I would've been better off reading the bleacher report instead.
Made me laugh a 2nd time..
You are definitely in top form this thread.
-
Only a few that matter and even half of those are RFA
-
Buddy is just trying to provide a little variety. After finding out how much his own teamates don't like him, I'm sure .ark finds it refreshing to hear a little criticism from someone else.
-
What is that, about 6.5 mil a year? Anybody else thinking Stevie might be regretting signing back on?
I dont think hes regretting it too much... but he might be thinking that he couldve given the Bills a little less of a discount.

$5.45 million with $1.25 million guaranteed according to http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4257/scott-chandler

Good moves on their part. They needed to give Freeman a weapon and protection. I wonder how much Nicks got, seeing as how he wanted to be the highest-paid OG in the NFL?
-
Just so we are clear... Who is calling Nix "a great gm" on this thread?
Dick Jauron went after TE Tony Gonzalez and instead Tony chose Atlanta. Does that make Jauron great because he saw a hole and tried to fill it with a proven commodity?
I'm not giving Nix credit for failing.
I can recall this Bills FO stating that they were going to hire a top HC and money was no object after they fired Jauron, they were gonna spend 10 million if that's what it takes. Remember that?
They even flew in Mike Shanahan and Bill Cowher and spoke with both, what happened? You can't make top players / coaches want to come to a loser.
So what exactly are you saying?
-
I've been pretty adamant that the Bills would not sign Mario. That even if they threw the money at him he would not want to sign here. I'm not even sure once you crunch the numbers that he would be worth what they were sacrificing to get him.
But when the time came Nix and co. Stepped up big and did all they could to get this guy. If he goes to Buffalo great. If he doesn't then at least we know for sure that the FO is in it to win it.
The OP has it right, you can't blame Nix if people just don't want to play in Buffalo.
-
Whatever happens.. I'm really impressed with how Nix and the boys are going after these guys. They are doing whatever they can and hopefully they get it done.
Trying to think positive here.. Thinking positive...Thinking positive...

Yes, and the cash to cap number is the one we use!!! This is the number that determines if we can sign free agent X. This is how much we have to spend. And when we determine if can sign free agent X, we consider 100% of all bonuses applied toward this year, NOT amortized bonuses! See?
It's just a simple example to illustrate the point of how bonuses are handled.. If you want a better one, look at Peppers' contract. He got like 1M his first year and 19M in bonuses. That would require 20M in free cash to cap space this year if we offered Mario the same deal.
Whew, discussing the cap is tiring.
Im tired just from reading the discussion

You guys are forgetting that the rookies with the new collective bargaining agreement dont get the big monry anymore and the 6 million is way too high. We also can get rid of Kelsey and edwards for 11.5 million and restructure more deals to get more room we have roughly about 25 million to spend on free agents and that is probably 3-5 players because once the season starts they dont have to be under the cap.
It wont be that much. Closer to $7million.
Last year the Bills draft picks took up just under $10 mil in cap room and about twice that much in actual cash.
-
That cap room figures in all the moves so far, but doesn't take into account the tenders for Urbik and Rinehart (unless a deal or deals can be worked out), which are probably a 2nd round tender for Urbik ($1.927M) and an original (3rd, $1.26M) tender for Rinehart, which is about $3.2M. And the rookie cap will be about $6M. This is assuming non-cash-to-cap accounting.
BTW, the Skins apparently are going all-in on Vincent Jackson, so forget about him. And Williams is probably also a pipe dream given the amount of cap room many teams have. I'm hoping they pursue Kamerion Wimbley, who Oakland will likely move (I'd even favor trading a pick to them to ensure getting him), and a speedy WR.
The 15 million I stated was cash to cap.
-
"The problem, though, is that Buffalo's about to get squeezed by the new CBA rules. In 2013, the spending floor that the union fought to have included in the new bargaining agreement comes into play, which means that the Bills will need to spend 89 percent of the cap in cash on an annual basis. That means a payroll in excess of $100 million, and the Bills only have two ways to get there."
From 2008-2010 the Bills averaged 92% of the cap in cash, well over the required 89%. Last year they spent $130M or 106% of the cap in cash, again, well over the required 89%.
TLDR: The salary floor in 2013 won't faze us, Barnwell didn't do his research.
What else is there to say? This guy needs to get his facts straight.
-
That gets us one Mario or two Vincent Jackson's
I hate to be THAT guy but... That doesn't include the money it will take to sign our draft picks. Your looking at about 15 mil. Or so in actual cash. Also, does that figure include Chandlers signing bonus + salary? (terms haven't been disclosed yet) The Bills (imo) at the very least are still are going to tender Urbik and Rienhart (or at least they should). Plus they are in talks with Scott. Now after all that- the number you have left over is used on free agents.
Buuuuuut, they can still do things such as release players to make more room under the cap and free up some cash. So I do think they can make some moves (fingers crossed).. I just wanted to point out that anyone expecting too much may be disappointed.
Personally I'm hoping for maybe one big signing (ex.jackson?) Or a couple of mid range signings like (ex. Meachum?)
-
Right now I'm leaning towards 7-9 but if we make a couple solid moves in free agency I see no reason why we can't win at least 10 games and be fighting for a playoff spot at the end of the season.
-
So many good points being made on both sides of the arguement. BigBuff423 made an excellent post earlier.
The only point i can add is that, with the ultimate goal obviously being winning a SuperBowl and nothing less- i feel way better about this 6-10 team than i ever did about any 9-7 team in the last decade.
-
I dont know whats going to happen with Bell. But im almost positive that he isnt going to sign any incentive laden contracts unless his agent is incompetent.
-
Andy Levitre - 4yr/$14.25 million (Locked up for the next 4 years.)
Fred Jackson - 3yr/$15.75 mil. ($5.5 million signing bonus)
Jarius Byrd - 5yr/$28 mil.
(id sign Byrd early into next season)
-
Mincey started 16 games had eight sacks last season. Five of those came in the two games he played against the Colts. The year before that he started eight games and tallied five sacks. So there was an improvement there as playing time increased but im wary of guys who play up during their contract year.
What about Jason jones? Just was wondering if either of these guys are viable options to help us
Jason Jones played a lot at defensive end last season and his numbers dropped. He played primarily as a defensive tackle the year before.
-
Every bill's fan can dream though, cant we?
sure can. im one of them.
-
Bills wont do it. Nor should they. Our QB situation isnt perfect but its a far cry from having to use the 10th pick when there are so many other needs.
-
The most important position to fill is at defensive end and there is no great way to fill it other than signing Mario Williams which isnt going to happen.
Screw the Toronto series revisiied
