This does nothing for the future of the Bills. Romo is past his prime and will end up injured anyway. Then we can trade for Brees or Brady or some other QB well past their prime. I still remember the Bledsoe years all too well.

This. The stench of the Rex Ryan character assassination was stuck to Lynn and Thurman. Lynn did a good job with the OC position so he made it out to LA as the HC. Any news on Thurman?
Not only by Bills fans but by at least some of the players. I also think he would have had that as added pressure to succeed. If the results were not there the perception would have been that he was one of Rex's guys. This way he starts fresh with a new team. No Rex baggage went with him to Los Angeles.

I think it six of one, half dozen of the other for that list. Each one of those teams has huge challenges. I think getting the 49ers or Rams to become winners will be harder than the Bills. Denver will be easier than the rest. San Diego has their franchise QB. Who knows about Jacksonville. I think the biggest thing holding the Bills back is Whaley.

I worked for FedEx in San Diego at the time. I am from Rochester so I had roots in the area. The way we communicated between locations was using a Teletype machine. You typed your message on a tape and then fed it through the machine where it sent the message to another location. We had just launched our aircraft when we got the message from the Buffalo station saying the employees were stranded and could not leave because of the blizzard. FedEx was a small company of a few hundred employees at the time and my heart went out to them. I couldn't imagine what they were dealing with.

1960 #LAChargers game action. Note the empty stands. Will it be different this time? @SDUTKrasovic @sdutCanepa @clarkjudgeTOF #chargers
I miss the ref's not wearing the short knickers. Those were the good old days when you could watch the Chargers play in Balboa Stadium for $1 with a Huddle Club card. Oh well.

Dude we will be lucky to win 3-4 games next year. Oh well saves me $ on NFL ticket
Thats my plan, no more NFL Prime Ticket. I'll just watch the games on network TV. Too bad I live in Southern California where it will mostly be those powerhouses LA Rams and soon to be LA Chargers. See Buffalo it could be worse!!

Wrap this around your brain: my criticism of the media's amateur hour at his presser is not the same as an endorsement of Whaley's abilities as a GM which are, in my opinion, a mixed bag at best.
Now go find someone else to engage in your particular brand of intellectual dishonesty.
The press is just doing their jobs. Its no different in other cities. There was one difference in San Francisco though in that Jed York the owner took the heat for the 49ers collapse. He was asked why he didn't fire himself. http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/01/02/49ers-jed-york-talks-of-latest-firings/

This thread made me laugh. Now that I know the search for a new head coach is going to include Bill Cowher I can be a fan of every team that plays the Patriots in the playoffs.

OBD brings it on themselves. Look at the disaster this team has been for most of its existence. The last 17 years is just a continuance of the ineptitude. Some of the names have changed but the futility marches on.

Oh come on! Rex needed to go a week before the season finale because he would have started Taylor. And the notion that Lynn was being auditioned is the ultimate in insanity. As for Taylor, there was nothing to be gained playing a meaningless game injured.
Sorry if I'm spoiling the torch & pitchfork party you were going to throw, but someone has to talk people off the ledge.
All good points. Here is the problem though. What we saw on the field against the Jets is what we may see next season every game. This Bills team is weak.

I feel that's due to the fact that so much of the organization from Wilson's ownership is still here, including Brandon, Littman, Overdorf, Berchtold, and trainer Bud Carpenter, plus a host of guys reporting to them.
Under Wilson, we wouldn't pay top $ for coaches and he had little trust in GMs. The Bills had to back Nix into the role, bringing him back as national scout for 11 months before naming him GM. Likewise, Doug Whaley had to be eased cautiously through the door as director of pro personnel. Overdorf, to this day, oversees all player contracts which are approved by Littman and Brandon.
To be honest, I wish we would do what the Jets did 2 years ago and what the 49ers might be about to do - clear everyone out, hold a careful search for a GM, let that GM hire his people including those who negotiate contracts, let the GM hire the coach.
I don't see that happening.
I wish it would happen. How can you have a sub-standard NFL team year in and year out and keep the same cast of characters in their jobs! I include Whaley in this group as well.

