1. 1) they got the playoffs (and won in the playoffs) last year without TO........no reason to think they can't do it again.....

    2) he would not make his NORMAL PAY if he came back to get his year of service........he would be fined heavily and lose 10 game checks of his 16.....if he wants to sit, fine, but it's going to cost him.......

    388097

The Eagles have got to the NFC final the last 4 years without TO.

The NFC still stinks- so they will probably be there again- with or without TO.

  2. What time is the Crosby lottery?  I thought I heard it was today.

Post your prediction for the winning team here.

    My prediction: Habs

    387881

The NHL will take a page out of the NBA playbook when they manipulated the draft order to put Patrick Ewing into the big market NY Knicks.

Look for Crosby to go to Chicago, Boston or NYC.

    Detroit would be overkill.

  3. Damn TO for wanting to get paid.... DAMN HIM.... We all know NFL Teams always honor the contracts they sign players too.... TO should just be proud to wear the unifrom....... :P

Owens is going about this the wrong way, and not saying the brightest things, but the bottom line is.  He doesn't have to honor the contract, and should be paid accordingly to his talent, which would be the HIGHEST PAID WR IN THE NFL.....

    387791

As with many posters on this board, TO conveniently forgets about the huge signing bonus portion of his compensation when he whines about his low 2005 salary.

If TO felt he deserved to be the highest paid WR, then he should have negotiated such a deal when he became a free agent last year.

Oh wait- he twisted the rules last year and forced a trade to Baltimore that he ultimately didn't like and voluntaruly agreed to sign with Philly and played in the SuperBowl.

TO and Rosenhaus have picked the absolute worst team in the league to pull this nonsense on - because it has been their long standing philosophy to not re-do contracts and overpay aging players who may soon hit the wall.

People forget that TO was injured last year and the Eagles still made it to the SuperBowl without him.

TO and Javon Walker can have a nice time holding out together.

  4. jsut because he started, doesnt mean hes above average. from what i hear he is average. he would be a very good backup.

and i think for 1 season, i would rather have a 4 year vet, over a 3rd round rookie draft pick. teh vet can come in and add to the team right off the bat. while a rookie has to adapt to the NFL. and it usually takes a year or 2.

and i DO NOT want to see a 3rd round rookie starting at Left OT.

    386949

how about an undrafted 2nd year guy - Jason Peters?

  5. By increasing his productivity I suppose you mean moving from the 3rd WR in the AFC in receptions to 2nd or 1st?  The guy had 88 receptions last year, if people think that Evans can put up those types of numbers they're kidding themselves.  Evens is more explosive but he'll never be the "go to" guy that puts up those types of receptions, he simply doesn't have the body  type, and frankly, its a waste of his skills.  A Team needs an explosive guy and a productive guy, we have that now.  If Moulds leaves we'll have to replace him with a WR capable of putting up 80+ receptions every year and leave Evans to keep doing what he did last year.

The only problem I see with Moulds' game from last year is his ypc could be about a yard more, which would put him right there with Marvin Harrison, Chad Johnson and Hines Ward.

    386139

He needs to imrove the other key stats- like TDs, yards per catch, yards after the catch.

He needs to be dominant to justify the huge salary.

not just catch a lot of short passes as the only WR that Drew would lock onto.

  6. He'll take a paycut.  He's a team player and has made almost as much money as the top WR's in the NFL these past few years.

    386022

yeah- he's the same high class, team player that Drew was, so we can expect Moulds to "cut" his $6 mil base pay to about $ 8 mil or so, just like Drew. :D

  7. KH, I can see your point. There is however SOME good news:

    1) Tucker was not bad last year. If Anderson beats him out, Tucker provides better than average depth imo.

    2) McNally seems to love Preston. More much needed depth.

    3) Teague, CV (my particular favorite) and Big Mike have a year together under in this system. It is not unreasonable to expect improvement.

That said, I too fear that Gandy will be the weak link.

    385248

If Gandy is shaky, Bills will either move Teague from C and let Preston play C or roll the dice with Jason Peters and scheme to protect him.

  8. Great read. Thanks for finding that.

Two things crossed my mind when reading that:

    1) I feel like a ball was set in motion to build a stout OL in the event that Bledsoe was here another year. And one could argue that if we beat Pittsburgh and backed into the playoffs, that would be a very real option. With Bledsoe gone, however, the effort continues forward to build a very stout line. In the back of my mind, I can see McNally realizing that if he can build a line to protect Bledsoe, he can build a line to protect anyone. There is work to be done with JP because I fear the running (around) he did in Tulane will kick right in against a heavy rush early in our season.  I'm hoping he can quickly learn to not make running his second option. The stouter the line, the quicker he learns.

