  1. IMHO the key to victory for the Bills is the same it has been...throw into a lead early and make the opponent throw into our secondary trying to catch up.  Last week we didnt really accomplish that and the Colts were able to continue to run and narrow the game.  That said, even last week when we werent all that efficient on offense, there were certain drives where we were throwing for chunk yards play after play.  it will be very interesting to see how we deal with the Ravens blitz...the O-Line needs to have an exceptional game.  Also Singletary's biggest impact on the game will end up being how he picks up blitzers rather than how he runs, which i think he is pretty good at.  Would much rather have Singletary than Moss back there in that respect.

This is a pretty good game preview so far as they go, showing strengths versus strengths:

  2. Completely biased here, but there may not be a more exciting player in the league to watch at the moment.  Mahomes certainly is dazzling and im not taking a swipe, but JA is literally throwing 40 yard lasers while on the run, stiff arming linebackers, and spreading it all over the field.  When hes on, hes unstoppable, and when hes off he puts the team on his back and wills them to win it in the 4th quarter.  I think madden would be crazy to put anyone else on there...

  3. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

would put Teddy Bridgewater in there...after his wipeout year and two years of starting a few games on new teams with no traction, having a good year on a team with depleted talent post McCaffery's injury

  5. NFL press is such a funny thing.  Single games are decided by single plays, inches, and randomness all the time.  A seasons body of work is a testimony to the entire organization.  Playoffs in 2 of 3 years is a feat, and complete overhaul of mindset, procedures, strategy and roster were required.

that game w HOU could have (and should have) been won by the Bills on so many different occurrences... had it been would this be a completely different take from this guy?  Would the national press declare Josh is the next league superstar?  Football is a game of inches, even in the press and media.

  6. To the back and forth on is he risking injury or not, does he want to sign immediately or not... Im sure he has injury insurance, as all big starts do, especially coming up on contracts.  he personally is probably mostly indifferent with a slight bias to signing extension earlier for the future certainty of what his life looks like.  Other than that hes probably hiding from coronavirus, working out, and looking forward to getting out and playing football like the rest of us

  7. Congrats to Tre, the recognition is well deserved!  Beane needs to pay that man.

imagine had we not let Gilmore walk (and the fact we actually have the cap space to have been able to afford him).  Has there ever been a better secondary in NFL history than ours could have been w current players and Gilmore manning the other corner spot?

  8. The key to the game is our front four.  If we can get pressure from all sides containing Watson in the pocket and forcing rushed throws, we should be able to produce turnovers.  If Watson breaks contain, or has time to sit back and survey, we could be in trouble.

On offense, i think a balanced attack is key, mixing in runs w Singletary, designed runs by Josh, and jet sweeps w McKenzie.  That should keep the LBs up and keep the short-intermediate passing game flowing when we need it on 2nd and 3rd downs...

  9. Tre is the only lock and tier 1 at his position.  Everywhere else we have a number of tier 2 players, which is really great and why we play as a team so well, but i dont think we have any other marquee players.

John Brown is great, but not in the Michael Thomas, DeAndre Hopkins etc level

Singletary is great, but not at the Zeke, Saquan, Kamara, Cook etc level

Maybe on the O-Line some of our guys are actually THAT good, but its always hard to tell and hard for someone to come out of nowhere an gain notoriety...conventional wisdom of who is and who isnt good is the stickiest at the O-Line position IMO.

In the secondary, i think both Hyde and Poyer are pro bowlers, but a guy like Jamal Adams is in another league.  People rave over M Fitzpatrick, but i didnt see much last night that was dominating...did you?

    etc..

I think our D-line is full of studs and deep too, but Watt last night showed he is an absolute game changer...As are the Bosas for example.  We dont have that level of player, just deep and many really good players.

Final thought... I would never change the way it has gone, especially given his comments after leaving Buffalo...but could you imagine if we had GILMORE and TRE WHITE as our two CBs...holy cow.  And to think, we actually have the $ to have been able to afford both.  YIKES!!!  Think of all the coverage sacks.  And the ability to load the box and blitz all the time.... Our D possibly would be up there as best ever.  Certainly our secondary would be considered as such... Maybe it is as we are currently...that would be a good thread, best secondaries ever and where this team ranks.

  10. Cody Ford has struggled so far this season and this is a HUGE matchup.  The Broncos are better than their record and in particular on D.  I think we need to run counters, draws, and QB options to nuetralize Von Miller, or he could easily eat Ford alive and have a good game.  Key matchup is actually JA v Von Miller in the QB option IMHO.

  11. Agree he forced a number of plays such as the INT which you hope he grows out of soon.  That said, last year this was a regular occurance and this year I think he has shown good progress limiting those plays.  He still hasn’t played 16 games mind you.

on the plus side, I think his patience in the pocket is good.  He is becoming very comfortable extending plays w his feet while still hitting WRs down field (Brown and Beasley on 3rd downs in the 1st half).

he has command of the offense and everything is still headed in the right direction so I’m willing to view the couple mental errors in the context of still showing steady improvement.  B.

  12. Best wished to shady.  On the football field and locker room he wasn’t the person he’s made out to be.  Never complained, played hard, said the right things, lobbied for players to come here.  Hope he makes an impact for the Chiefs and continues his 11k quest.  Unless he’s playing the Bills

Going to add a couple others. But more as entire position groups. I took the preseason pledge so I won’t watch multiple times to really watch players

LBers - There is more quality depth here than I originally though. I really didn’t see any LBers out there that looked like they didn’t belong. It looks like there is some quality depth there.

DBs - this by far is the deepest and best position group on this team. After this week and I do think will continue thru preseason there are going to be some hard choices in this position group.  And I think there are going to be players they may be able to get a pick for before cuts.

Speaking of depth. I think for the first time in a long time there are going to be players that get cut from Bill and immediately find work in the NFL. And that is a testament to the depth this team is developing. There are still thin position groups but nothing like in years past.

Sweeney flashed to me and that is a great sign. I hope he continues to build off it and take advantage of the opportunity the INJs are providing. Would be nice to come out of this Draft season with two Promising young TEs.

Dabol reason I am putting him here is even with the Vanilla Offense it is nice to graduate into an NFL Offense. I know there are coaching objectives each preseason game. Things they absolutely want to do. Dabol seemed like he wanted to show Look We are no longer a 3 yard in a cloud of Dust team and it was refreshing. I hope it carries into the season.

All and all it is is good to have football back.

On your depth point, this will become very important as it pertains to free agency and comp picks going forward.  You will have depth guys leaving for big contracts in the future.  You will have starters leaving for even bigger contracts knowing that we have adequate back-ups ready to step up and fill in.  This will be very important to allow us to maintain a strong roster year over year as the better managed teams in the league have demonstrated.  Great start to the season for Beane and co...

  14. Purely from a fantasy perspective, Allen should be average, and if he runs like last year would be above average.  You would still be better suited with a tier 1 QB as your starter, but as far as quality-per-draft spot, Allen would probably be one of the better value picks in the draft considering most people wont even consider him.

If you skip QB and go for the platoon strategy, i would include him along side a pure passer type to hedge the bet.
