  1. Everyone with a pulse knows the Bills struggled against the 3-4 last year. Tonight, I'm interested to see how they fare against a team implementing the 3-4, as GB hired Dom Capers to replace the fired Bob Sanders.

It may be just a preseason game, but the starters should receive more snaps tonight. The other thing I'm interested to see is how the starting OT's can handle pass-rushing OLB's. Aaron Kampfman, a pretty good 4-3 DE is making the move to 3-4 OLB and can rush the passer. The front three of GB's 30 front consists of Cullen Jenkins, Ryan Pickett, and Johnny Jolly.

I don't think there's a greater question out there than how Turk Schonert adapts to what defenses show them. Green Bay won't show too many different looks, but the Bills haven't seen the 3-4 yet in the preseason.

Hope your thread does better than mine.

    here come the 3-4 defenses

  2. Wow, you're doing it again. Are you just bad at understanding what you read? Did you notice how I only argued about the San Diego game and didn't say word one about the other performances you mentioned? What does that tell you? I'll spell it out for you: I agree with your point with the exception of the Chargers game.

I'm pretty sure that horse is way beyond dead.

Got anything on the actual intent of the thread?

  3. I'm arguing nothing other than you're completely wrong about the San Diego game. Keep putting words in other people's mouths (or on their keyboards?) to suit your agenda, though.

OK, you win. Edward's decent game against the Chargers completely belies the notion that the Bills passing game in 2008 was impotent.

BTW, did you understand most of the words in the thread title and subtitle?

  4. Which has nothing to do with how Edwards played. It was a total team effort that day, which is why they won.

I watched every play, and enjoyed the game immensely.

It was, however, NOT an showcase for the Bills passing game. Edwards managed the game adequately, the defense was very good, and the Chargers turned the ball over.

The thread was about the shortcomings of the Bills passing game, especially lack of TDs.

Are you arguing that Edwards was like Dan Fouts in 2008?

    Dan Fouts and Air Coryell

  5. The Bills were hapless against the 3-4 defensive front seven. Most notably, they lost all 6 games in the Division. The Jets and Dolphins are 3-4 for sure. Belichick has been messing with the 4-3 during the pre-season, but I'm betting we'll mostly see 3-4 on 9/14.

Tonight will be more-or-less of a typical schlockfest against the Packers, but next week will be the traditional "meaningful" pre-season game against the tough Steelers.

Let's see what the Bills brain trust has come up with to deal with the most glaring of all their shortcomings. I hope their answer isn't passing out rosaries at the home games.

  6. Edwards was sloppy but effective enough to win against the pathetic Seahawks (1 TD pass, to Royal, the other was by Moorman to Denney), Jags (1 TD, to Hardly), Raiders (1 TD, to Parrish), Rams (1 TD, to Evans), Chargers (1 TD, to Evans), the Thundering Chiefs (2 TDs, to Reed and Schouman), and Broncos (zero TD). I guess you could say that he spread the ball around. Also, those are some horrific opponents.

Are the presence of Terrell Owens and the shiny, new look no-huddle offense really going to turn Edwards from a Ford Pinto to a Acura TL?

I'll believe it when I see it.

  7. I'm worried about TO's toe. Our offense is going to rely heavily on him, especially during the first part of the season- until guys like Hardy and Stevie J can get up to speed.

Does anyone else share my concern, or, am I being all Nervous Nancy for no reason.

    Yes, and here's why:

After calling out Donovan McNabb for being "soft", Owens cannot possibly malinger without looking the supreme hypocrite.

He knows, as does everybody else, that he needs to get on the same page as Edwards, yet it's been about two weeks. This is especially true since the Bills are implementing a somewhat radical change, namely the no-huddle. Edwards may actually be changing plays at the line.

  8. Something I have been thinking about for a while is if you analyze the Bills this year, they have some weaknesses, but no glaring holes. Most teams have massive problems at least on one side of the ball. If you think of our weaknesses, how bad are they really?...

Bottom line - we do have weaknesses as does every team. But quite honestly, I don't think we have the glaring holes that other teams have (even the Cheats* have an extremely weak secondary) and as bad as our weaknesses are, they aren't really that bad. Keep this team healthy and I expect some serious fireworks this year...

I guess one way of looking the holes is, are they so insignificant that the Bills go 19-0, or are they significant enough to result in another 7-9.

I think they may keep us 3rd in the Division (maybe last again).

  9. How ever will they get through the day knowing you don't like them? They will just have to console themselves with all their money, future financial security and the achievement of their life's dream, playing in the NFL.

Wrong. Money will be small consolation when they learn that I don't like them. It will gnaw at their psyches day and night...