    2) BB.com is the Bills' website, so at any given time if the brass wants to pass on a message, they have a great vessel through which to do it. Bills fans are pretty !@#$ing smart fans, and they know the OL is a problem. This struck me as an orchestrated story. And that's okay, because it was a good read...and even if it were orchestrated, at least TD is letting us he's onto us. ;)

    384818

The Bills line is being built to run a multi-dimensional offense with a strong focus on running the ball - not solely to protect the QB.

The Bills line has maulers, not finesse pass protectors.

The OL is an important component to the overall success and versatility of the offense.

The major problem with Drew that he needed a one dimensional OL to protect HIM to the detriment of the rest of the offensive gameplan.

  9. This article from the Murfreesboro Daily News Journal put an amusing, and decidedly Titanesque spin on the trade.

    http://www.dnj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?A.../507190305/1006

It basically says that the Titans owner wasn't really going to move forward with the trade until he heard Del Rio's comments from last week (where he said that the Jags were interested and close to a deal).

I can't stand Del Rio.  Anything that makes him and his big freaking yap look stupid is great by me!  ;)  :w00t:

    384909

to the contrary, Del Rio got a division rival in cap hell to overspend and use a vital draft pick on a position they have already filled.

    DelRio's comments were strategically made.

Now if there was an axe involved, that would be another matter.

  10. I

And Buffalo... Well we should be happy with our Backfield Stable. We have a resurgent Willis McGahee keen to prove to the world that all that college potential is now true NFL stardom, we have a capable backup in Lee,

So Tenn and Buff win - Jax don't even figure.

    384880

big quantum leap to consider Lee a capable backup when he is only a 2nd year unproven talent who was cut outright by the almighty Tuna.

  11. Here's a bit of what Culpepper faces this year:

... during Weeks 6 through 10 when Moss missed three games and saw limited action in two others because of a hamstring injury, the Vikings went 2-3 and barely beat the Lions. Culpepper averaged nearly 9.5 yards per pass with Moss and barely seven yards without him.

It’s doubtful rookie Troy Williamson or Nate Burleson can match Moss’s career average of nearly 16 yards per catch and 13 touchdowns a season now that the Vikes won’t have Moss to bear the brunt of opposing defenses. The Vikings also lost respected offensive coordinator, Scott Linehan. And Onterrio Smith, perhaps the club`s best pur runner, is suspended for the year follwing his now infamous `whizinator` incident.

    From http://www.covers.com/articles/articles.as...rt=49297&tid=27

I don't love any of these QBs, but Cullpepper is far from a no brainer. The best thing the Vikes have going for them is their weak division.

    384418

you are correct - you should go for the Manning name and take Eli.

  12. It adds scoring area.  The game didn't used to spend so much time below the goal line.  The extra 2 feet will give perimeter players an extra tick to make plays.

There is more skill in the NHL today than there was when Gretzky was dominating.  ALOT more.

    381631

they should expand the area behind the net, but move the blue lines closer together and keep the offensive zone the same size since there won't be any center redline.

  13. at least not capable of replacing Willis's production, I hope the Bills de-emphasize the running game somewhat instead of focusing on it.  I don't want them to overdo it with McGahee, leading to a serious injury due to overwork.

I'm prepared to take a few extra loses to develop a balanced attack.

    383907

A very astute Bills fan with some well thought out comments early in the morning.

Probably need to increase the caffeine level.

You will intentionally gameplan to lose games just to avoid the possbility that your RB may be overworked.

    Brilliant!

How many "extra" games do you think the Bills can lose and still make the playoffs?

  14. Disagree. Get rid of 2-line passing prohibition and you will populate the NHL with 160 lb "you touched me! you touched me! types", and the wheeling of defensemen, the forwards lurking on the boards to get a crisp pass and then fire a quick pass to a center who skates through the defense will be no more.

Hockey is meant to be a hard-fought contest played among hard men who play hard for a single score, not a da-ding!-da-ding! video game.

They have already done enough rule changes that have put the league deeply into the can - make it an instant-jolly shoot-out and kiss it goodbye.

