  1. They are negotiating with Roscoe, so I can't see him getting cut. I said earlier it wouldn't shock me if they cut David Nelson, even though I want him around.

Don't rule out Craig Davis either - he had a solid game yesterday and may have won the "bubble" spot. I think they go with the healthy guys, eliminating Nelson and Roosevelt.

If they cut David Nelson, they are sniffing glue. Nelson is a no brainer starting rotation player to me.

Craig Davis?? Is that you Buddy? No way this guy makes the roster. If he does, it's Nix being a homer to a guy he drafted. He's got brick hands.

  2. This is one of the tougher decisions the Bills staff has to make. Unfortunately I don't think that we have loads of talent to pick from as Buddy stated when he cut Evans. And I'm not counting Brad Smith as a WR. But these are the guys that I would pick to make the team:

    - Stevie Johnson

    - Donald Jones

    - Roscoe Parrish

    - Marcus Easley

    - David Nelson

And one of these 3 guys should make the team:

    - Kamar Aiken

    - Naaman Roosevelt

    - Ruvell Martin

Tough decision there. Aiken and Martin have looked pretty good in the preseason and they've got decent size and speed. Both of which Roosevelt lacks. However Naaman has rapport with Fitz and the other receivers, and supposedly has reliable hands. It is possible that Roscoe Parrish becomes a surprise cut. He's been around for long enough to know what his potential is, he hasn't played a full 16 games since the 2007 season, and he's never had more than 400 reception yards.

    Obvious cuts to me:

    - Craig Davis

    - Felton Huggins

    Thoughts?

  3. After a long offseason with the lockout, likely not as much conditioning, and no practices under his belt with the team, I hope Kirk just sits and watches this weekend. To go out there and try and play would just be asking for an injury to happen. And this team can't afford to lose a player of this caliber right now.

I'm totally pumped to see this guy out there, but honestly it can wait until opening day.

    Go Bills!

  4. This isn't a comedy thread - - far from it. Could Toronto businessmen already have either an outright option to purchase the franchise or a right-of-first-refusal to match anybody else's offer to buy the franchise - - both triggered by Ralph's death? Could they have such rights either with or without having already purchased a minority ownership interest in Buffalo Bills, Inc.?

I would actually LIKE people to shoot this theory down if they can - - I'm not claiming it's actually happened, but I'm having difficulty seeing why it's not plausible.

It's easier to understand the rationale for this theory if I lay some facts out in roughly chronological order:

    1. It's beyond dispute that the Buffalo NFL franchise is actually owned by Buffalo Bills, Inc. - - a New York Corporation. The Brady suit made ownership allegations that NFL court pleadings, including those filed in the 8th Circuit, have confirmed. I've previously posted a link to official New York State corporation records showing that Ralph Wilson is connected to that same company. If anybody wants proof I'll go back and dig up the links upon request.

    2. The NFL Constitution and Bylaws (as amended through 2006 which is the most recent version I've been able to find online), establishes a few more facts:

    (a) The "Home Territory" of the Buffalo franchise, as that term is defined in Article IV, Section 4.1, at page 14/292 of the Constitution and Bylaws, extends for 75 miles in every direction from the corporate limits of the City of Buffalo. This "Home Territory" therefore includes Toronto.

    (b) The Constitution and Bylaws, at Article IV, section 4.2© at page 15/292, prohibits any other NFL club from playing a game within the home territory of the Buffalo franchise unless the Buffalo team is a participant in the game.

© Notwithstanding the above, per Article III, section 3.1(B) at page 5/292, a new Toronto team could be admitted into the league if 24 of the 32 team owners vote in favor of doing so.

    3. On August 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina hits New Orleans, damaging the Superdome and creating speculation about the future of the Saints franchise in New Orleans.

    4. "Early in September 2006 Canada ’s two most important sports entities began the process that might one day create one of the largest sports ownership groups in North America ..."

There are people with money, or access to money, in Toronto who have wanted, for a long time, to buy an NFL team and have it play games in Toronto. See this October 12, 2007 posting of an article apparently originally written by Howard Bloom for Sports Business News - it gives some background about several Toronto businessmen and their interest in bringing the NFL to Toronto:

    http://sportsbiznews.blogspot.com/2007/10/nfl-expansion-to-canada-will-not.html

    5. According to SI's Peter King, an otherwise unidentified Canadian consortium made an offer to buy the Saints for a billion dollars that was turned down by the Saints' ownership. A Toronto newspaper speculates, in an article published on September 25, 2006, that the consortium was probably a group from Toronto.

