Bobby Petrino runs the Pistol offense in Arkansas, which should sound familiar to Bills' fans because that Is Chan's specialty.
The Bills run a lot of Pistol offensive sets.
The Pistol offense isn't considered an "NFL style" offense, but "NFL style" offenses are turning into wide open pass happy offenses like the Pistol.
The bills ran a handful of pistol this weekend. Their offense is not based from the pistol set. The NFL is a pass happy league but theres a reason scouts still look for pro style offenses.
In college, many WRs run their routes regardless of the defense, one reason why WRs dont have huge rookie years in the NFL typically. Thats bc in the NFL WRs need to adjust their routes based on shifting coverages.
Now the same goes for QBs who ahve the read the defense on the fly and know the WRs route. This is one reason why teams prefer college QBs who run these types of offenses with success.
Its hard to do to begin with, let alone learn it for the first time at the pro level.
Many spread sets, including the pistol are one read systems making it easy on everyone.

He is young, but Bradford was 22 until two days ago I believe I heard on the news. He's been "OK" so far. I wouldn't look too much into the age thing unless there were indications he was immature had an attitude problems or felt entitled.
I know your a huge Mallet fan, so why in your opinion is he a better fit for the Bills strong arm aside?
Age isnt the issue, its grasping NFL defenses.
Its my understanding that he plays in an NFL style offense and Mallett does not. (Senator, jump in if incorrect)
Scouts and GMs do consider that as a factor.

Meh...you've been living here since '02, so you're sort of the guy with all the junk in his backyard and the beat-up living room couch on your front porch. The neighbors and I tolerate you and find you amusing but sincere - just wish you'd tidy-up your property a bit!
Interesting - I wonder, should Harbaugh get the EssEff job, if he would follow the advice of certain TSW geniuses and deliberately lose every game to ensure he can draft Luck in 2012?
Im not so sure Luck stays. THere have been conflicting reports on this issue.
I understand you are a big mallett fan, but i dont think Luck should be excluded from the conversation.
-
Actually - no, he's Oliver Luck's son, and therefore traveled around a lot. But, his high school years were in Texas.
It was tongue in cheek, i dont think it makes one bit of difference where the player is from or played in college. Thats just fodder for msg board GMs

::: omg but hes from california!!!!"""""

the guy has played 18 games since 2007 and is injury prone since taking roids. Why add nearly $2million in salary for him?
-
LOL! You are the best troll on this board.
As the OLB he does have contain actually BUT it doesnt mean he shouldnt be making tackles. Napolian is a personal friend of Kelsay's and thats the reason behind his blind support. Cut him a little slack.
-
From what I've read, Locker stayed at Washington because he had the scoop that no one was taking him in round one last April - so I'm not sure how much $$$$ he may have left on the table by going from a 2nd-round pick last in the last draft to a 3rd-round pick this April.
No matter - I couldn't care less about the guy's bank account, I'm just glad I don't have to read all the posts from the guys who were drooling over him then switching sides in a nanosecond, and saying 'worst draft pick ever'!
If the Bills need to draft a QB early, Mallett's the guy.
If luck comes out he will without a doubt be taken before mallett
Mallett seems to get injured a lot hes had a knee shoulder foot and concussion.

I guess I see that's the rule, but I wonder how evenly it's enforced.
If the positions had been reversed, would the refs really have ruled that wasn't a TD?
What about if a receiver's 2nd foot lands on the ref's shoe as he goes out of bounds?
It may be the right call under the rules, it just seems like a violation of common sense.
The world isnt governed by common sense, its governed by rules, just like sports. Theres no consensus for what is common sense on many issues which is why there are complex rules.
The rule applicable in this instance is to take a judgment call away from the refs. ie would his foot have come down in bounds. Instead it has to come down in bounds no matter what. It might not be common sense but it sure is smarter sense.

im glad.... this debate had been raging for far too long on this board!
-
the guy is a waste.
Anyone think there is a reason no one ponied up for him ? poor attitude, money hungry and has a back injury. Yea lets get him morons.
-
but didnt you see him in that one game where he destroyned a subpar college defense???
-
That's actually quite hilarious, but I thought those were the days when a cop would pull you over ask ask you nicely to dump the beers out and get on your way....
ryan leaf was also a douche. Winning is alot more than attitude.
-
sigh
the what ifs. I thought this guy looked like a beast coming out of college. I remember when whitner was picked everyone in the room going whattttttttttttttt

