  1. Glorious news was released today when it was announced that my beloved Buffalo Bills would be changing their uniforms for the 2011 season (if it is, in fact, played). In 2002, under the direction of clueless general manager Tom Donahoe, the Bills' uniforms became among the NFL's worst of all-time.

Here is my attempt to fix them, using the description released by the Bills today as "incorporating the team’s storied history while keeping the team’s signature charging buffalo logo".

Click here to see the Uniforms.

    What I did:

Unified the Striping Pattern: With today's shrinking NFL sleeves, the 4-stripe pattern used on the Bills AFL throbacks simply look goofy on most cuts of jersey. So I went with a new striping system using a single red stripe outlined by another stripe 2x the thickness (white on blue background, blue on white background). This applies to the stripes on the helmet, sleeves, pants and socks.

Helmet from '76-83: Only change being a thinner red stripe.

OJ-Era Blue Road Pants: Complete with red belts and white laces

Champion-style Block Numerals & Thick, Rounded Name font: A la the Kelly-Era Bills

    • Added a small BILLS wordmark under the collar, and returned to white shoes.

I think this blends the history of the team well, cleaning up some inconsistencies returning the Bills to a unique, timeless look in the league. Looking forward to hearing everyones thoughts. They might still play like crap for the next few years, but at least they won't look like it.

Now those are uniforms! That is exactlty what I want them to look like. I always thought the white helmets looked the classiest....besides....white=snow=Buffalo! Look for them to be a combo of that old style and a touch of new flair (like the Chargers did).

Hopefully Buddy had something to do with what they did out west.

Thanks for sharing....I hope we get our wish.

  2. The answer is pretty clear - mandatory mouth gaurds go to the Kelso Helmet. There was a study about Pee Wee kids wearign the Kelso and it reduced their risk 805 Or something. Mouthgaurds have been used for years and are required in every other level of the sport so they are nothing new.

The science beind concusions are sudden impacts. Having a hard exterior shell is not the best way - which is why boxing helemts dont have a hard exterior shell.

This article makes a strong case for the Kelso (Great Gazoo) helmet.

  3. Did you watch the game today? That's the way it should be done? WIth a lot of luck and mistakes by the other team?

I mean, I watched Jimbo and Bruce capitalize on mistakes and get lucky in certain games, but that's not "the way it should be done."

denial.....it's not just for breakfast anymore

    i agree with darth

  4. I'm sorry....but I still will never grasp the audacity of 0-5 Bills fans who hate on the Jets for having more success. One play? Remember "the Comeback"? When Beebe stepped out of bounds before scoring a TD? "Ha!"

    Silly....just downright silly.

The Jets are better.....light years better than the Bills right now......deal with it.

  5. interesting....watch this video with Josh Cribbs, the other recipient of "evil" James Harrsion's hits.....

About the hit on him, and many helmet to helmet hits, he says exactly what I said about the hit on Massaquoi. A LOT OF TIMES, a pleayer preparing to hit another player does not know where the recipient's head is going to be at time of impact.....is he staying straight up, making a cut, or will he LOWER his own head?

  6. ok, ya we are 0-5. holy ****, i know we all hate losing, but all that is on this board is negative **** about buffalo. We have a guy already saying CJ is a bust... I MEAN WHAT THE !@#$!!!

So im tired of reading all this stupid horrible posts about bills. (i know someone will say dont read them then :) ) I love my bills, i dont care if we go 0-16 or if we win out all the rest of our games, i still wear my Bills hat out here in california, proud to be a bills fan. I remember i made fun of all the dolphin fans when i lived in miami, because they loved the dolphins when they were good, and they hated them when they sucked. I mean, they are the biggest band wagon fans i have seen (well patriot fans are big too). Back to the point, and i always told them, bills fans are the best because we always stick by our team no matter what. Buffalo we eat and drink football/hockey up, and they made me who i am.

I kind of hope we go 0-16 now, so i can still see the people who love the bills, still wear their hats with pride.

So now that i got all that out, lets think happy thoughts. What was your favorite memory of the bills?!

Mine was my first training camp experience. I still have my hat and shirt that i have signed. Everyone except, reed and thurman (they ran out the back.. bastards :) ) I remember kelly hitting some girl with his golf cart and he gave her a bunch of stuff, then my brothers tried to push me into the cart so i can get stuff too. :) but ya, the was my fondest memory of the bills.

it has nothing to do with the "negative vibes" of Bills Fans. But it has everything to do with this:

    http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/121918-bills-situation-beyond-hope/

and as for fond Bills memories, I posted one earlier titled Buffalo vs. San Fran

  7. Arguably one of the best games I ever watched over the years. This is a great summary video.

3 things I loved most about this game:

    1. Thurman was the ultimate offensive weapon in his prime

    2. Kelly knew how to use a TE. Pete was not known as a huge receiving threat in college, although he was well rounded. But look at how awesome a smart QB like Kelly can make a TE with basically no speed look.

