Strategy and personnel

‘The Bills have won their first games by a combined 69-17, but their running game is a point of concern heading into this week’s game at Miami.’

CBS Sportsline | Sep 16, 2003

Notes, quotes, anecdotes

‘”If we are going to be the team that we expect ourselves to be, we have to win on the road. This was a big test for our young guys coming down here, but we’ve got another one next week.” — Bills coach Gregg Williams on winning the first road game of the year.’

CBS Sportsline | Sep 16, 2003

Bills riding high on Bledsoe's fast starts

”’The first one, I think, we needed psychologically as a team after what happened the year before,” said Gilbride, referring to Buffalo’s two lopsided losses against New England last season. ”And this one (against Jacksonville) was to prove that it wasn’t going to be a letdown, that we were going to come out and play just as well as we could as we did the previous week.”’

Former Bills receiver charged with DWI

Wright was arrested last Wednesday morning in the town of Hamburg, a suburb of Buffalo, after he was involved in a three-car accident. Three people were transported to area hospitals with injuries after Wright rear-ended one of the vehicles. Wright was also injured, but did not go to a hospital.

Unexpectedly, the D has carried the up-and-coming Seahawks

Forgot to tell you this last week, but Lawyer Milloy really wanted to sign with Seattle. So much so he would have taken less to play there. But the Seahawks, who talked to agent Carl Poston about Milloy, are in good secondary shape and never were in Buffalo’s financial ballpark of four years and $15 million. Reggie Tongue is good enough for Seattle to get by with at strong safety.

Poor analysis On Bill's O soft spots

Excellent response to PFW article on Bills by Stadium Wall All Pro Barry Brady.

Pro Football Weekly | Sep 15, 2003

Bills avoid letdown to take care of business

‘The Bills were 8-14 in the game on third down, despite a running game that was virtually non-existent outside the red zone.’

Dunkirk Observer | Sep 15, 2003

A winning air about the Bills

‘”I don’t know if you can establish yourself as the team to beat after two games,” he pointed out with an eye toward next Sunday night’s game against the Dolphins in Miami. “But we can definitely set the tone for how we’re going to play for the rest of the season.”‘

Olean Times Herald | Sep 15, 2003

It's tough to find fault with the Bills

‘And, oh yeah, Buffalo middle linebacker London Fletcher wasn’t even frustrated at the short field his unit inherited. “The fake punt didn’t go our way,” he admitted, “but I look at it as a challenge for us to step up and play.”‘

Olean Times Herald | Sep 15, 2003

TD drives make for record start for Bills' offense

‘After a tough opening week when second-year wide receiver Josh Reed dropped a sure touchdown pass on a flea-flicker and caught only one ball of seven thrown his way, he redeemed himself with five catches for 71 yards against Jacksonville. “What happened last week?” Reed joked, “All I know is that we won. In this game you have to have a short memory.”‘

Olean Times Herald | Sep 15, 2003

Jaguars-Bills Game Notes

‘The last time the Bills scored TDs on the opening two possessions of consecutive games at any point in a season was in December of 1990 (12/9/90 at Indy and 12/15/90 at NYG).’

BuffaloBills.com | Sep 15, 2003

Unwelcome home

‘"He’s a very accurate quarterback and when he gets hot he can really hurt you," Del Rio said of Bledsoe. "We stopped the run, made them throw and he torched us."’

St. Augustine Record | Sep 15, 2003

Jaguars need to take a few more chances

‘It’s only two games into the season, and premature to write the year off as an utter and complete failure just yet. But it’s getting close to panic-button time…’.

St. Augustine Record | Sep 15, 2003

Bills stick to familiar rout

‘In outclassing a Jaguars team that has lost 11 of its last 14 games, the Bills made some statements about their passing game. Their three-receiver formation still is dangerous despite the loss of Peerless Price. Their pass protection is capable of high-quality play. And Bledsoe is virtually unstoppable if given enough time to throw.’

Buffalo News | Sep 15, 2003

Fletcher tips his cap to Winfield

‘"They don’t come any tougher than Antoine," said Fletcher, who tied Winfield with a team-high 12 tackles in the season-opener against New England. "He’s not afraid to take on anybody. I know I have to watch him leading the team in tackles. If I’m not careful he’s going to break my record (209 last year).”
