  1. maybe a new philosophy will wake this team up.jauron is not a leader. the players love him because he doesn't get in their faces when they mess up or don't work hard enough.he is too soft on his players.maybe if they feared their jobs a little bit and maybe if the coach is tougher during traning camp will the team toughen up. a weird thought just popped into my head.maybe marv levy sugested to ralph to hire jauron knowing he would fail as a head coach. don't forget marv lobbied for the head coaching job and ralph gave him gm instead.probably not but just a thought

  2. Detroit used to make specials for drag racing, and NASCAR.

In addition to the Superbird and the Dodge Daytona, Ford made the Talledega Torino GT in 1969 with a bulbous drop-nose, and Dodge made the Charger 500 in 1968 (I think). It had a flush grille, and the back window was flush instead of recessed.

Developed in 1964, Ford dropped their 427 SOHC motor into the Galaxie in 1966. It would have killed the MoPars - but NASCAR banned it. The tunnel-port 427 wedge Ford motors were beating Chrysler - which is why they produced Superbird/Daytona. Ford retaliated with the 1969 Boss 429 motor - huge intake passages; you could drop a baseball through the intake manifold side of the heads. It would have murdered the Chryslers - but Ford dropped out of racing then.

The 1st Mustang CJ428's were sold in 1960 sans insulation for drag competition (The 428CJ being the 428 2-bolt main block, with large-valve 406 heads replacing the smaller 390 head).

In 1965, Dodge made the D/Stock Dart, 273 c.i. without a stitch of insulation, in 1966 Mercury sold a stripped down 390 Comet GT with functional scoops called the C/Stock Comet.

All three manufactures had all sorts of options available for competition. In 1968, Olds made a Cutlass version called the Ram-Rod 350, with ducted scoops under the front bumper and a cam profile with so much overlap it would barely idle - or so it was said.

Even AMC kicked in a few items, notably the compact Scrambler.

ford also raced with the shelby cobra and the cyclone

  3. Very True

Isn't it kinda strange how the loser Pro Football organizations keep finding these total losers to run the entire team, like the Lions with Matt Millen. The guy was a total disaster from day one and yet they gave him year after year to improve and he never did, they kept getting worse every year.

The Lions need someone like Scott Pioli from New England for president to rebuild that team from the ground up,but they won't hire him or anyone like him.Speaking of Scott Pioli,he wouldn't be a bad choice to take over for Ralph Wilson in Buffalo.

wouldn't it be funny if the lions hire tom donohoe lol

i think you coevered every angle lmao.

  5. My 50 dollar bet right now is that Detriot will give holmgram a call give him a huge contract and make him gm/coach pretty much give him the team, and Brett will play with him next year and they will reunite.

i don't think the ford family is smart enough to pull that off.

  6. I know that we've discussed this before, but we can clarify it more now. You can officially add Kansas City to the list.

Home: Miami, New England, New York Jets, Houston, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Cincinnati or Cleveland

Away: Miami, New England, New York Jets, Atlanta, Carolina, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Tennessee

Had the Browns beaten the Bengals on Sunday we would definitely have played the Bengals, but now it comes down to the final week.

BTW, this will be Tampa Bay's first ever regular season visit to Buffalo. And do not worry about the Bucs getting the Toronto game. They were already selected to go to London next year. It seems highly doubtful that the NFL would want one team making 2 international trips in a season.

i would think that the nfl would want to make sure that game is a hit. they could use indy because of manning or cleveland because of the short drive for browns fans.

  7. keep in mind that Atlanta and Miami are more the exception than the rule. Generally flipping your organization results in at least a year of two of rebuilding and learning new systems - at which point we likely will be calling for another firing if we don't light it up that third year.

The Dolphins turned it around for 2 major reasons - replacing total incompetence in their coaching staff and front office (say what you will about our current guys but they put the 1-15 Dolphins staff to shame); and bringing in a top 10 veteran QB replacing absolute ineptitude at that position, heck they were starting John Beck and Cleo Lemon last year - are either in the NFL anymore?

The Falcons success is much more extraordinary. Matt Ryan has proved me completely wrong about him - I thought he made too many stupid throws in college. We'll see if they can sustain this for more than a year or if they're a flash in the pan.

The difference between 6-10 and 9-7 or even 10-6 is basically within the margin of error in the NFL. A missed kick here, or a bad bounce there is often the difference between a successful season and a failed season. Think also of teams we were envying just last year - Jacksonville, Green Bay, Seattle even Washington - all we assumed were perennial powers with organizations to envy. Even the endlessly deep pockets of the Cowboys may not be enough to even get them into the playoffs, let alone go anywhere in them. They are stuck in the middle like most everyone else, regardless of what ESPN says.

There is a lot to be said for our coaching staff putting a competitive product on the field week in and week out and being even in a position to win virtually every game we've played this year. I can't stand some of the playcalls - and think our defense plays too conservative a lot of the time. But I can't blame them for JP Losman's near unfathomable ineptitude that probably cost us the game against the 49ers, Dolphins and Jets (and Lindell with the Browns). To me, Losman is the talent that Ralph may have meant isn't good enough to win with - and even then we were in clear position to win those games.

    well said

  9. For me, on-line editions leave a lot to be desired.

One - I find the ads, the dancing bits of "bling" to be a distraction.

Two - often, I refer to different parts of an article. I find this easier with print media.

Three - the on-line editions do not carry all the articles - be it National, State, or local, that the print edition does.

Four - and most importantly to me, the on-line editions often presents a truncated, condensed version when compared to print.

I also find printed material much more amenable to contemplating and digesting what I've read.

With reductions in print media staff, there has been a reduction in local coverage of things that matter - government hanky-panky gets less ink, school boards and zoning boards meet with little or no exposure of their dealings to the general public and so forth.

The elimination of the written word, replacing it with audio/visual has long been a favorite of theme of authors who write about future societies - Fahrenheit 451 is one example.

You might not like that 21st century. Even today, one could make a strong case how the internet, how audio/visual packaging of information has turned Presidential elections into something in the neighborhood of "American Idol".

    great post
