1. He moved out there the first week of November.  I'm not sure how he got the job but he ended up checking people in at the front desk.  He didn't start the job until the 3rd week of November.  Two weeks ago he told me he was getting a promotion to assistant manager.  He said with that job he would clear over $38,000 per year.  Not crazy money by any stretch but impressive for a guy that never made more than $12/hour around WNY, never went to college, barely graduated high school, and has only been out there for 2 1/2 months.

Happens to be the same place I work -- first I highly doubt he is being promoted to Asst Mger after less than 3 months - he would not even be "on his own" working at the desk for very long right now, if at all. Also that $38k is a little inflated, unless he plans on working alot of OT and getting tips, etc. May be sugarcoating some of that.

Other than that which bothered me when I read it lol, I think this is a great place to live. It's just more upbeat than WNY. More options of things to do outside of work, great places to eat (ok they are expensive and nothing like the places in WNY, but not much is), and some really nice places to live as long as you can afford. And of course the weather is great. Its almost 8 pm here right now and about 60 degrees outside. I think so far this "winter" its gotten to 32 twice in the early am. That's it. And it's funny to see everyone running around all bundled up with winter type clothes on while I have a sweatshirt on. Definitely good place to live, and being an ex WNYer i would definitely agree. If you're going to be here during football season, go to Johnny Macs on Boulder Hwy in Henderson, great food and great crowds for the Bills games.

  2. I thought the Steelers were gonna blow the game because they went into the "prevent offense".  They were trying to kill clock running the ball from mid 3rd Qtr on but at 21-10 it kept Indy right in the game since running doesn't get points.  Had Pittsburgh kept up with the passing game mixed with a few runs that game would not have been such a nailbiter in the end.

Does anyone know the status of Big Bens throwing arm? He got knocked pretty hard on it early in the 3rd quarter, got a welt between the elbow and shoulder according to Armen, and I think threw 2 or 3 passes after that. That, besides the fact that they have a great running game with 2 quality backs and an amazing OL. If he's at all injured and not 100% for next Sunday, might as well not even play and give Denver the AFC. Without Big Ben at 100%, they are a completely different team.

  3. I might hate the Pats - but I was smart enough to put $30 on them today at the local sports book. No way were they going to win by less than 8 points against a team from Florida in a home playoff game with Brady and Belichik. Ok, now lose next week Pats when I bet against you :D

  4. I liken Capers to guys like Dick Lebeau, Gregg Williams, Wade Phillips - all one-time head coaches who were promoted from being defensive assistants, and then promptly demoted back. And they all do much better as DC than as HC - not many guys that can go from being a quality assistant to being a quality HC. Capers would be fine IMO as a DC here. But obviously a new HC with a new mentality is needed, first and foremost.

  5. Part of my offseason plan is to get Dom Capers in here for an interview for the hopefully soon to be open D-Coordinator job. Donahoe has already hired him once with good results and may be willing to do it again. We'll probably have to make some personell changes but with our lack of players at DT, maybe a switch to a 3-4 isn't such a bad idea.

And the emergence of Crowell at LB.

  6. I work at MGM, saw the weigh-in before the fight in July, it was pretty intense itself, even though they were only on stage for about 5 minutes. Been a big story locally here the last week or so, there's not much else going on sports-wise, except for the National Finals Rodeo at Thomas and Mack <_<

Should be a great fight, I think. Hopkins is the favorite in the books here, but don't count out Taylor's youth and fire.

  7. the reason why the trade would make sense is if pennington is cooked it will still cost the jets a bad cap hit to ditch him.

if they trade vilma for rivers they won't have to pay the massive bonus that rivers got when he signed as the high pick that he was, so they can manage to fit him under their cap.

obviously the best thing for the jests is if pennington is OK and the get bush.

SD may well get a top 10 pick for rivers because he will come with a good contract (bonus and first couple years money has been paid allready)

    513964

The part of the trade that makes no sense to me is the Vilma AND a #1 pick for Rivers. I can see Rivers-Vilma or Rivers-#1/#2 pick, but not the combination, seems like too much to give up from the Jets perspective, despite the desparation they may have for a QB if Pennington's not healthy.

