I was listening to Colin Cowherd and he said according to league sources Rosen is already blowing everyone away.

According to the source Rosen "looked incredible" and is already a virtual lock to be starting week 1.

    Did we mess this up?

Ask me this question after he gets hit, the career ending concussion is just around the corner, this guy has a glass jaw.

I honestly don't know.  For whatever reason, they obviously

    1) had Allen rated above him on their board, and

    2) had Allen rated highly enough to be worth trading to #7

So all we can do now is hope Allen is able to do what he says, and make the Bills "look smart" for believing in him.

    4 reasons,

    2 concussions

    1 bum shoulder

1 arrogant SOB with Ryan Leaf Syndrome

Even if Allen's a bust and Rosen is great, he is 1 concussion away from the end of the line!

  3. As far as this draft goes, I am convinced of one thing  - the new management has some stones. The Bills still have 6 picks this year and not touched anything from next year, with a class deep with Guards don't be surprised to see Brandon come back into the second with next years third and this years fourth and fifth from this year to get a guard and RT with his new second round pick and third round pick.

    Just a hunch!!

This is sick.  There are no obvious Kelly's, Elway's, Luck's, P. Manning's, Newton's, in this draft.  Too many folks are QB drunk.  That includes a lot of folks on this board.  When the draft is so clearly unknown in the top 1-10 that has to tell you that these QB's are not like the premier guys from the past.  I trust OBD brass to know that.   What do you think?

Sooooooooooooo - what you are saying is you don't like this QB class?

Ok - After all of the craziness that has occurred in the past few months, we are in a lot better of position than I previously thought.  Below is a comparison of effectively last year's lineup vs. today's.  We are slightly better going into the draft and are still pending 5 quality picks.   Outlook - Positive

    Last year/This year

QB - Taylor/McCarron - Wash to slight downgrade - McCarron is an unknown - prob won't start

    RB - McCoy - unch

    FR - DiMarco - unch

    WR1 - Benjamin - unch

    WR2 - Jones - unch

    TE - Clay - unch

    LT - Dawkins - unch

    LG - Incognito - unch

C - Wood/ Groy&Bodine - Losing Wood hurts, but a lot of people thought Groy was going to upstage him anyway.  Bodine was a starter in Cincy - wash

RG - Ducasse - unch (draft pick?)

    RT - Mills/ unch&Newhouse - wash at worst

    DT - Williams

    DT - Washington/Lotulelei - upgrade

    DE - Lawson/Murphy - wash to upgrade

    DE - Hughes - unch

    OLB - Alexander - unch

    MLB - Brown/Milano - I am a big Milano fan - slight upgrade

OLB - Humber&Milano/Humber - slight downgrade (fill in the draft)

    CB - White - unch

    CB - Gaines/David - slight upgrade

    S - Hyde - unch

    S - Poyer - unch

I can't believe how dumb we are, if we have a guy like Unch on the roster, who can clearly play a number of positions, lets trade him for the number two pick. His combine numbers were off the chart!!

  7. There is no way the bills take Lamar Jackson before Mason Rudolph. Lamar is Robert Griffin all over again, way to skinny and wont be able to take hits, our line stinks, he is going to get hit a lot and he is Tyrod Taylor and they don't like what Tyrod brings.

Lamar will be at best a back up or out of the league with Knee problems in 2 years.

I think the bills are going to sit an wait and hope Mason falls to them, he can chuck a ball and yes I know he is coming from a week conference but the NFL is a throwing game now and no one can deny Mason can throw.

If Mason is gone its Mike White, but they are not moving up, there is no sure shot at QB this year and Mason and White have the same chances as the others to be Franchise QB's

    JMO

  8. I hope they do this right, 4 picks in the first two rounds and free agency, do not address qb this year, draft an LB, DT,  2 interior lineman and move on from incognito and miller and mills as starters, keep Glenn, resign Gaines, take a RB in the third and then load up with corners.

if they do this right and build a kick as front for a QB than draft whoever you want next year, move up and take the guy you want, unless Mike white is there in the 4th (which I doubt) sign a journeyman QB.

