Brooks was originally selected by the Bengals in the third round of the 2006 supplemental draft. But the Bengals gave up on him after only two seasons, cutting him after 2008 training camp. In 11 games with the 49ers, Brooks had been inactive each week. To replace Brooks, the 49ers promoted receiver Chris Hannon from the practice squad.
