The days of the civil service" discount are long gone. Pensions, protections from the ups and downs of the economy, the long-standing fact that being incompetent can almost never get you fired -it takes years, remain intact. Something for the proponents of a "national health" scheme to ponder...if and when and to what extent you get treated will depend on the whim of somebody who can't be held accountable for killing you.
