My read is that the new regime feels the defense was the major problem with this team, not QB. I completely agree with them. Is Fitz a lower tier QB? Absolutely. But at the end of the day, the O was putting up points. But because the D was allowing so many points, Fitz had to attempt game winning drives, and we all know how that turned out.
Do I love Fitz as or starter? Hell no. But our biggest problem was our D, so the regime is addressing that first. They will have to be active in FA, and draft well, but so far I like the (apparent) plan.
uHHH- Yawn-Uggh.....C'mon Fitz was having a difficult time throwing to receivers wearing his teams colors in the second half of the season. Often when he threw a 10 yard toss it would hit the ground or be above the receivers head on a given play. Almost everytime he went deep he would overthrow his receiver by about 5 yards. Have you been watching the same QB the past couple of years??
Of course he always has a nice training camp and even the preseason was pitiful. Everyone said the Bills were holding back and keeping the playbook scaled down until the opening game! C'mon you watched the same games, and when it's getting late in the game Ryan Fitzpatrick can get you close, but cannot close out a game with a WIN period! He is nothing but a quality backup for most teams that can win a game or two a season if the weather is good, he isn't hanging his head, and making some dumb throws. That is why he is willing to restructure his contract and wants to stay in Buffalo at all costs, because he knows their is no market for his services.
Could you envision New England, Denver, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, New Orleans, Seattle, Cincinatti, Detroit, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Washington, Minnesota, and several other teams having a QB Competition in training camp???? The answer is NO!!! The reason is they have legitimate starters and we don't! If Ryan Fitzpatrick was a legitimate starter he would not settle on negotiating to stay here to be in a competition to decide if he should hold a clipboard or not! If he had the cahoonas and confidence of a Jim Kelly he would threaten to take his services somewhere else and actually do it!!! Could you see Jim Kelly or Elway, or Marino, or Steve Young, or Rothlisberg sticking around for a QB competition? You know the answer to that..and I think it is ridiculous after having plenty of time watching Fitz to want to subject yourself to anymore of this silliness! C'mon Man!!!

Love the idea of trading back. I simulated a draftwhere we trade with St. Louis for their #16 and #22. Our RD3 and our #8 pick does the trick. They get their RB that they want, Giovani Bernard RBF North Carolina.

I love that trade down you proposed! We may be able to squeeze a little more mustard out of them and get a tad more, but I would be happy in that scenario, and your draft isn't too shabby neither! I think the Bills have a formidable amount of interest in Tyler Wilson, Nassib, and in a draft value scenario of risk vs potential reward maybe Matt Barkley. You can rule out Landry Jones, Geno Smith though. I'm mixed on M. Glennon for now and it's early to rule him out as well. I like what you've done overall with your draft and trade-down scenario quite a bit actually, but the only thing I'm have reservations about is drafting a WR in the first round unless he is so dominant like some of the WR's in the past several drafts. I really would like to sew up my Linebacking needs as we've created a hole by releasing N. Barnett and we already had inept play and holes in our linebacking corps prior to his release. M. T'eo is high risk/reward right now with all his controversies, but many say A. Olgatree is a good fit? What do you think???

I agree a LB 1st and QB in 2nd, but i really feel Marrone and his staff will make a world of difference just by themselves. Even if they didn't add any players I think they are a better team just because the new coaches are more competent. Of course that is just my opinion.
I tend to agree with you about Marrone from limited perspective. I am optimistic, but of course real NFL games will impress me more.. I like the sounds of the coaching staff and their intentions and how their basic philosophy of offense and defense sounds as well...I think Gailey limited the teams prospects with the play not to lose mentality. There was little if any fire to him..and even less under Jauron. Marrone seems to have some fire in him and for that alone I think they would've won 2 more games last year!!!

Are u out of your mind, we need more than a QB to build our team. Oakland just gave away a boat load of picks to Cincinnati and look where they are. Marrone owned West Virginia and Smith everytime. We need a linebacker and then a QB 2nd round.

