  1. Well, let's not get goofy here. We're not running Amazon.com ya know.

I'm willing to go to 4 small 15k SCSI disks. I do not know the details of the RAID controller, only that it costs more money!

You are right it's all about load. I would still recommend splitting your OS and Data onto seperate RAID channels. That is sound advice regardless of load. It lays the ground work for growth and it significantly increases performance.

  2. We run our database servers with three channel cards. 15k Hot-pluggable drives. 1st channel is for the OS -- it's at RAID 0. 2nd Channel is for Transaction Logs -- it's also at RAID 0. 3rd Channel is for the data and it's a RAID 5.

At a minimum you need the OS and Data on seperate channels. Keep in mind if you drop transaction logs, you are going to feel it regardless of which channel you drop to. Which is why we dedicate a channel to tlogs. We drop every hour. If you want to run the Data on a RAID 10 -- you absolutely can. We have never needed it. You will get a better performance increase from dedicating a hardware RAID channel to your data and setting it to a RAID 5 and stuffing as many disks as you can in the channel. RAID 5 performance increases significantly with each extra drive added.

Hardware RAID channel being the operative word. Software RAID has no place on a database server... any server for that matter.

  3. in the third round, would you be happy? I know the "experts" like Mel Kiper would be raving about what a good job we did but in my opinion we would be in worse shape than we are now. I'm amazed at how many people are complaining about what a bad draft we had just because we passed up on a few of the mock draft darlings. Nix got us a bunch of hard workers who have the potential to make an immediate impact, not 3 "projects" who may or may not produce in the NFL. I know there are no guarantees but I feel very good about the players we just added to this roster.

CJ Spiller will have an immediate impact on how teams have to defend us which will hopefully improve the entire offensive production. I am excited to see what our defense looks like thise year and think we added a couple of guys who will produce from day one. I am much happier to have a draft class that will make an impact on the field as opposed to one that gets us a few headlines after the draft and then fails to produce in the long run. Time will tell but I like what I see so far.

    +1

I am really looking forward to this season. I have not been able to say that for quite a while.

  4. I have had Sunday Ticket for 10+ seasons. This season will be no different.

When we passed on Mike Sherman to hire Dick--I pretty much just DVR'ed the games and would skip watch them later. Living in the Green Bay market I saw Dick's body of work in Chicago pretty much first hand--I knew we were screwed.

This season I will be back to my old self watching them live in their entirety.

We finally have a solid front office and by all appearances they are being allowed to run it the way they see fit. I like the plan--I like the execution. We will see how it all comes out in the end.

  5. Buddy Nix's formula to build his Buffalo Bills appears to be 98% draft, and only use Free Agency to "fill in gaps."

But wait a minute here. The Bills have huge gaps right now at tight end and wide receiver. They have plenty of money under the cap, right now. Yet Antonio Bryant and Ben Watson have just signed very reasonable contracts with other NFL teams, while Nix didn't even invite either one in for a visit. And please, don't reply to this post by telling me Antonio Bryant would not have been an improvement over Stevie Johnson or James Hardy. Or try to convince me that Shawn Nelson will become a better tight end this season then Ben Watson will be. Those arguments are laughable.

Now I'm thinking that Buddy Nix is more then just an old fashioned draft - first football guy. Now I'm thinking that Buddy Nix has a level of arrogance hiding beneath that "good ol" boy" exterior. Just becuase Watson and Bryant have had excellent seasons in the past, and they are well known (but certainly not "super stars") - he won't bring them in? He seems to be selecting more "unknown - under the radar" free agents to talk to and possibly sign, like Green and now this visit by Jimmy Kennedy. Is he taking his "personnel expertise" a bit too seriously? Who knows?

The one thing I do know is that if Nix would have signed both Bryant and Watson, every Bills fan would feel better about our 2010 team, and not one single Bills fan would be accusing him of "breaking the salary cap bank stupidly".

I think you are taking your expertise (or lack there of) a little too seriously. Good thing Buddy actually has real world experience.

  6. I love the uprising of the defiant, unconditional (lemming) Bills fans on this board lately. It's like the Bills fan version of the crazy right wing "Tea Party". Next thing you know you dummies are going to bring your guns to the Ralph on Sundays.

I thought everyone else was packing too. My bad.

  7. You guys do realize that:

    1. That JP article is really old...

    and more importantly:

    2. JP Losman doesnt play for the Raiders. He is a UFA in 2010 as his deal was a one year which was essentially about a 3 week deal.

So, before we start annoiting him the starter in Oakland we should probably wait to see if they even sign him.

He is listed on the Raiders 2009 & 2010 rosters. http://www.raiders.com/team/roster.html

This is history repeating itself. Daryle Lamonica anyone?

I have always liked JP. I especially liked the way he moved into the city and was front and center. I think he could have made a big stink when he was in Buffalo--but he chose to take the high road. I respect that quite a bit.

  8. Wherever you are there you are. Buffalo is cool. Its not Laguna beach. NEWS FLASH FOLKS!! Who cares? Wisconsin is like Western NY and they all could give a sh*t about what people think. I love my relatives who come here from Wisconsin. They are chill and happy to be alive. Just because NY used to be the "EMPIRE STATE" people get busy beating us up and we feel sorry for ourselves. I'm not buying it. Time to embrace the 21st century and crack open a Pabst like my Wisconsinites.

    This Wisconsinite agrees with you.

  9. On January 9, 2010, in the Eagles' NFC Wildcard game against the Dallas Cowboys, Vick threw the longest touchdown pass of his career, connecting in the second quarter with rookie Jeremy Maclin for a 76-yard score. On January 11, Reid named McNabb the Eagles' 2010 starter. Vick said, "I know I can still play at a high level." When asked if he wants the Eagles to pick up the second year of his contract, he replied, "I hope so...I feel like I'm probably better than I ever was in my career, as far as the mental aspect of the game."

I see that vandals (Eagle fan) have been busy on his Wiki page.

  10. As I reading Felser's article this morning I could not help but notice Jim Mora Jr.'s name. I have not heard a peep about him since Seattle fired him. Think he might make the jump to Buffalo with DeHaven?

I think my preference at this point is Bates or Sanders for DC--but Mora might make a lot of sense too.

  11. Tell that to the homers who sit there and compare a 70 year old first time GM to Bill Polian as a mid forties GM in 1985-86. RW got lucky that someone from within his organization (who was 25 years YOUNGER then than Nix is now) happened to be the best front office man of the past quarter century. That happens real frequently.

Luck only goes so far. If Buddy Nix is adept at being a GM, then why in sam hill wasn't he hired for the 15 or so GM positions since the turn of the decade?

Guess that's what I get for pointing out facts to the homers.

You don't think before you type do you? Or maybe you do.

The only facts you pointed out are age related. The rest is speculation. Bad speculation at that.

If your opinion is that a 70 year old cannot do the job of a 45 year old--you are either gravely misinformed or ignorant.

I know many men in their 70's who are still working, and making more money than they ever have in their lives. Men who know what they are doing and never have knee jerk reactions.

Personally after being in my current career for over 20 years-- I can tell you that I am much more than I was. I have made mistakes, like everyone has. The difference is now I have much more of a focused approach -- it is because I know what works and does not work. When I was younger I killed every task with hours -- now I kill them with a precise and streamlined approach. Experience.

Read Buddy's interview from Mobile--he does not sound like he is over his head to me.

Save your 'Homer' remarks for people who actually give a **** about your opinion.