    6. In an interview with the Buffalo Evening News that took place no later than June 17, 2007, Ralph Wilson confirmed for the umpteenth time that the team will be sold upon his death. He also said that he would not leave the team to his wife. Perhaps significantly in my view, this is the very last time that I can find any public comments by Ralph Wilson where he was willing to say much of anything specific about what would happen to the team after his death. I have seen lots of articles saying the team will be sold after Ralph's death to the highest bidder, but NEVER with quotation marks indicating that Ralph actually said the words "to the highest bidder." I think that's significant, because IF Toronto businessmen already own an option to purchase or a right-of-first-refusal the team WOULD be sold AFTER Ralph's death - - just not necessarily as the result of a bidding process. As far as I can tell, all the articles reporting that the team will be sold to the highest bidder are just assuming that there will be a bidding process because that's the most common way for assets to be sold after someone's death. But I don't see why an outstanding option to buy or right-of-first-refusal would be inconsistent with the exact phrasing of any statement RW has made at any time since the 5 year Toronto Series was announced.

"Also out of the question, according to Wilson, is the prospect of selling part of the team to a Western New Yorker while he’s still alive in order to perhaps give that person an advantage in eventually taking over the club. “That’s absolutely out,” he said."

    7. "In October 2007, Bills owner Ralph Wilson petitioned NFL owners to allow his team to play one “home” game per year (over five years) in Canada."

[Editorial note - - I don't consider Wikipedia very authoritative but I could not immediately find anything else specifying this date in the chronology]

    8. The 5 year Bills in Toronto Series deal was announced by Ralph Wilson and Ted Rogers on February 2, 2008. The deal runs through and includes the 2012 season. "The deal with the Bills wouldn't preclude Rogers and Tanenbaum from making bids to buy and relocate other NFL franchises if they go up for sale."

    9. Here's Erie County Executive Collins' press conference after the announcement:

    10. Here's the Bills' stadium lease with Erie County. It expires on July 31, 2013. So the last regular season games it covers are the ones played in the 2012 NFL season.

    http://www.erie.gov/billslease/stadium.phtml

    11. Whoever owns the Bills franchise (either before or after Ralph Wilson's death), can exercise an escape clause by paying a fee to buy out the remaining term of the stadium lease if they choose to do so.

    12. On or about December 3, 2008, shortly before the Bills play the first regular season game in the Toronto Series, and shortly after the death of Ted Rogers, ESPN.com reports - -

" Rogers Communications was the creation of Ted Rogers, who as a law student built his holdings in an FM radio station into a wireless and cable empire that employs 24,000 and is worth an estimated $18 billion. Rogers Communications already owns the Blue Jays, the Rogers Centre and the Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. The death of Rogers, at 75, on Tuesday -- five days before the first NFL regular-season game was to be played in his building -- might not have a big impact on a potential move by the Bills.

Phil Lind, the Rogers vice chairman and a huge Cleveland Browns fan, is said to be the driving force behind the push for the NFL. Rogers has the diversity and the cash flow to spend the $1 billion it would take to buy the franchise. Certainly, the $78 million U.S. price tag to effectively lease those eight games is a powerful sign of interest."

    13. The same December 3, 2008 ESPN.com report also stated:

"Buffalo fans have been nervous since the Bills signed an offseason deal worth $78 million with Rogers Communications that will take the Bills to Toronto for eight games, three of them preseason contests, over a span of five years. There were rumors that the deal included a right-of-first-refusal clause when the team is sold, but that hasn't been confirmed."

[Editorial note - - I would love to see somebody ask RW if anybody already has a right-of-first-refusal or option to buy the franchise and get a direct, responsive answer]

    14. Although there are valid reasons to doubt his credibility, some time between January, 2011 and May 11, 2011 Doug Ford, a Toronto councilman, claimed in an interview, when discussing the seating limitations of the Rogers Center, that "he has spoken with officials at Rogers communication about digging down to add an additional 15,000 seats. The renovations wouldn’t cost taxpayers a dime and furthermore, he added, thousands of jobs would be created.

“(The NFL) can’t keep ignoring a market this size,” Ford said.

And what about scarce turnout when the Buffalo Bills occasionally play in town?

“If we had our own team,” Ford told the Score, “we’d treat it like it’s our own and build up a fan base.”

