach.....DJ....great pass defense (although lack of pass rush) and totally mystifying decisions in critical situations....the offense played like a team afraid to make a mistake, inturn making HUGE mistakes. This offense had DJ's stank all over it. Not to mention they fired their OC right before the season opener!!!

I think these guys will play better with a different HC and offensive philosophy.

    my $0.02

  8. I was working here in Ptown about 3.5 years ago and found the Bills Backer bar of choice here on TSW. I went and watched a couple games, met some GREAT Bills fans too....some from WNY and some from abroad. Good times. But it just did not feel like a Bills Bar......it was nore like a bar that tolerated Bills fans and a backer bunch. But this year, I found a real Bills bar. "The Cheerful Bullpen". I am living/working in a suburb, 20 minutes or so from Portland. So I took the light rail in and it drops me right at the doorstep of this bar. I was thirsty, so decided to grab a beer at this place. The entrance has a Bills floor mat....and when I walked in, there are Bills memeorabelia and posters everywhere. The two bartenders were even wearing Bills shirts.....Bills gear in April??? I found my new home for watching the games this year.

    Go Bills!!

  9. NFL hands down. ESPN Shouldn't be allowed to cover the draft any longer

HAHAHA!!! that's awesome.....I can see Godell stripping them of Draft Coverage rights "I am imposing a suspension of 3 years on ESPN from covering the draft"

I watched NFLN for day two and three.....ESPN day one (not by choice)....I say NFLN was way better at it, as they have been the last couple years I have watched them.

  10. Unbelievable......I just posted about him at the same time.

    He knows his stuff.

Corey has been a draft addict for many years now. I have read and seen interviews with him while he was still playing, back when he was a Cardinal. Since he was a kid, he said he has studied and catalogued a lot of film relating to football. He has his own draft website called draftnasty. I remember watching him as a guest on the draft years back when Berman and ESPN were the only network covering it. He'd be an excellent evaluator for NFL teams if he retires.....i think he is still techinacally a FA (?)

He studies prospects with a great deal of scrutiny to small details. These details often are the difference in reality vs. perception when it comes to the unknowns surrounding NFL prospects.

  11. How about Lynch straight up for Clay Matthews Jr? lol

Buffalo will be lucky to get a 4th round pick next year for Lynch

which is exactly why he should remain on the team....he's a really good runningback, people seem to forget that.....hey, we have a good stable of backs, what's wrong with that?

  12. What I'm concerned about here is the lack of consistentcy from Gailey. We bring in an offensive minded guy, but go all D in ge draft except the one position we are good at. Not great, but serviceable and good. Also, we take. Guy being compared to Reggie Bush, who didn't shown much of anything until he had more offensive talent around him.

We get our NT in round 2. Can't complain

But then in the third, we draft a guy who again is depth. Even if he turns out to be immediately great, we already have Stroud, Williams, and the guy we bought from Baltimore. Like Spiller, this may be a improvement and depth, but not a need.

Yes, I like our size against the run, but what does that mean? We lose games 3-0 cause we still can't score?

What bothers me is Nix saying that there isn't a Qb or OT worthy of their pick at the time. I'm sorry, but OT's are coming off the board all around us. Are you implying that they are all busts and those GM's are just throwing away their picks.

With that, if Spiller is so great, why did Washington, Seattle, and Cleveland pass on him? They all have expressed need at HB but went with other guys.

I agree with some of you out there that Nix and Gailey have tunnel vision. They have committed to a 3 year rebuilding process. Picked one aspect to fix now, and ignore all other options. And I'm not okay with that. We've been rebuilding for 10 years. Different picks could have been made to still rebuild, but make us more competitive on both sides of the ball, and simply strengthen each year.

I hope I'm wrong and they have some faith in some guys at OT and QB because there is no way you can sell me on the Trent Edwards and Demetrius Bell Kool-Aid this year.

in the league today, especially in a 3-4, this should not be viewed as "depth". These guys will be in a rotation. Schobel might retire, and even if he doesn't this year, he will soon. I really don't see Carrington as depth, but part of the rotation.

  13. I wonder how FJ managed 4.5 yards per carry? <_<

CJ Spiller is 5'11". I've seen this 5'9" stuff on the board here a lot. He's 5'11" (5'10" 5/8 to be precise)

    Running Back

    95

A premier college player with all the physical tools to take over a game and play at a championship level. He demonstrates elite-to-rare NFL potential and rates in the top 5 players nationally at his position. A prospect with a grade of 99 or 100 is rare. Prospects carrying grades between 92-98 are considered mid-to-high first rounders, while prospects grading out between 90-91 are fringe first rounders.

    Overall Football Traits

    Production 1 2006: (13/1) 129 carries, 938 yards (7.3 avg.), 10 TD; 19 catches, 210 yards, 2 TDs; 11 PR, 33 yards (3.0); 13 KOR, 234 yards (18.0 avg.). 2007: (13/5) 145 carries, 768 yards (5.3 avg.), 3 TD; 34 catches, 271 yards, 2 TD; 16 PR, 137 yards (8.6 avg.); 19 KOR, 547 yards (28.8), 2 TD. 2008: (12/1) 116 carries, 629 yards (5.4 avg.), 7 TD; 34 catches, 436 yards, 3 TD; 1 for 1 passing, 15 yards, TD; 18 PR, 189 yards (10.5 avg.); 19 KOR, 516 yards (27.2). 2009: (14/12) 216 carries, 1,212 yards (5.6 avg.), 12 TD; 36 catches, 503 yards, 4 TD; 1 for 2 passing, 17 yards, 1 TD; 8 PR, 210 yards (26.3 avg.), 1 TD; 23 KOR, 755 yards (32.8), 4 TD. Career: Seven kickoff return TDs are an NCAA record.

