  1. my roster is ----

    mark anderson/shawne merriman

    kyle williams/alex carrington

    marcell dareus/dwan edwards/kellen heard

    super mario/chris kelsay/kyle moore

i think we all agree we keep the top 4 des

mario, anderson, merriman, kelsay- they all started last year...

i think they keep the 4 dts dareus, williams, edwards, carrington- they all started last year.

so with 2 spots open, ( just guessing they keep 10),

you have heard, troup, gilbert and ross for the last dt spot. IT WOULD BE DUMB TO CUT HEARD and i dont think troup beats him out with the back problems.

if troup is healthy, he might, but thats a big if. its probably going to be heard...

then you have johnson, moore, eddins, dotson, competing for the last de spot. moore is younger, taller, longer, and has better pass rushing ability at de. he fits wanny more....

ross and eddins go to the ps

If Troup is healthy, can't see Heard making the team. He isn't the athlete that Troup is and Heard struggles changing directions once starts going a way. Troup is more suited to the new defense if can stay healthy in my opinion.

Even if Troup isnt healthy, wouldnt shock me if someone beats out Heard, with the change of play style they are putting in honestly. Do agree you on rest of your statement however.

  2. WOW.. VERY bold statement... If he EVER becomes our "starting LT I will nominate you to be the Bills next GM or at the very least assistant GM... I agree about Brooks. He actually WILL see the field a bunch. But as you pointed out it will more than likely be on nickel and dime packages where the defense will be playing obvious passing situations. A couple pressures from the D-line might lead to his name being called on an interception or two I'll give you that. Our CB's being called "junk heap" is way over the line also. This year we're going into the season pretty damn good at CB...

About Tank I believe you're wrong for two things. One is I never said he will start or beat out Shepp. The other is him playing special teams and making plays "IS and WILL be" a key role for him. If he produces there, he will definitely be on the field as a backup to the MLB position. This is how 5th rounders make names for themselves and eventually start...

It all leads to hope on our part. I doubt you'd be upset if you were wrong about Glenn and he actually did become an elite LT as also I wouldn't be upset if Zebrie became the same. As opinions go though, I'm definitely looking for Tank's name to be called this year.

Not really that bold considering most Draft guru's have Saunders as the only Tackle we drafted grading out as a true LT prospect, and fact he has a ton of potential. Personal like the Saunders pick as the best value pick we made in draft, and while he may not reach his potential, it is not that much of a stretch to see him being our starting LT in 3 years approximately.

As far as Tank, it isn't unreasonable to see him getting good amount of reps in the defense as year goes on. Think he will be allot better in pass defense than Shepp and may get more and more reps as year goes on against teams that pass more than run.

  3. So by fully recover we're talking only one of them fully recovered? Genuine question, my impression was 17 sacks in 12 games version of merriman.

Fully recovered as far as what consider reasonable for type of surgery had is what my impression of it is. He should be able to be fully healthy and have full motion back, but likely will not have his old first step.

Would be pretty impressive to get 17 sacks in about 15 snaps a game that he will likely get if Bills defense plays well. If he is getting a ton of snaps, either Bills are blowing people out or defense is not getting people off the field.

  4. Voted Easley cause Merriman is a 3-4 olb playing out of position as a de. While he could give us a spark and a few good plays, only see him getting around 15 snaps a game, while Easley has chance to see allot more.

No guarantee that he is going to do well if he does stay healthy, but believe he is good at getting open, and other than Stevie we really don't have anyone that can get open on their own consistently on roster I don't believe.

Like billsrcursed said earlier, its more about need than past performances that makes me pick Easley. Personally think Easley is more likely to stay healthy and contribute as well. Everything I've seen says takes 2 years for players that rely on speed to recover back to form from the Achilles surgery he just had this offseason, so think looking more to next season for him to be himself again if was successful this time. If Merriman being healthy would be in his prime, not what think is going to be somewhat limited version of what he can be, then may have voted differently.

  5. Think the reason allot like Easley, including me, is he gets open often when gets his chances in practice and in preseason. Tough to judge how well that translates to the regular season till he actually gets a chance to compete there however.

I personally don't think he wins the 2nd wr spot out of training camp, due to being away from the game for so many years, and not having ton of exp before missing all that time. I do see him seeing the field allot however, and would not be surprised at all if he was 2nd on team in receptions by end of year because of his apparent ability to get open.

Fitz has seemed to click with him in practice as well, which bodes well for getting his chances if can stay healthy this year.

  6. I voted Wood. Believe is our best player on line, and center calls all the line calls. Think our line needs to stay healthy this year, especially Wood's if our offense is going to stay consistent throughout the year. Course someone capably filling the LT spot is just as important, whoever wins that position. Although I wouldn't like to see any of them hurt, they are all good players.