    3. Marv's call to go for it on 4th and 4.

    enjoy

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mgw6wTONA4Y

  8. Schlereth doesn't get it. As most of them do, they're lumping together very violent and excessively violent.

And while violence is the basis of the sport, excessive violence could easily be eliminated without destroying the game.

The world is changing, and the NFL has the choice of changing or being left behind. Unless they do this, they are going to start to be sued by guys who suffered egregious, unnecessarily violent hits, and because the NFL had done nothing (till now) to prevent it, the NFL would have lost those lawsuits.

I don't believe you did, because if you did, there'd be no argument. If "dirty" means against the rules, then all three of those controversial plays were dirty. Because they broke the rule about protecting defenseless players.

The NFL is just trying to eliminate stuff they long ago decided was illegal. The people who are all heated up about it, and that includes Schlereth and you, are missing that the rules already contained language that made those hits illegal, and thus dirty.

Of course there are opportunities for problems. Of course officials may make mistakes in enforcing this rule. Name one rule change anywhere in NFL history where that's not true. You can't pass only rules which have no potential for mistakes in enforcement. If you do that, you'd never pass another rule of any kind.

watch the hit against Massaquoi over and over again. The announcer says he was "defenseless....looking for the football". B/S....this guy cathces the ball (it's in his hnads anyway) and Harison is trying to time the hit to "seperate" the player from the ball. Look at where the WR's body is when the ball touches his hands.....look at where Harrison is and the position he is taking at that time (preparing to launch).....the WR turns towards him and begins LOWERING his body. Harrison is alread in launch mode! This is not defenseless. And if it is than tough sh*t. Harrison is supposed to recognize this and ease up until the WR can turn around, see him, prepare for the hit? If this is the course of action they expect the defenders to take, than guess what....that WR gets a completion and tackled. Big difference.

You gotta look at the plays agsin...the speed of the game does not make it possible to adjust the long taught hitting techniques employed by NFL players.

  9. I have NEVER EVER liked this guy...but I have a new found respect for him, after seeing this video.

    http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5706315

I whole-heartedly agree with him...both on the stance of the hits and on the stance of taking care of former players.

THE NFL NEEDS TO REVISIT SOME THINGS AND GET IT RIGHT! :censored:

You beat me to it, because I was going to say the exact same thing. He is spot on and i applaud him calling out the hypocrisy of the NFL moneymakers. They can't have it both ways. James Harrison nails people and gets DPOY award. The NFL promotes all this, we eat it up b/c face it, we love seeing intense hits. They feed this style into the players when they are in HS and they look for that killer instinct in college. They draft, make stars of these guys, and they reward them. He lays out 2 Browns in one game, they sold pics of the hits on their website. Then they turn around and steal money from the guy??? They made their bucks on both sides.

I'm glad Schlereth spoke up. He is not sitting there trying to ride the fence and please fans and the NFL (or NHL as he puts it). He blasted the league that pays his checks pretty much. He's right in everything he said.

Lets not also forget "Jacked Up!" Remember that? Yeah, we loved it...I did, I know that....and so did the NFL bean counters.

Imagine this in Hank Williams Jr's voice: "Are you ready for some Flag Footbaaaaalllllll???"

  10. Thanks John, I have been waiting to see if this guy would talk to anyone in the media.

That being said, his words only prove what many of us already knew; he doesn't have a clue what's going on, he doesn't care much, and he does not let his staff do their jobs in the process.

He talks about it taking 3 years and that the fans should have P&P like they are children who have no clue about professional football? This 3 year period that he says he "has been saying all along" didn't happen to be heard about when they upped the ticket prices yet again. What a slap in the collective face of all Bills fans.

He's sending Buddy out now to go scout QB's????? The Bills should already have more info on more college QB's than any other team in the league. After all, they "knew" none of the other QB's after Bradford was worth picking in rounds 1 - 6.

When he chuckled and said the fans shouldn't worry about him dying, well, Mr Wilson, it's not so much your death that worries them, it's what happens to the team in Buffalo as a result of it.

