    Initial view of the Data

A quick look at what happens to picks who receive second contracts show an interesting story in the graph below:

The three largest groups that share the greatest proportion of the same result lie in the picks from round one to round three whose second contracts come with different teams. This is 50% of round one picks, 43% of round two picks, and 32% of round three picks

The 4th greatest proportion (31%) is those round one picks whose second contract came from the same team

The order of these proportions speaks to teams’ willingness to take a chance on draft pedigree even for the second contract. Round one through round three picks will often get a second chance in the league somewhere else. Based on the 2010-2017 data, the most likely outcome for a player drafted in rounds one and two is a second contract with a different team. For round three, the most likely outcome is no second contract (51%), but a second contract is almost a coin toss at this point.

So if I am reading this correctly Rd 1 signinging different team is 50% and Rd 1 signing with same team is 30%  That means 20% don't get a second contract and are out of the league.   That is pretty amazing.    Awesome thed guys probably the best info on here I have ever seen draft related!

That's giving Whaley an awful lot of credit...I think he made the trade because he thought he had to, in order to get his young QB a WR.

No way do I think he knew enough about the 2015 draft class to make that kind of decision.

I think Whaley gets a bad rap.   He did what he could with each Coaching staff and tried to get them what the coach wanted.  I agree that when the trade went  down it should have been Mack to trade up by giving up a 1 to get a receiver in a receiver heavy draft was foolish.   In the draft simulators that year I traded back and would have drafted Martin, Evens and Bryant with the first 3 picks.

  3. Is it just me or did it seem that our defense played very vanilla.  We didn't seem to create pressures like the last few games and stayed with 4 man rushes.  I wonder if we did not extend our game plan in preparation for the playoffs and not show too much seeing that even with a win we would more than likely be a 5th seed.

There it is.  The race card.    SMH.  Being a media darling has nothing to do with skin color.

FWIW I'd take Deshaun Watson, Russel Wilson, Pat Mahomes easily before I'd think of Lamar.

All of them were media darlings and 2 of them have a multiple seasons to back them up.

Faker Mayfield was a media darling.

Sam Darnold was a Media darling.

All shiny new toys to gush over and then forgotten

I thought Lamar was better in College than Deshaun, I think Lamar will be the better QB than Deshaun in the pros as well.   If the draft I would have been content to stay where we were and draft Lamar.  Thought the pick at 7 was to take our LB Tremaine Edmunds.  All is good please with Josh but wonder what our other picks could have been .  I am not a fan of the trade up for picks as it still is all a crap shoot.

OR....as someone else pointed out he may be so far behind in his picks that he needs some serious underdogs to catch up to the more capable pickers. They have a word for that.........”desperation”. Or, possibly “tequila”, but probably one or the other.

    No jinx disclaimer here*

Actually he is leading the other people picking  but took denver and dolphins and cincinnati    think he made 3 mistakes there.

My moment like that, or should I say moments were when we picked 'lil Donte Whitner at 8, but my biggest throat punch from this franchise came when they announced EJ Manuel.  I think I just about quit on this team that year. The Aaron Maybin pick was another one of those head scratchers, but the EJ pick nearly broke me.

The EJ Manual year who were you going to take?   I personally would have traded back again and then take Manual who was the best Quarterback in that draft.  Not that it says much.

Picks I hated most were Spiller when we had good backs   and  the trade up for a WR in a Strong WR draft for Watkins.    In my Mocks that year I had us trading back and getting Martin G, Benjamin WR and Martavius Bryant

  8. It will be interesting to visit this after free agency.   We all hope they will make good moves and we figure the reason they have not done well on Offense with Free agents is due to money.   Money is not the issue so its time to put up.   Lets hope we can get a good line through FA so we can draft skill positions and be able to manage the cap well!  Go Bills!!!

We were able to do it last year.  Bucs, Raiders, last fish game, and others.  What happened?  Now we're back to finding new ways to lose.  I thought Coach McDermott got us past that which is why we made the playoffs last year.

I also think it's because they (McDermott and Beane) are not really trying to win this year.

Incognito and Wood  that's what happened and no money to get replacements