Glad to see the Bills came to play today. How embarrassing is that!
-
I am surprised how bad the Bills offense looks. I guess TT really is an upgrade at QB.
-
I agree, put in Cardale. Why not?
-
Watching EJ play just confirms he was a waste of a 1st round pick.
-
This game should be treated like a pre-season game. Play all the backups and see what they can do. If they win then fine. if they lose, thats OK as well. I would prefer they lost because they end up with a better draft slot in each round,
-
Dareus should just stop talking. He is a big part of the reason the defense failed this season. Maybe he should become the leader the defense needs instead of lighting up and drag racing. The defense was the reason the Bills failed this season. The Bills sound like a bunch of whiners.

My #Bills Wake-Up Call: Don't expect a thorough 'search' for new HC. NEW at [bN] Blitz: https://t.co/8FEAhEu2mK
The Bills will leave "no stone un-turned", the problem is they will only be digging in their own yard. This is classic Bills.
-
gut feeling is they will do it tomorrow so they can get a week of A Lynn as interim and see how he does. I don't think they prefer to fire coaches during the season but they did to Roman. And the Bills season is essentially over.
More gut feeling - Coughlin to "football czar" role ( hate that term though) and will partner with Whaley to identify next HC and coordinators. Pegulas have final say but let Coughlin and Whaley build the slate and recommend. Coughlin stays on as advisor to Pegulas and Whaley. Jmo.
I would be good with Coughlin being a "football czar". I don't think it does much to fire Rex ff they are not going to give Whaley the boot as well. If they give both Rex and Whaley the axe then its back to Russ Brandon making hiring decisions and we know how that has worked out.

Any team that takes a chance on him will be heavily criticized if he gets in trouble. I don't know what led up to this but it really shows a lack of character on his part.
-
Why?
What in your mind makes him a good coach, other than because he found a way to use McCoy, unlike his predecessor?
We're dead last in the league in passing. Dead last. That's not all Taylor.
He comes up with some good run games but I've seen very few complete game plans out of him other than Seattle, which we lost.
I agree. It makes me wonder if Lynn isn't part of the reason Tyrod has regressed this season.

I'm guessing you're the guy who replies all in company wide emails. You're the guy who doesn't know how to mute his phone on a conference call. You're the guy filling everyone's inbox with chain letters and "viral" jokes from 1998 as if its new material.
How long have you been holding on to that one? I guess since 1998.

I was at the game and the Bills looked they were shuffling around afraid they were going slip on the snow. We looked like a Florida team playing in snow for the first time.
D looked like it was playing 1/2 speed. I hate to complain when D gets 3 turnovers, but I will anyway. Gutless pig performance.
I watched the game until it put me to sleep. The Steelers had few problems with the weather conditions. This showed how unprepared the Bills were for a big game. Or maybe that was last week against Oakland where they were unprepared for a big game. Of maybe so many other games this season where they were unprepared. It begins and ends with the head coach. Its time to move on again.
-
Beforehand, did I think they would do it? Probably not, given the circumstances.
A few minutes in the 2nd half, you're damn right I did. The collapse is the thing that's bugging me, not the defeat itself.
For the first half and five minutes into the third quarter they were the better team. Other than giving the Raiders 3 easy points at the end of the first half. How the Raiders dominated the last 25 minutes of the game shows how far from a playoff team the Bills are.
Perils of Vanity - When Coaches Refuse to Run out the Clock

Maybe arrogance or vanity is what causes head coaches and offensive coordinators to become mentally crippled when they play New England in the super bowl. Two years ago Pete Carroll had a brain cramp when he chose to pass at the 1 yard line instead of pound it in with Marshawn. The Patriots have an air about them that causes opponents to make stupid decisions.
