Hey Mark. Can a slightly disabled guy and a lifelong Bills fan who thinks Fromm will be the starter by then, be allowed at the tailgate ? Also,  I think I bought you a dinner from the 2004 or 2005 draft in New York (at ESPN sports bar with my son, as I'm sure you DON'T remember !!!).I'm ready to have the favor returned. !!  JK, of course. I will try to be there and in Vegas. Unfortunately, I have no confidence in this clown running the state to say this can happen.

I think your exaggerating a bit, but there are times where Josh does something unbelievably idiotic and I really struggle to be convinced that it’s just a result of youth..... considering those same boneheaded plays he still does now he was doing at Wyoming. It might just be who he is.

I'VE ONLY BEEN ACCUSED OF EXAGGERATING  ONCE, (a day), IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. Agree with this post.

Second, I disagree with your opinion, but I really like your last sentence.  At the end of the day, all each of has is an opinion, and yours is that Allen doesn't have what it takes to be a successful NFL QB.   I think you're ignoring too much evidence to the contrary, but all that is is my opinion.   There's enough evidence to support your opinion, so I get that you can feel that way.

So I assume you also think that Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield don't have the goods, because they have performed demonstrably worse that Allen, and also that Kyler Murray is at least on your watch list, because his first season was not materially different from Allen's second.     I think that means you must be in the camp that says if a QB isn't in the top 10 by his second season, he doesn't have the goods.   So that would mean you wouldn't want Matt Stafford, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck or Drew Brees, all of whom took more than two years to emerge.   Josh Allen's 2019 passing stats were better than Tom Brady's for each of the first three years that Brady started.   He didn't have the goods, either?

I just want to apologize for the smart a$$ remarks I have made over something so insignificant as our differing opinions on the abilities and future success of Josh. I have done this on other topics as well, so sorry to anyone I got personal with. I have been a fan, and a fan in attendance since 1965 (5 years old) and just want a Super Bowl before I die. Disagreeing and disagreeing a lot in this case, should never get personal. It's easy to be a keyboard bully. I initially had been attacked for not being on board with Josh after his play this season, so I responded in kind. But that is really no excuse for being an a$$. Just Win1B4IDIE !

It's interesting you bring up Wentz.  While he unquestionably has put up better numbers than Josh so far at the same respective point in their careers, I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest he is a bigger risk than Josh right now because of the significant injury history.

I agree there is a lot of click-bait out there, but the "Josh Allen is/will be a bust" crowd was VERY vocal.

. I would take my chances with Wentz in a straight up deal for #17. You ?

Yup, He was pressured a lot. He was also one of the QBs who held the ball longest, as ranked from quickest to slowest, he was 29th, as per Next Gen Stats. It's not difficult to see that there is likely to be a bit of correlation there. Hold the ball longer and you make the job of the OL harder. In fairness it goes the other way too. This OL wasn't bad by any means. But equally they sure weren't great. What they were was professional. Slightly above average, possibly? Hopefully they'll be better this year with a year together under their belts to gel and perhaps someone beating someone else out by playing better.

We don't have any journeymen as starters. You're right, though that we also don't have any All-Pros. But I'd argue that Rex lucked into Incognito as he was available cheap. Credit to him for reaching out to Richie, but if Incognito hadn't lost it, he'd likely still be here. This regime loved having him till it became impracticable. Can you point out any Richie Incognitos out there for being picked up? I can't.

But Cam Newton didn't prove that running QBs don't last in this league. He proved that some running QBs don't last in this league. All you have to do is look at Russell Wilson to see that it's possible to last. But fair enough that it can be dangerous.

100 % agree. Throwing guys open is something he learns quickly and processing is the perfect word for what he can't do very well, yet.

First, it's funny how a thread about the receivers inevitably turns into a thread about Allen, but it's to be expected.

So what is it, exactly that you think is missing from Allen's game, the thing that will keep him forever from becoming a top 10 quarterback, the thing that Stafford and Ryan and Brees and Brady showed they had in their first few years starting?

Many fans fail to recognize that most successful NFL quarterbacks take multiple years, three, four, five years, to learn to compete at a high level in the NFL.   They fail to recognize that early success of Mitch Trubisky, Derek Carr, Carson Wentz, RGIII hasn't translated into consistent success.

Bottom line for me is that it's too early to tell about Allen.   He improved through his rookie season, and he improved through his second season, so there's no good reason to conclude that he's done improving.

Why would you assume that ??????? HORRIBLY WRONG, but if you want to use the straw man for your argument, more power to you.  Josh is one of the dumbest in game QB's I've seen. The bonehead plays are not because of youth, he just doesn't understand the position. Ummmm, also he is very, very, very inaccurate. Diggs may be asking for a trade by game 6 if Allen doesn't figure it out. If he could have sat behind a high football IQ QB for a couple years maybe he would understand the position better. But that won't help his accuracy. anything else you want to assume since you know me better than I know myself ?

  8. There is no excuse for bottom third QB play anymore. The weapons are sufficient. This is a top 5 team, talent wise, with a big deficit at QB. If he has the same piss poor passing stats and the teams suffers for it, I wonder how many "Kiss the Ring" guys will stay in denial. Should be interesting and I hope he succeeds. He has very rarely shown that he is more than "JAG". Maybe with these weapons at receiver the passing game will improve but the guys need a QB to throw them open, utilize their height and/or speed, and stop trying to be Superman. I hope I am wrong but I just don't see this guy as having the goods.

I think a good portion of the narrative on Josh is being driven by the lateral attempt in the playoff game. He’s perceived as reckless for better or worse until he changes people’s minds.

Josh does play like he's out in a school yard. Until he can lift his football I.Q. above a 12 year old on the playground this narrative, on him,  will stay and be justified.

Here we go! The Allen hate continues. Since the day he been drafted, 90% of you don't like him and still hold on to that. Smh

Im happy about the Fromm pick for multiple reasons.

First and foremost is the value.  This was a stellar pick in that round.

Second is youth that can be further developed on what is already a great baseline.

Third, if Allen faulters in anyway be it injury or performance, there is a hungry, capable guy in the pipeline...which is NEVER BAD.

Die hard Allen fans feel threatened by this pick, so of course to them he's some trashy 5th rounder who will never make it.  The funny thing is they couldn't be more wrong and are blinded by ignorance.

Fromm was a great pick and time will tell how great it could be.

The QB position is, by far, the weakest link on the team. TE is second. We need Fromm's football I.Q. with Josh's physical ability. Unfortunately, science has not come this far so we have a wild stallion at QB with the football I.Q. of a 12 year old starting,  and a great football mind that doesn't appear to have the arm talent (probably) to be a starter backing him up.

    • S Jovante Moffatt, Middle Tennessee
    • TE Joey Magnifico, Memphis State
    • RB Dre Brown, Illinois
    • RB Lavante Bellamy, Western Michigan
    • DE/OLB Oluwole Betiku, Illinois
    • LB David Woodward, Utah State
    • P Michael Turk, Arizona State
    • WR Jeff Thomas, Miami
    • LB Jordan Mack, Virginia

I have actually heard of these guys, unlike the ones the Bills have signed so far. And I watch a lot of college football.

  12. A guy who understands coverages and has an understanding of when to give up on a play, rather than always trying to be a hero, will be a nice change of pace. Now, can he get the ball to where he wants to before the coverage does is the obvious dilemma. His football IQ and Josh's talent and we have the best QB in the league.
