  1. I never said I had a better car, I said my car cost more than the average home in Buffalo. If all of you drive ferrari's or honda's that's not relevant to what I said. I was not an attempt to brag, it's a fact.

fact or no fact, it is close to the least relevant piece of information on earth regarding whether or not the coach will be fired. to bring it up makes you seem unsure of yourself.

  2. John, With all due respect, what the hell have you been watching? Since our line has been healthy, we've averaged 145 rushing yards a game.

you are correct, but keep in mind a lot of it came against san francisco, cleveland, denver, and kansas city. granted, you play the teams on your schedule, but with the exception of the jets game they've been up against swiss cheese run defenses.

  3. We already have him. His name is Chris Ellis. Larry English doesn't show the burst or moves like Everette Brown.

strongly disagree. very different player, ellis never showed that kind of potential or production. and i'll put english's nfl game speed up against brown's on sunday. did you watch the video? no burst? whaaat?

but i don't want to shift the base of the original post, so i'll just say that i think brown has a chance to be good, but there's other players that will be available that i like better.

  4. There are a few people in my scouting circle that feel Unger is the best center in the draft. Yes, better than Mack. Don't overlook Caldwell from Alabama. He's my personal favorite of the bunch, not because I think he's the best center, but because I think he's the best center for our needs. He is a run blocking machine, is stout, has great technique, and pushed around Peria Jerry (one of the top, if not THE top, NT in this year's draft) all day.

IMO, we can't go wrong with any of the top 4 centers.

Ok just found this. Just curious (and I'm being sincere here, this isn't sarcasm as much as it sound like it), since I assumed you weren't a scout in a previous post, do you get your info from a professional? If so, how do you hook that up (i.e. are friends or did you manage to get an in)?

That'd be cool to be in on!

  5. Wood is good, but he's not the style we need. He's the lighter, smarter, more versatile center that can make the line calls and pull block very well. And yes, I know what his weight is, but since you've seen him play, you know he plays rather light. Not saying he won't be good, just saying he's not the best fit for our team.

Ah I see. Your post makes more sense to me now. You feel we need more of a power player/mauler than a lighter, Tom Nalen-type. I guess we're just prioritizing the skill sets differently. Very good then.

I'd imagine that your center of choice is probably the aforementioned Mack or Antione Caldwell from Alabama, he's that type of dude for sure.

I certainly don't have the credentials to poke holes in your evaluation, so I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

  6. If that is accurate, Peters is the 21st best tackle in the league. The Bills should pay him as such. THere are a lot of other tackles above Peters on that list that aren't getting present market value, but they're not holding their teams hostage as Peters is. Let this jackass go. He's not as great as he thinks he is and is not a team player.

I find it truly flabbergasting (is that even a real word?) that, on a team that hasn't had a solid left tackle since Will Wolford bolted in free agency, there is such a rush to run a quality player at the position out of town.

Yes, I can hear it already, "who says he's a quality player?" His opponents and the coaching staffs around the league, that's who. They're the ones that voted him to the pro bowl; he did not finish in the top 4 in fan voting.

I don't care what anybody says, running your best lineman, your only high-end lineman, out of town after two straight pro bowl seasons for draft picks that may or may not play well is a recipe for mediocrity.

There is not one other team in football that would even consider trading a pro bowl left tackle. The last time it happened was back when the Saints traded Willie Roaf to the Chiefs for a 4th round pick, and they struggled to fill his spot for 3 years until they got it right with Jammal Brown. You may trust our scouting staff to replace Peters, but I sure don't.

  7. Have you seen Wood play? He is not the center we are looking for. He gets pushed around and there's no way he'd be able to handle Wilfork, Jenkins and Ferguson 6 times a year.

Yes, I have. And I'm not sure I agree with your assessment.

My opinion is based on my impression that he's a great pull blocker, has a natural "bucket" step (crucial for a center according to guys like Ross Tucker from SI.com) and is solid in pass protection. If you're worried about him getting pushed around, he has the frame to add a good 10 lbs of bulk in an NFL strength program, which I believe would certainly help his cause.

That said, there's no way anybody, let alone you or I that have no scouting experience (I'm just assuming you don't either), could evaluate how any of these guys will handle the transition.

  8. I think we go DE in the 1st......

But I am not sure if we can wait for Mack at our 2nd round pick and center is a GLARING need.........my question is Mack head and shoulders better then every other center?

If he is then maybe we really need to trade up........

Pass rush and some brute force in the middle of our OL would go a long way to improving this team.

Mack is a very solid player; easily the most NFL ready center at this point in time. I would have no problem with the Bills investing in him if they felt he could start right away.

However, there are two centers that several scouts (including NFL Network's Mike Mayock) believe are better long term prospects. One of them I've seen mentioned on this board, Max Unger from Oregon. He is a bit better athlete and has tremendous footwork. The other, who happens to be my personal favorite, is Eric Wood from Louisville. He is very raw, but his skill set is ideal for the center position, and (according to his position coach) he seems to make the players next to him play at a higher level.

    Just my 1 cent.

