Two Bills Drive

How the Bills will adjust to a new offense and a new coaching staff. After several lackluster offensive seasons under Wade Phillips, new coach Gregg Williams hopes to open things up.

He hired Mike Sheppard as his offensive coordinator, and Sheppard is installing the potentially explosive West Coast offense.

‘Bills all-pro guard RUBEN BROWN will host a group of 150 youngsters from the Salvation Army at the inaugural "Ruben Brown Football Camp for Kids," sponsored by the Adam’s Mark Hotel. The event will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, July 10, at Ralph Wilson Stadium from 1:00-5:00 PM.’

‘Rookie quarterback Tim Hasselbeck recently sat down with buffalobills.com to answer a few questions about his adjustment to Buffalo…’

‘The rookie, Henry, has the best chance to be a first- and second-down back. He’s a very powerful runner with a low center of gravity and tremendous desire. On the other hand, Morris is a terrific receiver with good run skills, adequate speed and very good balance and body control but questionable durability. Bryson has the best speed of the three and is a breakaway threat, but he also has the fewest run skills. Hands-wise, Bryson’s between Henry and Morris.’

‘Buffalo Bills third-round pick Jonas Jennings is entering his first season in the NFL following a standout career at the University of Georgia. Right now, McGee (agent from Peerless Price) and Jim Overdorf, the Bills’ contract negotiator, are currently working on a deal to sign Henry. "Contracts are all about timing and patience," McGee says. "Like with Travis Henry, I want to get something done; it’s just difficult at this time."

‘The 4th of July is a time to enjoy fireworks, barbecues, family and friends. The Buffalo Bills use the holiday to appreciate their time at home. After all, these are their days to relax before the stress and hard work of training camp kick in at the end of the month. Some of the Bills prefer to stay low key and watch fireworks at home with their family.’

‘QB Rob Johnson — The Bills made the right decision in making Johnson their starter and letting Doug Flutie walk. Now it’s time for Johnson to show that he can be a legitimate starter. He has all the tools, but he has had trouble staying healthy, some say because he holds the ball far too long. That’s a criticism to some, but isn’t that also an indication of his desire to make a play? Now that the Bills have adopted a version of the West Coast offense, Johnson should have a better chance of staying healthy. Plus, he doesn’t have to worry about the pain from all the knives in his back courtesy of Flutie.’

‘Williams’ was really excited about our offense. He said that we had so many weapons that teams are going to have a real hard time defending the field. He was especially high on Centers, Riemersma, and Moulds. He said that Peerless has been impressive in camp, but he has to take his game to a higher level this year. He said that he expected great things from him.’