  8. Despite his stupidity I think he still deserves a HOF presence

    513939

Now with 2 drug related arrests?? Alot of talent should not outweigh two clear violations of the law. Although on the first I know he pleaded no contest basically admitting guilt and this one has yet to go to court, but that's two times two many for the HOF IMO.

  9. Anybody hear Boomer's pre-game suggestion for a trade?

Philip Rivers to the Jets for Vilma and a #1.

His take was that the Jets want Rivers bad, the Chargers want to move him bad, and the signing bonuses that both teams would eat are close enough to a wash.

After seeing the Bolts last week, can you imagine if they added Vilma and another high #1? Talk about loaded.

    513897

Makes no sense to me - why would the Jets trade away the best young linebacker and what will be a top 5 pick for a QB that's played 2 downs in the NFL? That would be highway robbery for the Chargers. So it would never happen IMO.

  10. Pats-Seahawks could be a good SB.

    513852

Was just thinking about the SB earlier - regardless of the NFC rep they will get smoked by the AFC team - be it Indy, Pittsburgh, Denver, Cincy, etc. The AFC-NFC disparity is not as big this year as last year, but the top 5 teams or so in each league do not even compare.

  11. I've said this before, and it doesn't really require repeating, but !@#$ it.

Getting adjusted to watching the games start at 10 a.m. after growing up on the East Coast was absolutely painful. I'd get together with a Backers group in whichever city I was living, we'd go to a bar, they'd close the doors and blind the windows and suddenly football was on and my body would forget it was only 9:30 a.m., so it would order up a beer, and some wings, and watch the games the way I always did. Unfortunately, when the game was over, it wasn't 4 p.m., it was freakin' 1 p.m. and I was already hammered and by the time the afternoon games were over, I was toast and headed to bed by 7 p.m.

Thanks god for the Ticket. If I'm going to get hammered by 1 p.m., I'm freakin' doing it at home where they appreciate a good afternoon drunkard.

    504335

Agree completely. I used to have to set my alarm to get up for the home games when I had season tix at 7 am and if it was a road game I got up whenever, never after noon or so. Now I set my alarm for 8:30 am and am always scrambling to get to the bar by 10 am. It's tough to get used to, definitely.

However the 5:30 SNF starting time and 6 MNF starting time are awesome. First week this year, since I just moved to Vegas in May, I was about to go to bed after the Colts-Ravens SN'er and realized it was about 9pm. That's sweet.

  12. Got to see the Vegas show on Friday. F uckin AWESOME. No "I will Follow" but they did bring out "Electric Co.", "Oceans" and a all time fav "40"! Stage was lit up and full energy all around. Real great, but the price was $185.00. Absolutely ridiculous even for U2, which I love. We all have the Corporation Giant MGM Grand to thank for the $100 sur-charge. What a joke!!

Good thing I got the ticket for free from a friend. Still $185?!?!?!?!?

    502847

Eeeeeeeeeeeasy now lol. I work there and I paid full price. We made a prett penny on the shows, but a great majority went to the band, label, et. al. No where near $100 per ticket. We don't make our money on the shows themselves.

DVDs of the 11/5 Vegas show went up today on Dime.

    WTF??  :D  :)

    502879

Yea before "One" Bono was talking about playing some type of fundraiser for the Gulf Coast and Mary J Blige played with them and she was a great singer, etc. I thought who cares. Then halfway through she comes out and sings the rest of the song. IMO ruined one of their best songs. Although they made up for it in the encore by bringing out Brandon Flowers (The Killers - native of Las Vegas) to sing on "In a Little While" and it was great. Mary J does not do a good Bono, though.

  13. Did they play I will follow in Vegas?

    502309

No - here's the setlists for the shows, Vegas is about halfway down. They play almost the same show every night, but no I Will Follow last week. Although I heard somewhere that Mysterious Ways was kind of a rarity. Oh and the production of the show was amazing, I was quite impressed, even with all of the expecatation.
