I can’t say that he didn’t need to get moved because I think it will be better for the team in the long run.  But I do think he did appreciate the fans.  As crazy as that stadium gets and as well as we travel, the players get it.  Any problems he had were inside the building, whether coaches or players we’ll never know.  The guy wants to win but eventually he wears out his welcome.

I think this is right and a perfectly reasonable take on this situation.

  2. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if Manti Te'o had a precipitous fall in the draft as time goes on. He is without peer in the character/leadership department. But there are major concerns about his game translating to the next level, chiefly his speed to the hole and his ability to play in space.

The 'Bama game will be telling. It's the best OL he'll have faced all season. They will put a hat on him like nobody else. If he does well against them and has a good combine and pro day, then his stock won't fall at all.

I hope he does great and proves himself.

    GO BILLS!!!

Are you serious? Have you seen him this year? Dropped 10-15 lbs before the season, is phenomenal in coverage, true sideline to sideline tackler. I have not seen a single concern raised about his ability to play in space.

  3. This is my biggest concern with this team and I think it also has to do with why a lot of us were hoping for a WR early in the draft. Personally, I thought the difference between Michael Floyd and our second WR (call it Donald Jones) was a lot greater than the difference between Gilmore and Drayton Florence. However, I'm afraid that philosophical rigidity and an unwavering commitment to the horizontal passing game played a part in the Bills waiting on WR at the draft. Sure, they tried to bring in Meacham, but when that didn't work out, they didn't do much else to get better at WR. My fear is that the coaching staff does not see the need for a big bodied, physical, vertical passing threat in this offense.

I'm really worried that Chan thinks that he can scheme around the talent deficiencies at WR and find quicker route runners to fit his scheme. But, I think that scheme only works to an extent. In the NFL there's too much talent for a single scheme to dominate for a long period of time as all teams will adjust. You have to have good players that can create mismatches.

Right now, I see a very one-dimensional passing game, and I don't see the talent on the roster to adjust.

  4. Landry's really got his work cut out for him this year with the suspension or transfer of three of his top four targets. Kameel Jackson is transferring to Texas A&M, Jaz Reynolds was suspended 7 games, and Trey Franks was suspended for the year.

We'll really see what he's made of this year. I don't expect him to flourish. He lost steam last year with Broyles out but atleast had the aforementioned three plus Kenny Stills. This year, all he has is Stills (which is a big help), Dejuan Miller, and some inexperienced youth. Jaz Reynolds, in particular, was supposed to breakout this year.

  5. Ken Whisenhunt has rarely started a rookie in Game 1.

He has been having quadriceps problems.

About 30% of SB Nation say he won't start Week 1.

    Here's a discussion:

    http://www.revengeofthebirds.com/2012/5/20/3032740/rotb-reader-poll-by-when-will-michael-floyd-become-a-starter-for-the-arizona-cardinals

I will bet Michael Floyd will be injured early in the season but will be starting by Week 4.

So one guy's (on SB Nation no less) speculation that Floyd won't start, based purely on some over-broad generalization that Whisenhunt doesn't start rookies, translates to "Floyd unlikely to start"? What a ridiculous statement. I just don't understand what people here have against Michael Floyd. The article you cite as your source, spurious as it is, even admits that Floyd will get a ton of snaps, even if he doesn't start.

Why don't you wait to see what Floyd produces before dismissing his career and insinuating that he's a draft bust.

  6. To me, signing Vince Young is a good thing, and not because I think he's any good. It tells me they're serious about winning now. If Fitz goes down, they're not going to pack it in and limp towards another high draft pick. They want to find a guy that will be able to win some games and at least give them a puncher's chance at making the playoffs this season.

He won't compete with Fitz because he can't make a pre-snap read. He will, however, be able to make a couple big plays here and there in an offense that is leaning heavily on its running game and he does have a big enough arm to keep defenses honest. Thigpen can't even provide that.

  7. Is it just me, or does this feel like an incredible bargain? How much does Fred get if he doesn't get hurt last year and ends up with 1400 yds rushing and 800 yds receiving? This is an MVP caliber player in this offense. I can't wait to get things going this year. Can't remember being this excited about a team.

  8. A lot of the criticism had to do with the fact that they took Maybin, a project, over Orakpo, a sure thing.

Plenty of analysts thought Maybin would develop into an elite pass rusher in a couple of years. I don't think the pick was as bad as Irvin at the time because most people had tagged Maybin with a first round grade. It was just that they skipped the established pass rusher in Orakpo.

One of the craziest things I remember from the time is people making the argument that Orakpo was too strong in the weightroom already, that his strength didn't translate on the field, and that he had maximized his potential and wouldn't ever improve. The argument being that Maybin had all of this upside and room for growth whereas Orakpo was as good as he'd ever be.