The only quarterback I want in this draft is Geno Smith. He has a unique skill set that you could build an offense around especially if you are innovative and adapt schemes to players strengths. Add his dynamic skillset to CJ Spiller in the backfield and you could have a dangerous offense.
What people on here seem to underestimate as well are leadership characteristics in a QB. I believe Geno Smith possesses great leadership qualities. He has a great positive attitude. He can handle the media with class, dignity and confidence. He also has a slight "edge" to him that guys would follow.
I think all the other QBs will basically be like Tannehills, Ponders; just mediocre guys who will never be a franchise quarterback.
The problem is I feel strongly the Eagles will take him at #4. They have Vick to be the veteran to groom Smith for one year or maybe even just a half year. Chip Kelly's offense largely depends on a mobile quarterback and I think they will take Geno Smith as their QB of the future.
I either hope we get lucky and they don't take him or Buddy Nix has the sack to trade up in front of them.
I didn't see guys following him when they played Syracuse near season's end...Geno also does not have a good record in cold/bad weather games so why shouldn't he be off to Buffalo or Green Bay??? What is so unique about his skillset? What edge does he have in leadership as most of these QB's are good leaders generally as they have to be...Why do you feel others on here as you mentioned don't agree or see your point about Geno Smith? I would like to hear the specifics of your arguments rather than that he has an edge, good leadership, and can handle the media! Tim Tebow really handles the media better than almost anyone, and where has that got him?? Has he succeeded so far in the NFL in your opinion? Don't you think he has good leadership abilities as well? So maybe it's not only about those qualities? Do you think that maybe the big deal everyone made about Andrew Luck coming out last year was more about accuracy & technique? Those are real skillsets that I care about that are important. He was probably the biggest lock for success at QB that I've seen since the class of '83. Even Peyton versus Leaf didn't win a consensus lock! I really had a feeling about Colin Kapernick & Russel Wilson last year based on their history, technique and as long as they were placed in the right scheme...especially Wilson..I felt the research bore out that they would succeed and so far both are working out fairly nice aren't they? I just don't have that feeling about Geno Smith based on what I see. As a matter of fact he won't be a starter in 2013 just wait and see... I think that Nassib is a project that could develop into a solid QB, His best fit would be the Bills because of familiarity of the coaches, terminology, and the offensive scheme. I think Glennon & T. Wilson could possibly turn out to be decent QB's? I think it would be foolish in this draft to expend a top 10 pick for a QB though....and I study this stuff quite carefully..create my own war room, and know that we would have a team filled with Pro Bowlers if the Bills would've used my draft analysis year after year...ie: B. Orakapo, Von Miller, Hali Ngnata, Colin Kapernick, Rob Grankowski, & B. Cushing, etc...they would all be in a Bills uniform right now!!! Could you imagine? The only pick that I had slated as did the Bills when they drafted was Jairus Byrd as that was a dead ringer in my opinion, not too mention the blood line considering his Dad's NFL experiences! Don't get me wrong I do like C.J. Spiller a lot, but knowing the shelf life of a running back in the NFL and how far the Buffalo Bills had to go to become something decent, I would not have made the move to draft him. So it's premature, but I could eat crow on that pick...or maybe not? I know when you keep on cycling through star players at one position it's hard to gain ground when you keep filling the same holes ie: Travis Henry, Willis McGahee, Marshawn Lynch, Fred Jackson (as the primary back), now C.J. Spiller......I also did not like the pick of Leodis McKelvin (was it Troy State) if I remember...Just like that knucklehead QB we drafted and eventually released. I want talent that has competed at a high level...especially the S.E.C. if you ask me. As far as the draft there just might be another player that I like from C.J.'s alma mater, not too mention Alabama & Georgia...but I'll save that for another post!
Anyways, I got off subject a bit, but I don't have the time to go through all these threads so I go off on my tangent when I can so excuse me if you would...... So what are things the Bills MUST DO to become successful soon???
1. Draft the QB that the Bills have slated highest on their draft board. Trade up or down if possible to avoid a huge reach, but if they make up their mind on a QB they must get'er done! My personal feeling is that they will see who falls to their 2nd round pick as there could be several sliders including Matt Barkley, M. Glennon, and I wouldn't call R. Nassib a slide as evaluation would probably dictate the 3rd round, but he won't be there by then!
2. The Bills need to focus on defense on their 1st round pick unless they can trade down for multiple picks to a mid to late 1st round pick. I think the first round pick will be a LB. Possibly A. Olgatree or M. T'eo. I think T'eo could slide with all the recent contoroversy though so as of now A. Olgatree may be the pick? I know we need a WR, but you can get good WR's througout the draft.
3. I think keeping R. Fitzpatrick on the roster is a mistake. I like Ryan as far as being a good team player and a competitor, but I just don't think that he will ever improve enough to take a step forward. Please dump T. Thigphen as quickly as possible as that is a wasted roster spot! I would pick up one of the best free agent QB's available which isn't saying much!
4. Play to win, not to not to lose if that makes any sense? You win the coin toss...you get the ball and have confidence you are going to take the lead right off the bat. Play aggressive, go for it when you are inside the other team's 40 yard line. The point is play to win!!! Play to be in the lead instead of worrying about receiving the ball in the second half out of fear that you will be behind and have ground to make up. That's pathetic to me!!! Good Riddance Jauron II, I mean Gailey!
5. This coach needs to be the Captain of the Ship and should never do a Gailey and respond with "I don't know" "I don't have the answers" "Until I review the film I can't comment on that", and please always know what down it is!!!
I could go on with 45 other things etc...but the main thing is play aggressive always, play to score and win the game!!!
Last thing: I believe in the Analytics the Bills are adopting as that is generally how I approach each draft. I can study 3 or 4 draft guides, some video and interviews of prospective draftees, view a lot of opinions, coaching comments, and so-called expert review from kiper and all the different talent evaluators, and watch some of the college games, senior bowls, and the combine and barring injury or unknown factors make the correct decision 8 or 9 times out of 10! There will be times when you miss completely, and that is why I believe this is not the year to expend a first round pick on a QB ! At least not in the top 15...but it won't go that way as two QB's will go top 15 and probably within top 10!!!

