letting pat williams walk is unforgivable. couple that with no real plan on how to build a team, and the entire Donahoe era was a complete waste that set the team back a decade. yeah, he found some talent with some draft picks, but he never knew how to work the draft to build a team. throw in the fact that hiring mularkey lead to the loss of rusty jones...
i dont know, i dont have many positive memories from the Donahoe era. so far, i like the direction the team has taken since Marv stepped in and got the train back on the tracks. Levy may not have completed his plan to perfection, but at least he's given the FO a blueprint to follow.

I would add that letting Winfield go along with Pat Williams really hurt the 'D'. I think that they have been trying to fill these voids for some time...
...and I forgot about Rusty Jones. It's funny, but you make a good point. When he was head of Strength and Conditioning, it always seemed as though it was the other teams players that were always getting hurt in the game.
He was a true leader and is probably the best at what he does in the NFL. It was bad for the Bills to lose someone of his caliber.
On a side note, players are on so much juice these days...HGH, Testosterone, etc, etc...I think that with the little that medical science knows about the sheer amounts of anabolics that these guys take, and with the forces at work in the game and simply moving bodies of their size, may have alot to do with these strange injuries these past few years (Pectoral tears, biceps tears, achilles tendon injuries...).
Just me, but I think the drugs have alot to do with it.
How are the Bears the past few years in the injury department?

Interesting how Guy and Modrak seem to have had better "insight" under Russ Brandon these past two drafts, then they did under Donahoe and Levy. You blame them more then the GM's, however they seemed to do a better job after Donahoe and Levy left. You are proving that most of the blame therefore should be on the GM's they worked for! We will never know what Modrak and Guy were telling Donahoe and Levy all those years, since they have way to much interest in not burning bridges in the NFL to keep their current jobs. But here's one example for you: John Guy may have suggested that Levy sign a different free agent guard then Dockery, but Marv and Ralph may have over-ruled him for all we fans know!!
Yes, but you are forgetting that Buddy Nix was hired this offseason.
Now, true, he is only assigned to the SEC, BUT his presence is not to be underestimated.
He was on the staff when Polian, Butler, and AJ Smith were in the office and the Bills were in their heyday. He went to San Diego with Butler and AJ Smith, and helped turn San Diego from the proverbial punching bag to a Super Bowl contender.
In his stint with the Chargers, as the #2 personnel man behind AJ Smith, he is credited with bringing in much of the talent currently on San Diego's roster and contributing as starters.
With Nix now in the 'Mix', starting with this years draft, I believe that these players will start to pan out.
And to counter your point, the only consistent in terms of talent brought in under 3 different coaches and dozens of different coordinators, and 2 different GM's...was Modrak and Guy.

That play was pretty indicative of Dockery's tenure with the BILLS. He never played to his size, especially in the run game. His pass blocking was even worse.

This play is his calling card for the amount of effort he put forth and the end result. Watch alot of Dockery's play and this is what you get.
I love both Russ Brandon and OL coach Sean Kugler calling for improved toughness on the OL and letting go of Dockery and Preston. Then I loved Kugler's brief comment about letting go of players who are for themselves (Peters).
I believe that in time, Butler, Levitre, Hangartner, and Wood will gel into a solid O-Line.

I think that you guys have it mostly wrong.
Donahoe was an a$$, no doubt about it. McGahee, trading up for Losman, Bledsoe, allowing Pat Williams and Antoine Winfield walk, Mike Williams...with the exception of Parrish, Greer, Moorman, and Peters (2 of which are no longer with the team), Donahoe was a moron. Is it REALLY that hard to build an offensive line?!!!??!??
He ran the team into the ground and clearly had no plan.
Marv, now looking back, did not fare much better with free agents. Robert 'I can't catch' Royal, Larry Triplett, etc...
But Marv's drafts have thus far yielded more fruit. Lynch, Butler, Whitner, Poz, Edwards and the like are the type of players to build a team around.
But you guys have it all wrong putting it solely on the GM's.
You should be looking at the talent 'evaluators'. The guys who have been in their respective positions for the past 8+ seasons (coincidentally, the same amount of time that the Bills have been noticeably absent from the playoffs), despite 3 coaching changes, multiple turnover of personnel, Donahoe brought in 2 guys that never seem to catch any flak for their crap.
That would be John Guy and Tom Modrak.
They came onboard with Donahoe, and for some strange reason are still with the team.
I think that the drafts have gotten stronger those 2 years under Levy- considering the garbage these 2 brought in prior to Marv's arrival.
Last years draft will be interesting to see what impact it has this year (McKelvin, Hardy, Ellis).
The draft this year, I believe, is one of those that has brought many talented players for hopefully many years to come and closed some of the gap between the Bills and other playoff teams.
But if not, I think all of the blame needs to go to Modrak and Guy for their pathetic work this past decade.

Ouch!
Watching that video made me realize just how fantastic of a coach Bill Belichick really is. He's truly a genius and we're light years away from ever catching up to him and the Patriots. What is even worse is the flipside to that. I now also realize what a crappy HC Dick Jauron really is. I think Jauron should get fired just on that play alone! Poor Dockery, it wasn't his fault, Jauron didn't coach him up like he was suppose to.
OK, now here is someone a smidgeon of poor play and blowing it up that 'Belicheat is a genius' and Jauron is 'crappy'.
The video was showing the consistently lackluster performance of one Derrick Dockery- good riddance to him! Watching the video, he didn't even TRY to block the guy.
The best is that after the blown block by Dockery, Preston and Dockery look at each other, and just shake their heads.
Dockery: 'Damn, I really suck.'
Preston: 'No, Docks, I really suck. Maybe I can get away from this poor team after this season and go to a team that is a contender, and then bash the Bills about how poor THEY are after I leave'
I don't know how Belicheat's coaching prowess is evidenced in this video...