    380888

they should also expand the area behind the net to increase playmaking - sort of like lacrosse and move the bluelines closer together to preserve the same area in front of the net.

Offense is what will bring in fans.

  15. one way to get it lower is to do a "simple restructuring.........this involves converting salary into signing bonus (reason being signing bonus can be amortized over the life of the deal whereas salary counts on the current year's cap)........the player gets paid the same, but cap dollars get pushed from the current year into future years.........the problem with this strategy is that those unamortized bonus dollars never go away until they hit the cap, whether the player is on the roster or not.........

another option is to do an "extension".........in this case the salary is again reduced, but to make up for that a new signing bonus is issued........this is added to the old "unamortized" signing bonus and is then amortized over the new life of the deal.........this is what the saints did with joe horn.......this makes more sense cap wise because you can set up 2 or 3 manageable years where you don't have to deal with the issue every season, but the catch is you are giving more cash to them so you want to make sure they will be around and not ready to take a slide in performance because the cap hit is nasty to dump them.........

because mould's cap number is 10 and his salary is 6 he has 4M in unamortized bonus for the '06 season.........he is also signed through '07, so double that to 8M.........THAT IS 8M THAT HAS TO HIT THE CAP AT SOME POINT........not a great situation to be in, but one that was created by extending his deal last year by only 1 year instead of a few.........to get it lower they could drop his salary and add more signing bonus to be amortized (not a great option because at that point there is only one year left on the contract -- you are just moving dollars into the 2007, creating a huge cap hit)........the other option is to drop his salary to the 1.5M level again, give him the difference in signing bonus again, but EXTEND THE DEAL BY A FEW SEASONS.......at that point the signing bonus can then be amortized further.........but it's a bad situation overall because eventually those signing bonus dollars are going to have to hit the cap.........

this is all the result of the bills backloading the deal and taking VERY SMALL CAP HITS the first few seasons of it.........for example, the bills only gave him 500K in salary in '01 and 1.55 in '02........those numbers should have been higher which would have helped balance out the backend of the contract........i think the bills will approach him again with another 1 year extension next off-season, but this just means that unamortized bonus number keeps growing and growing year after year........

    380472

By giving Moulds only a 1 year extension, I think it is pretty clear that his days in Buffalo are numbered. If TD had plans for him past 2005, that extension would have been for at least 2 years.

Unless Moulds rediscovers his explosiveness or takes a huge salary cut, he will be playing elsewhere in 2006.

  16. Seems I'm in error. Thanks for the correction. The two-line pass restriction to me adds much to the game, forcing team play, the pleasure of watching crisp passing and quick skate stops and positioning etc.

    380661

you must be watching the Olympics, not the NHL.

The center red line in the NHL only promotes the trap and a lot of clutching and grabbing. No continuous flow to the game or any real skating or play making.

  17. In his career he has never missed more than 3 games in any season.  In the last 5 years in the league, he's averaged 83 receptions and 1069 yards.

That is neither injury prone or underproductive.  In fact he has top 5 WR numbers and has been loyal to the Bills over his career and in my opinion isn't overpaid considering everyone knows that he will renegotiate.

Eric Moulds is excellent.  He's the reason that Peerless and Evans had so much success.  Give the guy his props and pay him.  He has earned the right to retire a bill if he is willing to be reasonable.

    t-r

    379941

Moulds has played through injuries, but those injuries have turned him into an ordinary WR.

He has not produced as an elite WR for a number of seasons.

He dropped passes last year, disappeared from games and was not a dominant player.

His numbers look awesome to you, but Harrison caught 140 passes and Holt consistently puts 1500+ yards.

Moulds has not produced at any where near those levels. Look at the TDs.

And this was with Drew locking onto Moulds at every opportunity. Hopefully, JP can get him into the end zone.

Unless Moulds "cuts" his base salary to $3 mil from $10 mil next year, he will be gone. There will be no JoBu magic to create dead money.

  18. paid off.....

We just finished up a Youth Wing T football camp offered this past weekend.....it is given by local high school coaches and a group of coaches who specialize in the Wing T formation.

My son is 13 years old and 143 pounds.....playing FB and LB....and won the overall player award for his age division.  He will be playing 2 more years of JAAF at this weight class (as long as he doesn't go over 160 next year) because he cannot play in high school till the year after next.

    380046

speed kills - gotta watch those amphetamines