Dick Jauron replies, That is really awful..The NFL people that stage these games are professionals and such nice people. I have an extra generator in my garage if that would help. I would even fly out and bring it down personally to try and help get the game back on. My players are good guys and if it's okay a few might tag along with me. How can I help get the energy flowing again?
Bill Bellicheat replies: If you can prolong this thing..lets just say add a few commercials to stretch the break out a little. Well uhh, I don't see where that would be a bad thing. Yeah, I know that Baltimore just got by us barely, but I think the advertising companies could use additional time for placing their ads, so I think this might help the NFL's bottom line! Not that I have anything against the Colts....oh yeah, I mean Ravens. Well...I have to go down to the field as I have some videos and pictures for San Francisco that may be of benefit to the game. We scouted the Ravens last week secretly so keep this between us.

I have no problem with the Bills showing us flashes of brilliance this year and then allowing the opposing team to win in the final minutes of play. I would gladly sacrifice one bad year of football to acquire Manziel. How much worse off would we be if we had the first pick vs. the 8th?? It will never happen, but a guy can dream.
Well it hasn't been a problem for well over a decade (Stinking), so I'd say the law of averages are we will win 8 or fewer games once again. I have hope for the new coaching staff and Russ Brandon holding the reigns, but until I see an organizational culture change I guess I'll remain somewhat pessimistic. Just look at how most of us felt going into 2012....David Lee working with fitzpatrick on his footwork like never before, and with a year of being the starter under his belt high aspirations, then we were all estatic about Mario WIlliam signing and thinking that we'd be seeing Bruce Smith like dominance arrive on defense, and then to compliment Mario, we felt like we were getting a double digit sack specialist in Mark Anderson. How wrong we were, and despie Mario getting double digit sacks, how little impact he really had...So despite the coaching changes and all the bells and whistles of change at OBD, I will try not to get sucked into the excitement of the upcoming season unless we totally restock the QB position after purging curly, larry, and moe. I also need to see us pickup or draft 2 WR's, same said for LB's, and at least one CB as well. We have other needs, but these are of the most dire nature! So if you ask me, we are more likely to draft slots #1-5 then we are #28-32 in the 2014 NFL Draft !!!