Bar none, my favorite all-time not only Buffalo Bills player but NFL player...period.
On that note, does anyone know why the Bills have carried Kelly, Thomas, and Reed jerseys for the past 15+ seasons, but they have not come out with a B. Smith one yet?
I'm hoping that with him getting into the Hall perhaps may coerce the Bills into finally giving Bruce his due...
I'd love to get an authentic Bills jersey, circa Super Bowl XXV with the patch, autographed, framed, mounted, and up on my wall.

yeah, i really don't see where all of this hate is coming towards Langston Walker.
He was really solid last year, and though he played RT and not LT, was more worth his contract at seasons end than that guy who was holding out for more money but eventually returned and gave up something like 11 sacks or something.
Stop drinking the haterade, Walker is just fine.

so many memories...I was actually at this game...I can remember not sitting down for practically the whole game as the points were aplenty...I had a pair of binoculars, and I watched Howie Long and his expressions after each play after constantly getting mauled by Howard Ballard...
...It seems like centuries ago that the Bills were this good...receivers getting open AND getting behind the coverage AND catching the ball...running backs getting into the second and third levels...a QB who instantly CORRECTLY recognized a defense and called the right play...an offensive line that just did its damn job...a pass rush...DB's who could make INT's...
...they made it look so easy.
I remember an article by Larry Felser in the Buffalo News at about this time that advised all fans to enjoy it while it lasts. A team like that Bills team comes around only once in a lifetime.
Boy, after all of this bungling by Donahoe, Modrak, and Guy...Gregg Williams...Bledsoe...Mularkey...it has sure rung true.
Is it wrong of me to want atleast a slight return of this success?

In case you were not aware of it, there are several other positions on a football team that are not quarterbacks, wide receivers, linebackers, or running backs.
I know that you wimps always want to pad your fantasy stats, but Moorman and Lindell do not succeed without a dependable long-snapper. When a long-snapper succeeds, he is Mr. Insignificant.
But when they fail...

In the past, I have spent a lot of money buying jerseys. Currently, I am considering customizing Bills t-shirts with the name and number of my favorite players. It sure is a lot cheaper than spending $80 per jersey on BB.com
Have any of you gone the t-shirt route?
I always go the T-shirt route...or the nice long sleeve thermal with team emblem or long sleeve T.
With this team in such transition, it would be foolish to pay hard cash for a player to see them traded, cut, or just plain not make it.
I originally started doing this with the Sabres (because of the natural volitility of NHL personnel and Larry Quinn's ineptitude), but find that it works for the NFL too.
Besides, so much of this stuff is way overpriced anyways...

I could not agree more.
Brad Butler is one of the bright spots for the Bills in recent years.
HE reminds me of a New England Patriot kind of guy; tough, nasty, solid, and a relative nobody because he does not draw attention to himself through assinine off-field behavior or contract squabbles.
Go back, watch the tape on Butler.
With Modrak and Guy having such a poor track record on bringing in talent on the O-line, Butler is a success.

Well, he was a second round draft pick from the Donahoe era. Can anyone explain what Donahoe was doing?
Which reminds me, why are Modrak and Guy- both Donahoe cohorts- still hanging around?
Roscoe was a 2nd round pick, and is a proven punt returner who can go the distance on any play. I would say that a 3rd would be fair.

The only way I trade Peters is if Philly would offer us both their 1st round picks. For those that are saying noway is peters worth that much nobody really knows. I say nobody knows because Franchise Left Tackles going into the prime of their career & have 2 years left on a very management friendly contract never become available. Whether you think Peters is a franchise left tackle is besides the point. My guess is that is how he is viewed around the league. Then with the 11th pick I would take the best tackle on the board & with one of Philly's picks I would take the best guard/center on the board. We would still have another 1st rnd pick to go defense.
If they are going to keep him though, they need to pay him the money. We do not need any distractions this summer.

Peters is an emerging talent, and for an emerging talent to already be voted to 2 Pro Bowls this early in his career, says alot about the respect that he has from those that matter- his peers.
I mean, they paid Kelsay waaaay too much for lackluster talent. Peters should be compensated based on his ability and he is the type of impact player they desperately need.
Based on his upside and considering that this is only the start of his career, he should command 2 1st round picks. This would allow Buffalo to gamble on a LT in the 1st round, a mauling G or C, and a pass-rushing DE/OLB. To address 3 positions of need like this, is the ONLY move that makes sense.
Otherwise, the Bills should loosen the purse a tad, as they basically stole Peters, as he developed from an undrafted TE into a dominating, franchise LT and is being paid peanuts in relation to the rest of the league. I don't fault the Bills for having a project pay off for the bargain basement price, but he has truly panned out and has tremendous upside and should be compensated for the same.
This is not the time nor the player for the Bills to be pinching pennies.

I would love this to happen, but it simply is not going to. We had the best offer for him last year and KC was going to pull the trigger, but Gonzo negged the deal. No way he wants to come now. Only way he changes his mind is if he thinks TO is a good addition and will get along with him, but I highly doubt it. He wants a big market team so he can get lots of endorsement deals to put his face on.
Note that in the article, Gonzalez stated that if the right offer came from THE RIGHT TEAM, he would be open to a trade.
There were reports last year, that the Bills were making a decent offer, but Gonzalez refused by stating that he did not want to play in Buffalo.