If the o-line is great the chance of your 1st round qb picks goes through the roof.

    just my opinion

Eastern Illinois, Miami, and ND State are all D1 schools.

    Mike White is a sleeper.

i agree its mike white in the second or third for me!!

i actually think white is the best QB in the class and most ready. Truth is qb is a crap shoot, its far more rare to hit on a guy in the first round than it is to miss, so keep picking until you get lucky, but if you get a great o-line first that keep him off the ground just about any qb will work. Taylor improved our o-lines stats because he can get out of the pocket and avoid sacks, his sack number is far less than it would be if he stayed in the pocket.

Keep Glenn and move him to the rignt side (hope he stays heathly for a year and then take a RT in the first), keep dawkins at left the kid is a baller, get Groy in and get rid of both interiors and pay some money and get the best we can afford in Free agency.

then draft Mike White and you have a franchise QB, use first three picks on the defensive side of the ball, DT, ML and and a pass rusher.

any of these 1 st round names ring a bell, EJ Manual, Jake Locker, Brandon Weeden, Manzel, Brady Quinn, Time Tebow, Christian Ponder, Blain Gabbert, Griffen, Sanchez, Josh Freeman all misses, its only a fool that drafts a qb without a line.

  10. Just wondering everyone's thoughts on this, we have 6 picks in the first 3 rounds and both our lines are in trouble. Drafting a QB and putting him behind a sub par O line is going to amount in a bust in my opinion. would we not be better off drafting a RT and trying to get rid of Glenn in a Trade?

We should be looking at RT, And a LG to replace Richie as well as a Tackle to replace Kyle Maybe 2 tackles we also need another pass rusher, i like Shaq, he can set the edge but he did struggle a bit the last couple of games but If we cant keep the QB off the ground and safe its a wasted pick.

I am not even sure Petterman cant be the guy with a line in front of him, he does have a strong enough arm, a fast release, decent runner, i bet he is a different QB with a Line in front of him.

I just think the days of letting your #1 pick if a qb have a season to develop, if P. Manning came out today, he may never have played past the 3rd or 4th game, never mine a whole season.

If i was drafting i would be looking at draft players in expensive positions like LT, RT, DT, Pass Rusher, QB and corners most they other positions we need like RG, LG and LB we can get deals on, I just dont think we have a strong enough line to draft a QB and expect a result.

If we do this and let Petterman play a season he is either a different QB behind a good line or a bust in which case hopefully we can draft a qb in 19 with a great Oline, just look at Philly and Dallas two extremes, a first rounder and a 4th rounder bit both teams have great lines

so go ahead and rip me a new one.

One thing that got magnified in yesterday's disaster was how terrible pass protection looked on the right side of the line. Taylor's mobility/escape-ability has masked this problem all season long. I'm curious to know if Ryan Groy and John Miller are worse options at RG instead of Vlad Ducasse and if Seantrel Henderson is a worse option at RT instead of Johnathan Mills? Ducasse and Mills have been horrible all year long and it seems both of their jobs have been safe.

I have been saying for the last 3 seasons that our line sucks but its bigger than the right side, Ritchie has one year left, Glenn can't stay healthy and we are ok with woods because we have Groy, TT is bad but he is masking the issues on the line, we need to draft or sign a RT, RG, LT, LG, ML, DT before we even think of drafting a QB, its a shame because they are going to go back to TT, he is going to hide the line issues and they will draft another qb who will get killed. Have the best line in the league and just about any decent QB can be a franchise, look at Dallas and Philly, please fix the line

  12. 3 hours ago, NewDayBills said:

It's pointless to worry about any other position until we have a franchise QB on the roster.

you need to fix the line next year, Ritchie is 100 years old, Mills stinks at RT, Glen is always hurt. Once you deal with that and you can keep a franchise QB from getting killed then go get a QB until then everyone will fail. Just look at Luck  and then look at Wentz, If you keep the passer safe you even have a chance with Petterman because he reads the field fast and releases the ball.

  13. I have been hearing a lot about trading out starting LT, and all I keep hearing is it would take a lot to get him, but any guesses on what that means?

is it a first? is it two first? is it first and a second?

or is this even possible with his contract?

