  1.

Um. Okay. You think he elevated the talent of his team and got them to play better than they actually were, but aren't willing to concede that he was a good coach?

    Whatever, I don't care.

I only bring it up to say that Bills fans have been historically unreliable when it comes to determining that a coach must go.

Agreed. The point of my post was that with leadership and vision from the top perhaps the team would have would have found a way not to throw out what was good and fixed only what was needed and not blow it up to quiet the fans.

  2. It seems to me as soon as the team has a unit that performs they find a way to blow it up. When Jouron was here the D played well, but were on the field so long the got burned at the end of games, answer Gailey. Galiey switch the D and improve the O, the D suffered. Next Marrone. He replaced the O with his own ideas and fix the D. The O suffered answer, Rex while the O isn't perfect it is somewhat productive, but his change in scheme destroyed the D.

I know we all get fed up as fans and demand a chance, but if there was more vision from those in power there are several scenarios that could have seen a well rounded playoff team in the last 10 years.

    Some thoughts:

Keep Jouron, force a real OC on him and get him players

Keep Gailey Force a real DC on him already had the D players.

Hire Schwartz as HC and require OC approval.

I don't think any would have been a hit, but it may have been the vision the team has been lacking over the last 10 years. I know the drought has been longer than that, but I believe that Donahue had a vision whether we liked it or not.

  3.

If you give Rex Ryan Tom Brady he is as successful if not more than Belichick. This is a QB league and Rex has never had one.. Some of that his on him but it's mostly on the GMs he has had.

I do agree about Roman, I think he has some nice design to the run game but that is where his expertise stops. He is a terrible play caller and doesn't utilize his weapons on offense. I don't remember seeing much play action last night.

OK I know we all hate the Patriots***, but lets not get out of hand here.

  4. If we're going into should'ves then the defense should've had four picks or so through out the game that were dropped or just not heads up plays.

I'm not arguing that EJ played well or that he should start. But, to say that he shouldn't be on an NFL roster is laughable.

I don't want him starting at this point in time, like I had previously said. He's a bust in terms of NFL because he is a first round pick and nowadays they're expected to start right away. But I would not feel uncomfortable with him as my BACK UP (a person who isn't even supposed to play. The second best QB on the team)

I said that. It's funny it's like republicans you are either very far left on EJ or so far right that you can't even see anything else.

He made plays to lose us that game. 21 points in that game on the other side were attributed to him making stupid mistakes. However, did him or the team quit? The defense made stops they needed to (other than the last one) and EJ drove the guys down the field. He hit two nice touchdown passes.

I was just thinking this. He had a horrible quarter of football. No one can argue that, but he also did thing you want in a QB, show heart and to keep fighting.

Also, people seem to forget that Marrone and Hackett probably provided some pointers on how to fluster him. The Bills and he over came that enough to put the team in the lead.

  5. In the CFL you can challenge PI. NFL needs to ook into that

I don't think it should be challenged I think that NY should call over to the on field ref and reverse obvious calls. Its stupid for them to go "under the hood" for every call that might be challenged, is slows down the game. A person in NY watching all angles can quickly call over and tell the ref to pick it up.

  6. While I'm not happy about Fred's release at all and may never fully forgive DW, it may have gone down like this...

The BIlls sign Shady. With so much money tied up there, and other good cheap backs on the roster, Whaley decides to talk to Fred about him not making the roster.

The Pegulas nix the cut when Whaley informs them. Whaley, based on what he now heard from the Pegulas, tells Fred he's going to stay a Bills after all.

Whaley realizes that resigning Dareous (and others) is going to be difficult/impossible without some serious penny-pinching. He revisits the idea of cutting Fred with the Pegulas. This time he persuades them.

From Fred's point of view, Whaley is a liar. But DW may have never actually intentionally lied to Fred.

P.S. Today I'll be watching the game with the Bills Backers of Seattle wearing my #22 jersey.

I agree with most of this I would say that Whaley should have discussed the cutting of Fred with the Pegulas in march before discussing it with Fred.

While I understand the sentiment "the owner shouldn't meddle" it is their team and sometime emotional items may play a role in keeping a player or not and if it is all about money or keeping a player there is a better way to handle it than the way it transpired.

Anyhow, Fred is in a good place and hopefully sees the Playoffs this year,

  7. If EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel reversed their salaries, then I think EJ would have been cut.

I also believe Whaley wants to keep EJ Manuel so that people don't accuse him of drafting a 1st round bust. He tends to defend his trades and draft picks rather than admitting his mistakes.

For the record, experience has taught me over the years that pre-season performances by QB's mean NOTHING! I've seen every Bills QB play since 1960.

There are a lot of conclusions being drawn about these QB's based on insignificant data. I still haven't seen EJ Manuel do well against a decent defense in a regular season game. Until proven otherwise, Manuel is still a questionable 1st round pick. If he never becomes a solid stater in the NFL then it is certainly a wasted pick. Time will tell. The odds favor bust over boom at this point.

Actually since EJs was guaranteed and counts against the salary cap regardless I doubt it would be different

  8. Probably in that Whaley has always told him he wants him there. My boss tells me that all the time too but if I was informed otherwise one day I wouldn't blame my boss, I would blame myself.

I guess if I was a reporter I would probably be questioning other former Bills to see if they had the same perception of Whaley not focused on a player move, while unpopular, is not going to be reversed. I think that would be a bigger story.

  9. i don't see how they look bad. He said they consulted them, they signed off on it, whatever the heck "rogue" means we do not know but my guess is Rex wanted to try to keep him and Whaley didn't find a way.

No. I like how people pick their own narrative back in March it was evident that Rex wanted to replace him. Now people want to forget that didn't happen? I am not thrilled by the move either but to dismiss Rex from culpability seems a little naive.

  10. Maybe I missed this somewhere is this discussion but if Whaley went "rogue" and just made this decision without informing the Pegulas, his boss's, wouldn't he be fired and Fred offered his job back?

^^ This ^^ Also, if Whaley is truly on "thin ice" as people like to speculate(read Polian rumors) then he can't make this decision. He would probably have a hard time getting a job too if it had been know that this occurred.

People want football people to make football decisions(I am not sure this is), and Whaley is telling up it is, then the fans finally have what they wanted. Correct?

  11. Yes, it does. As much as I can determine, the gameday payments that a player loses due to suspension come off of the team cap.

Josh Gordon as example only has a $564K cap number for the Browns in 2015.

Interesting... I would not have guess that

Makes sense- if he's not being paid, why would it be in the cap

I would have thought a team has to work around the suspended player's figures. That way the team would have an additional incentive to keep the player inline. IDK the whole capology thing is really confusing.

  12. Again I just found this:

    http://www.syracuse.com/buffalo-bills/index.ssf/2015/03/could_rex_ryan_and_the_buffalo_bills_really_cut_fred_jackson.html

Rex was looking to replace him in March. Whaley is taking the heat for this and he probably did want Fred to retire as a Bill and told him so. Unfortunately, the coach and owner changed. The Pegula's are no where to be found much like the PL ordeal. They had buy on this too and it is all to cover Rex's facade as the "Player's Coach/ Good Guy".

I am sure Fred is upset and is holding Whaley responsible, but I think that is the plan and he is shielding Rex.

  13. What I was saying was that, contrary to what you wrote, they certainly did give Fred the #1 nod.

Fred surplanted Lynch as the starter during the 2009 season and carried on as the undisputed starter through the 2010 & 2011 seasons.

I shouldn't have used #1 nod that was the wrong term(its late). And I was trying conveying for his prospective as that was the post's context I was taking from. See my comment to Kelly's post @Posted Today, 12:07 AM.
