If the Patriots success shows anything, its that football IQ is meaningful. Prime example - Robert Royal. Talented tight end, no doubt, but a complete moron. Opening day loss to Pats centers around a dumb block in the back penalty on Royal. Today, again incredibly, he gets another block in the back penalty in the red zone; then on the VERY NEXT play cant keep his feet in bounds in the end zone, a play that any high school player makes routinely. Love DJ and his staff, but his game clock management is a disaster. Why is this so hard to understand for a Bills coach? More than a one minute in the first half, willis runs the ball on second down and boom- time out by Bills; preserving just enough time for Titans to come back and score a TD. Why would you ever have called a timeout in that situation, unless you just dont get it in terms of clock management? And we have had several games recently where he has chosen not to challege very close, critical plays in the FIRST half, only to go into halftime with all of his time outs left anyway. When your defense is shredded in a home game by the opponents running game, you need every thing to go right to win; including good game/clock management by your head coach. We did not get this today.

Pathetic game for willis; who is dancing instead of running - A train please.
-
The game is a sell out; or will be by Sunday; it makes no difference in evaluating Buffalo as a small market team whether the game sells out on Thursday or Sunday - a sellout is a sell out. All the whiners crying about the black out can get their alchoholic asses out of the house and buy a ticket and go to the game for a change - as a bonus, the weather will be great

As the late (not so) great Jim Jones once said, DRINK UP!!
-
Drink deeply and don't ask questions; Bills at 4 - 6, have 3 relatively easy home games (they will be favored in all three), Jets on the road is winnable, as is Baltimore last game of season ( if the Ravens have their playoff spot clinched by then) Bills also have a legitimate shot at knocking off Chargers at home ( who knows what the weather will be like). You get where I am going - this Bills team is playoff bound!! Drink up Of course, they must play better D than yesterdays effort, and they will

Tom D's choices in 2005 draft 2nd round -Parrish, 3rd round - Everett. Might have given some thought to actually drafting some O lineman in those spots, especially when, at that time, are O line was in such horrible shape that he had to sign a guard, cut by the Bears, (gandy) to be our LEFT TACKLE. I don't care if Parrish runs a 4.0 forty, if the QB doesnt have time to throw, whats the difference. And Everett has done nothing. 5 years of drafts and TD leaves us with a O line much worse than the one we had when he got here. Nice job.

Nobody is comparing Brady to JP. If every QB brought in here is judged by the standards JP is being judged by they are doomed to failure. Any young QB is going to struggle, especially with an awful O line. The Mannig brothers both struggled big time, and Eli still does, even with a great O line. Typically the nitwit fans were whining about not drafting Lienart after his one good performance v Bears. Don't hear that this week after he was terrible v Raiders. So draft Brady Quinn and call for his benching when he is not an all pro by his second year
-
Although the jury is still out on JP, it is nonsesnse to give up on him now. This is only in effect his second year, and has a brand new offensive scheme this year, but still has a respectable QB rating half way into the season. This behind an O line so bad it has to be completely re shuffled in mid seaon. This is almost never done, and shows just how pathetic the line is. Nobody succeeds behind line play like that. In two games against the Pats this year JP had two fumbles and one interception. In those same two games, Tom Brady had two fumbles and one interception. Watch the Jets v Lions game, compare how much time Pennington had to throw compared to how much time JP had v Lions

You have to compete better than that on your home field, regardless of who the opponent is. It's disturbing how badly our staff was out coached today. Adjustments are a huge factor in the NFL. In the first half we were getting very nice pressure on Brady, and Willis was getting some nice holes. After half time, Brady has all day, and Willis averages a yard a carry. THE PATS ADJUSTED. We did not. Progress - first time we played the Pats we gave the game away on a series of stupid penalties. The amount and stupidity of the penalties today were way beyond opening day. Is that progress? I know DJ is a players coach but wow, some of these guys need a Parcells type fire lit under them.

Three starters out on the O line for Lions and they manage to protect their QB, while Gandy, this gutless girl posing as an NFL left tackle, gives up 3+ sacks and just about gets his QB killed. He even gave up a sack when Willis helped with a chip block. Send a message and cut this spineless faggot today.

HEY IDIOT: DID YOU WATCH THE GAME? IT WAS A FIRST AND GOAL - AND THE TIGHT END CAUGHT IT IN THE CORNER OF THE END ZONE. I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE COVER TWO DEFENSE AND ITS VULNERABILITY TO PASSES IN THE MIDDLE - NOT ON GOAL LINE STANDS, NITWIT
-
The NFL is all about adjustments. The head coach of the Patriots, a guy who knows a little about defense, has a simple philosiphy, take away the other teams #1 weapon. So Lee Evans gets zip against the Pats opening day. Lions #1 and only weapon , Roy Williams, gets one on one coverage the entire 1st half and goes crazy. So 2nd half begins, Lions third and long deep in their own end, boom, Williams with a 15 yard reception facing one on one coverage once again. NICE HALF TIME ADJUSTMENT. You don't have to coach in the NFL for 20 years to see that the gutless freak posing as an NFL left tackle, ( Gandy) was totally incapable of blocking his guy today, a guy who personally won the game for the Lions by blowing up every Bills drive with a sack. Might want to make an ADJUSTMENT there, and give the guy some help, before your QB gets killed. No adjustment made. Lions play a cover two, which leaves some openings in the middle for tight end. NOT ONE PASS thrown to a tight end in the middle of the field. Not one - all day. Does Larry Triplett still play for the Bills??

