  1. With a new owner, the NFL demanding a new stadium, and the reality of lake effect snow squalls, does the team and politicians expedite construction of a covered stadium (e.g domed or retractable roof)? It will be expensive but it looks like there may be no other choice. Further, with all the press about Buffalo's snow, can you imagine how hard it will be to sign FA's without one?

  2. Look, I was more then willing to give up on JP Losman, flew off the Trent Edwards Bandwagon pretty quick. I could easily see the flaws in Ryan Fitzpatrick's game but I am not giving up on Kyle Orton......Other then a mobility problem,no worse then Peyton Manning's mobility , I have seen him make every throw. Certainly Defenses have figured him out but I bet you he will adjust well and perhaps some roll outs are needed. Without any Real Running attack its pretty obvious Buffalo will throw the ball. Fix the running game and Orton will be fine...It wasn't a surprise that Ortons game went south without Spiller and Jackson. Fred Jackson is one of the best blocking running backs in the league. Spiller was at least a player that needed to be well covered well as a WR.

I am the first to admit Kyle Orton needs to play better but I never expected perfection when Kyle Orton missed preseason. We need to stop flushing quarterbacks without giving them do time to be comfortable in Buffalo's Offense. I remember when people said the Tarvaris Jackson would need an entire season just to learn the play playbook.

I am reasonably happy with Kyle Ortons game but nowhere near ready to Flush this guy..........Bring on the Jets !!!

    Agree.

  3. Whaley is the best shot the Bills have had in 15 years to make the playoffs. It's too bad Marrone is stuck on having Hacket as his OC, that may be what kills Whaley in the end. He'll end up somewhere like Oakland and turn them around in 2 years. He's made some great personel decisions it's too bad Marrone sucks at his job.

Marrone is Whaleys worst decision to date.

Marrone wasn't Whaley's decision. It was Russ Brandon's and Buddy Nix's.

  4. There's been much discussion whether a move should be made back to EJ? There's also the larger question of the Bills' future at the QB position.

The great NFL QB's (e.g Manning, Brady) have the courage to stay in the pocket, go through their progressions, and take a hit. In the case of the smaller stars (e.g Russell Wilson, Drew Brees), they have great athleticism, awareness, and a fast release.

Most agree K.O may not be the Bills long term answer but seems to have toughness. Assuming 'you can't teach guts', does EJ have the right stuff?

  5. You do realize the Sabres are purposely tanking, They have the number 1 talent pool and have a pretty good chance of getting the #1 pick. Which means Connor McDavid. This has been planned.

I can't believe there are people that don't know this.

"Purposely tanking" night after night... on whose authority? Having said that, later in the season with the #1 pick in sight maybe I could see some 'experimentation' ;-)

  6. NO!

if the kid's got even the slightest chance of turning his game around, Yogi and Boo-Boo will give him little to work with.

in the last two games Orton has been playing as EJ did before being benched, and i don't think it's a coincidence.

let Kyle finish the year, and he and Manuel can return next season with an new coaching staff

    +1

  7. That veteran-presence bit would make more sense if Orton hadn't played terribly the last two weeks. Watkins is the only rookie among the skill guys, and the line has played just as badly in front of Orton as it did with E.J.

As for the 'painfully obvious' part, Manuel had two terrible games and two OK ones this season. Orton has had two terrible games, one more bad than good (New England), two that would be remembered as OK at best except for one late drive in each (Detroit and Minnesota), and a walkover against the Jets. The Bills are .500 under each quarterback.

No doubt, Orton was better in his first four starts than Manuel in his. But he needed to be a lot better for longer to justify permanently scrapping a first-round pick.

The comment below is basically what I'm saying.

No one's saying 'permanently' scrap a first round pick. The question is: should you play a first round pick (who's demonstrated he's nowhere near ready) just because he was a #1? Remember Marv Levy and Bill Polian's philosophy during the Bills glory days? 1st year players (2nd in EJ's case given injuries) were 'groomed'. They weren't thrown into the fire until they could be successful.

Embracing a journeyman like Orton makes as much sense as passing on Wilson, Kaepernick, Foles, etc because we were "satisfied" with Ryan Fitzpatrick, and felt he was the answer at the QB position. That set this franchise back. Why not give the young guy a shot- he's started but 14 games in his brief career. Orton is what he is- mediocre. So many here are convinced Manuel is a bust...the only surety at this point is that Kyle Orton is a journeyman- and NOT the future of this franchise.

