  1. Nope, he signed a few days after FA started.

Chambers agreed to his multi-year contact on Feb. 26, the day before free agency. Though it's likely that he actually "signed" it a few days later. I seem to remember a release coming out the following week indicating that Chambers was "signed." That said, he never hit the market because the deal was agreed to before free agency opened and while his rights were still controlled by the Bills.

Though the original poster makes an educated point, and anything's possible, I still think he's in the mix to start at LG. Of course, we'll know more once minicamps get going.

The one thing that caught my eye is that Chambers is listed at 6-7. He's tall, that's for sure, but he never struck me as being an inch shorter than Langston Walker.

my two cents, for what it's worth.

  2. Question:

When, when you ask us to stick to rock and roll, who exactly are we leaving out here: Beethoven, Sinatra, Yanni, the Schmenge Brothers?

Not many other genres are actually defined by a guitar player, really. Jazz? Perhaps. Country? Well, that's more of a vocal medium, though Buck Owens could pick a mean banjo, while Mr. Johnny Cash and Mr. Hank Williams could very well be defined as rockers in my book.

Of course, you could be referring to the nerd strumming an acoustic guitar on the stairs of the frat house in Animal House, but I do believe John Belushi took care of that guy.

  3. -- Lindsay Buckingham, inspired choice. He belongs in there based on his "Go Your Own Way" solo. Fantastic work.

-- Prince, good call. People seem to forget he can work a guitar behind all his eccentricities.

-- Mike Campbell. Saw Petty and The Heartbreakers tour when they were still relavent, back in the 80s, and Campbell was solid then.

-- Don't know if Brian May is under-rated, though there's a case that he is. The songs he wrote for Queen were their best rockers.

-- John Frusciante. Bravo. His work on Stadium Arcadium was out of this world. Though overplayed, his solo to end "Dani California," seemed a wonderful homage to Jimmy Page. And don't forget his subtler stuff, like listening to "Slow Cheetah." I bring that song up, because it popped up on my IPod last night. He just might be rock's most complete guitar player today.

-- Honeyman Scott, Pretenders weren't the same without his driving influence on the inaugural album.

    I'll add two more:

-- Bobby Stinson of The Replacements. Died too soon.

-- David Grohl. He's grown up from his drumming days.

  4. Uh, you were blaming Jauron for the recent "troubles" our players have had. How is that NOT the same thing as blaming Coughlin for their problems??

And pardon my inability to spell "Tiki" correctly, that obviously means I know nothing about Football :(

Go back and read your posts, YOU assumed our coach should be blamed, then brought up what a great job Coughlin has done controlling his team. Spin it how you want, you were wrong...

um, when did i blame jauron for the bills troubles? evidently, spelling might be the least of your problems.

  5. Untrue. Sold out in both years, but too late to lift the blackout in '06. Attendance over 71,000 for both games.

That I can't answer -- Graham or Wawrow probably could -- but I'm guessing they do get a chance to see it before it's finalized.

    Lori:

As far as I know, the Bills have maintained that they have absolutely no control over the schedule or determining who they play in Toronto. I can only report what I know.

  6. They had a blog this friday and & I asked a question if they combined all the Buffalo reporters IQ could they break 100? They answered 101 max, which is oh so true.

if train skoob left the station at 2 p.m. heading west at 60 miles an hour, and train reality left the same station at 4 p.m. that same day traveling at the exact same speed, when would the two finally meet if each train had unlimited fuel and the tracks just so happened to circle the world? never. this much i know.

    edit: adds buffalo reporter.

  7. It is not the budget cuts - it is the quality of the writers they employ. Almost all of the best writers move on to other places but the remainder continue writing with their work 'syndicated' by AP and other press trying to get 'local' coverage.

    g:

these two sentences are so wrong on so many levels of conceivable logic that i don't even know where to begin to dispute them.

  8. John, you're correct that nothing concrete has changed since you wrote the story you're citing. However, I think the Bills in Toronto group's recent actions (the survey, Lind's continued comments, etc.), combined with the Bills' non-denial about the possibility of re-opening the current deal and the county's seeming acquiescence, lead many Bills fans to theorize that those plans might already secretly be in motion.

In December, it was, "Oh, that's nice, he wants more games. He can get stuffed." Now, it's, "Hey, this might actually happen. To the barricades!" True, all a matter of perception ... but you're well aware that "fan" is short for "fanatic," and there's nothing like a good conspiracy theory.

    Just one fan's opinion.

    Fair enough.

Thing is, Lind's continued comments haven't changed in four months. Heck, he told the Rogers-owned MacLeans Magazine a week before I quoted him. He told The National Post much the same last June. Fact is, they were interested and they're still interested. This isn't going away, and I guess the more times Lind says it, the more it sinks in.

As for the county, Collins has said several times that he'd be open to more games in Toronto if the Bills remain in Orhcard Park. The Bills non-denial is notable, but what are they going to do, close the door on the opportunity to generate additional revenue? That wouldn't be smart business.

My point is, there has been no significant development in the story in the public realm for quite some time. The Star's piece is just the latest in a long line of pieces to quote Lind as saying, "hey, we're interested in more games." And every time a story like this is posted, it raises a new round of angst, and fans will be fanatics.

Sure, it ain't easy for those being fans of this team because of the inherent dependency issues one has to assume as part of the baggage that comes with rooting for the Bills. If it ain't another losing season, it's another quarterback or coach. And then there's the nervous tick that develops every time "Bills" and "Toronto" are contained in the same sentence, even it it's "Bill's girfriend went to Toronto and had a great time at the Korean Grill House." (Great place, I might add.)