    There is a “big difference.”

    http://www.thestar.com/mobile/NEWS/article/987073

[editorial note - this guy might just be a shill but I included his comments here because I had not seen the idea to expand the Rogers Center posted here before - - maybe I just missed it and I don't know how plausible "digging down" is]

    15. There is some precedent for an NFL owner granting someone an option to buy the franchise at a future date. There may be other examples, but it's undeniable that a former owner of the New England Patriots once did this. See paragraphs 71-74 (under the heading "The Murray Option") of this otherwise long and complex court opinion:

    http://openjurist.org/34/f3d/1091/sullivan-ii-v-national-football-league

Somebody please convince me that there's no possible way that anyone in Toronto already has a right-of-first-refusal or outright option to buy the Buffalo NFL franchise upon Ralph Wilson's death, because I want the Bills to stay in Buffalo.

Thanks, that's a great summary of the events that have occurred. Oddly, it is starting to feel more and more like this move is inevitable. Toronto will eventually get a team, and I can't see any other franchise outside of Buffalo being the one that gets selected. The pieces just fit a little too perfectly. Unfortunately for Bills fans, everyone has to sit and wait until Ralph Wilson passes away.

  5. Seem like mainly random pics. Who says they are all from Buffalo? Just the title?

The website does features on different cities. This time they had anyone from Buffalo send in pics of women from their city. It's possible that people might break the rules and send in photos of random hot women, but generally people are pretty honest. There's nothing to gain from lying about it.

I think it represents the city pretty damn well!

  6. Nice link...I am sure it will be followed by lots of disparaging comments...but I always thought there were plenty of beautiful women in Buffalo...

Of course, that said, I guess I am getting old...the pic that illicit-ed the most excitement for me was the one of the Bills helmet, surrounded by chicken wings! :P

 you must be getting old. There's a lot more excitement in there! Although I'm not gonna lie, those wings look really good...

  7. I thought this might be a good way to get everyone excited for this season. There are pictures of Bills games and Jills cheerleaders in this gallery of pictures, so this thread better stay in the football related category. And for what it's worth, it could be the best collection of pictures I've seen in a long time! You're welcome...

  8. Now I am not saying that there weren't times when MAYBE Fitz should have moved the RB, or audible (they may not have wanted to show this in the pre-season), but blaming Fitz because the worst o-line in football is messing up their assignments is a little ridiculous. Spiller isn't helping either. He can't block, and barely tries.

If he had an experienced/quality o-line and these things were happening thats one thing, but you can't blame Fitz because other players on his team aren't good...

    Yup. This ^

I agree that the O-line hasn't played well. Bell only got burned by Von Miller because he couldn't get a quick enough jump on him. You can help your lineman out by calling a hard count on speed rushers like Von Miller. That way they'll be hesitant to get off the line as quickly.

That being said, we need to bring in at least one top quality O-lineman to this squad. They are sorely lacking talent.

No offense, but this is a pretty ridiculous reply. So many things wrong with it...

Seriously? "Putting on a show for the fans"...thats what you think Denvers intentions were in one of the two key preseason games (games 2 and 3) after no offseason, no OTA's, etc? That is about the most ridiculous statement I have seen on this board in a while. There is not a single GM or Head Coach who gives 2 craps about entertaining fans in a critical preseason game desperately needed to evaluate players in a normal year. Magnify that by 10 in a year where we just had a lockout with no OTA's etc. Not to mention...TEAMS BLITZ...its the NFL! Fitz is a Vet, he should handle it better than he did if he is "one of the smartest QB's in the league"...

That brings me to the second issue with this post...this over exaggerated fact about Fitz's on field intelligence is getting an awful like the non stop praise of Trent Edwards poise (which didn't really exist). I get it, Fitz went to a great school and is a smart individual in general. But on field awareness is a COMPLETELY different animal and they don't always go hand in hand. Fitz consistently, week in and week out, has moments in the game that leave you scratching your head. There are plenty of open recievers he hasn't seen, bad sacks, absurd INT's, missed blitzes, terrible throws, etc. Yet somehow, his band wagoners always seem to make the most ridiculous proclamation that he is one of the smartest (in terms of on field awareness) in the league.

If that was even remotely true, his career accuracy rating would not be near the bottom of the league. He would know the D so well, that he could pick apart the D using quick decisions. He does NOT do that. His "awareness" is a concern for those who when watching football know what they are looking at. Him being one of the smartest in the league in terms of awareness is great over exaggerated. Its one thing to line up on the line of scrimmage and evaluate what you see from the D...its a completely different scenario (and the one that matters most) to hike the ball and read and react to the D in play, something he is no where near the "best in the league at".

Thank you. Glad you see things the way I do. I knew I wasn't alone on this.