Well the Pro Football Hall of Fame selections are in and unfortunatelly the list does not include WR Andre Reed. The following former players, and coaches were selected: Bill Parcells, Warren Sapp, Chris Carter, Curly Culp, Larry Allen, Dave Robinson, and Jonathan Ogden.
I'm hoping to some extent having Chris Carter selected will open up the logjam at the WR position for future hall of fame hopefuls! Providing Andre Reed makes the final list next year it should boil down to him or Tim Brown .
I would love to see the statistical comparison between both of these fine receivers, and of course my personal opinion is very biased being a Bills fan despite whatever the stats say.

Here's a little game I like to call....."WTF was the front office thinking?". Since it is slow in the Bills news category and I am burned out with analysis of "what ifs" in the upcoming Draft 2013, I took a gander at the Bills' drafting history (as I am apt to do each year before our Draft) and doubt anyone can find a more depressing draft than 2000. Take a look and if you think you can beat it, please feel free.

I think only the Bills may have been able to top that draft in futility? I don't have time enough to investigate it, but I wonder what the Bills draft looked like the year they drafted Mike Williams? I still question several of the recent drafts of the Bills...I like C.J. Spiller a lot don't get me wrong, but I still would have preferred a different pick at the time...if the coaching was strong enough we wouldn't have had to lose McGhee and then M. Lynch and we could've put our focus elsewhere.
I know I was p.o.'d when we bypassed B. Orakapo (Wash. DE..), Hali Ngnata, and both Russel Wilson and Kaepernick who both would've been my picks. I easily outperformed our own war room over the past 7 years and most of my players are perennial pro bowlers that unfortunately represent other teams! There is only two players that both the Bills and I selected in our Bills drafts and that is Jairus Byrd and Marcell Dareus. Although I'm thinking maybe Von Miller may have been a better pick than Dareus?
The shame of it all is that I outperform the Bills Hierarchy after studying 3 or 4 draft guides, watch some combine highlights & the senior bowl among a few other college games, read some press clippings, look at some user mock drafts, and after collecting all my information and analyzing it I make my draft boards. That just shows that if you take out the emotion, personal preferences, likes, dislikes, and stick to the available information based on performance, level of competition, measurables, add some red flags for injuries, behavior, and research reputations and personal characteristics of the draft class and take into account leadership roles & responsibilities you can draft very, very well without ever leaving your house!!! The Bills problem like many other teams is that they have to justify having positions for everything under the sun, and justify a budget towards each endeavor. Seriously, drafting requires a lot of thought, common sense, strategically taking a chance based on the averages of the results being in your favor, and then rolling the dice based on those percentages. If I only had the opportunity I WOULD make the Bills a dynasty in 2-4 years, the reason the Bills don't ever find the road to success is they over think themselves, get cute, are stubborn to their convictions, even when it's self-defeating, and repeat the same process on the next coaching administration. I'm impressed that they are now passing the reigns to Russ Brandon and maybe the Modus Operandi has changed? I can always determine the prudence of a team by their draft. I was outraged when we let Gronkowski slip through our hands....I wanted to kick in my T.V. when we passed on Orakapo.
There is a method when you build through the draft, but without drafting well you will never exceed mediocrity! Every year New England out drafts the Bills despite picking in the last 4 picks most years, they have the insight to find a way to find a way back into the first round and select twice half the time rather it be by trade or whatever! The Bills on the other hand draft anywhere from 4-11 most years and still haven't gotten a whole lot better!
The Bills will continue to be grouped with teams like Detroit, and Cleveland until the culture and top executives change their ways. I'm hoping that this is what happened with Russ Brandon taking on full responsibility of the Bills near future!!! Go Bills...