Thing is, there are still a lot of hurdles to cross before it grows from one game to all games. Rogers still hasn't named a successor to Ted Rogers. And the new boss will play a significant role in determining where this goes. The economy is still suffering and the Canadian dollar will likely remain around the 85 cent level for some time. There's also the uncertainty of where the next CBA talks will go, an NFL commissioner who has ties to the region, and political scrutiny -- don't underestimate Schumer's role here, as the NFL needs to keep Washington happy going into the CBA talks, especially if the NFLPA goes ahead with its threat to decertify (the implication there is the NFL might no longer be open to being protected by anti-trust laws).

I'm not saying the Bills are staying or going. There's arguments to be made both ways. The reason for my post was merely to note that with all the time that has passed, not very much has changed since Lind said it the second or third time and the upteenth time.

    respectfully,

  9. Folks:

Can someone explain to me how the story has significantly changed since Dec. 5, see below? Though Lind refers to the NFL potentially expanding its schedule as an ideal chance to add a game, he never ruled out wanting another game no matter what happens.

Lind open to Bills playing more games in Toronto

    Friday, December 05, 2008

By JOHN WAWROW, AP Sports Writer

TORONTO — The executive who lured the Buffalo Bills into playing in Toronto foresees having the team make more than one regular-season stop a year north of the border _ especially if the NFL goes through with its proposal to lengthen the schedule.

"Depending on the arrangements, I wouldn't mind one more game here," Rogers Communications vice chairman Phil Lind told The Associated Press on Friday. "Especially if the NFL's going to nuke two of their preseasons game, I would think for certain we would have one of those games."

Lind was referring to preliminary discussions within the NFL of adding one or two more games to the 16-game regular season by shortening the preseason. That proposal, though, is in limbo until the league negotiates a new collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association.

Lind also continued to allay fears his company is intent on purchasing the Bills and relocating them to Toronto. He instead suggested the Bills could become a true two-city entity, an arrangement that would secure the team's long-term financial viability in the region and end speculation of the franchise being a candidate for relocation.

"If we can devise a scheme whereby the Bills can get more revenue for a season, that may even mean another game or so here, I don't know. But if we can devise that scheme and still keep the team in Buffalo and keep the whole thing in this area, I think that's a win-win, far better than the whole darn thing moving to L.A."

  10. Really? Tom Coughlin?? Wasn't he there during the whole "Tikki" incident?? He's still the coach, right? So he then bears the "gun" incident involving Plex, right??

    /argument fail

You're kidding, right? You just didn't put 2 and 11 together in some freakish bid to equal 402, huh?

First, who's Tikki? And second, if you're referring to Tiki Barber saying the Giants are cooked without him, then I guess he was proven wrong because the team did happen to go out and win a Super Bowl. But why argue facts.

As for "Plex," I'm guessing you're going out on the slim limb of supposition to suggest that at some point before, or maybe after, Burress entered the nightclub, Coughlin thrust this gun down Plaxico Burress' sweatpants and pulled the trigger. Hey, maybe he even loaded the bullets and told Plaxico, "No, no, this is a great idea. Maybe, just maybe, you should carry two, hell, three guns!"

If that's what you're suggesting happened, then go for it.

You at least got one thing right, as I'm assuming this reference to "argument fail" was in regards to your own, right?

  11. Ouch. Since you were on the job, I hope AP took care of whatever the schmo's insurance didn't cover.

And SKOOB, you may drive a prettier car, but I think I'll stick with John's "inside sources" for now ...

schmo's insurance covered all, so no issue there.

as for skoob's reference to 'different circles of affluence,' what in god's name does that mean? it's a bunch of words strung together that really mean nothing. people of 'different circles of affluence' end up everywhere. it's called a community. if you put three people together, one who makes $10,000 a year, another making $50,000 and a third making $100,000, that, my friend, is a group of people of different circles of affluence ... though if it were three people, it might be a triangle of affluence.

are their octagon's of affluence, and are they more powerful than circles?

  12. You never know ... if you drive a Ford, you might run into Ralph's chauffeur at the dealership where he takes the Taurus to be serviced.

Well, a Toyota Forerunner, registered to the daughter of a former interim athletic director of an area school, and driven by said daughter's boyfriend, once ran me off the road outside Salamanca a few year's back. All I got from that encounter was a cut forehead and a wrecked car and not one sniff of a scoop. ... I'd prefer not to run into any contacts that way again, if you get my drift.

  13. Welcome to SKOOBY's world. I'll let you decide whether or not it bears any resemblance to the one the rest of us inhabit.

To be sure, I think that train left the station a long time ago. It's never been made clear to me how the car one drives is directly related to the substance of the "inside" information one gets. But that's just me being old-school about things, I guess.

  14. if it's all out on the table, nothing can be misconstrued. If we do draft a QB with our first pick, one of the other posters on here will claim that they posted this months ago and the sheer genius of it all.

If that's the case, let me be the first to report:

-- The Bills will draft an offensive lineman with their first pick, because they need one.

-- The Bills will draft a defensive lineman with their first pick, likely a pass-rusher or a run-stopping presence, because they need one.

-- The Bills will draft a defensive back, possibly cornerback or safety, because they need one.

-- The Bills will draft a linebacker, possibly outside or middle, because they need one.

-- It's not yet been ruled out that the Bills will draft a running back or receiver, possibly tight end.

-- Kicker, punter and long-snapper are also not out of the question with first-round pick. Though unlikely, this can't be ruled out.

-- I'm also not ruling out a trade, possibly up or down, depending on what deals are offered.

-- I'm also suggesting that Bills, upon making their first pick, whomever that might be and at whatever position as noted above, will be immediately pleased with their selection.

I've got it first on all the other positions, so there can now be no mistake.

I drive an Acura RSX, by the way.
