  1. =============================================================================================

Come on, do you really believe anything Buddy says or does is going to influence another GM's pick? The other GMs are just as smart as, or smarter than Buddy. They don't care what Buffalo does. They have the players on their boards rated and they don't even pay attention to what Buffalo will do. If they are picking ahead of Buffalo they have players targeted and will draft accordingly. There is no "Texas Hold Em" involved. If I am picking ahead of a team I wouldn't even care what they are doing, I get to go first and take the player I want.

The only ones the GMs are bluffing is the fans that are trying to speculate which team is going to draft whom. They can fool the draftniks and fans but they can't fool the other team's GMs and scouts.

May help in giving leverage to team trading down above them to get bit more for pick, or get someone a bit more nervous and push them over edge to actually make the trade, if they were already thinking hard about it anyway.

  2. Russell Wilson: Wisconsin QB. Is only 5-11 so draft stock is hurt by that, but think he can play at NFL level, and will be a lower pick. Probably take him a few years, but think will be a good qb in the league after spending a few years developing, and if goes to right team becomes a legit starting caliber QB.

  3. Wow. I really can't believe there are so many people that think Barron is viable at 10!!!! Considering our current safeties and Barron's lack of coverage ability, I just don't get it. He hits hard and is a sure tackler but he's not very fast. While I think he'll be a pretty good safety, he's not Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu. Considering we have Wilson, Byrd, search and Scott, I can't understand the need for taking a SS #10. Especially when we have donald jones and Kirk Morrison in the starting lineup. If we take Barron, it'll sting

I agree. Would be extremely surprised if he is taken before 14, cause his style fits what dalas and phily as SS to do, so would be great for them.

Im not sure who is going to be there at 10, is small chance Kalil would be there and would love that, of ones that will likely be available i would love Keuchly or Floyd, but think they will wait on wr.

Chris Brown was on WGR550 today and stated the Bills feel Barron is a once in a generation safety, if they feel this way I am happy with the pick. George Wilson is a very good Strong Safety, if the Bills feel they can upgrade the position to an elite level I trust Nix to do so. Darren Moody the Bills SEC Scout said Barron can also play linebacker in the dime position thereby allowing Wilson and Barron to be on the field at the same time.

Thank God the wait is almost over!!

So we are basically using top 10 draft choice to get a replacement for Scott then?

  4. Situational Pass Rusher...

On 3rd down we take Keuchly out and bring in Merriman.

3rd down keuchly stays in, why would you replace a coverage position with a passrusher. Would take out a DE or move a DE inside and put him there, unless planning on playing old bears 46 defense or a 5-2 defense on passing downs.

I have explained this in another thread. There are some here that seem to think he will only play DE because of some comments made here and there. Here is the reality though. If, and that really is a big if, Merriman does come in 100% for the first time in a long time this year like he says (and man I hope he does), this guy is still young and a pro bowl talent. You do not make a pro bowl player a 20 snap rotational guy. Defensive coordinators find a way to get your talent on the field. This isnt the NBA with a 6th man, in the NFL you play your best players the majority of the plays unless they are a specialist only.

Merriman has the skill set (again, assuming he is and stays healthy) to handle a 4-3 OLB...he is agile, great pass rusher, a good run stopper, a smart player, and a leader out on that field. He can be effective rushing the passer and in stopping the run. Mario Wililams and Anderson were brought in to start at DE. They already said Anderson was not brought in to just be a situational pass rusher, he was brought in to start as they believe him to be an every down player. Sure, I can see Merriman easily filling in on plays at DE, but to get all 3 on the field, Merriman will be the one that drops back into an OLB spot in our 4-3 and by years end he will easily split time with DE rotation and OLB.

People wanting to make all these declarations right now on where he is going to play are very premature as no one will truly know until we finish our draft and get to camp. Mark my words though, if Merriman is healthy he will be too good to give just 20 snaps too and Wanny will create ways to have all 3 on the field at the same time which means one of them (Merriman) will be seeing a decent number of snaps at OLB. Comments being made by Wanny are mostly because they do not know where Merriman is at yet until they get him on the field. Also keep in mind, Wanny has had very little experience with Merriman, so he needs a full camp of running the D and moving guys around to truly see what he can create with this roster.