Some of these posts are really getting pathetic! There's one poster that justs posts away, even if it means replying to his own posts! Then you got this wild fantasy about Randy Moss....In his day Randy Moss was an exceptional WR, but really? Sounds like the making of another cereal box to me: Flutie Flakes, T.O. Box of whatever, and now possibly Moss's Marshmallow flakes! Whatever...
This whole segment opened up with someone suggesting we should get Campbell (I take it as Jason Campbell)...as a stop gap at QB? Come on seriously?? and because Manuel was the only QB who had a decent (not great) day at the Senior Bowl we're suppose to pursue him? Really?
This is why I try not to look at these posts too much, nor reply. You got some crazy ideas out there and I think maybe the experts should figure it out if capable. One of these posters wants a tackle before anything else, another wants a defensive lineman? Really?
Here is what I know... We need a new face at starting QB! Regardless of where he comes from we need to draft a potential franchise QB within the first 3 rounds. We need a WR (or two) who has a combination of size and speed. We are in desperate need of linebackers and will not totally solve this problem in the draft! We need to add a capable CB (again 2 would be nice).
We probably still have as many holes as the piece of swiss cheese that is in my sandwich, but if you get Curly, Larry, and Moe (QB's) out of here, and Get the best free agent available, draft T.Wilson or Mike Glennon, and maybe take a flyer on Nassib in the 3rd (if he's there) I'd like our future much better than I do now! I know some of you want to hang onto Fitz, but I'm sorry he's gotta go!
In the 2nd or 3rd grab a WR, 4TH get a CB, 5TH a LB.....Yeah, the round can vary, but you get the idea....We drafted heavy on defense last year, and this year I think we need to at least draft early and often on offense! Well it's late, I said what needed to be said, and wish all a good night!

Whether we get him or not, I don't care where. If our coach passes or takes him, he would know better than anyone else what he's capable of and I'll have faith in that decision.
If we take him at 8 and he pans out, no one will remember or care where we took him. If he's a bust, then what else is new?
Rarely is there certainty drafting a QB (P.Manning, A. Luck the exception..), but I like the argument of going for him and taking a chance on Nassib by drafting him. I think without question a team would love to move up to our #8 slot to pickup a slider or a desired player while we should have no problem moving down as far as #19 and feeling confident that we could draft Nassib at that point. Might as well pick up an extra draft pick or two while getting a player you really want. I can't see the Bills moving back into the first round and sacrificing a third or fourth round pick in combination with their 2nd rounder to draft any QB in this year's crop! The goal should be to get Nassib and pickup an extra 2nd or 3rd rounder so we can snag a WR with the extra pick....picking two QB's in the draft isn't out of the question and having an extra pick or two could provide that luxury!! Go Bills...

What round was Tom Brady selected in? As far as Rb's how about Thurmon Thomas? There are so many examples of QB's and players at other positions that were 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounders and beyond that became superstars!!! So I don't see why this would blow your mind even though I am not the one that said it. There are many, many 1st round QB's that flopped too in the NFL, So I don't see an argument that drafting a QB in the First Round is indicative that a QB will be successful..hmm hmmm (j.p. lossman) I'm laughing at that one! Need more examples?? Ryan Leaf.... etc..etc..etc...etc.. What I really don't care for on here is when posters believes they are knowledgeable about football because they have a great volume of posts, yet you read there posts and they really don't add up to a hill of beans. Sorry Cape Cruisaders, Just want to respectfully call things as I see them......Don't anyone out there take that personal unless you feel that it applies to you.

