Darnold sucked at USC under pressure. Go back and watch WSU game. He was awful.

He was a turnover machine his last year at USC. Kid is definitely an NFL starter, but was never the "safe" pick that everyone claimed he was.

Mayfield had that "it" factor in college and from what I saw today, he has the same "it" factor as a pro. He's just really accurate and processes the game at lightening speed. Kid was insanely good at Oklahoma and people tried to say he was a system QB. Not so at all. Kid can play.

Def. Im def jelous we didnt get Mayfield. He was my #1 QB pick ahead of Rosen.

I truly believe the story about the Browns having Mayfield #1 and Allen #2 on their board. Baker is more accurate than Allen, but the physical tools that our guy has are off the chart. Will be interesting to see how these guys progress over the next few years.

We have been through this.....you can count on one hand how many assignments Wyatt missed in pre season

You can also count on one hand the times Wyatt lost to his assignment in run blocking

Then you have the starters....who are getting DOMINATED

Teller was destroying guys in run blocking during that last preseason game. It's not a coincidence that we kept running left (with success) the second half of that game. Teller missed one pass blocking assignment that ended up in a sack and some folks are using that one play as evidence that he is no good. But, he was graded as the ACCs best pass blocking guard his last two seasons at Virginia Tech. (I'm admittedly biased on this matter since I'm a Tech season ticket holder!)

I would like to see them bring in another veteran.......teams wont even throw at Tre because they can pick on the other side of the D

Last year's nickel corner Leonard Johnson was cut by the Giants. We should at least have him in for a workout given we're down a corner and he knows the system. That's assuming he still wants to play, unlike Vontae Davis!

  5. I see my post last night ended up the topic of a new thread.   ?

Our free agent signings of a year ago played quite well for the most part (Poyer, Hyde, Holmes, Hauschka, DiMarco, etc.). This year's group (McCaron, Davis, Murphy, Lotulelei, Kerley, Bodine, etc.) seems to not be quite as impactful as last year's group (yet?). So, the main change to the pro personnel staff was Gaine out and Morgan in. Time will tell, but it seems we lost a good talent evaluator (as evidenced by Houston hiring him back as their GM). Two games in and McCaron, Davis, and Kerley aren't even on the roster. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement for our pro personnel staff.

  6. Our old VP of Player Personnel Brian Gaine left to become Houston's new GM this past off-season. Dan Morgan was hired as his replacement. IMHO, that switch might have made a difference to our pro scouting. Perhaps Morgan is not as good at evaluating pro personnel? (but he, of course, has the obligatory ties to Carolina like all of our hires).

  7. Tremaine has never played middle linebacker, so it'll take time for him to learn the position. Virginia Tech plays essentially a 4-2-5 scheme. Tremaine played the Backer position (not the Mike) and in Tech's scheme the Backer is more like a SAM linebacker in a pro 4-3. I know this because I've had season tickets at Tech for the past 2+ decades.

I don't disagree that he looks lost at times, but give the kid time to learn a new position. If he is still lost at the end of the season then I think he could easily be moved outside (either SAM or Will). He has the size and speed to play any one of the linebacker spots.

So, then why cut Adolphus Washington earlier in the week?  Did anybody even notice Nate Orchard on the field?

As best as I can tell, McBean seems to have some sort of "his guys" versus "my guys" thing going on with the departed Doug Whaley. All of our 2016 picks are off the roster with the exception of Shaq Lawson who was scratched today. Only John Miller remains from 2015. And everyone is gone from the 2014 draft. If I was a betting man I'd say it's only a matter of time before Lawson and Miller are gone.

I'm all for wanting "your guys" but it seems to me that McBean is obsessed with ridding the team of Whaley's picks.

  9. For those keeping score, here is Daboll's resume as an NFL offensive coordinator:

2009 Cleveland Browns: yards per game = 32nd of 32 teams, points per game = 29th

    2010 Cleveland Browns: ypg = 29th; ppg = 31st

    2011 Miami Dolphins: ypg = 22nd, ppg = 20th

    2012 Kansas City Chiefs: ypg = 24th, ppg = 32nd

...in all cases the same "his players weren't good" excuse can be made. But, at some point you have to show you can work with what you got.