Great, let's sit Orton for EJ and watch the Bills give the Browns a 'high' #1 draft pick. Why not risk that experiment if and when Orton's injured? Or better still, in an open competition with others next pre-season.

  8. I'm with Marangi on this. The team needs to know whether EJ can play or not, and has a chance to find out. Keeping Orton in makes no sense; the Bills are just as likely (that is, not likely) to run the table with EJ as with KO.

As has been posted repeatedly, it was painfully obvious EJ was no where ready for prime time. A veteran presence (Orton) leading a rookie-filled line-up, in the near term, makes sense. My concerns about EJ are three-fold: 1) his ability to process the game quickly 2) his accuracy as a passer 3) his courage (or lack thereof) in the pocket.

  9. Never seen such blind devotion in my life to a mediocre journeyman qb who won 3 games by the skin of his teeth as bills fans to King Orton. I hope you are all FINALLY ready to admit that he was put in by a coaching staff desperate to save their own jobs at the expense of the future growth of this franchise.

Yes, he was put in because it was painfully obvious he was the best option available. EJ will have his chance but clearly wasn't ready.

  10. 4th and 4 and you throw deep? Run it to your left...you had open field. God help the Bills fans. This team went into the Bye week looking good and now they are playing horrible football. This offense is WORSE now than when EJ was under center. I am done.

You have a selective memory. EJ was horrible. And he had 2 starting RB's to bail him out. You'd be singing a different tune if Freddy were playing now and the Bills hadn't given the KC game away.

That's enough of Orton for me, time to put EJ back in for rest of season

    Nooooooooooooo!

    Orton looks petrified

The man is courageous (and probably really sore). He has been hit on every other play the last 4 games.

  11. The D is solid, the O is questionable. Marrone might survive if he cuts Hackett loose.....the number? Well, not sure its totally the number. If they are decent , say 8-8, and playing well and hard and competitive.....I guess they might get another shot. If they go 9-7 and look like garbage....I think a change could be in order.

Pegula is in the entertainment business.....and that factor needs to be considered by all the die hard football folks on this board. Other intangibles might also be considerations....are Marrone/Hackett respected in the locker room? I don't know....I suspect Whaley has his sources to assess that, we certainly don't here on this site. OK, I am saying this is complex calculus, and will not easily be characterized by a win number. Sorry for the run on answer.

Maybe a 'run on' answer but a smart one.

  12. Deion said on post-game NFL Network show that Orton (with one exception of a missed long ball) did "all he could" due to abysmal 'play calling'. All correspondents agreed no time to bench Orton as he's got poor RB's and that EJ struggled earlier with a full backfield. Most agreed EJ will eventually be good but it would send the wrong message to the players to now put EJ back on the field.

  13. Personally, I like seeing him pissed. He knows he made a mistake that hurt us and he wants get out there and redeem himself. You could even see this on the very next punt return.

I wonder if the Patriots organization would tolerate players who show tendencies to do dumb things (i.e Brown and McKelvin)? In the off season, I'd consider packaging them for a starting OL or high draft pick.

  14. Orton starts, EJ remains on the bench the rest of the season, regardless. Next year's starter will be determined at OTAs, training camp, and preseason next year.

    GO BILLS!!!

    This.

orton finishes the season. I see no reason to start EJ again this year outside of injury

Orton is not our problem, in fact he is a big reason why we have a winning record right now behind our defense

True. Without Brown and Leodis fumbles, Bills would be 6-3 and Orton would be mayor of Buffalo.

  15. I think Terry may be more interested in hockey. He just bought the Bills as a good thing for the city and will let Kim take care of them as long as she stays away from the hockey team.

Speculation as to who does what, or is their a link? As a Bills fan, hope they separate the football operations and entrust it to a solid football GM and department. Keep Brandon in marketing and away from football!

  16. Who cares, Orton is still the best option right now. This offense is moving better with Orton and you don't see the frustration in the receivers like you did when EJ was in.

    Orton has 8 years experience

    EJ 14 games

same for EJ. You've got to give the guy some time to develop.

Like now with the next 7 soft opponents

The future is now and this is no time to develop a QB (EJ) who was clearly suffering learning pains or worse, simply didn't have 'it'. With a mid to high #1 draft pick to Cleveland we need to win as many games as possible, NOW.