Quite honestly I like the subject matter, but I thought you would have something more to offer in your response. I'm not that impressed with either of these two QB's. I watched a pathetic looking Geno Smith in his playground get outplayed by Syracuse's Nassib. It looked as if Geno Smith could ever acclimate to the cold, snow, and slippery field conditions that the game presented. I don't know his history in cold weather games, but I would imagine that it would be significant being in W.V. Anyways, one game don't make a player, but he's not on my list at least, not that that matters to buddy Nix.
Secondly, Matt Barkley was terrible all year and did not impress me at all. I don't want a QB who's performance skidded and slid all year just like his draft status will. I think this QB isn't the answer neither!
I would take a look at Arkansas QB...Can't remember his name at 3 a.m. and also Mike Glendining or something like that. Anyways, those guys are intriguing and may come in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. I think that Syracuse's Nassib is a natural fit in the same type of offense that he is already accustomed to if he can be had in the 2nd or 3rd round. Familiarity may reduce the growing pains, but of course the speed of the game may limit his productivity if he plays as a rookie. I think the Bills will take a flyer on him at some point in the draft and select him. I think that the Bills will end up parting ways with all the QB's on their depth chart including Brad Smith, Fitzy, Tavaris Jackson, and Thigphen. I think drafting two QB's considering this crop is smart, but they better draft a WR within the first 3 rounds as well! They need to draft lb's, and cb's as well...and in this new offense I beleive the FB becomes a factor again, and that may be something to consider? There are still some holes to fill, but not at RB (Please!!!) I wouldn't expend picks on the DL this year, and no more than one OL if you have to? That's my take....not really player specific, but instead some parameters that I could live with.....

I hope this doesn't turn into the more things change, the more they stay the same seeing that the clown car of the Jets had the same record that our beloved Bills had this year!!!

I think one of the more interesting developments of this off-season is going to be what the new staff sees in players currently on the roster, especially those headed for free agency. Placing value on some of these guys will be easy- Byrd, Levitre, for example.
I think McKelvin represents one of the bigger challenges for the front office and Marrone because the talent is obviously there. He can run with anyone, but his ball skills are horrible and his ability to learn and adapt is really in question. What do you guys think? Will the team hold onto him, hoping he can really be molded into a great #2 CB now that some coaches of good pedigree are here to help? Will they balk at anything but nickel-corner money with a little premium paid for his return skills? I think we've all presumed he's gone after a decent season given the market and the fact that be hasn't really delivered on the promise of his draft position. Maybe Ron Brooks is ready. But I wonder if Pettine and O'Neil might have other ideas...

I think when the question of rather you should keep a player sounds like a reasonable question based on their performance, then I think the you have already answered the question based on all the elements that determine a player's worth. ie: How much does Leodis's contract pay him per year on avg? Has he lived up to the expectations of the contract? For example, if you leased a vehicle ie: Toyota Highlander, and that lease was for $449./month, but you loved the vehicle, it drove smooth, you just did general maintenance and there were no major repairs, and you had the opportunity to add another year on the lease..You would probably give it serious consideration, but if the Toyota was $699./mo. was recalled due to faulty brakes, has been in the shop for repairs multiple times, never quite seemed to have the hp to get up the hills, and for some reason just always seemed to underachieve except in one area where it outperformed the competition and did get the best gas mileage in it's class. (Just like McKelvin has performed excellent on special teams with the occasional fumble 2 yrs ago.) I think you still would look at the overall assessment and look at another option when considering analytics, and cost versus value! This is where I think you conclude that if there is a better option out there, you end your lease and find something else to lease, or in Mckelvin's scenario you release him or trade if possible if there is a someone else you can sign or trade for first. I think it matters too how long he has left on his contract, the risks incurred with a future replacement player (as there are always risks), the age of the players involved, and how it affects the salary cap. This is why General Managers make a good wage, as these are vital decisions that not only affect the potential for releasing, trading, and signing one player, but it also governs the ability to keep your player budget manageable and either increases or decreases your odds of keeping or signing other players. Each move that a team makes is likely to cause a chain reaction of events similar to the domino theory. All moves need to be shrewdly attended to and well thought out. I think in Leodis McKelvin's case, depending on his contract terms..I would give him one more year if it is determined that the coaching was subpar in some way. This means you have to analyze the entire positional performance as well as McKelvin's personal performance and see if there is a team correlation at the position when considering the underachievement of McKelvin. Not just coaching though, but also the defensive philosophy and strategy on game day as well, because there may be a correlation. I don't think this question is a question for the general fan, but I wanted to take 10 minutes out of my busy day to help provide a little insight at all the ramifications that comes with making internal decisions. It is a process, and each player personnel decision should be considered as carefully as the work of a skilled surgeon.