  7. The year before CJ was drafted we had Fred and Thug Lynch splitting time. Many here thought Fred was the real deal and I'm sure so did many of the Bills FO, Coaches and players but to think theyvwere anything but splitting time is just a rediculous statement. They drafted Spiller because they knew they would be getting rid of Lynch and because they needed another back. A back that is versitle and can twist defenders ankles on any given play. Not run them over. They knew that Freddy was old and the majority of RBs in rhe NFL never make it into thier 30s. Freddy is defying NFL standards. Regardless of how many people come out and say "well he's only got a few years of NFL wear and tear" it means nothing. Freddy wasn't relaxing in his couch for years before the Bills, he was fighting his way into the league. Hs was the MVP of his teams in NFL Europe and indoor leagues. You don't become a successful NFL running back being some pine rider in other leagues. You do more work than anyone else. You are involved more than anyone else. You probably get more mileage or just as much Mileage doing what he did. To think he has leas mileage is a joke. Besides all that, it doesn't matter. It's not a suprise that when people hit thier 30s their athletic games decline. How many 30+ year olds do you think are in the olympics every 4 years? Not many and the ones that are usually aren't running the 100m dash. There's a reason for that, your physical game isn't what it used to be. CJ is the RB of the future of this team. Starting this season or next he will be used more and more. The guy had Almost as many ypc as Freddy did last year and when he was in he did it with scrubs on the line and guys playing out of place. Levitre at C or LT, Backups at RG and LG.

I've come to the realization that anyone that thinks CJ wasn't the right pick must be one of 2 people.

1: they think RBs should NEVER, EVER be taken in the 1st round.

2: they are Lynch lovers and refuse to give up on a guy that was 1 traffic ticket away from being suspended for a single season.

You forgot the 3rd type, ones that are tired of waiting for them to make playoffs, and want the team to be good in more than one position.

  8. If you spend even a little time reading the BBMB or the TBD message board a case can be made that the 12th man is a weak spot.

Dont have to be bright to be positive spot, sometimes helps when your teams is 0 for century to this point in playoff appearances.

    :D

  9. i have never been so pumped on an upcoming season, we actually have talent all over the roster, not only that but a system thats been in place for three years, depth at positions, and most importanltly a new DC with weapons.

No way we dont go 9-7 this year or better (barring catastrophic injury) not saying playoffs as you can go 10-6 and still not make it or 8-8 and make it.

all teams have weak spots, all teams get better on paper ofter the draft, all teams get worse every year do to age and we seem to forget this.

If we had awesome everything wed be a superbowl favorite, lets just be happy we will have the most important things in the game this year, a good passer and a great pass rush.

Well 3 years on the offensive system. Will be first year for the new defensive system they are putting in.

  10. There are some people on this board who will vehemently argue to death that Claiborne is way better. I should know I have argued the same point and provided more than enough info to prove these facts; hopefully you have more luck

He played great with a lot less on defense. I for one think our 2 CBs will be great players for years to come

Personally think depends what type of defense you play and what ask them to do. Clairborne is better man coverage and Gilmore is better in zone IMO.

  11. So, two years of precious little practice, and zero regular season experience running routes or absorbing contact doesn't concern you at all? You guys are certifiable if you're expecting greatness from Easley. I wish him all the best but I'll be pissed if the bills don't have a Plan A.

You do realize that about 80 percent of the snap and training the non starters get is in the preseason rigth. Once the season starts other than the bye week, the time during the week is spent getting the playbook installed for that weeks game. Most of the actual traiing for developing players actually happens in training camp.

While understand you point that until he makes it through a full season, you dont want to depend on him completely, to dismiss him because of 1 injury and a condition that he has been medically cleared from isnt something I would do either. Personally feel like he is favorite to win the position, but they have a few castoffs from other teams that were fairly high picks besides drafting a WR they have confidence in as well, so dont think they are without options.

Main concern to me, is how long will it take for the O-Line to gel with the new faces. If the line give Fitz time, the recievers will be allowed to run deeper and have more time to run larger portion of passing tree, which should make them all look better.

  12. Have to say he is an amazing talent, and may be best corner when just look at talent in this years draft, I would have been extremely shocked if bills drafted him. With what they are trying to build in locker room, they have to look at character as well as talent, and I'm sure they did their due diligence on his background and didnt feel he was worth taking that high compared to others they where looking at. While I think he will be a great pro, there is a chance that he is a bust due to off field issues as well.

  13. I love this city. I've lived in two other American cities for a total of ten years (one large, one small), and in one other country (but that was a village in Spain, not a city). I think you're nuts, and I think, beyond that, that you don't understand that we live here by choice and not by predetermination. Anyone can move anywhere in these fifty beautiful states, but the people who live here, by and large, do so because we love it.

I cannot imagine living elsewhere again, and being happy.

I cannot imagine being happy in NYC, or Boston, or Milwaukee, or Raleigh, or Reno, Spokane, or Honolulu. I cannot imagine being happy in Madrid, Tokyo, Montreal, or Paris.