All I know, is that we can have a very scary front 7. And there is no one that will convince me that a healthy Merriman would not be a better choice at OLB than the other guys on our roster. Healthy he is easily without question currently the best OLB on our roster with Mario, Dareus, Kyle, and Mark laying the pain up front.

Dont disagree with the logic of your argument excecpt for the fact he has been injured so much last several years. Is something to be said for limiting his snaps so hes still there at end of year.

  5. I'll be very upset if the Bills take Gilmore/Kirkpatrick in favor of Kuechly or Floyd. SLB and number two WR are just as important for the Bills to address, so why take the lesser talent? The Kuechly and Floyd draft stocks are much more valuable than the Gilmore of Kirkpatrick stocks in my opinion just based on their production in college and their preparedness for the pros.

Definately with you there, no way clairborn drops, who would be only cb think is better talent that Keuchly or Floyd IMO.

I think there's good LB depth throughout the draft but that it's underwhelming at the top.

    JMO.

Its so rare for ILB to be so good at coverage along with being tackling machine. He isnt perfect prospect cause doesnt pass rush, and isnt greatest at taking on a blockers, but is good at weaving through them, has tremendous range and is a sure tackler. He needs a team with good DT's in front of him to be at his best, and Bills have that. Think he is a great fit for Bills, cause his strengths meet bills need and IMO is the best MLB to come out of college since Urlacher for all around play.

  6. And yet, again, both are picking in the top 10....

So if colts dont make playoffs and have high pick guess means luck was a flop too. They must have really flopped with Manning too, cause they didnt win at all with him till they drafted a line infront of him, and another reciever for him.

Fact that they need a rt and rg bad has something to do with that. Need 5 good players on a line. We have 2 holes on line, and filling lt, allows rt to be filled as well. Course if no hurry to get good, can continue drafting lower and waiting for them to develope, personally not excited about waiting several more years.

  7. Really hate this pick. Is basically a slightly better version of Scott that hits allot harder IMO. Would seriously hate it if they picked him. With his playing style doubt he lasts much more than 4 years in NFL before spends more time on IR than feild, and at 10 he better be another Polamalu and I just dont see that kind of talent there.

Well this really wouldnt surprise me, Buddy seems to care more about shocking people than improving team with first round picks of his.

  8. If this were to happen as Buddy Nix stated it would be a "no brainer"

    http://nflfilms.nfl.com/2012/04/23/cosell-talks-mock-draft/

IMHO it would be Blackmon and I have been beating the drum for franchise LT for ages, much like my friend Bill in NYC

    Who would You draft???

Oh and Greg Cosell works for NFL films and is well respected in the league

Kalil, love blackmon, but is only legit LT in the draft, are other receivers.

  9. Im hoping we dont personally. think we have more pressing holes, and think he wasnt consistant enough in college, had some bad games then good ones. Not saying dont think will be good, but consistancy is extremely important for a CB, and not sure if hes an upgrade or more of the same for us, just younger.

  10. Think need to clarify what mean by start. Is he starting caliber period, or at left tackle. Think he is very well suited to be a long term starter at right tackle, but think of him more of a swing tackle, in that can play on left side in a pinch, but isnt his best position and probably dont want him starting there long term.

I would say no, if mean just LT, and yes if RT is included in this discussion. I didnt answer cause not sure which mean.

  11. Mallet is the best pure passer from last years draft, and I have heard some scouts talking the last couple of days since NE talked of making Mallet available that he would be the best pure passer even in this draft. Doesn't mean everyone would say that or that they would choose him over Luck (they wouldnt), but it does speak volumes about his throwing ability and potential as a pocket passer. If it was not for the off field questions, he was a certain top first round pick in either last years or this years draft...that to me is worth more than a 3rd round pick...getting top QB talent and a very rare skill set of throwing ability for a 3rd round pick. Especially for a team who has yet to have a real franchise QB since Kelly retired.

His skill set resembles a style like a Brady, Manning, Montana, etc (no, I am not comparing him to them as he has not even started his career yet, just saying the QB style of play is the same style as those guys...pure pocket passing). Brady, Manning, Montana, etc are all slow as molasses and slower than Mallet, so the common comments people say of him being a statue that one so frequently sees on here is silly. You do not have to be fast to play QB and to play it well as I just named 3 of the 5 best QB's of all time and they are all very nonathletic and slow as dirt (and two of them dominate in the modern NFL right now).