Fantastic hire. Great coach, angry Rex, insight into both the Jets and Patriots offense (who he would have to game plan against as Jets DC).
The Jets Defense didn't look that impressive when we played them last, and there were several games they looked pretty lethargic to me the past year. If that's because it was the last game or whatever, that doesn't say much for their defense's respect for their former DC does it? They laid down and died didn't they? A motivating coach wouldn't allow that to happen, nor would the DC if he's worth his salt! I just can't recall seeing players underachieving or laying down on Bill Parcells, Bill Cowher, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Belicheck or any of the other "relevant" coaches or coordinators of past or present, so I can't say despite his reputation that Coach Pettine is a sure thing!!! (I just hope and pray that all these hires go well..

I can't believe I'm getting excited about the Bills again. I hate myself! All they've done is take an early lead in the off-season hirings, and I'm already imagining an awesome team battling with the Pats for the AFC East.
Oh my goodness! It's great to be excited, but I think it's a bit premature considering they don't play a game that counts for another 8 months, haven't completed their coaching staff, haven't resigned Jairus Byrd and Andy Levitre yet, have serious flaws at QB, linebacker, cornerback, and the wide receiver positons, and haven't signed any free agents or drafted yet, nor found a viable replacement for Fitzpatrick. If the Bills keep Fitzpatrick as a starter I think their ceiling is about 8-8, but most likely 6 or 7 wins. In a year with many changes including a change of culture at One Bills Drive I think it's best to make sweeping changes now so the team can move forward in unison. That includes unloading baggage ie: Fitz, Thigpen, & the irrevelant Tavaris Jackson or whatever his name is in which our genius Buddy gave up a 4th round draft pick for despite the QB's inability to learn the playbook! Anyways, I'm happy we moved on from Gailey, but we have a very flawed roster and have a long way to go until we're playoff bound! I also have serious reservations about Buddy's ability to draft appropriately, which may not be consistent with what others feel? All I know is when we had the opportunity to take Russel Wilson in my little Draft War Room..I was ready to pounce and select him, the same goes with Colin Kaepernick as he was a no brainer in my mind, as well as Bryan Orakapo a few years back, that had to p-mee off more than any other non-pick when it occurred..when he was available I was excited, then mad as heck when they bypassed him! There are so many other examples..and even though I now like Spiller a lot I wouldn't have picked him quite honestly because there were higher needs and I still believe it wasn't the right pick as rb's shelf life is short and by the time the Bills (may) become relevant in the league again, he may very well be on the downside or out of the NFL. If Buddy would've taken a QB instead and built around him it is more likely by now we would've already been somewhat relative, and instead of rebuilding Chan Gailey might have been talking about how we just missed the playoffs at 9-7 with high expectations going into next year! So, in a league of mediocrity including its coaches I just don't understand the excitement at this juncture, but am happy that someone else can feel that way after a 6-10 season with deep positional concerns!

Makes a lot of sense!!! Rarely do I agree with someone.....Take the best veteran free-agent available whomever that would be. I really am not that crazy about Alex Smith, but I'd rather have him and a 2nd and 5th round QB from the draft than the 3 stooges we now have!If you have been following the quarterbacks in this draft class you will notice a lot of stinkers. Currently Landry Jones is stinking up the Cotton Bowl. Pass on this one.
Geno Smith sucked the big one in the snow New Era Pinstripe bowl. Pass.
Mike Glennon 3 picks in a loss in the Music City Bowl. Pass.
Barkley out with an injury, a Sanchez clone. Pass.
There is only 3 I would even consider drafting and none in the first round.Tyler Bray, Tyler Wilson and Ryan Nassib. The Bills should take the Best Available player with the 8th pick in the draft. In the second round take one of the 3 QB's.

