McCarthy said he intended to talk to Alex Van Pelt, who he coached while at the University of Pittsburgh. Van Pelt was recently hired to be the quarterbacks coach at the University of Buffalo, under former Green Bay director of player development Turner Gill. “Alex Van Pelt is someone I’m very fond of,” McCarthy said. “Alex is a young, up-and-coming coach. I will say he is under consideration. We’ve left messages. I have not spoken to him. Alex Van Pelt will be an excellent coach in the National Football League some day.
