  1. First of all, stop worrying about something over which you have no control.

Take money out of the equation. If you were Runyon, where would YOU go? Exactly.

And for those of you thinking the Bills should pick up Runyon's current contract instead of waiting, forgive my pessimism but while Runyon would clearly be an upgrade, it's not like his presence on the line will mark the difference between getting to the playoffs and getting DEEP into the playoffs. This team has more problems than a Runyon signing at full contract is going to address. If you can get him inexpensively, great, but otherwise let the rooks get the reps this year and hope, somehow, that we can bring in a coaching staff next year that knows what to do with the young'ns.

    What he said.

  2. People like to freakout in the preseason.

The Giants played terrible the first half of their game and they lost. Does that make them a bad team?

Well, when the Bills are 18 months removed from winning the Super Bowl, I'll forgive a crappy performance in a meaningless preseason game. Until then, the whiners and moaners have free reign as far as I'm concerned. Some of the negativity is over the top and gets on my nerves, but you know what? It's hard to argue these days.

  3. nailing the door shut on his son's chance of making it in the NFL.

He NEVER had a chance of making it in the NFL. There are people posting on this board who have a better chance of making it in the NFL. I'm hardly joking. The fact that he is in camp is nothing more than a token invitation to a kid who has a famous dad. If a kid with that talent had a dad who was the neighborhood milk man, he would have taken his degree from the University of Arkansas and applied for a job at Wal-Mart headquarters or Tyson Chicken.

  4. You can either take my word for it, or search through my post history, but I am not one to normally sing Doom, Despair and Agony on Me....not until late in the year when playoff hopes have faded.

Having said that, I don't mind anyone doing it right now. It's been a decade of the same ol' BS from this organization. The vast majority of the players on this team are simply not good enough and/or not experienced enough. In this group, I include guys I like just fine and are considered stars by Buffalo standards...guys like Poz, Whitner, Evans, Schoebel. In fairness, these guys could perhaps be better if they were surrounded by better teammates. But they're not, and they're not good enough to elevate the play of many average teammates.

What's worse, there is a complete lack of faith in the head coach. I don't believe in Dick. I have no confidence in a playoff trip, let alone a winning season...or even .500. I suspect this is his last season in Buffalo, and then the cycle starts all over again.

I'll watch every game, I'll root hard, I'll come here and be civil and tell anyone who gives a rat's ass that I am a fan of the Buffalo Bills. But please spare me the advice about calming down and not overreacting to one preseason game. Because it's far from one preseason game. It's a decade-long pattern of ineptitude, and in my opinion this roster (and more significantly this head coach) gives no reasonable person to think that the pattern is breaking in 2009.

If I'm wrong, I'll be ashamed of my lack of faith. Call me names. Give me a public stoning. Until then, you'll have to pardon me if I'm discouraged.

  5. you know... we go through the same song and dance every year. The Bills look terrible in the preseason and mail in a losing record in the regular season....

Maybe, just maybe they could try something different? Like not sucking for 4-5 weeks before we start the season? That would be refreshing...

and of course this game means nothing, but then again... why must we always have to say that every year?

That is exactly right. Sure, there is no need to get crazy and say, at this early stage, that the season is going to be a disappointment. But it sure would be nice to have realistic hope that it won't.

  6. The preseason is all about getting ready for the regular season. And the Bills are certainly getting the fans ready with this start.

Give up a TD on the opening drive. Check.

Turnover on our first drive. Check.

14-0 before the first quarter ends. Just wait a minute or two.

Sprinkle in a couple of teases, such as thinking we got a defensive stop, only to fall for a fake punt, and showing some flashes of offensive competence, and we are already in mid-season form.

All we are missing is the season-ending injury.

  7. The term "Thrown under the bus" is overrated.

I heard this 5 times yesterday in different contexts.

It is the "he went postal" of our decade.

Thinking outside of the box...another overrated expression that I despise.

And +1 to an earlier reference to In And Out Burger. WTF is the big deal? Major disappointment.