  9. You guys are talking like he should have been in the film room studying for the Broncos all week so he'd know all their blitzes inside and out. You forget, this is pre-season. No one cares or gameplans, so the fact that he wasn't fully prepared for the blitz this past week doesn't bother me too much. If it continues in the regular season, that's when you need to start worrying

It shouldn't matter if it's preseason or not. Does Fitz want to get drilled in the back by an unblocked Linebacker in any game?? I think not. Should he see that Nelson has a CB shaded to his outside with no safeties in the middle of the field in any situation? Yes, he should. Preseason or not, Fitzpatrick needs to work on this. You don't just simply walk up to the line of scrimmage and call the play, regardless of the coverage.

  10. Fitzpatrick is one of the smartest QBs in the league. Lack of awareness is something that is not a concern with him. Denver was blitzing like crazy, sending 5 and 6 guys on almost every passing play, which probably caught the entire Bills offense off guard. Teams generally don't blitz like that in preseason and I think that Denver's blitzing was for the purpose of putting on a "show" for their fans. Fitzpatrick knows how to tip off players to when and where the blitz may come. He got his wakeup call and won't be a sitting duck next week.

I haven't noticed the awareness you're talking about. You'll have to give me some examples.

  11. If this team's management didn't pull the trigger on a Tebow trade (for a reasonable price), I would be pretty upset. The guy is a gamer no matter how you look at it. I watched him win games last season, and he doesn't make many mistakes. That guy is exactly what this team needs. Trade for him, let Thigpen go, and let Tebow sit on the bench for half the season and learn this offense. If Fitz hasn't proven to be a starter by mid-season, then we give Tebow the ball.

  12. Awareness before the ball is snapped.

This means a lot of things:

    - Is an OLB or CB cheating to blitz

    - Are your WR's uncovered or in a mismatch with a LB

    - Are the safeties cheating up giving your WR's the opportunity to get behind them

    - Should you use a hard count to draw speed rushers (ie: Von Miller) offsides, and not allow them to get a quick start every snap

I have yet to see Fitzpatrick do many of these things. And this seems to have been a problem with every QB we've had here in Buffalo since Flutie and Bledsoe were taking snaps for us. It's just common football sense that you need to have to be a successful Quarterback. It's what made guys like Jim Kelly and Brett Favre great instead of just good. I don't know whether we're not coaching it here, or if our guys just don't have what it takes. But this is one of the BIG things that need to change in order for Fitzpatrick and this offense to be successful.

  13. I think they do as well. But I have to wonder why a guy who finished 2nd in Iowa history at TE hasn't caught even a single pass yet in the NFL? It's odd.

If you think about it, he had to play behind Antonio Gates, Kevin Boss, and Jason Witten. So, I guess it was an uphill battle on each team he played on. It looks like Gailey's going to give him a chance. I'd love to see him step up!

  14. Yes, he has ability. He isn't the typical Bills over achieviing h-back type, he could be very good.

He also could be nothing. This can be said of a lot of Bills players. Too many. You just can't go into the season every year expecting 3-4 of these type of guys to emerge on both sides of the ball.

I think you are underselling his talent a bit, he can catch the ball and is a big target.

I think you're right on the money. Although tight end isn't one of the most important positions that I would be worried about, it would be nice to have some more sure fire talent out there at some other spots. We're really hoping that guys step up as starting NFL players, when they haven't proven to do so consistently in the past. Guys like Pears at right tackle, Urbik at right guard, and Wilson at safety. Then we've got some question marks with guys that have had previous injuries like Davis and Merriman at linebacker, and McGee at corner. I HOPE all of these guys step up. But that isn't good enough when we're facing the Pats, Jets, and Dolphins twice each every season.

  15. Height: 6'7"

    Weight: 270 lbs

    College: Iowa

Stats: In his last college season had 591 yards receiving with 6 TDs. Ranked 2nd in his schools history with 117 receptions for 1,467 yards and 10 touchdowns.

2007 Draft: Selected in the 4th round by the San Diego Chargers.

Check out his draft report from 2007. This guy has a lot more skill at tight end than anyone we've had on this roster in a while. He was the 4th ranked TE in his draft class (ranked ahead of Kevin Boss and Matt Spaeth, and just below Zach Miller and Greg Olsen), not unlike Shawne Nelson who was also the 4th ranked TE in his own draft class.

Now he hasn't done anything as a pro, but it will be interesting to see if Chan can turn this guys career around. Between him and Nelson, I hope either one of these guys shows at least a little bit of the potential they flashed coming out of college.
