letsgobills1990 Posted September 15, 2009 Share Posted September 15, 2009 I know my opinions don't matter all of that much, I am no expert, but I think there are a few things to note from week 1. The positives- Who would have thought the Bills would have actually made a game of this? The team had us on the edge of our seats till the very end and although the ending is not exactly what we wanted, it was certainly better then this whole board thought it would have been. Most of you (myself included) figured we would have had it turned off by half time. Keep in mind this game was the first for quite a bit of rookies on our oline and they stepped up and were not intimidated at all by the patriots. This was an away game, the pats home opener, bradys return.. the pats were pumped, the crowd was pumped. The Bills shut the crowd up, and the looks on the pats face said it all. Brady is one of the best QB's in football and he proves why all of the time, he is just so smooth and relaxed in the pocket and under pressure that it's insane. I hate him, but if anyone was going to lead a team to a last minute comeback it is Tom Brady. Our oline looked a lot better then expected. I won't say great, but they looked better then we thought. The no huddle really had an effect on the pats (mainly Vince Wilfork) which was a great thing to see. T.O and Evans combination- love it. Really opened up alot for Jackson. And trent himself. Trent looked tight in the no huddle, the no huddle didnt look bad at all. Everyone thought the pats would light it up against us. McGee for the most part held his own with Moss. With all of that being said, a change in coaching would do wonders for this team. It seems they always blow the late lead they just do not have enough intensity and when you see your coach stiff as a board not doing a damn thing, it has an impact on its team. The bills need to look for a fairly young, outspoken coach who will pump the team up when they need it. The frustrating part over all of this is the Bills found a way to throw it away when they had the game under wraps and that is what is truly frustrating about this. But I sure feel alot better going into week two then I thought I would be. The team does not look nearly as bad as we all expected. They put up a good game, they kept us on the edge of our seats. I would love a coach like Mike Tomlin, a guy young, who is willing to get in his players faces. We have some talent, we just need someone to put it all together. To me, the reason why you want a new HC is to get someone who can make in-game adjustments to counter what the other coach is going to do. A real smart man, not a phony. Another thing I want my HC to do is walk the sideline, CONSTANTLY communicating to his players and assistants. A coach who will walk the sidelines would be great, at this point anything over Jauron would be considered an improvement haha. He didn't do bad tonight, but he certainly did not help. We need a coach that the team will not only respect, but will be afraid of. Jauron does not scare any of them, and i'd like to see how many of the players actually respect Jauron. Patriots made adjustments at halftime, we didnt. In the first half we were able to consistently pressure Marsha. We got ZERO pressure in the second half. Thus the cheatriots scored at will in the second half. If I am not mistaken every possession, yes? Through in playing the soft prevent after we went up by 11, and the writing was on the walls. It was exciting. There have been many GREAT coaches that have just stood there calmly. Phil Jackson, Tom Landry are two that immediately come to mind, and those are all time greats. Belichick doesn't get real wound up. Sometimes when everything is crazy it helps to see a calm coach. I know someone is gonna say "this is football, and it's an emotional game" or "times have changed" but it doesn't really matter. That's not the problem. Fans want to see the coach yell and humiliate the players because they(the fans) can't themselves. It's silly to think that that's gonna fix this team. Childish. We win if he does I think. How can you say the coaching cost them the game, and then say that if McKelvin hadn't fumbled the Bills would have won??? The Bills coaches did a real good job (and I can't stand Jauron). The Bills were playing a team that is better than them in almost every facet of the game, yet they should have won, except gaffes by players put the Pats in position to win the game. The Bills defensive plan was perfect. It worked, they even stopped the Pats on that touchdown drive, only to have the worst spot I have ever seen give the Pats a first down. The overcame that though. They had the game in hand, then the fumble (not a coaching error, even if Mckelvin was instructed to bring the ball out, were they supposed to tell him "and don't fumble"?). Bend dont break worked great, lots of very short passes. The Bills shut down the run. Yes the defense was tired, but they still should have won on the road against a better team. The only way he loses his job if the team falls apart and the opposite looks the case tonight. The team will probably improve as the young line jells and other players develop and Mckelvin is made to understand you don't fight for that last yard in a situation where you cannot fumble.