Height-Weight-Speed 2 Prototypical height but lean. Could stand to add about 10 pounds to his frame if possible without losing exceptional top-end speed (2nd fasted 40 time of RB's at this year's combine and it translates to the field).

Durability 4 Slight frame adds to existing durability issues. Slowed by turf toe and hamstring injuries in 2009. Pulls hamstring during first half of the 2008 Wake Forest game and misses Georgia Tech game with injury. Misses most of second half of 2008 Boston College game with what appeared to be a head injury.

Intangibles 2 Coaches and teammates rave about his football character. First-team Academic All-ACC and made Dean's List in the first semester of 2008. First Clemson back to make All-ACC on the field and in the classroom in the same semester. Graduated in three-and-a-half years. Flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct with team trailing by two points in fourth quarter of the 2009 Gator Bowl. Held out of most of 2009 spring practices so he could focus on track.

    Running Back Specific Traits

Competitiveness 1 Fights for yards after contact, tougher to tackle than his size suggests. Plays with emotion and isn't afraid to get in defenders' faces. Fights for the ball when it's in the air and isn't afraid to expose frame to big hit when competing for jump balls.

Vision/Patience 3 Vision in open field is better than between the tackles. Appears hesitant at times and will get caught dancing in the backfield. However, he does an adequate job of locating seams and setting up blocks, especially when attacking the perimeter.

Inside Runner 3 Lacks the leg drive necessary to push the pile in short-yardage situations. Not a downhill runner and can get caught dancing in the hole. Will not break many arm tackles and goes down too easily at times. However, he possesses excellent balance and lateral agility, which will allow him to succeed in this area of the NFL game. Displays elite burst through the line of scrimmage when he catches a crease. Explodes to the second level and can run away from defenders.

Outside Runner 1 Turns the corner in a flash and shows a second gear when gets into space. Great body control when turning the corner. Changes directions quickly and is elusive enough to make multiple defenders miss in space.

Passing Game 1 A potential difference maker as a pass catcher. Has experience lining up in slot and splitting out wide. Above average route runner for his position. Can adjust to the poorly thrown ball and displays consistent ability to track the ball over his shoulder. Excellent acceleration and is a huge threat in the open field after the catch. Willing pass blocker.

    1 = Exceptional2 = Above average3 = Average4 = Below average5 = Marginal

seriously, when you are wearing a helmet and pads and cleats and running 15 yards apart from the nearest defender, 5'10, 5'11, and 6'0 are pretty much the same. HA HA....yeah, he is dwarfed by all the great 6'2 RB's in the league.....gimme a f*cking break people

  14. The Bills addresed the deficiencies at the QB position/Offense by selecting Spiller....a guy that will make a QB/Offense look better on day one.

If it's true that Gailey can get the best out of mediocre QB's (Tomszack, Fiedler, Stewart, Thigpen), then maybe the Bills think he can do the same with.....no, not an unproven rookie QB.....but with the QB's he currently has on staff. Remember, with the names above, he did not draft any of them, he inherited them. So, I believe he can do the same with the current Bills QB's, namely Edwards....

    That is my best guess.

So, with their Rd 2 pick, I don't expect them to take or move up to select Clausen or McCoy. Why would they? If the current QB's on the roster are a question mark, then the rookies-to-be are even more of a question mark.

Look for them to take an OT, DT, OLB/DE, or WR.

My prediction: Kindle or Charles Brown

    Comments?

  15. Definitely agree, but someone has to get an explanation on his reaction. He did not appear to be exited at all to have the Bills call his name.

In his Mock Draft 3.0, he had the Bills taking Clausen at #9

  16. also, I need to ask, did anyone else see Berman lose his cool? it was during the Tebow pick (actually right before).....ESPN was seguing in from a "feel good draft flashback" but the camera was on the crew too early I suppose, and caught Gruden saying to Kyper something to the affect of "....they should say its a crazy league with a lot of dumb ass ....(picks?)...." and Kiper starts cracking up as Berman tries to distract and pull things together. It was pretty funny...then even funnier was another time where Berman started freaking out b/c the camera was on them while they were talking "off mic". Good stuff...unitentional comedy...

I was drinking quite heavily at the time, so maybe I am not recounting it very accurately

  17. He may be the most explosive and productive non-Qb offensive player in the draft...yet there are whiners.

The OT that we targeted as first round worthy were off the board...yet there are whiners

Clausen, who many here wanted at 9 is still available....hopefully you aren't the ones still whining

It seems like the Bills are ready to limit Lynch or trade him....do the complainers realize this (did you watch Lynch run last year, very uninspiring)

Wood and Levitre and Byrd were picked after our first pick last year, I think they were good ones. Yet so many here are judging this draft as a bust

And the kicker! What if we were all fans of the Denver Broncos! This board would crash so hard, to pay that price for Tebow....oh mama.

I like the pick and am really interested to see what we do tomorrow...I am betting that many here will be in love with Spiller by October, especially fast Freddy!

word! I think this pick is the epitome of professionals doing what they do best and not worrying about the negative feedback by those who think they know what is better for a team vs. the one's who actually have studied what will help the team most.

This was, in their eyes (and mine) the best player there at that pick.

The Jets have the best D and DB in the AFCE and no one seems to be crying about the CB they took.