I think Dawkins is going to be a good Tackle, left looks better than right and with Henderson back whom I thought did really well last year covering for Glenn we could be in good shape, that is if the wake up and get rid of Mills, I am struggling to see what everyone else see in him.

  14. This will be the perfect storm for obtaining one of the top qb's in next years draft. Tyrod is not good enough to ascend this team, but he is good enough to push us out of the qb sweepstakes. Where we might end up (with Tyrod at qb) in the draft and KC's pick might not be enough to land one of the top qb's in next years draft. There' s a reason why McDermott is not just handing the qb position to Tyrod. Retaining Tyrod was a wise strategic move to not send "Rebuild Mode" signal to fan base. Also retaining Tyrod gives the team a pawn in trade options. Ex; Sam Bradford last season. Anyone who thinks Buffalo is not in "Rebuild Mode" is fooling themselves. Mark my word on this move.

hey are they hiring where you work, obviously you are allowed to drink through the day!! :bag:

  15. we might get a bag of footballs and a pair of seasons tickets to the blue jays and mean Joe Green for him, he is worthless until he can prove he can play, and if he does prove he can play we pick up the option and then sign him.

The injury protection would be difficult to over come.

  16. I have been reading a lot about the 2017 draft class and everyone seems to be on the same page about depth. There seems to be an abundance of quality at least one of our needs and not so much at the others. This draft seems to be deep with Corners so I think the Bills deal with that in the third, I think they will find a starter there just based on how many there are.

If you look at OG there is not a lot of quality and wide receivers seems to be a little bit deeper but maybe not to much unless they are looking for a #2, which I think is the right move for now and hope Sammy is healthy.

They have to keep TT off the ground and in the pocket so he can throw the ball this year, my gut tells me with such a weak OT class that is were the first pick lies and hope a good receiver slips or we get a good shot at a #2 in the second.

Myself personally would like to see them draft a receiver but based on depth I'm betting its OT, then if TT sucks hopefully our OL will be among the best in the league and we can draft a QB since next years QB class seems better.

    Any thoughts...

  17. If I was the Bills GM for 1 moth I would,

Switch back to a 4 - 3 Defense, move Hughes back up front and run with Both Browns, Ragland and Lorenzo as your LB's

    let go of:

Shady and free up some cash and get out of a very expensive contact on an aging always hurt RB (mind you, hurt and all he still puts up numbers)

TT and EJ and run with 2 rookies and CJ, yes it will hurt but its going to hurt anyway , so lets see if we can find a stud

Dan Carpenter and sign anyone cheap

Goodwin - the guy sucks or give him a shot at punt returner

    Draft:

1st rd = Best QB Available

2nd rd = Best Safety available

3rd rd = Best QB available

4rd, rd best RB available (even though I think we have a good rookie and decent veteran left on the roster

    5th, secondary

    6th, secondary

    7th , kicker

    Sign

Gilmore, we could do worse, he got much better this year

sign the best Right Guard free agent we can

Lorenzo, see if he would sign a 2 year deal

woods, he has been steady eddy

best free agent # 2 receiver

    a durable back up RB

sign the best corner other than Gilmore

    Zack Brown

Finally beg K. Williams to come back

Lawson and Ragland will be like adding 2 new picks and I hope will be pay off.

Ok members go ahead and give it to me!

  18.

Not for the first time this week I am 100% with you John.

13player suggests Terry acted suddenly in firing Rex. I submit he didn't. I submit he realised his mistake during year 1 of the shambles and came extremely close to making Rex a 1 and done coach. The ONLY and I do believe ONLY reason he didn't is because he realised it is a bad look for a new owner to make his first hire, give the guy a 5 year deal and get rid after 1 year. I think Rex had to make the playoffs or was out from the very start this year.

I never suggested he acted suddenly, I am stating he acted out side his plan. I believe he wanted to fire Rex, I also believe he had a plan on how and why he was going to do it. I know very few executives in any industry that act outside the plan unless something forces then to change the plan and not discuss with any key trusted sources and request opinions.