  11. I like the idea. TE or Safety. Guy is athletic, just not a DL or LB.

You both are kidding right? The TE's we have on this team are not cutting it and it's been their craft through college and now the pros. So what makes you think Arrant Maybe might make a good TE? His "body, size, and athleticism"? What in the Wide World of Sports are some of you thinking?

To be a TE, you need to be able to run routes, shed db's and lb's, have good hands (you know, for catching and stuff), block oncoming defenders (the guy can't even get around slower offensive linemen!), and be unselfish enough to stick your nose in and do some real dirty work.

This is one first round draft pick you cut your losses with. Trade him for ANYTHING. I'm sure someone will take a shot if they only had to part with some future picks.....either that, or involve him in a package deal. A first round pick that can't even make ST's? He spends most of his time on the bench, what good is he doing you anyway?

That would be a huge statement for a new regime looking to infuse their identity into their team.

  12. So you can't draw positives from a loss? Get real, not everything is ****.

No, I can't and I won't. Go ask Chan Gaily off the record if he has positives from this one. What positives did yoiu draw from it? And when you weigh those positives, do so against the negatives. Basic math should pretty much take over.....but then again that Kool-Aid does go down good after another loss......nice tall glass.....bottoms up!

  13. Being critical of an average player being picked too high does not translate to hate. What is true here is that the Bills have no real threat at TE, can't defend against TE's this year, and the TE that scored 2 TD's against them today was drafted 20 picks after Whitner. Truth hurts more than "hate"

  14. Positives? This is another myth from the undying "faithful". Look, Bills fans.....there are no positives to losing at home, going 0-5, and being worse than anyone ever thought, even if you buy into the whole "rebuilding = losses" mantra.

Freddie Jackson is the team's best offensive player. I expect him to have a good game.....and some TD's.

Steve Johnson???? Celebrating as if he were a Pro Bowler on a winning team with an insurmountable lead when in fact all point to the extreme opposite? You call this a positive?

Keep telling yourself that. I gotta give you credit....you have precisely what it takes to be a Bills fan in this decade.

  15. I predict one team will win.

Jones-Drew's legs will fall off at the Bills 35 yard line in the 3rd quarter. He will then rush for 83 more yards on his hands to finish the game with a total of 353 yards.

Mercedes Lewis will pitch in with just 9 catches for 105 yards and 2 TD's.

The Bills will mount a serious comeback in the 4th to come within 27 points of Jax. This will be due to that pv$$y David Gerard taking himself out of the game to rest his sore throwing arm, which will lead to Trent coming in and getting intercepted by Kyle William on three consecutive series.

    Jags by 27.

    Heard it here first

  16. You're either a fan or you're not. I'm 48 years old. I've been following this team since I was old enough to understand the game.

That includes the '84-'85 seasons. The difference between myself and some fans is that I can put things in perspective. It's entertainment, not a way of life.

"It's entertainment, not a way of life"

Exactly. That's what we are lacking is entertainment. I'm not slicing my wrists, I'm stopping the supporting of a team to send a message to it's management (or lack thereof).

I want to be entertained, not shaking my head at every 3 and out.

I am a football fan first, and a Bills fan second. That's why I'm boycotting the Bills by not buying any merchandise, tix, and I ain't watching anymore. I will watch competitive games and get my entertainment abroad in the NFL landscape.

Tomorrow, while all the "true Bills Fans" are watching a laugher, I will be investing my entertainment time watching KC/Indy, or STL/DET...or even NYG/HOU. Does that make me a bandwagon fan? Because I can't stand watching the Bills ruin 3 hours of my supoosed entertainment time? When the Bills organization starts showing me something that tells me they are providing customer support, then I'll start showing them I'm a fan by watching them again.

Have to keep going back to the Snicker Bar analogy for all you self-proclaimed "real" fans.....

  17. "So, why is it terrific to come to snap judgments during the season after the ship has sailed, but prudent not to make judgments during the off-season, when teams are actually put together?"

Because it doesn't fit into his "argument". Look, you are not going to get thru to these ppl that continue to accept and regurgitate the same excuses the Bills are feeding them.

It's called Kool-Aid, and if someone sips it, they are powerless to any reasoning. They just want more Kool-Aid.

  18. I thought you were done...

Ha ha!!!! You crack me up....I knew this was coming.....

I am done.....i, uh....just came back because I left a pair of shoes in the closet.....i really like that pair.....

Seriously though, I did come back to the forum partly b/c I am addicted to reading the great posts and the posts of those who continue to tell guys like me to relax. Either way, I am not flinching in my decision. I made a statement under my Avatar....i'm posting according to that statement, sort of.....at least some view it that way.....
