Actually he was similar to this (perhaps not quite this far) the first year here. 180 degrees year two. Perhaps friction with FO had bubbled over by then, but we did have a glimpse of this early.

I'm actually wondering why/who leaks this. My theory: Eagles leaked this so McCoy knows they're trying to bring him back and he puts pressure on the Bills to make the deal. For all we know he's already expressed his discontent with the limited usage and McDermott has just downplayed it. I think McCoy likes it here and is working well with Allen, but chance to return home with a playoff run would still win out.
Prediction is Bills make the trade for a 3rd and 6th, bring back Gillislee.

For those against cutting him - if he shows up, is your opinion we just trust he'll be a reliable player for the season? This feels like it's a trickier situation than what we'd like to do. I don't want to pay for a distraction or worse a hamstring injury day 2 of camp. This is somewhat unique in that we're not dealing with someone that might end up worrying about future reputation. As others have noted, this all coming out of 600k is kind of ridiculous for both sides.

Is there anyone here that would argue Tyrod is a franchise QB?
1) He's pretty good, but regularly shows us a ceiling we all wish wasn't there.
2) Not a lot of franchise QBs floating around begging for a look
3) Org sure has given every indication that they're going to try and find another QB
So that being said, Tyrod had the game we needed today and am happy for him. Hope he can do more next week - I don't see how 16 cuts it against the Patriots.

It probably comes down to how much you think culture plays a role. If you don't believe in that kind of thing, I can see the trade being hard to accept.As kirby points out though - is Tanner Vallejo and... Andre Holmes(? Or dimarco? Or groy though a little high on the price comps) better for this team than even mediocre dareus?
Whatd be really Billsy is if we end up signing a mediocre vet DT to replace him and that guy costs us a comp pick one day. Itd be like a TBD perfect storm.
If anybody cares about leadership theory, many books - 21 Irrefutable Rules of Leadership, Decisive, The Effective Executive are a few I can think of - all have a theme about how members of a team know first who isn't a good team member, and the longer you wait to address it the more credibility you lose as a leader. Now this is for the business world, but I think it still applies. People know when someone isn't pulling their weight, and if you're complicit it's noticed.
Some people might think that's crap or not applicable to pro sports. If you believe it though, and given what BB has preached I assume he does, then this is the right move.

It's just shocking to me that Jacksonville took that contract on. The Bills aren't winning the Super Bowl this year, and I sure hope the FO is trying to get there vs a playoff birth. You move on from guys that aren't in your plan and pose a potential long term road block. We don't want to risk him blowing his knee out next week. He's not going suddenly care and have a monster season to raise his trade value in the off-season. It's just not very likely. Nobody is thrilled that our stud player got paid and gave up, but that's where we're at. Dead cap space... honestly it's not that big a deal. Countless teams in far worse scenarios have worked around a short term cap issues. It's massively disappointing, but a 6th was the demand, and I see very low odds the Bills were going to get more in the future.

This is the sunk cost fallacy, and it's part of the reason Whaley ended up getting fired. I respect the view, I am sure the Rams staff still believes in Goff - they pretty much have to. But a truly rational and objective third party would look at Goff's awful play last year and conclude the Rams should start thinking about moving on. They need to think about what happens if Goff blows this year, and what they will need to replace him in 2018. A high 2nd rounder is tremendous lost value for them but I am sure the Rams think they will be good so they don't see it that way. No guarantee Sammy signs long-term which would make this a historically bad trade.
Ha it's sunk cost fallacy to YOU because you've decided Goff won't be the future. For the Rams, they've executing a plan centered on Goff and you can't blame them for believing in that plan and wanting a big play threat to support it.
By the way, who says it's going to be a high 2nd round pick?

If my QB was Jared Goff I would be pissed. Trading a high 2nd round pick in a QB heavy draft, for a receiver in a contract year with an injury history. That's pretty much indefensible if you ask me. It's a Whaley-lite move. Say what you want about the trade from the Bills side, I think it is far worse objectively from the Rams side.
Man I just don't see it that way at all. The Rams spent an insane amount of draft capital for Goff. Two first, two seconds, two thirds. They've got Kupp, Woods, and Austin as the starting 3. Not exactly the strongest trio. You took a big risk bringing in 30 year old HC who is supposed to be some offensive guru. You add the highest ceiling WR this year for a 2nd round pick. I get it. And yes, it is Whaley-light. But WAY light. We did it to find out about EJ, a middle of the first round guy - Rams are doing it for a guy they mortgaged the future on. If I'm the Rams, I'm doing absolutely everything to figure out if Goff is the guy.