  9. The fact you told us to "STOP PINING OVER THE IDEA OF TRADING EVERY PLAYER ON THE ROSTER FOR A FIRST ROUND PICK" is kinda telling me I can't post my own opinion if it doesn't agree with yours.

so then, you think we can trade all 53 players for first round picks? then go ahead and post it...

  10. Andre Johnson, Roddy White, Calvin Johnson, Antonio Bryant ... all top 10 WRs without a threat on the other side of the formation.

Great players make other players around them better. Average players need great players around them to look better than they are.

It's a discussion that's worth having, but here's the other side of the argument:

Andre Johnson has Owen Daniels, who's 5th in the NFL in receptions by a tight end, and 3rd amongst NFL tight ends in yards, so I'd say that he counts as another receiving threat.

Calvin Johnson is a freak, I'll give you that one. For the others, I'll make this point: QB play...Trent Edwards isn't half the QB that Matt Ryan or Jeff Garcia is (you can add a "yet" if you'd like, but I'm among those that feel the Bills need a better QB so I omitted it).

Evans is an excellent receiver. Check the stats for yourself, (link posted below) and you'll notice that only one WR with an unsettled QB situation has better numbers: Calvin Johnson. Ok, so Evans isn't Calvin Johnson, I'm willing to accept that.

  11. To me a #1 receiver is the receiver you count on to make the catches and plays especially in the clutch and move the chains.

    # 1 receiver doesnt neccessarily have to be the leader in Yards but should be a leader in receptions and moving the chains.

A # 1 receiver should be ranked in the # 32 in receptions (becuase there is 32 Teams)

Lee Evans is not a # 1 receiver hes a deep threat reciver but he cannot be counted on in a possesion game and is not worth 9 Mil a year

Josh Reed who is really nothing more than a slot reciever and a very good one at that he proved that from year one on this team. He has been more of a #1 receiever than our official #1.

Josh reed is ranked 46 in receptions with 54 Catches

Lee Evans is ranked 36 in receptions with 58 Catches

Since Josh averages 6 catches per game and and Lee averages 3 there is a good chance that Josh will have more receptions than lee evans and these are important catches first down catches moving the chain catches while 90% of Lees catches comes from a deep ball which is why he has more yards I dont think thats worth 9 Mil a year. I don want to hear about double teams I have seen plenty of recievers catch balls in double temas it seems that Lee cannot even catch the ball when hes in single coverage its only when he has no one areound him to interfere with his catching.

Dont mean to bust up on our so called star player but hes not a fit for this offensive system and since he is not a fit for this offensive sytem he should not have been paid 9 mil a year we paid that to Eric moulds and he average more than 80 catches a year and was good for moving the chains no just the deep ball.

I apologize if I offend anyone but this is the reality I see this team overpaying for talent that doesnt fit our system.

here's my beef with your post...your sample space is too small to make a conclusive argument.

when you talk about a number one receiver, i tend to think of guys that have historically been the go-to player for their teams. so that's really who evans should be compared to. just take for example two guys like chad johnson and torry holt. since they've entered the league, they've been their teams' unquestioned go-to WRs. I would try to compare to guys like randy moss and marvin harrison, but they've played along side outstanding WRs like cris carter, wes welker, and reggie wayne (not to mention that they have QBs like manning and brady throwing the ball--but that's another issue altogether), so I'm going to state my case with johnson and holt. evans is concluding his 5th year in the league, so I'll compare his numbers with those for johnson and holt over their first 5 seasons:

    chad johnson (2001-2005): 379 catches, 5556 yards, 34 tds

    torry holt (1999-2003): 423 catches, 6784 yards, 35 tds

    lee evans (2004-2008): 291 catches, 4681 yards, 32 tds

so the only thing that really jumps out at me as lagging in evans' game would be number of receptions. can we attribute that to QB play? maybe, maybe not. but for the most part evans numbers certainly look the part.

  12. NO THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

Last I heard, this was a forum for open discussion, wether you agree with the opinions

    of others or not.

how has that changed simply because i posted my thought that wanting to trade every good player on the roster for a first round pick is ridiculous?

  13. Do I make my case?

I think I understand what you're saying. if I'm correct, it's something to the effect of "you must've had too much to drink to post something like this"

If that's the case, then woo-hoo, yes, I'm a raving drunk that thinks its ridiculous to talk as though the team could trade every player on the roster for a first round pick.

  14. how's this for 'ratcheting up the vocabulary'...

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah....

that's about the gist of what you're saying, yes?

refer to previous post regarding the intelligent, well-placed retort.

  15. I'm sorry - did you think your would provoke profound discourse?

everyone really ratchets up the vocabulary once the integrity of their post is questioned; i find it amusing.

profound discourse, no, but something better than "that was in all caps" would be appreciated. i am aware that it was in all caps; that was done for emphasis. sometimes, people will change the type, font, etc. of their post to convey a certain type of feeling to the reader. often times, the reader understands this, but in some cases, the emphasis is lost. your case would be the latter.

hope that clears things up for you. now, go back to the senate and come up with a solution to the financial crisis.