Lets slow down here; JP did not have a good game - big deal, that happens to every QB, every weekend in the NFL. Check out the performances of Bledsoe Ben R and Chad pennington yesterday. Of course read the News this morning and see the reporters blame JP for the second interception because he "missed a wide open Parrish" Wrong again morons. JP threw the ball to spot where Parrish was supposed to be, via a sight adjustment on a blitz. Parrish, for all his great athletic ability, continues to be held back by his inability to grasp the offense. His quickness and athleticism also come with a wonderlick score of 9. Lets not annoint the Bears Superbowl champs just yet, yesterday was a classic example of getting on a roll, with a few breaks and the ensuing snowball effect. Coaching staff did a fine job but there are a few red flags out there. After 15 penalties against the Vikes last week, the amount and type of penalties yesterday was unacceptable. Shelton has a simple job; know the snap count and hit the first guy he sees. He now has three false start penalties this year, two in consecutive games. Thats a complete joke, and the coaches should deal with that severely. As far as game management, Jauron has to stay on top of the situation, and see the big picture, so it is just flat out dumb to continue to have one of your STARTING cornerbacks risk injury by continuing to return kick offs in a game thats a complete blowout.

Even the dopes that announced the game talked about the mis management of the game. Taking a timeout (first time in NFL history) @ 2:02 on the game clock. The failure to ask for a review on Losman's first fumble; apparently to save a time out in the first half that the Bills never used anyway. Having an Offensive coordinator calling the plays, a defensibve coordinator calling the defenses; and sittting there like a dunce on the sideline never challenging a call. What exactling are the F you doing. Horrible mis management of a game by a guy who should know better
-
Willis is interested only in his carries and playing out his contract so he can get out of Buffalo. His blocking is a disgrace, and is going to get JP killled before this seaon ends. Willis has his eyes set on playing for a Florida team; the hell with pass blocking.
-
The idiots on this board are dumber than the head coach, obviously. In addition to not challenging ANY call, defend please, the time out at 2:02. " I like the hand off with 8 seconds in the half and 80 yards to go because willis might take it to the house" Thats the top candidate for stupidest post of the year.
-
Absolutely have to challenge on Losman's fumble - fails to do so, or even think to do so. Why not challenge the call - it only costs you one time out in the first half. And as first half ends, Buffalo still has two timeouts it never used. Idiot. And at the end of half, with 8 seconds left, take a knee for chrisakes. Why hand off and risk a fumble? Just does not get it.
-
Love what DJ has brought this team in terms of coaching leadership philosiphy etc. But he also came with a reputation as a great game day manager. Given that, I was surprised to see how the Bills handled their last possesion of the first half and especially end of game. In both situations Miami did not have enough time outs to keep the clock from running out. Bills had zero interest in picking up a first down. So why risk a hand off to a running back and/or the rb fumbling after a hit. Why not just take a knee three times? You see this often in the NFL, and it is really a completely unneccesary risk.
-
There were three blocking in the back penalties in the space of 8 plays. This was the unique way the Bills found to give the game away today. But losers always find a way to lose, no matter how unique. Not rookies of course, but 5 year veterans like Clements and Royal, who despite playing football their entire lives, just decide to push players in the back, RIGHT IN FRONT of a referee, to give the game to the Pats. But there were a lot of encouraging signs today. Note to coaching staff; JP can run, is much faster than Brady, and for him to not have one QB run today was just stupid, especially on the safety play where a roll out was the absolute safe play. Tom Brady- slow as molasses, JP one of fastest QBs in the NFL - Brady has more runs than JP.
-
My thoughts to; just an example of a truly mediocre coaching staff, including Wyche, who was a good qb coach 20+ years ago, an eternity in terms of the NFL. When it comes to coaching in the NFL, you get what you pay for, and for the longest time this organization was unwilling tp pay for a top flight coaching staff.

I think my point actually was that two many people ASSUME that Spikes will return at 100% - and their assumptions are based strictly on wishful thinking. Spikes may well return at 100%, but many players with the same type of injury have not. So its not a given, like many people believe, especially when they base their belief on the 12+ plays he had in preseason.
-
Sam Cowart was cut by Texans today - a strong reminder of how devestating an achilles injury is. Before he hurt his achilles, he was an awesome (underrated) talent. After the injury he was never close to being the same. A sobering thought for those who think Spikes will rejuvenate this defense. Hope for the best for Spikes, but a comeback to what he was was would be the exception to the rule when it comes to that type of injury. Cowart could have been a hall of famer, he had that kind of ability..

Plenty of teams, including the Patriots, have started rookies on the O line. So the fact that the Duke could not beat out Bennie A last year does say a lot about his ability.
-
I bet big Mike just loves being on the IR; getting paid not to play!! Just like in Buffalo
-
Under the old regime, Gibson would have been starting, since they never met an overweight, unathletic O linemen they didn't love. In fact, he did start last year, except he was calling himself Bennie Anderson ( or mike williams). You need athletic guys up there to engage the quicker defenders; size is way overrated. speaking of overrated, is it possible to be overrated when you are not even a starter. I refer to yet another article about the "great" Duke Preston. Let me interpet; he is taking a lot of snaps at center now because it is apparent to everybody that is not ever going to be a quality starter. Some versatility may help him make the team; but given the oppurtunity he never seriously challenged cast off Tuten Reyes. Not to mention he could not beat out good old Bennie Anderson last year. I don't have a problem with him as a career back up, but whats with all the publicity and gushing over the guy??
