BillsBeat - September 29, 2025

This date in Bills stadium history: Sept. 29

‘1974 — Bills 16, Jets 12 — Swirling wind and soaking rain made it just about impossible to throw the ball. Jets quarterback Joe Namath tried anyway and was intercepted three times while completing just 2 of 18 passes. QB counterpart Joe Ferguson went 0 for 2, while the Bills rushed for 223 yards. Buffalo’s defense limited the Jets to 106 yards rushing and seven first downs. O.J. Simpson ran for 117 yards, fullback Jim Braxton had 84 yards along with the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter, and the Bills improved to 2-1 after three games at Rich Stadium to start the season.’

Bills withstand stubborn Saints, improve to 4-0

‘In a tougher-than-expected outcome, the Bills beat the New Orleans Saints 31-19 and improved to 4-0 this season.’

Carucci Take 2: Bills’ closer-than-expected win doesn’t overshadow 4-0 start

‘However, winning by a closer margin than oddsmakers and many others expected means little in the long run. What’s important is the Bills are 4-0. It’s the first time they’ve had such a start since 2020 and the second time in Sean McDermott’s nine seasons as head coach. It’s also the first time since 1992 and third time in franchise history the Bills have scored 30-plus points per game through their first four games.’

Bills fans celebrate early, then enjoy another home victory

‘The near-perfect weather on the final Sunday in September didn’t hurt the fan experience.’

Bills stumble into win over Saints, move to 4-0

‘The defensive momentum shifted to the offense for the Saints. Spencer Rattler moved New Orleans 34 yards to set up a third-and-goal play for the Saints. A trick play had wide receiver Chris Olave attempting a pass to Rattler, but Cole Bishop flew in to take the ball away with a one-handed interception. The takeaway marked the second-yard safeties’ first career interception and prevented the Saints from putting up points before the end of the first half.’

Thad Brown: ‘Disappointing’ wins aren’t fair, but Bills have high standard

‘So probably not a surprise that a 12 point win illicits as much disappointment as delight. Part of the reason is the Bills have set their standard so high. There’s no doubt many parts of this game were not up to that standard.’

Buffalo Bills hold off Saints with 31-19 win; stay undefeated

‘The Bills looked to run out the clock and went 9-plays for 42 yards, ending in a Matt Prater field goal to extend the lead before the 2-minute warning.’

‘We have our Bills family’: Garage near Highmark Stadium becomes gathering spot for fans and players

‘“We have our family and we have our Bills family and we look forward to the season every year because we get to see our football family and our football family is all the people outside,” Larson said. “It’s the same people every year, every game. We just have a blast with them.”’

Bills 31, Saints 19 | Final score, game recap + highlights

‘With over eight minutes left, Buffalo’s defense showed up with two consecutive fourth down stops; with one resulting in the Bills going down for a field goal and the other forcing New Orleans to settle for 19 points on the game. Defensive End A.J. Epenesa capped off the Saints’ afternoon with a sack while Joey Bosa punched the ball out and forced a fumble. Allen took the field and three kneels to run the clock out.’

Top 3 things we learned from Bills vs. Saints

‘In the first half, Allen was 1 of 3 passing for 4 yards and an INT against two-high safety looks according to TruMedia. The interception snapped the Bills’ run of 391 straight offensive plays without a turnover, ending what was the longest active streak in the NFL.’

'We did enough to win' | Bills defense reflects on ups and downs from Week 4 victory over Saints

‘”It was a huge play of the game if you kind of really think about [the] big picture,” head coach Sean McDermott said. “… They score before half potentially, they come out with the ball after half. And now you’re talking about, potentially, … [a] 14-point situation there. So, big time play … they ran a gadget there and [Bishop] did a great job sniffing it out.”‘

4 keys for the Buffalo Bills to beat the New Orleans Saints

‘The Buffalo Bills are rolling, while the New Orleans Saints have yet to notch their first win of the season. Quarterback Josh Allen thinks that should have the Bills on alert. “They want to win as badly as anybody in the league right now,” Allen said Wednesday of the Saints. “And again, there’s no easy games in this league.” Still, if any games were to be easy, it would be the next stretch for the Bills. That’s all the more reason for them to stay focused on going 1-0 each week instead of jumping ahead to opponents down the line. Coach Sean McDermott preaches the mentality to avoid falling into trap games.’

Bills-Saints numbers to know: These 4 stats could shape Buffalo's game against New Orleans

‘77.7 – The Bills’ run-block win rate of 77.7% ranks first in the NFL, according to ESPN, and they are third in pass-block win rate (74%). The Saints’ defense is 31st and 23rd, respectively, in pass-rush win rate and run-stop win rate, but they’ve allowed just 3.3 yards per carry. Bills running back James Cook is second in the league in rushing yards (284) and yards after contact per game (77.2), trailing the Colts’ Jonathan Taylor. Cook has rushed for a touchdown in seven consecutive regular season games, tying a franchise record.’

Bills-Saints: Who you got? Buffalo News writers make their predictions for Sunday's game

‘There are two primary objectives for the Bills going into this game. The first is to play a complete game, which means eliminating the lulls we’ve seen at times during their 3-0 start. Get off the field on third down on defense. Avoid three-and-outs on offense. The second is to put the Saints away early. Josh Allen should be firmly planted on the bench by the third quarter. Take care of business, rest the starters as much as possible and move on to preparing for a divisional opponent in a “Sunday Night Football” matchup in Week 5. Bills, 40-14.‘
