1. This team is nowhere near "worst ever" in Bills history.  I suggest doing some reading/research on Bills teams from the 60's, 70's & 80's.  There were some truly bad teams during each of those decades, but I guess the Hot Pockets generation doesn't have time for anything that far back.

    DING!

These sorts of responses puzzle me. We take pride in that the Buffalo Bills have had a long tradition of sucking? We shouldn't be angry or upset that the Bills are a mess because it's happened many times before? What?

  2. You gotta love Peyton's quote after the game....

"I'm going to be a good teamate.....we had some protection problems." - Peyton Manning

Way to throw your O-line under the bus Peyton.  I see the years of frustration of never beating Florida or winning in the playoffs has taken its toll.

Maybe he forgot that teams are allowed to blitz when you're not wearing the red practice jersey.

  3. That's because with Peyton you know HE is calling the play based on the D he sees.  Brady is getting the play from the bench (or upstairs) and his COACH is reading the D.  Of course, what he does after that is on him...and he does it quite nicely, i agree.

I might be way off on this, I have no idea, but isn't Tom Brady calling the plays for New England's offense?

It's either him or Belichick, because they have no official offensive coordinator according to the team website: http://www.patriots.com/team/index.cfm?ac=coaches

  4. The Pats have been better...no doubt.  Yoy guys seem to think this is tennis.

It's not like the Colts are untalented. Looking at the two rosters, it's not unreasonable to say that the Colts have a more talented squad than the Patriots. So I don't think that excuse works for Peyton.

  5. That's what all the pundits say, and they're dead wrong. Ben R. makes clutch throws and can put a team on his back ands win. Jut look at the Colts win today; Ben R carried the team, the running game and o-line didn't. Sure, it helps to have a line and a running game; but Ben R is a franchise QB, he's not some caretaker, Trent Dilfer type.

What makes Ben R so great--and other franchise QB's too--is the ability to make big plays in the redzone. Today, if the Bills would have been out there with either JP or KH, it would have been a 6-0 lead. Ben R made laser throws to Randel El and Miller in the endzone for a 14-0 lead. That is talent, smarts, and a knack for big plays under pressure. He's just a great QB. We can only hope that JP develops into something half as good in the next year or so.

This is an excellent and honest post.

  6. Reading defenses, not close by a long shot.  Manning may be the best ever.  He calls the plays at the line, for Christ's sake.  He's always reading the D.

See, I think Peyton gets more credit for reading defenses because of the auidible thing, but from what I've seen Brady can read D's just as well if not better. I'll never claim to be an Xs and Os football scientist, but based on the games I've watched, Brady's been just as adept at finding holes in defenses as Manning is.

  7. Not really.  The Jags if you recall, were a good team from the beginning as well, and sustained it a LOT longer than the Panthers did.  It's the byproduct of getting a veteran's allocation draft, the 1st pick at the beginning AND end of every round, and having a clean salary cap slate.  With Haslett in NO, he was setback by that stupid Ricky Williams trade for years.  They recouped 2-1st rounders ultimately, but bad draft choices and player moves hurt them, not all of which were Haslett's doing.

Haslett had 5 full off-seasons in New Orleans. I think that's plenty of time for a coach to be able to put his own stamp on a team without any baggage or excuses from the previous regime's dealings.

Keep in mind that Haslett only made the playoffs his first year, when the team had already been built by that previous regime.

  8. Everything in your post was fine up until the quote above.

It's stuff like that that provokes the AKCs of the world.  That's just flat-out nonsense, IMO.

    568323

    Why?

I mean, it's all judgement calls, but in my view, I'd compare Brady and Manning as follows:

Arm strength, Manning wins hands down.

    Accuracy, it's a toss-up.

    Clutch/Intangiles, absolutely goes to Brady.

Poise in the Pocket, you have to give this to Brady.

Reading defenses, I would say is even as well.

So I wouldn't say Brady is head-and-shoulders above Manning, but I would prefer to have him over Peyton if I had the luxury of choice.

  9. Try to imagine the New England Patriots as the Buffalo Bills. Everything about them is the same except for where they play and what uniforms they play in.

I think if Brady played in Buffalo, we'd be falling all over ourselves proclaiming him to be the greatest football player of all time.

Forget that he's in our division and forget the ESPN hype. Try to look at Brady as objectively as possible and you'll realize he's the kind of quarterback that we'd like to have on our own team. Smart, poised and calm with accurate throws and knows how to put touch on the ball.

If Brady were on the Bills, I wouldn't be pining for Manning. Manning may have the better arm, but Brady is the better overall package.

  10. No. They win as a team and they lose as a team. The point is, it's increasingly obvious that Ivan Drago is not a machine.

    568030

I don't think anyone who's reasonable ever said Brady is the sole reason for the Patriots success, but I find it silly to deny his importance.

Without Brady, the Patriots wouldn't have won the Super Bowl. But they wouldn't have won it without Bellichick as a coach, either.

  11. Zone Blocking.

    567321

I'm familiar with the first word, "zone." Like, red zone where an offense is supposed to stop and the endzone where an offense daredn't go.

But "blah king"? What is this? I've never heard of this. Why haven't the Bills been doing this "blah king" you talk about?
