  1. With our shiny new players, whats Ryan Denney's role on the team now? They seem to really love Chris Kelsay for his strong run stopping abilities, and Aaron Maybin will likely be replacing him on 3rd downs. If Chris Ellis steps it up and turns into a decent pass rusher, he should ideally be replacing Aaron Schobel when he needs a rest. To me, it seems like they want to phase out Denney from the team.

    - Aaron Schobel - 3 down DE.

    - Chris Kelsay - LE for run stopping

    - Aaron Maybin - replacing Kelsay for more pressure

    - Ryan Denney - Schobel's replacement for now

    - Chris Ellis - Future replace

i believe denney is a free agent after the '09 season, so he's winding down anyway

ellis is going to have to earn a spot on the active roster after last season......and of course, injuries can happen

  2. What do you think are all the possible holes this team has that need to be filled on day 2 of the draft, undrafted free agents, and free agents. Mine are:

RT (depending on whether or not levitre plays RT or how good Bell/Chambers really are)

OLB (We need one, but there are some good OLBs still in Free Agency we could pick up)

    TE

    FB

DT (A big DT wouldn't hurt)

RT - i think the bills are happy with bell, chambers, and possibly butler and/or levitre competing

OLB - get reddie keiaho on the phone now before someone else does

TE - YES! give me sheftler for the 4th or use it on a guy who slips

FB - YES! not hard to find in the 5th or 6th

DT - i reaaaaaaaaly wanted raji, but i actually think the bills are going to be okay there IF mccargo reverts back to his '07 form. stroud, williams, johnson, and mccargo is a solid 4.

  3. buffalo needs to take a page out of denver's book and just move quickly on getting peters out of town as soon as possible......make it known he's available, take the picks you can get, and move on........he is more trouble then he's worth and painted buffalo into a corner (i.e. pay me a ridiculous amount that is more then i'm worth and then i may produce or i'll holdout again and suck on the field)

  4. i think stafford and sanchez are gone before the bills pick, which is fine - the more QB's that go before us results in more position players of need falling

sanchez could go as high as #2 or #3, if the rams or chiefs deal back, or even to the seahawks at #4 as they are monitoring all the QB's closely (perhaps as a smokescreen, perhaps not)

but if sanchez is off the board at #4 or earlier that could really raise freeman's stock.........would be ideal to see him taken before us, sliding another player down the board...........even if he's there when we pick it should open up some trade possibilities with the broncos and jets

  5. The problem is that the Bills lose out on a deal even if they get two firsts from Philly for Peters. The two first round picks would be lower first round picks which virtually assures that any LT they draft is going to spend most of next year learning to become a vet and LT will be a troubled spot on a team which desperately needs to make the playoffs next year.

The really bad thing is that the above scenario only happens if we are lucky since despite the conventional wisdom that a 1st round choice should be a starter, the reality is its about 50/50 that a 1st round pick even is going to first on the depth chart at their position in their second year.

I think the best sign that the Bills are not going to trade Peters is that just as if they mortgaged the present for an uncertain future by drafting Peters replacement or getting some journeyman in late FA, the team has no real plan B for going without Peters starting. Moving Walker over works in a pinch for a game or two, but is not a solution the Bills will want to go with. Given the playoff drought and being guaranteed only a year of TO I think the Bills will want to go for it this season and resigning Peters is a likely important part of that strategy.

i've seen you raise these points in other posts and i frankly disagree strongly with them..........the bills can find a replacement for peters in the first round - be it with the 11th pick or a later pick acquired for peters......i'd rather take my risk in the draft then roll the dice on a ridiculous contract for peters that could handcuff this franchise for years - and that appears the only way he'll sign is if he gets something ridiculous

i'm sure you didn't expect ryan clady to put up a pro-bowl type season in his rookie year - in fact, i'm sure you would have said it was impossible.......but it happens

i remember when the colts were left without a LT when tarik glenn abrubtly retired - they turned around and grabbed ugoh in the SECOND round and haven't looked back since.......has that offense missed a beat?

it's the same short-sighted and ultimately incorrect arguement you made in regards to filling the MLB spot a couple seasons ago - how a rookie could never step in and learn the playcalls, for some outlandish reason......PP came in and won the job out of training camp by doing just that, and would have been damn effective if not for the injury

the bills need to move on if they have that option.......a 1st round pick would do the trick and they would be in a much better position going forward........give me andre smith or oher at #11 and pettigrew/pass rusher/mack at the other 1st rounder and let's move on without the dead weight........rookies can play just fine if you draft well - and they can often perform better then "pro-bowl" malcontents who don't give a damn about the team

  6. IF the bills can get a 1st for him, they have to - he is more trouble then he's worth......he won't be missed by me, not after all the games he played last off-season

IF the bills can't get a 1st for him, the foolishness continues........i not convinced any team will want this malcontent around at that draft pick cost, especially considering the financial commitment that he apparently feels is warranted.......that's fine though, the bills can roll with it - and peters can roll with 2 more years on his contract and play them out, like it or not

  7. exactly... he's not an idiot. we are weakest at those spots and he is making it seem as though we are content. expect june or keiaho to sign after the draft, closer to June 1.....

i hope we aren't waiting that long to sign a starting LB........for the amount of money we are talking about here (i.e. pennies), it isn't worth having a guy miss all the spring sessions and the chance to build some camaraderie with his teammates

  8. You read "fined" and concluded "paid"? We all know he was fined, this is nothing new.

The full quote makes it clear they are simply recounting the situation as it was last year:

"After being fined more than $600,000 for the time he missed, Peters agreed to report only after the Bills provided him an assurance—but not a guarantee— they would discuss a new contract."

This simpy says that he was fined for not coming in to camp and after having been fined, ie, an event that occurred last year, he then came in to camp after some warm fuzzzies were exchanged with the team. Did you not know he had been fined from the first non-voluntary practice he missed so that this is suddenly news to you?

Reading comprehension is a lost art.

i am shocked that, with the use of your brilliant reading comprehension, you have reached this biased conclusion! i wouldn't expect anything less from jason peters' biggest apologist!

if they are recounting the situation why didn't they say "these fines were later waived" or "there is some doubt as to whether these fines were ever paid"? seems strange to leave out such an important detail as they recount the entire situation, don't ya think?

the article indicates the only thing the bills gave him was the assurance that his contract would be discussed once he reported.......as per the article, doesn't appear they gave him a forgiveness on the fines

  9. most interesting part of that article was "After being fined more than $600,000 for the time he missed".........that's the first time i've seen it in print that he was in fact fined and that they weren't just waived once he reported.........and that certainly shoots a hole in the arguments made by some that peters didn't lose anything from his holdout

  10. i'm really hoping for raji or brown out of that #11 pick, and it might happen.......i know people are saying they'll likely be off the board by the time our pick rolls around, and that is certainly possible, but everyone needs to remember that there is usually a surprise or two in the top 10 that pushes a projected top 10 guy down the order a bit......last year it was derrick harvey and jerod mayo who very few had in their mock top 10 but went 8th and 10th respectively

  11. If the lions decided they want a guy they could get in the 10-20 range (and if that's all they're willing to pay); they'd be much better served to trade down, and get something of value. In general, guys get paid based on where they're picked, not where they would have been picked.

who wants the #1 pick with the price tag associated with it? the fact of the matter is the lions (or the phins last year) couldn't give it away