It is amazing that in an age where you have 24/7 news and info channels and the internet publishing articles in minutes, you'd think people were more educated, more knowledgeable about any particular issue. But, in the rush to get everything online or on tv asap; there seems to be a severe lack of in-depth reporting. Even the in-depth analysis seems to just be "experts" shouting at each other in some psuedo debate. End result probably isn't a dumber society necessarily; but certainly a mis-informed society that is much more easily swayed.
perhaps that and todays news, especially in the online era, has become opinion with scattering of facts. I mean there have been studies that show viewers of certain programs understand less about current events.
So either those viewers are not as bright or they are only getting their information from certain sources.
The line between news and opinion has been so blurred it may never come back (news doesnt get ratings)
-
Normally, you don't pick a RT in the 1st round...
-
Yeah, I'm not a newspaper reporter where I am going to cite sources, but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...
thats a good argument. You should email Nix for future reference at the next trade deadline.
I know our 29 yr old corner is injured but cant we get a coupla picks.... he walks like a duck ....

Well, it's pretty obvious that the OP (and maybe even a couple blokes who 'bumped' the thread) wanted a response from me - and you know how I hate to disappoint!
Anyway, yeah your right - Mallett's backup looked fantastic. Tyler Wilson is also a red-shirt sophomore who's thrown the ball 95 times in 8 games - 4 of them losses. (That just needs to be said that before some TSW idiot shouts, "Git 'er done Buddy!" based on the 40 minutes Wilson was the Razorbacks' QB last Saturday.
)
BTW, the award - which I've never heard of - had nothing to do with the foto selection; I was just looking for one with some attractive quim. I could just have easily just posted the one of Mallett and Erin Andrews...
Haha well played. Wasnt sure where you were goin gwith it.
Cant base it off of 40 mins that true.
But it seems the board is now divided between luck and mallett, with locker no longer really a fan consideration. Interesting.
What happens to the luck fans if he stays. Do they become "Senator-ites" and jump on Mallett train?

What insight do you need to discuss the Bills for the past ten years? If it is the same old story, then it is the same old story. Ugly is simply ugly. How do you freshly analyze a generation of garbage?
bc nothings changed teh analysis should be garbage? so teams that have been successful for the past ten years should have garbage analysis.
Its just an excuse for WGR thats all. I've actually talked to some of these guys who get their analysis from other people, bc they are clueless.
-
How would you like to be a broadcaster and have to comment on the Bills for the past decade? What can be said that hasn't been said about the team and organization? You can't fake enthusiasm when the product is the dismal Bills.
The Boston stations can talk about the Pats, Red Sox, Celtics and the surrounding college sports' teams. The primary sport product in Buffalo is the wretched Bills. They have been bad and boring for a generation. When that is your main source of material then don't be surprised when you get garbage.
bc the Bills suck the analysis and insight should match? not buying it.
-
Frankly, most cities don't have as much local sports radio content as Buffalo does. And for a so-called "small market city," I'll bet we're almost unique.
That said, I listen because they entertain me. They might not entertain you; that's ok. You don't have to listen. And apparently, you don't even live here, so why do you care?
Thats a joke right?
-
not to mention the NFL would be hesitant to approve ownership where its money comes from gambling.
like i said crack...........
-
Actually, what you read was 'Ryan Mallett Likes His Balls Su- '...oh, never mind.
Mallett's 2009 National Performer of the Year Trophy
I knew the Senator couldnt resist. That award is based on metrics only and has only been given once making Mallett the only recipient. Not the best argument in his support i suppose.
Dont get me wrong not arguing against him, although he backup looked just as good.
-
Are you insinuating that the OP in on crack, or implying that the answer to all of these questions is yes, thereby agreeing with him?
Ahhh, at least someone picked up on that......
Luck supporters get used to Mallett~

Right those teams have run more spread sets. They also have 3 pro bowl QBs running them. Most teams do not run offenses like those teams.
Its really about the types of reads the QB has to make, whether he was under center and less about what the actual formation is.