Honestly, Chan would make a great OC. Especially if he's got someone with immense skill like Newton.
I wish Chan Gailey well, but "honestly" why would a coach/coordinator who punts at the opposing team's 35 yard line twice in the same season when down in the game make a good "Offensive" Coordinator?? Why would someone who loses track of down & distance who is the head coach be great in any capacity if he is actively engaged in a football game? Why would a Coach or OC who had an aggressive offensive philosophy surrender the opportunity to receive the ball after winning the coin flip in almost every contest that the Bills participated in? That's not aggressive, Chan's not aggressive, he is just as far from motivating as Dick Jauron was! Did we watch the same games, the same coach? I think Chan was always marginal, and with the Bills I think he really was lousy and may have been lost in the past. Nothing like a Coach who replies "I don't know" so many times repeatedly when asked by the media what the problems and solutions are? He never did find out neither! That is why he is gone! Chan was not, and did not have any answers, and unfortunately if Chan goes to Carolina he will be in the NFC as I woiuld love for the Bills to have to face an AFC East team twice a year who is coached in any capacity by Chan Gailey. That's my take, and I know that I'm closer than the truth than what your interpretation of Chan Gailey is. But, I hope you get your wish and I like Carolina, so best of luck despite my opinion.

After much consideration I think the Bills should do everything possible to get Chip Kelly here as our head coach! I'd settle for him even as our Offensive Coordinator although I don't think he would go that route! If we really are going to be a innovative team, analytics, and going after supreme talent in all phases of the operation then I think pursuing this guy, this coach is a gamble worth taking!!!!
Chip Kelly is more of a gamble as an NFL Coach because he hasn't performed in that capacity, but he is a proven college coach that is innovative and runs the most up to date offense similar to the Seattle Seahawks, but probably even at a faster pace!
Sure, there are safer bets based on consistency, tried and true mediocrity ie: Ken Whisenhunt, and Lovie Smith, but there are deficiencies in both coaches approach to the game. Lovie Smith is very strong on the defensive front, but offense is not his strong suit. Still, despite his shortcomings he coached them to 10 wins this year is more wins than Buffalo has seen in 1.5 decades!!! I don't care much for Whisenhunt and he makes some really questionable decisions, but I give him credit for getting Arizona to the Superbowl once when nobody else could even get them to the playoffs. Still I don't want to go this route!!!! I can see Whisenhunt getting the nod though...Alex Smith being our new QB, Little dink & dunk 5 yard passes, boring, playing not to lose passive football...No thanks!!!

Overall for me the best choice is Bruce Arians. I'm not going to pretend that I can give all the necessary supporting reasons why but here is my justification: . He is current/relevant and took a team who he stepped in for mid-stream and led them to an outstanding record on the heels of a miserable season. Of course Andrew Luck was a big part of the equation, but still with Luck being a rookie their was probably a heavy dependence on sound leadership & judgement that Bruce Arians was able to provide for the rookie. Bruce Arians performed under great pressure as the story about him filling in for an ailing coach was a national story that was closely watched. The NFL is always evolving and even some of the coaches who have been out of the NFL have become dinosaurs in a sense in the NFL landscape. I really like Bill Cowher as a coach and I respect him, but I am not convinced that his strengths would convey into the pass oriented NFL of today. Even though Jon Gruden has had some success in the NFL He usually developed only marginal talent at the QB position despite being considered an expert at evaluating quarterbacks. Jon Gruden actually projected great things for Tim Tebow and it appears that he missed the boat on that one. I would welcome Gruden and Cowher for an ever ailing Buffalo Bills team with one eye open that these two coaches can still perform up to their previous standards. I also like Andy Reid, but I am not convinced that he is not burned out and on the decline? I think that Wade Phillips is a better coordinator than Head Coach, Ken Whisenhut makes some rather bad judgement calls and I just don't care for him for the Bills. I don't know enough about Chip Kelly to give an opinion, but he sounds like a potential option according to others. Lovie Smith would make a helluva defensive coordinator for the Bills, but I'm not interested in him as a head coach. Well there are plenty of other options, and I hope the Bills don't stay close to people they know and hire Perry Fewell as I don't think that he's ready to be a head coach, and he had a bad year as a defensive coordinator. Norv Turner never impressed me that much and I hope we stay clear...I don't know that Syracuse's coach is quite ready for the position of NFL head coach, but maybe as an offensive coordinator? Anyway, this is my take, it may be right or wrong, but for me I'd go with Bruce Arians if the possibility exists
