Daboll has to be a bit more committed to that balance when teams decide to rush 4 and play coverage. We have to do enough to get them out of those split deep safety looks or punish them for it.

seemed the Bills would mostly telegraph their runs pout of tight formations

should have spread them out and ran out of obvious passing formations

draw pulls would have been nice as well

I see a lot of people saying Josh was bad yesterday and turned into "Sugar High Josh," but every time they were showing our WRs they were just blanketed with coverage.

What was Josh supposed to do?  To me, if anything he should've started scrambling earlier and more since our WRs weren't bailing him out and our OL wasn't doing a great job.  Yes, he took bad sacks and lost too much yardage, but I didn't think that was "Sugar High Josh..." it was him realizing that he had to carry the team on his shoulders yesterday for the team to have any shot.

just like KC did on numerous plays, Dabol should have rolled the pocket

then slow released a RB or TE 7-15 yds downfield

I think a "re-tooling" is in order for this off season. For the most part, the Bills have a very strong roster. Certainly their roster is strong enough to compete on par with any team in the league other than KC. For the upper tier teams, the cap and having to pay an elite QB makes it so that no team can be absent of flaws, although for now, KC is very close. I feel like while there may be needs in a number of areas for the Bills, the two primary focus areas should be on the lines of scrimmage. A difference making edge rusher DE and/or a "plugger" DT would help a great deal, as would another offensive lineman or 2. Our line played well in pass pro for the season, but it appears that some of it was surely assisted by Allen's athleticism and they certainly weren't great last night vs. KC. When it comes to run blocking, our line left a lot to be desired. Keeping in mind that its more difficult to run out of spread formations, still our backs were often stopped in the backfield, and far too often to at least maintain the "threat" of a running game. Yes for sure we are a passing team now and should stay that way, but this will allow them to be much harder to defend.

As for coaching and strategy, I hope our coaching staff learned after last night that as the heat turns up in the playoffs round by round, the refs keep their whistles in their pockets more and more often in terms of flagging grabbing and holding by defenders. Its on our coaches for not adjusting to or anticipating this. This was the reason our receivers were covered like a blanket all night. And we don't have the types of receivers who can easily break handsy press coverage for the most part. If we get back to this game next year, our defense needs to play that way, laying hands on the opponent in coverage to keep them in check if we face another high powered offense. And our offense needs to have a plan of attack for getting off the line vs. overzealous press coverage (maybe more crossers and rub routes? More horizontal game ie. McKenzie's role).

screens, draws and reverses  work wonders to exploit jail break pass  rush

not sure why these are never called

I don't think he can have a torn meniscus, or he likely wouldn't be off the injury report.

could have had arthroscopic procedure to shave down the torn meniscus

if meniscus, pain and lack of motion was from swelling in the joint - which has now subsided or will be drained

I can't remember if we were underdogs in the Miami one but I do know I wasn't confident about it. That was the same playoffs as the Comeback so there was a feeling that it was meant to be, but we also had to go on the road to the Steelers and then the Dolphins. And with Kelly coming back for this one I was worried that the magic the team had with Reich wouldn't carry over.

As I remember Kelly just killed the Phins with an endless stream of screens to Thurman.

The game against the Chiefs I remember the whole football world wanted us to lose even more than the previous year because they were hoping for a matchup of Montana against his former team.

I was just a teen then myself so I figured there would be many more Championship games down the road. How wrong I was

recently saw a replay of the championship game in Miami

just a comedy of errors from Miami that gifted the Bills tons of points

First of all, it doesn't work that way.

If he is in the protocol, the protocol is clearly defined and has 5 stages that he must move through over a period of days.  At the end of all of it, even if the KC team physicians clear him to play, he must get further approval from an independent neurologist assigned to the team.

Could that ind. neurologist be in on the scam?  Does he/she live and work in the KC area?  Is he/she a Chiefs fan that would like to see Mahomes play?  Are they unscrupulous with a disregard for the code of ethics they swore to uphold as a medical professional?

    Who knows.

I'll suggest the ind. neurologist will do what is right, and if he/she sees that it is not, Mahomes will not be cleared to play.

If he is cleared to play, as mentioned before, he is going to have a very unusual week of partial practice which has to benefit the Bills to some degree.