I swear fans tell themselves that Sammy was gone after this season so the move doesn't seem as bad. It's what fans do every time a talented player leaves Buffalo. "Well he was gone after the season, so at least they got something for him". The number of times I've heard that from Bills fans is crazy. It was the same thing with Peters.
I agree with you here, but Sammy's comments on he NBA contracts and how his class was going to change that really worried me. I think this is an interesting instance where we'll get to see in a year from now how exactly what type of situation we'd have dealt with - I can't think of many (any?) cases in the NFL where you've got that level of draft pick being traded on an expiring rookie deal.
In any event, for me it's not just about not being capable of keeping him, but whether it's realistic that we'd want to given where the team will be at. Here are the scenarios I see:
A) Tyrod takes a step forward, is good enough that we pick up his contract (basically 2 year commitment). Watkins stays healthy, has strong year for the Rams
B) Tyrod continues to show shortcomings (won't throw over middle, won't anticipate throws, etc) and we decide to move on. Watkins stays healthy, strong year for Rams
C) Tyrod takes step forward, we pick up contract. Watkins continues to battle injuries for Rams
D) Tyrod comes up short, we move on. Watkins continues to battle injuries for Rams
Understanding these are a little simplistic and B,D are impacted by Watkins being gone...only in scenario A would I think the Bills really made a mistake. It feels like the least likely option. In option B, this feels like this would be a hard deal to get done. We'd be looking at a rookie QB and now you've got to sell that to Watkins. Even if you can, we'd have to be what the highest paid player on the team? 2nd? That feels like a rough plan. Option C & D - I will guess even if Watkins battles injuries this year, some team will be willing to gamble and give him a big contract. For me, I'd prefer the Bills not be that team.
I think it's terribly disappointing that Watkins didn't work out. I'm really disappointed EJ didn't work out, because that was the first domino. Not that I'm not rooting for Tyrod, but I'm ready for the Bills to pick a QB at the top of the board next year and trying this process with a blue chip guy.

Would you cut Yates for Kaepernick... and would cutting Yates benefit us regarding a compensatory pick... was he one of the 7 qualifying free agent signings?
Given the desire to remove any aspect of circus from Buffalo, I suspect Pegs would not be interested. That aside, yes, there is no planet on which Yates would give us a better chance to win. I'd take RG3 over him. I'd bring back Thad Lewis over him.

Loved the confidence from Peterman. Had a couple ugly balls, but otherwise nice first look. Yates...I just don't get it. Why are we paying this guy? It's not like an Orton situation where the guy had a few very decent years and we got desperate. Or Cassel. He's got 6TDs and 8INTs in SIX YEARS of being in the league. There is no value here. Move on.

I think the $2m cap hit ultimately could be figured out - it's annoying, it could have been handled better, but it's not the end of the world. I think the bigger question is whether you'd rather have Gillislee or a 5th (and really 6th based on pat's pick) rounder. In my view, the pick is too low to make that deal. The odds of a 6th rounder making the roster...let alone sticking around...is only a little better than a coin flip. Chart below. On the other hand, we already know Gillislee is a solid contributor in this system. Why make another hole to fill in exchange for that much uncertainty?
So I'm wondering - is it possible to simply sign Gillislee and tell the Pats "We're open to trade, we just need a 4th." Then they're either interested and we get better compensation, or they're not and we've got a solid backup as planned and it happens to cost us a few extra dollars. Not that big a deal.

You think Sammy and Dareus wouldn't GREATLY prefer to play for other teams?
Lynch was also unhappy and glad to be traded but he didn't force a trade.
We need Leroi or jw to give us some insight... However my understanding is the Bills wanted Lynch out as much as Lynch wanted out. Maybe more so.

So in the past every Bills game has been on radio regular and preseason with Bills feed however I have a very old radio and tonights game is on channel 145 no internet feed. My radio will not tune that channel since its a 2006 vintage radio. They also have messed uo Christmas music programming a similar way that even people with new cars can NOT tune to these channels since the radios are actually pretty old even though car is new. Only reason I still have them is for NFL team radio broadcast if they screw it up during regular season I will be throwing the radio in the garbage can
Is there any reason you wouldn't want a new radio if offered as an upgrade to what you are using?

This is idiotic. Let's rewrite history. Bills don't move up. I think it's safe to assume Watkins goes in the first 6 picks, and let's say Tampa sticks with Evans @ 7. That leaves:

9. BUF
10. DET
11. TEN
12. NYG
He's ASSUMING this means the Bills get Beckham at 9. However, Giants GM Reese said immediately after the draft that they were in love with Beckham & had him high on their board within the top 10 (as a note he's also been asked if he had him above Watkins and he says no, not that high but we knew he'd be gone). Who's to say they don't trade with CLE and draft him #8? And then Bills get Eric Ebron like a large % of people wanted and we watch Watkins play in [Atlanta?] & ODB in New York. Great.
The Bills needed a #1 WR and now have a #1WR. Was there a cheaper and/or better option? Sure, but you're never going to get everything exactly right. He filled the need of #1 WR and seems to be a special player. He's equating that to EJ? There we needed a #1QB and then....stilled need a #1QB. That one is a problem, yes.
I feel like this only gets brought up because of the extra #1 draft pick. But really, who cares about that. It was a #19 pick. Go look at picks 19-49 and tell me which world beater we missed out on and/or who you'd rather have than Darby.

Exactly. Bills can blame themselves for this loss following a terrible first half. But refs still don't get a pass for failing to perform their job. That was a legit failure by that guy at a critical spot. I'm pretty sure it was the same guy that was calling it a turnover on the 3rd and 1 failed sneak at the end.

Yep. It's still preseason. The game is a lot different in the regular season.
The real star IMO of the preseason has been Greg Roman. The offense is efficient. The line is pass blocking and giving the QBs actual pockets. Guys are running good routes and the ball is getting there. Unbelievably, between the four QBs, there has been one INT in three games which was a Hail Mary by Matt Simms. They are not predictable and they spread the ball around. And they don't even have their stars. It's very encouraging. But it's preseason.
No kidding. As they say, we were getting what we paid for when it comes to OC.