I !@#$ing love it here, and even as the winters come (and damn, do I hate winter), I always will.

    Buffalo kicks ass.

    So !@#$ off.

Ive lived in 6 different cities and seen allot between military and consulting work. I can say I love Buffalo, and if not for the economy in the area would still be living there. Sure it snows allot, but people are awesome there.

Nix said that they were dropping words that they thought he was a guard as a smokescreen. It's on buffalobills.com.

Well he has great skill set for guard, so is true that would probably be great guard. He may turn out to be a better guard ultimately, but dont see him not playing RT for us cause is much bigger need than RG IMO, and he is well suited for that position as well. While would have prefered a LT, he is a much safer pick and may turn out to be better player than any of the LT's that were on the board, so no complaints.

  14. Outside doesn't mean deep throw. Idea is to get him ball on quick out and let him run by guys, like he did on some of the highlights. Not much emphasis on route running. If he hits a few big ones it will make the defense play softer off the line. Creating space for other guys underneath.

Beleive he has allot to learn to be a starting outside receiver. He could turn out to be a steve smith type just going up and getting anything near him, but i dont see it, and havent heard anything on him that make me think he is polished route runner at all. The scout that i know said they likes him as a development reciever, but would probably take 2-3 years to learn to run routes and become the reciever he could be, but that that once does, could be very special reciever. Catches with hands well and is very quick out of breaks.

That is why i think is a slot reciever at first, cause is quick and would be great with slants and slot type routes till get tree down solid, if what he told me is accurate.

  15. And from everything I've read about Stevie Johnson, he excels in this offense because it doesn't require the precision in route running that some others do which accomodates the unothodox way he gets into and out of breaks. This guy is a matchup nightmare in the slot, Even if you just run him straight up the seam. We had nobody on the team with killer speed on the outside - I don't need the guy to do everything today. Run fast, scare safeties, break long runs off missed tackles. We have plenty of tall physical guys, need someone scary to free up space for the other guys. Think of it this way, even if he only runs 9 routes we reacquired Lee Evans for a 3rd round pick and still have the 4th we got for Evans in our pocket to take Bobby Massie or whomever else you had a hard-on for.

Looks like a descent chance to be great slot reciever, but who is our #2 receiver still?

  16. Alshon Jeffery has been on my "steal" list for a couple months, but talk is resurfacing of him creeping into the first round.

Somebody else said Marvin McNutt and I also agree. He could go as late as the fourth round.

Doug Martin is another late-first, early second round pick that I could see being a huge star at the next level.

Janoris Jenkins and Alfonzo Dennard will drop because of character issues, and justifiably so. But if they decide to clean up their lives, they could be huge steals.

Whitney Mercilus was a one-year wonder, which makes him an obvious risk. But when all is said and done, I think Mercilus and Nick Perry will be the best pass rushers of this draft.

No joke on Jenkins and Dnnard. Jenkins may be best player period outside the QB position if go talent alone, but he may be another Maurice Clarett as well.

  17. I get people would not like the Barron pick, and to be honest i am not really hot on it.

But if he turns into the next Ed Reed, wouldn't you like it?

Also the Bills are sending the clear message, we are going to beat the Pats.

Byrd, Barron, and Wilson would be on the field a majority of the time against the Patsies, since they play the two TE set. Buffalo realizes you must win your division first, then your confrence, then the SB. The first step is beating the Pats. Thats why they went out and got the two best pash rusher's in FA. The Barron pick would stay consistant with Buffalo's offseason philosophy so far.

I would rather a LT, but if one isn't there, do not force it. LB would be nice, but Barron may even help with that. barron is known to be a hard hitter who likes to be in on run plays. He was coached by Saban, who was a db coach before he ascended the coaching ranks. If Saban gives his stamp of approval on Barron to Buddy and the boys, its good enough for me.

I trust Buddy, Whaley, Chan and Wanny to all be on the same page tonight and this weekend. Something i do not think we could have said for years.

If he turns out to be ed reed would be estactic, but too me looks more like Cody Grimm. Think he is very limited in what he can bring outside of run game, and think will be an annual IR candidate cause of his playing style. Also have a felling Wilson doesnt make the team if we draft Barron. Think they like DaNorris Searcy too much to let him go, since they are trying to get younger, plus dont see Scott not being the third safety if they put 3 out there.

Wont argue with his smarts, but feel Keuchy is better in that department honestly, and would rather have defense run by a LB. Also not a fan of Safetys leading team in tackles most games, and thats what we already have, usually means teams are averaging over 4 yards a carry easy when Safety's are making most of the tackles.

  18. Why, because of a rumor regarding draft picks? You seem to be getting angry before they even pick.

Guilty of that too, just the thought of them picking Barron gets my blood boiling. Making a run to Dicks Sporting good to get me a heavy bag just in case, dont want to break anything expensive.