He is also putting himself in danger of getting another concussion by playing so soon.  The Bills should send everyone early in the game and try to get him removed from the game.

each NFL team has an "independent" neurologist assigned to the team who lives in the home  team area.

not sure who pays him,, and how much.

pretty sure not a full time gig, as the NFL can not even employ its regs on a full time basis

The Philly job is a bit more desirable in my opinion. Hurts is a decent young QB and they have their draft choices and while their cap is hell you could easily sell them on a 2 year rebuild of let's develop Hurts and get out of cap hell. The issue with Philly is that their GM appears to want a lot of control over the coaching staff.

except the owner wants  Wentz and just fired his coach who wanted Hurts

Here's 3rd and 9 at the Ravens 10 just as Josh throws.  Bease is open on the L but short of the sticks.  Diggs on the R is tripled.  The guys over the middle are doing their job to draw attention and have Gabe Davis singled.  Real anticipation throw with a nice spiral, I don't think wind took it.

Davis does a good job of tracking the ball and screening off the DB, he just can't seal the deal.  Humphries may or may not have hooked Davis hip and be pulling before the ball gets there

    image.thumb.png.bfa3fe98a73c1d5e01317cb504be1969.png

He gets a palm on it though

It just goes through his hands.  It wasn't a "bunny" but you'd really like to see the kid make that.

We got a FG for the lead.

Sure do you remember down and distance?  Otherwise I'll watch for the play I think you mean

interesting that Davis is not getting near the flak for an easier and shorter play than what Duke got last year

the W makes all of the diff

To be honest, I didn't think he got concussed. More like his neck got violently wrenched or pinched, as it were, causing loss of oxygen and/or consciousness. One can get quite woozy from such an event.

It wasn't a choke hold.  See the video linked and here is a post the doctor made specifically addressing that Patrick did not get choked-out by a choke hold.

For those saying he was choked out, first of all loss of consciousness from low blood flow would not cause fencing response. And second, the compression isn't long enough to cause LOC imo. Think of UFC fights. It takes a good 5+ seconds of a choke for a guy to go out. This was a second or two, maybe. Third, the angle of contact from the defenders arm is more straight down onto shoulder pads, not into the neck directly.

At 2:29 Michael started to praise Diggs after he did the Ravens would win handily!!!

being the classless felon clown that he is, Irvin has them play the tape of Warner's pick 6 in the Super bowl

watch the return a nd notice how many Cardinals were involved in trying to stop the return.

that pick originated on the outer boundary

where was the entire Ravens offense trying to stop the Bills?

I mean, it does make sense. We don't really have a running game that's going to scare anyone. They will likely key on Josh every time we run a Read Option unless Singletary or Yeldon can gash them a couple of times causing them to do otherwise. That worries me for two reasons. I don't want Josh getting injured and the Ravens are ALWAYS trying to rip at the football. Even their DB's are among the best in the league at this. The one thing you can't really game plan for if you are Baltimore is Josh and his improv runs. He can see an opening then it's boom, off for 10-20 yards. They can try to spy him, but he's faster than people think and he's hard to get on the ground in a one on one situation (hey, Kyle Van Noy ). I also think we need to use their aggressiveness against them with some quick hitting plays that give our guys the chance to go get some YAC. If we can do this early, get a couple of chunk runs from our RB's and get some quick hitters that go for some nice YAC, then their defense is going to have a hard time dealing with all of the weapons we have on the field at any given time. Josh will be able to pick them apart like he did against SF, Seattle, game 2 against NE, and Miami.

Bills unveil the completely novel concept of the RB draw play

followed closely by the screen pass to the RBs and Knox

then the seam pass to Knox, over and over

Can’t post a link via my phone, but there’s a ton of buzz on twitter right now (started with a Rappaport tweet) that he’s pissed they didn’t consult him about GM hiring after they said they would....

This is the off-season narrative that 2021 deserves!! Put it in my veins!!

We all sat on the edge of our seats for Kirk F-ing Cousins! Imagine what this would do!

Watson pissed about the GM and the coach

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/01/07/report-deshaun-watson-advocated-for-eric-bieniemy-as-head-coach/

And now we know why Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is telling teammates he may ask for a trade.

A flood of reports has emerged on Thursday night, as reported have chased the story teed up earlier today by our item raising the question of whether Watson wants out. It’s now clear that he does.

Albert Breer of SI.com supplies another reason for Watson’s consternation. Per Breer, Watson advocated for the Texans to hire Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. The Texans, however, became the only team with a vacancy to not even interview Bieniemy.

Breer explains that Mahomes “put in a strong word” for Bieniemy, which prompted Watson to push for Bieniemy. The Texans, who had said they’d consult with Watson, ignored Watson’s suggestion. And that undoubtedly has contributed to the consternation and frustration that Watson is currently feeling.
