  1. I know I am in the minority here, but I believe this is a smart move.

His draft class has alot of Stud WRs in it. Most of them are getting 5th year options. The 2nd and 3rd rounders are not.

So what does this mean: He has a good/great season this year and they work out a solid contract for him or franchise tag him and continue it.

If they 5th year optioned him, they wouldnt be able to negotiate the new contract until next year when the other studs are getting significant raises and they are competiting number wise compared to age.

Also if they tagged him off of the previous 5th year...that tag would be higher too because it has to be a percentage above his previous year salary.

  2. Ok..maybe I read the OP message wrong, but I take from it that he is a Whaley Supporter and just letting other Whaley Supporters know not to feed the fire.

But I keep seeing Whaley Supporters say he is wrong and that Whaley wont be fired...

Maybe i am in left field..its been one of those weeks

  3. Sounds like this is a proposed project. Not only will it save on energy and maintenance, but also result in better light levels down at the field level.

Will better lighting result in more home victories?

New Era Field, New Field Lighting
    Friday, January 6, 2017

New Era field (previously known as Ralph Wilson Stadium), located in Orchard Park, NY, is home to the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills. The stadium has undergone extensive renovation over the past several years. However, the field lighting at New Era Field has not been upgraded since 1999 and the lights have continuously dimmed since 2003. The current stadium field lighting consists of six (6) poles each with sixty (60) 2000 watt Metal Halide light fixtures. Because the lighting is so outdated, replacement fixtures are no longer available or manufactured. Constant maintenance and repair of the old fixtures is an ongoing problem.

The lighting renovation project is being designed by Joe Hallmark, PE, a Senior Electrical Engineer at Watts Architecture & Engineering. Joe is proposing new LED light fixtures that will reduce the overall energy consumption by 425 KW. The new lights will greatly reduce maintenance frequency, thanks to a longer lamp life. The design will provide an average brightness of 215 footcandles (FC) compared to the existing measured footcandle level of 185 FC. The increased FC level will now meet the NFL lighting criteria and will provide good depth of field and increased visibility for the players and spectators. The well-lit field will also allow for increased resolution for TV camera lenses, meaning a better picture for viewers at home.

Am I missing something major? Overall consumption will be reduced by 425KW? 425KW per hour = a savings of roughly $76.50 per hour.

One would think that LEDs would consume far less than a Halogen light bulb, and significantly less than the incondencent bulbs (which of course they dont use)

Or is that horribly written and it should have indicated saving 425KW per hour per bulb so that would be multiplied by 6 poles by 60 lights: $76.50 * 6 poles * 60 lights= $27,540 in savings per hour x 8 hours (safe estimate) = $220,320 savings a game.

  4. well make sure you check your bills. I had the first guy call my bluff and cancelled the Sunday Ticket. Then by the time I was transferred to the right person, he added it back on with my credits. So when my bill came this month, I showed the Sunday ticket billed (1 of 6). However, last month it was also billed (1 of 6) and was never credited back. So by the end, I would have paid 7 installments. After dealing with someone who had no clue, he reluctantly forwarded me to his supervisor who say the problem and issued me the 45$ credit. Says that if you get it added back on within a day or two, the credit doesnt get processed for the cancel.

So just double check your bills to make sure your not paying an extra installment or two.

  5.

They offered that to me for a two year contract. I declined.

When I did mine, they informed that they could do the 50 a month for 2 years if you got new equipment...but i didnt need anything new and didnt want to commit to 2 years more (rather leave it at 1 and do the NFLST dance again next year)

  6. I watched that game. At first I couldn't believe the lack of effort on the punt return. Guy was race-walking in the vague direction of the punt returner. But then I remembered it was the preseason. You don't want your pro bowl punter blowing out his shoulder trying to stop a punt returner at the 6 yard line in the preseason. He should've been given a raise.

    kj

He was....he was shipped out of CLEVELAND!!!!

Mary Wilson on #Bills New Era Field: "I love Buffalo and with all of the resurgence that it's enjoying right now ..." 1/5

Mary Wilson continued: "it's fitting that the new naming rights agreement is with New Era. ..." #Bills 2/5

Mary Wilson continued: "Naturally, there's an element of sadness for me personally that I hope fans would understand. ..." #Bills 3/5

Mary Wilson continued: "But I'm excited for the Bills organization and for New Era with their successes ..." #Bills 4/5

Mary Wilson continued: "And it's so great that a local company of this magnitude will be on this stadium." #Bills 5/5

    She is so awesome!!!

