  1. Nope, in the US at-will employment means your employer can fire you for any reason at anytime as long as it isn't a violation of the law. Firing someone based on allegations of a crime is permissable if they can prove it violated conditions in a contract, made you unfit for the position, or impacted the business.
  2. You act like the Buffalo Bills require the same burden of proof as the courts. Just like many jobs, the NFL is at will employment. If any of us were accused of such a heinous crime, you better believe our companies would let us go due, in large part, to optics. At some point he lied to the Bills staff and to the NFL. Based on the constant preaching of culture by Bills staff that should alone be enough to cut Araiza. The only place he is innocent until proven guilty is the court of law. No one else owes him that.
  3. Exactly why there is usually a civil suit. A way to hold their attacker accountable when the justice system fails to do so.
  4. What would she stand to benefit? She went to police the next day. Had a rape kit done. That is a lot of trauma to undergo for the sake of extorting a college punter. Comments like yours is a reason a lot of victims do not come forward.
  5. It really isn't hard to not put yourself in a situation where accusations could be made. For an organization that preaches culture and has passed on talent for character issues in the past, it is really dissapointing.
  6. Man, some the responses on this board are abhorrent to say the least. Some of you say he is innocent until proven guilty then proceed to drag the accuser through the mud using some very sexist, misogynistic, and down right terrible comments possible. I am dissapointed. And I am dissapointed with the Bills organization.
  7. Why the hell would she put herself through all of trauma? To extort a college punter? The victim shaming has to stop.
  8. When the legal system fails a victim the only recourse is civil. It fails them way too often.
  9. So because she said she was 18 she deserved it? That is what you are implying here. Jesus that is toxic.
  10. She was intoxicated. Right there she is incapable of providing consent.
  11. Plus if she was intoxicated then she is incapable of giving consent.
  12. I would. For an organization who preaches culture and has shied away from drafting and signing players with character issues or previous legal trouble I would expect them to practice what they preach.
  13. She was also underage. I believe she has since made a public statement after she turned 18.
  14. You have issues with court of public opinion when it comes to the accused, but have no problem when it comes to victims. "Maybe he isn't as guilty" as if any of it is ok.
  15. Its amazing the amount of victim shaming in this forum. And you wonder why women don't come forward. I am truly dissapointed.
  16. You could read any of the articles on the accusations.
  17. But for a team and a front office that likes to preach culture, that they would draft someone with this type of accusation floating with an ongoing criminal investigation is dissapointing to say the least.
  18. She reported the rape immediately after it happened and underwent a medical exam. She sure went through a lot of trauma to shake down a then college punter. Makes total sense. But let's continue to victim blame.
  19. The Buffalo Bills do not have the same resources as a police department. I would like to know how thorough of an investigation they conducted and what their threshold was for keeping him on the roster.
  20. With a case involving this many people and an underage girl, I have to imagine they wanted to be as thorough as possible. There was also some talk of San Diego State trying to keep the allegations hush due to the success of the football team.
  21. 1.The criminal investigation has just now concluded according to the LA Times article. 2. What is his lawyer supposed to say? 3. I would be really disappointed if they knew the extent of the accusations and still drafted him since they preach culture.
