  1. I feel like we might lose this guy in the offseason.  I hope somehow we can get him back. I feel like he is just starting to bud and and I would hate to see another team reap the rewards.

I just feel like he is a major piece to this team this year and I hope we can get him on paper somehow in the future. He is very valuable imo. It's really something we have him as our 4th DEnd. With 6.5 sacks last year in a limited roll that's impressive. He looks alot more confident this year too.

  2. These little dump offs to Harty are basically running plays.

Last week short pass to flat for 6 yard gain.

Then PA Josh rolls to left and dumps it off to Harty for 6 more.

Last week that little screen agaisnt the Steelers for 6 yards.

It's different but kind of similar to what Jacksonville does with Evan Ingram. They dump it off to him in the flat alot for 6+ yards a pop.

I think between this and Kincaid it's the blueprint to taking the ball out of Josh's hands as a runner.

Just imagine when we start going downfield more and Harty starts turning these into 20+ yard gains.

For a guy who has given every benefit of the doubt to Brown, an 80% 40 yr old Leters might be better.  I seriously doubt any consideration, and he probably would never last a full season.

Yeah I'm a little down on Brown after Golden torched him yesterday but not out yet. Kind of sad yet fortunate thing for us (if we sign him) is Peter's, if in shape is a better option on day one. The freak that he is hes probably still better if not in shape. However on not giving up on Brown yet. He plays decent like 85% of the time and I will say this is a much better run blocker than Peter's ever was. Peters was never a mauling run blocker. Brown is a mauling run blocker.

  4. Josh and offense did not have all the tools at their disposal last night. Plus the interior line played fine. Dion gets better as season goes along every year. But protections weren't adjusted for last night.

Good or bad you can't put alot of stock into preseason. It's basically not real.

Penalties yes the are real, but sometimes they are a consequence of not being in rhythm and not being confident because there is no gameplan.

I'm not putting a lot of stock into what all I saw last night.

@oldmanfan thanks for the write up and report.

I will say Brown getting beat by Markus Golden last night is a problem and that is real and he needs to fix that immediately.

  5. Jason Peter's can still play. Last year  week (i want to say) 15 he came in 2nd half against the Texans at RT (which he hadn't played since '05 with us) and didn't miss a beat. He's got a freak knee bend still at 42. As long as he's in shape he would be an immediate swing/insurance on the line.

It was clear to me that these two teams approached the game much differently.  Steelers were running d-line stunts, multiple blitzes, and combination pass coverages.  Pretty much like you would game plan in the regular season.  Bills ran vanilla offense and simple defense.  The starters looked like they were just trying to avoid getting hurt (go back and watch Dane Jackson on the long touchdown run). The touchdown pass to Freiermuth was clearly a blown coverage. Dotson was lost in pass coverage on multiple occasions and generally looked bad.  I thought Shakir played poorly also.  On one of the interceptions, it appeared that Barkley was expecting an in cut and Shakir continued up the sideline into double coverage.  Shorter and Isabella clearly outplayed him.

There is a lot of truth here. I agree.

I don't see how they can switch at LB in mid-season.  Can't move Williams there.  The Bills aren't giving him MLB reps because he has too much to learn about how the defense works, and it's easier to work in behind Milano.   The only thing that MIGHT be possible with Williams is to move the playcalling responsibility to Milano, and then have either MIlano or Williams play the middle.

I think the middle linebackers will be Dodson, Bernard, and Klein.   That's what you got.

I said this in another post but this is kind of what I'm thinking. I think it could be Poyer or Hyde with the green dot. And saw it last night a little with Milano and Dotson kind of switching back and forth in the middle on some plays. I feel like William's and Milano are at most natural playmaking  linebackers and they're (coaches) hand will be forced at some point (an injury or a bad game, or William's keeps shining in practice). And I feel like they would just play as interchangeable LBs with Poyer or Hyde calling the plays.

I only watched highlights, and I've seen him play before.  He has modern NFL tools.   I was surprised to hear how awful he looked, and I'm curious what that is all about.   Has he not been doing the homework?   Is the offense too complicated to learn in six months?   Has he played only in simpler offenses?   Really troubling, because I was pleased when they signed him - a guy with tools, good enough to hang around the NFL, and a friend of Josh's.

I've watched some of his Carolina games. Imo hes better and more sure with a gameplan and knowing whose in front of him.

    My initial reactions:

    * Like what I saw for both starting OG. Feel like we can lock them as game one starters.

    * Running game looks promising

    * Dorian Williams stood out at LB more than anyone else. Headscratching why they’re not looking at the Milano/Williams combo more.

    * DL looks solid. Hopefully they stay healthy and can consistently get to the QB.

    * I thought Elam played solid

    * Harty, Shakir and Isabella all have different strengths in the slot. Hoping someone stands out as we need significant improvement.

The final roster will be interesting to see what they do.

I think at some point William's get on the field and one of the safeties is green dot. You saw it a little last night when Milano was lined up at MLB and Dotson was outside. I think at some point their hand is forced and Milano and William's are both on the field as interchangeable LBs and are our best natural playmaking LBs.

  10. Good write up Gunner.

I disagree about Spector. I think he played pretty good. AND Denmark I don't think he played very good.

From what I see Doyle, Gouraige had really good games.

Broeker had a good game although he got ran over on his first snap. But every snap after that was solid.

I feel like at some point this season there is a switch up at LB...