Cousineau wanted to return to the NFL, and in 1982 the Houston Oilers attempted to sign him, but the Bills (who still held Cousineau's NFL rights) matched the offer. He was then traded from the Bills to the Cleveland Browns for a first-round draft choice (14th overall) in the 1983 NFL Draft.[4] That pick was used on future Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly.
Without Ralph Wilson would Buffalo have a AFL or NFL team ?

Wait...so let me get this straight.

Buffalo was the only team who drafted a player #1, who choose to play for the CFL instead.

We then blocked his attempt to play in the NFL by matching the offer he signed elsewhere.

In turn we shipped him off to Cleveland in exchange for their 1983 1st round pick at #14.

We then use that pick on a QB who choose to go to the USFL for more money but after the USFL folds he comes back and leads this team to its greatest years ever.

And if he never went to the USFL, we probably would never have had the #1 pick in 1985 to grab another generational talent..

Yeah..I will gladly accept that title of losing the #1 player to the CFL.

Because without that distinction, we would never have had Jim Kelly and Bruce Smtih here in Buffalo.

And without those years, the fandom would probably not have grown into the proportion it has.

Things work out in mysterious ways!!

  9. Pretty hard not to be optimistic about the latest developments...it wasn't the Jones fracture everyone was worried about and the boot is coming off more than three months before the start of the season. Give Sammy a good 6-8 weeks to rest, bring him back to practice in August, and we should be good to go by 9/11 in Baltimore.

Rex is no Norman Einstein, but even he won't be dumb enough to put Sammy into a meaningless preseason game while he's recovering.

    Am I wrong here? Doomed?

However, he just might have him return a few Kickoffs and Punts to see if he is able to cover that position.....

  10. Conflating the argument to say they're the same is absurd and "Paid patriotism" seems about right.

If the Army, Marines, Navy, or Air Force run a recruiting ad on television I think everyone understands they're paying for that.

But a sports team hosting a contingent of uniformed or former military doesn't give the appearance of an attempt to recruit at all.

But the biggest problem, no one truly knows what the "payment" goes for. Does it cover all the Air National Guard signage around the stadium or does it cover the cost of the flyovers/guards tickets/public display during and before games?

I believe these "payments" cover the advertisements and such around the stadium and in the game day publications.

So its ok for the A/M/N/AF/NG to pay TVs for ads, however during the holidays when they do similar service men/woman shoutouts to their families...is that in honor of our troops, or were those paid ad spots? if those were paid ad spots, how did those random service individuals get selected, via lottery or paying to do it?

These what if statements could go on and on.

Because of this, I have no problem with them paying for advertisements, and no problem with the "Honor the Troops" campaigns as I do not see them as the same. Not all teams get this revenue, but all teams do the honoring...so that to me indicates a demarcation line is drawn somewhere. However, the NFL business models and pricing will never be made public because that is proprietary to their overall successful business venture.

  11.

Really? Is what he did against the rules?

Sorry DC Tom, didnt feel like quoting half the people and yours was the closest.

1st: I do believe this was in fact cheating because I do believe it is against the rules for teams to attend other teams training camps for scouting purposes.

2nd: A few years ago, Daniel Snyder got greedy and charged fans admission to training camp. The Redskins suffered severely that year as other teams came out and legally scouted them because they "Paid an admission" to attend. This act of paying, allowed them to come and scout the Redskins training camp.

  12. Got to love ESPN Beat reporters...

For the BILLS vs FISH, Rodak Picks them, and Walker picks us....so their beat reporter likes our chances, our beat reporter likes their chances.

Even more of a hack job..

    BILLS VS. DOLPHINS

Buffalo Bills: FiveThirtyEight pegs this game as the hardest to predict of Week 3, giving the Dolphins a 51 percent chance of winning compared to Buffalo's 49 percent chance. Ryan Tannehill has struggled both against the Bills' defense (21.4 QBR since 2013) and against Rex Ryan's defense (42.1 QBR against the Jets since 2013), but Tyrod Taylor is a complete unknown on the road as a starting NFL quarterback. He'll need to prove it before I can give the Bills the nod. Dolphins 21, Bills 17. -- Mike Rodak

Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins are 30th in rushing and 27th stopping the run. That’s an awful combination. Add in the fact Buffalo has beaten Miami in four of its past six meetings, and this points toward the Bills winning on the road. Bills 20, Dolphins 17. -- James Walker