He may have said to himself - Aw screw it I was going to Fire Rex next week but he just pissed me off so I will do it now without seeking any counsel, that is well with in his rights to do. I just do not know any executives outside of Trump who operate this way. Decisions are made for a desired outcome, calculated, managed and prepared for, when you change the plan because you feel like changing the plan, you willingly put the rest of your teams plan in Jeopardy.

I could be overthinking this, I just believe something bigger is out there, to me the proof points to Whaley is next, and for all those people who don't think he would let Whaley lead the search and then fire the guy. This happens all time here is the reason - if they had a plan which they did it would have involved Whaley, he also would have had many discussions on the type of guy they wanted, so continue with the plan in place, just pick up best you can on where you broke away from it.

Ultimately Pegula must have wanted the new coach that was chosen and he signed off on, Whaley was just a Pion to bring in the people.

Again just my opinion and thinking through as a business person. Whaley's days are numbered.

  19. You are over-thinking the situation to the extent that it borders a conspiracy. With respect to the Rex firing I don't doubt that Rex initiated the phone call and asked if it was true that the owner was considering firing him he should do it before the final game. You are making it seem that it forced the owner to do something that he didn't want to do. That in my opinion is a wrong interpretation of the situation.

Rex isn't usually the smartest person in the room, unless he is in the room with his brother. But he isn't so stupid that he doesn't know how the business he is in works. The reality is that Rex knew that there was substance to the swirling rumors that he was going to be fired soon after the season. It's understandable that he didn't want to face the NY media and the media in general before and after the game dealing with the questions pertaining to his coaching demise.

Let's look at this issue from Pegula's perspective. He is the owner who watches the games. He sees a defense led by a self-proclaimed defensive guru being shredded. He sees a team with a high payroll for players and coaches playing with a lack of intelligence and discipline. The longer Rex coached this team the more chaotic and ineptly it performed. The remedy is simple for the owner: Get rid of the fool that I mistakenly hired. After every season there is an organizational meeting to review the status of the team and the performance of the staff. It's not difficult to conclude that Rex was going to be fired for cause i.e. hideous incompetence.

The issue of Whaley's authority on whether it diminishing or not with the new HCing hire is a manufactured issue not grounded on the reality of how Whaley and this franchise functions. Whaley is not a dictatorial GM who foists his decisions on people. His approach to managing is emphasizing collaboration. Let's look at how he treated Rex? He gave him everything he needed to succeed. He dedicated a draft and free agency to bring in his kind of players. Whatever staff Rex wanted (including his sloppy brother) who added another layer of confusion and incompetency to the mix the braggart HC got. My central point is that there is no authority issue between the GM and HC because this GM is one of the most accommodating bosses in the league. There is no need for a HC to demand an expansion of his responsibilities/authority because it isn't an issue.

The issue of job security for Whaley is the same as it is for all GMs. If you don't win at a satisfactory level that meets the owners' expectations you will be gone. The belief that Whaley will be gone in the next 8 weeks or so is ridiculous.

Again, just looking from a business point, something happened on that conference call to force Pegula to react. You are all right, Rex may have said some insulting things and Pegula reacted. I just don't think that Pegula is that kind if guy, In the past he has shown that he is sometimes to passionate but if he had made the plan to fire Rex, and I believe he did, why did he react so fast before the end of the season.

    Just an Opinion.

  20.

I agree, very bad idea for exactly the reasons you cite: everybody's decision is no one's accountability.

Where has this come out? I've heard speculation, but have the Bills actually announced this?

Also, it would be very unusual (I think) to fire a GM just before the NFL draft. Teams usually cut ties either after the season, or after the draft.

I agree, But New coach, New Era! coach will decide who they resign, 26 players no joke here and probably wants to be held accountable for his team, not Rex and Whaley's team, make sense to axe Whaley now and start fresh, with new regime deciding who they resign, who the draft and who they go after in free agency. Still time to find a GM, but with all player decisions going to the coach, he really does not need Whaley or a GM.

The shared power thing was in Sully's story posted on our board.
