  1. There is an interview online somewhere. In the offseason ML was talking about wanting to be traded to a west coast team, pref. SF or Oak. He sounds in the interview like it is a "gonna be done" deal.

You think this is a bad trade?! Some of us remember the famous Lamonica trade as being the absolute worst trade in NFL history (or AFL history). They got Lamonica AND Glenn Bass, Buff got Art Powell and Tom Flores. In his first 2 seasons with Oakland, he threw for 64 TDs. Powell stayed for one season and I believe was injured. Flores served as a backup and got little or no playing time.

  2. You mean he didn't clear waivers (because the Bills claimed him), I think ... but yes, Kemp may well have saved the Bills franchise. Team was lousy and ticket sales weren't exactly brisk before he got here.

Trial period, Dog. We'll see. Appreciate the kind words, though.

If memory serves right, they got him for $100.

  3. I remember the first live game I went to at the old Rockpile, I believe 1970. The coin toss went in favor of the Cardinals and all of the UB students who were drinking nearby proclaimed that "the Bills had lost the toss so the game was over". The Cards won, btw with Jim Hart at QB. I think the Bills won 2 games that season, ugh!

  4. I am pleased with Chan so far, and I am ok with his blasting of the teenagers, but it is way to early to annoint him with Saban and Levy.

See the bolded statement above. Please recall at a Levy press conference when a reporter alluded to false drug stories about Bruce Smith. Levy went nuts on the guy. Called him and others "jerks". This was broadcast on every major football show for weeks. Levy had his players backs. Bruce Smith expressed sincere gratitude for this because he did have issues in his past.

Levy did what Chan did with 100X the impact. Levy handled the entire team, press, and fans as good as you could expect. he did it in a era that was much tougher to do so in.

Saban, who I really respect a lot, had his issues with players (Gilcrest and Lamonica certainly come to mind). Levy handled all relationships with class and grace.

  5. RIP...........How the heck would he have been exposed to asbestos I wonder.....

Mesothelioma, more precisely malignant mesothelioma, is a rare form of cancer that develops from the protective lining that covers many of the body's internal organs, the mesothelium. It is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos.

I wonder as well. Warren Zevon also died of Mesothelioma.

Wednesday afternoon, 2 On Your Side spoke to Schottenheimer, who confirmed that he had shown some interest in the job, and that he and Nix had spoken about it; however, Schottenheimer added that the discussions were only preliminary.

REPORTER: How interested were you in coaching in Buffalo?

MARTY: Well, I wasn't certain, quite frankly, that I was interested in coaching, but Buddy Nix has been an associate of mine for a number of years. And Buddy in my opinion is one of the best personnel people I've ever been around. So, with that in mind, we had some discussions, but to suggest that I was ever a candidate would not be accurate... My discussions about it were really driven by the fact that I have such a high regard for Buddy Nix.

REPORTER: Did Buddy reach out to you?

MARTY: No. Buddy and I, having been together in San Diego for an extended period of time, are good friends, and, you know, we had some discussions about (my son) Brian Schottenheimer, and all. But, there was never a point in time that this was something that I was absolutely excited about doing, to be candid with you.

Schottenheimer breifly discussed the report that Wilson was not interested in him. We asked him if it was true.

Schottenheimer breifly discussed the report that Wilson was not interested in him. We asked him if it was true.

"Not in my sense of it. No, I don't think so," Schottenheimer said.

REPORTER: Were you disappointed at all that there didn't seem to be a massive level of interest from the Bills in bringing you in?

MARTY: No, because I never considered myself a candidate. No, I didn't have any disappointment at all, because I was never a candidate in my view... My discussions, as they unfolded, were very preliminary and never got beyond that point. There was never any point in time in my opinion that I was committed to doing.

Schottenheimer said that he was never certain he wanted to return to coaching.

  7. September 25, 1983 vs. the Houston Oilers

Joe Cribbs exploded for his best rushing game in a Bills uniform. Dueling Houston Oiler legend Earl Campbell, Cribbs beat out Campbell 166 yards to 142. Buffalo built a slim 16-13 lead going into the 4th. Joe Ferguson hit Frank Lewis with a 19 yard TD to put the Bills up 23-13. Oiler QB Gifford Nielsen drove the Oilers to the Buffalo 13, when DE Ben Williams forced a fumble. Dave Kilson picked up the loose ball and drove the final nail in the Houston coffin with an 87 yard TD return with 38 seconds left.

BTW, I still have my #20 Joe Cribbs t-shirt!

I was at this game, too. On leave transferring from Goodfellow to Berlin with the AF. Mom treated my brother and me to a Bills game and Pizza afterward. End zone seats.

  8. Oct 31, 1971 at the Rockpile versus St. Louis Cardinals. I remember the "obstructed" view seats where you had to look around a support pole :censored:

Several blocked field goals, a Bobby Chandler touchdown and Jim Hart (old fav) QB for the Cardinals. The downer play was an Alvin Wyatt punt return for TD while we were in the men's room.

  9. I don't think I've ever seen a football team willingly let another team score EVER? Can someone point me to an example of where this has happened?

If I remember correctly the Bills were up by 5 at the time. If they stop them they win, if they don't it's game over. The Bills offense has been anemic the entire season. Letting them score and assuming they could mount a 60 yard drive is insane.

Green Bay v. Denver Super Bowl. Holmgren allowed Denver to score TD (T. Davis) to get the ball back with time on the clock. It didn't work as GB failed to convert on 4th down in the last series.

  10. Why do you people get delight in the fact that someone just got cut and lost their job? Do you do the same when someone in your office or home loses their job?

My point was not about the player (sorry for him), but that the Bills felt it was so important that they vtexted it out, like it was big news. This did not need to go on vtext.

  11. Seems like both teams were a little at fault and it was just one of those things. Mark Gaughn clears the Bills of responsibility but I'm not so sure. Again, I think it's part Bills and part Lions being the Bills and Lions.

You left out the last sentence of the article, which is important in context.

Was it the Bills' fault that it all didn't come together by the deadline.

"By all means, no," France said.

  12. CNN is now reporting that Southwest Airlines issued a warning a couple of weeks ago about instrument landings on that particular runway (23) in certain weather conditions being potentially hazardous. Apparently there is some earth dam blocking the signal to the south and it can cause aircraft to suddenly pitch up and go into stall (where have we heard that one recently). Perhaps it was neither ice nor pilot error?