Bottom line, 4 years from now I think when we look back at that draft, passing on him in round 3 was a mistake given the value it presented.

Sounds like the argument about why Leaf is better than Manning for some reason.

  12. 1 - Luke Kuechly LB

    2 - Bobby Massie OT

    3 - Marvin Jones WR

Thinking Kalil, Justin Blackmon and Claiborne will all be gone at one, and they will continue to work on front 7. We have makings of very good defense with the line improvements made, adding a potential all pro LB to the mix could take them over the top. Could see him challenging Ray Lewis type impact behind line like this not too far into his career.

Think they will Take Massie if there over Adams given choise, and thier desperate need for LT means may have to trade up few spots to get either.

Tough to guess whose going to be there so far down, but thinking Jones may still be there, and has potential to grow into a top wr. Also could see them taking Josh Robinson CB here if is available.

Does anyone want players that we actually need? I would take Kuechly or Floyd or maybe Reiff. Sorry but no CB in round 1.

While Claiborne looks like could be a great one, have to agree with you that would rather not see a CB taken this high. We took a CB with a high 2nd rounder last year, so think we wait till 3rd or 4th to pick a corner myself.

  13. It is a trend because the cost a crap load of cash in FA and we have let our players leave (Winfield, Clements, Greer). Buddy likes to resign our players. I know others on here hate how much top CBs cost, but they can be worth it and if they aren't a bust are a game changing position.

Questions: McKelvin is solid? Can McGee stay healthy?

Answers: nope, also in the last year of his contract & he hasn't in a long time.

Buddy seems to be worried about it:

"Bills GM Buddy Nix at the team’s draft luncheon Wednesday outlined the problems the secondary ran into the past few years when injuries struck the unit.

“We can’t get caught… I don’t want to get us in a position that we were in last year and the year before where if we get one hurt that it’s a big problem,” he said. ”You lose the ability to compete, so we’re going to try to fix that. We do need some depth in some places in the secondary and you’d always like to have a shut down corner that you can get and put over there to start with and not worry about that side. We will try to add some secondary guys.”

Didnt say we shouldnt draft another corner, we do every year, but dont think should do in first round. We just invested a high 2nd rounder on a cb last year, and we have huge needs for LT, 2nd WR, and OLB that need to be addressed as well. With the improved passrush, our secondarys job should get easier, since opposing QB's shouldnt be able to sit back and pick them apart at thier leasure anymore. If point to injuries as reason, then that makes the other positions that much more needy than CB, cuase we have allot less depth in other areas as well. Have 3 capable of starting, and 2nd rounder who finally gets a full offseason back.

  14. Dang so many people who think pot is nothing. Well the neighbors down the street from me dont think that, since thier daughter was killed by pot dealing gang, and the neighborhood a block from me doesnt, with all thier houses basically worthless cause of a house in the neighborhood being converted into a pot growing place and ruining the property values. It's a multibillion dollar illegal business funding murderers and gangs all over the US. Saying its like J-Walking is just an insult to the people who have been affected by it.

  15. I would almost always want a safety covering a tight end than a linebacker… especially if they are tall safeties like Wilson and Scott.

Sometimes when Gronk and Fernandez split out, they're covered by cornerbacks.

I think a worst-case scenario is one where they are being covered by any linebacker.

Then either you playing ton of man to man and taking chance of being burned, and being predictable on defense, or playing a saftey at lb, and reducing your ability to stop run. I prefer having atleast 2 LB's that can play 3 downs, so can mix up the defense, and play zone coverages with efectiveness.

Yes having Safety with ability to cover TE for known passing downs is nice as well, not all passing is done on passing downs Iits allot easier for offense to see a safety comming in know what kind of defense your playing, and know when the LB is in that cant cover as well. Makes it allot easier for a Coach to make the calls when knows the defense by the personel on the field.

I would love to see this pick, but are several others that would love as well.

  16. There will be the educated fans that Understand McGee is approaching retirement and appears to have dropped off, Florence is approaching retirement, McKelvin appears to be incapable of learning how to turn his head and identify the ball while covering, and Aaron Williams is an unknown but looks like he cold be 1 solid starter.

