  1. I know we need a QB. Today finally turned me. But I think we would do any young QB a disservice by not taking the Cowboys approach of building a solid offensive line for (insert QB name here) to play behind. I think we have pieces, but aren't solid tackle to tackle.

    Thoughts?

  2. So if the Bills weren't going to pay Sammy Watkins next year, what makes you think they are going to pay Jordan Matthews?

And even with all the "ammunition" in the world, don't forget:

    - The Jets have one of the worst rosters in 20 years

    - The Browns also have tons of draft picks and need a QB

    - There is no guarantee all the top guys will be coming out of school next year

What if he becomes a FA and the Bills sign him?

  3. Having picks means nothing if they're not used correctly.

It's nice to have all those picks, but we need to use them on quality franchise building players (something we've failed miserably in acquiring for the past 5+ years).

We just hired a competent GM. The past 5 (or 17) years aren't on his watch.

  4. Great post. I agree, I think the Bills' decisions this offseason have been intelligent, aside from the failure to retain Gillislee, which goes back to not placing a higher tender. But great offseason nonetheless and I think we'll see a few more signings to get us excited about before the season starts. (ex. Milloy)

By the way, this is my 1st post. I've been following this forum for Bills news since BBMB was shut down (wish I knew about this forum before). The negatively for every single decision, even Assistant GM, is ridiculous. Cheer up my friends, it's almost summer time.

    Amen. And great first post.

  5. Eh, outside of this past year, I can't say I'm a big fan of Miami's scouting department. They went after names, not talent.

I've been coming here sporadically and posts like this are the reason why. I understand 17 years sucks and Pegula's attempt to make a splash with the Ryan circus was an unmitigated disaster. But reading stuff like this makes my blood pressure rise.

This offseason feels different. Every hire we have made is respected across the league and I will defer to the people in the know before buying into the (admittedly warranted) cynicism on this board.

The Bills are making sound decisions. Finally. Time will tell if it equates to wins and playoffs, but I have to say this is the most optimistic I have been in over a decade. Just my Two Cents.

  6. I also have first hand knowledge, and given that, I assume you feel that all sales and marketing directed at end suppliers is bribery, given the logical extensions of your position.

    Which is absurd.

Yet, it's even more absurd that you feel this is worth discussing as a major driver of pharma costs when compared to our subsidization of costs for the rest of the world.

Let me say this as directly as possible: The reason all of Europe and the rest of the socialized West is able to artificially keep the costs of their drugs down is because the US subsidizes those costs. It's not a replicatable model, and if we do as GG suggests (and I happen to agree), drug companies will be forced to raise their costs with other developed nations, which will break their already strained (and in several cases already failing) models.

If you pull the demographics most likely to be healthy out of the risk pool, you drive up costs for those on the other end of the spectrum.

I'm interested what failing models you are referring to. Not questioning the validity of your statement, just curious about specifics.

  7. To the Gilmore guys blowing up this thread, he didn't deserve top 5 corner money. Gilmore is good but not great. Also, he doesn't fit into McDermott's scheme. Sean needs corners who can play mostly zone with some man and press mixed in there, and he needs tough corners who can come up and play the run. Gilmore is all bump and run and he stinks in run support.

We just picked a durable corner who started all four years only missing a couple games. He is a smart leader and some experts say was the second highest rated CB in the draft. He can return punts, was a two year captain (wearing #18 for LSU is a big deal) and he can play inside/outside and man or zone. I love the pick. Oh, and we picked up another 3rd and 1st? That's what the pats and good teams have done for years.

Your logic is too logical. Your emotions are supposed to trump logic (no pun intended, but I like it).

  8. We got the #2 (according to PFF coverage grades) corner in the draft - a big need for us.

And we got an extra 1st round pick and 3rd round pick.

I call it a good day.

    Here's PFF's summary:

    • Whites coverage grade of 89.8 was the second-highest coverage grade for all draft eligible CBs.
    • White allowed a completion percentage of 41.7 percent on throws into his coverage in 2016.
    • He missed just five tackles in 2016, ranking in the top 21 percent of all cornerbacks with at least 500 defensive snaps.
    • With the loss of Stephon Gilmore in free agency, White is an important addition that is versatile enough to play both the slot and on the outside.

The few missed tackle stat alone makes this a great pick. Our secondary tackling has been atrocious.

BILLS START WINNING AT END OF THE SEASON TO RUIN THERE CHANCES AT TAKING FRANCHISE QB. EPIC FAIL!!!!!

You lost me when you said "loose".

  10. Because TT gives them the best chance to win in 2017. That's kind of the point. You either keep him and build on where you are or you start over. This isn't a good QB draft and the market is extremely limited. It's not a crazy idea at all. You either keep the best option to win in 2017 or start over. To start over, resetting is a much better option trying to win 7 games next year and be in the same place in 2018.

I agree with this. I missed this thought process in your OP.