Meaning that there is a big need and CB that Gilmore or Kirkpatrick would meet.

the Uneducated will be screaming "NOT ANOTHER DB!!! I THOUGHT WE GOT RID OF JOURON!"

Well count me in that crowd. Not because we dont need to get some younger cb's, but becuase means we are following same trends over and over. While yes they are getting older, they still should have 2 years left before start to decline. We have too many needs at other positions for starters, to draft starters for an already solid area IMO. Yes take a CB in top 4 rounds, but not with top pick please.

Not to mention we drafted one with 2nd pick last year, we giving up on him already?

  17. I entirely agree and the point you raise is exactly correct; we won't get as much as trading down, which is why I don't think we will.

Just using the past as an example and yes I know that isn't a golden indicator - things are different this year. If we won't get as much this year, I don't know if Buddy would bother trading down or not. He is on record saying that he doesn't like to get fancy with value, meaning that if you like the guy what is the difference between 10 and 15? You take him and don't try to get too fancy because somebody else might swoop in and steal him from you...

For us to trade, Buddy is going to want a good deal...I just don't see a team giving us enough to move down...

The one thing you do get any year trading down is a cheaper rookie contract :) If want a player that will still be there, can get same player and save several million in the process.

It was flipped around to begin with...

"While trading back seems like a very sensible option, especially knowing the difference in player value is seen as marginal, that’s exactly why teams down at 18, 19 or 20 would be unwilling to move up. So finding a trade partner could prove difficult knowing teams at the bottom of the mid-first round range would not want to give up anything significant to get a player that isn’t seen as a whole lot better than what they can get where they currently sit."

You trade down and you can lose out on the player we want. That really isn't Buddy's MO...he would rather stand pat at 10 and take the player we want then trade down to lets say 15 and have a chance to miss out on the guy...he has said that repeatedly...

In his pre-draft news conference he said that yeah you could move back, but at pick 10 the 9 best players you had on your board will be gone and at number 20 the first 19 on your board may be gone.

Buddy has also gone on record that he says the reports that come out about the Bills are bogus...

It is very well that we did put out that we are looking to trade back to prevent other teams possibly looking at WR (the Jets) from moving ahead of us to take Floyd or Blackmon...

Just because NFL.com is reporting it doesn't mean it is true. If Buddy trades back, he is going to look for something meaningful in return. Most likely the team willing to trade up will give you a later pick in round 2, I don't see that alone being good enough value to jump down 5-10 spots to grab a second tier LT when they could grab one of the top CBs or WRs or LB...

Teams won't break the bank to make a trade up when the player difference is marginal...a mid to low second rounder wont be good enough for Buddy especially if Floyd is there - there are no other first round WRs in this draft. Same goes for CB if Kirkpatrick or Gilmore is gone and one remains...the CB talent drops off...

Everyone thinks it is so easy to trade back, but it isn't. This year will prove to be even more difficult unless you are in the top 7 or 8...

Also this was from Chris brown today:

"I asked Buddy whether they would pursue the option of trading down or let teams come to them. He told me there has been dialogue with other teams, but did not divulge whether the Bills were the ones doing the calling. If Miami passes on Ryan Tannehill at 8, then Buffalo’s pick becomes a lot more attractive to teams with a quarterback need that are further down in the round. At this point I’d be surprised if they didn’t take Tannehill, knowing his former head coach at A&M is the offensive coordinator for the Dolphins now (Mike Sherman) and will be running the same offense.

But the way Buddy put it to me is they’ll consider it. Just keep in mind, Buddy by nature doesn’t like to move up and down the board. He likes to sit where he’s at and make his picks. Talking to him this week he feels pretty confident they’re going to get a very good player at 10."

There may be very little difference in general terms between them, but that may not be true to a specific team. They may veiw a player that they want in a position of need, and see a team before them that may take that player. Just cause the generic draft guru's think they are all equal doesnt make seeing player in positions of need all gone by time your pick comes up.

  18. I'm with you 100%.

It's hard to say that you vehemently think that three guys who do this professionally are wrong and you are right, but I couldn't disagree with them more about both Glenn and Reiff.

My biggest fear on Glenn is so many are questioning his desire or passion for the game. Afraid he may turn into another Mike Williams and not really put effort in requires to be good at next level.
