Good one!!
As a long time DB supporter and to this day, pro Drew, I reworked the XTC lyrics a few years back and posted it here. When I did that, it didn't get a very warm reception... Maybe now with all the anti-Drew sentiment it can be posted again?
Here it is: My original was lost, I reworked it best from memory.
"Dear Drew"
, hope you got the letter, and...
I pray you can make the Bills better over here.
I don't mean a big reduction in the price of beer
but all the fans that believed in you, see
them starving on their feet 'cause they don't get
enough SuperBowl wins from Drew, I can't believe in you
Dear Drew, sorry to disturb you, but... I feel that I should be heard
loud and clear. We all need a big reduction in amount of tears
and all the fans that believed in you, see them fighting
on The Stadium Wall 'cause they can't make opinions meet about Drew,
I can't believe in you
Did you make Tom Brady, and the Patriots blue? Did you make
fans respect you after the Tuna made you? And Mo Lewis hit you too!
, don't know if you noticed, but... your name is on
a lot of stats in the record book, and us crazy fans think it is true, you
should take a look, and all the fans that believe in you
still think that junk is true. Well I know it ain't, and
so do you, dear Drew, I can't believe in I don't believe in
I won't believe in SuperBowl heaven and last place hell. No saviors, no MVPs, no
Belichick as well. No hall of fames, no championship crown. You're always
letting us fans down. The intercetions you throw, the sacks you
down. Those receivers lost in the secondary and never found, and it's the same the
whole NFL 'round. The hurt I see helps to compound that
Drew at quarterback is just somebody's unholy hoax,
and if you're up in Montana you'd perceive that my heart's here upon
my sleeve. If there's one thing I don't believe in
it's you....

That's NUTS!

I was 12 years old and remember it well.
On a side note?
Lake placid wasn't the first choice to host the winter games that year? Is that correct? Some other city backed out right? What was that city?
I might not be correct but, I heard that somewhere.
LP, being such a small venue has got to be great to host the games. You probably never see a games in such a small venue again! Quite a shame!
Then again, LP is on the back up list in a pinch!

Valid point.
So a waterskier isn't an athlete?
What about extreme surfers? They need jetskis or boats to "tow-in" to the big wave. With out the mechanized vehicle, surfing huge waves would be impossible since they would never be able to "catch" up with it?
What about sky-divers? Free-fallers?
In rock climbing, only "free" climbing classifies you as an athelete? Okay, okay, ropes aren't machines, sorry.
???

I don't think there will ever be a clear cut answer to this, but it's fun to debate from time to time. Some could argue (with some validity) that right fielders aren't much of an athlete. I mean, say they get 1 ball hit to them and strike out twice, walk twice and pop out? They moved a total of what? 30 feet the whole game? That's not very athletic.
Exactly!
-
A thing I thought about eariler. If NASCAR drivers are athletes based mainly on the endurance factor, what about drag racers? They are doing the same thing - driving a car fast (in this case ever faster) and competing for a prize, however, in this case, its only for a matter of seconds.
If a guy makes 30k in 30 seconds trading on the internet verses the guy making 30k a year digging ditches. Which one worked? I think it is the same argument.
Work smart not hard?
Again, I just see the correlation between being a "worker" and the "athelete".
Sorry if I am beating a dead horse.
Does it require stamina?
We are starting to cross that line into poker and checker playing now Steve. Things are getting gray!
-
You don't think a racecar driver loses weight during competition?
So then a white collar person really doesn't work then?
With what you said, I only threw that out because I can make a correlation between a blue collar person and a white collar person when it comes to accomplishing work.
This is by no means an attempt to derail the topic. Not meant to get heated, either.
-
Yes, I guess so? At least for the duration of the competition. Being an athlete is not an elitist construct.
I have never watched it but, it would seem that Survivor and stuff like that might be a true break form the traditional top-heavy, athletic elite sports.
The definition says nowhere that you have to dedicate your life to the athletic endeavour.
-
Driving for 3 hours straight at 200 mph... It must be real easy holding that wheel like you are cruising in your Coupe De'Ville on a Sunday afternoon?
How much athletic energy does it take to fight that wheel for 3 hours?
They are all athletes, just as the person sitting behind a desk and the person digging a ditch is attempting to accomplish WORK.
They are just using different athletic skills.
Main Entry: ath·lete
Pronunciation: 'ath-"lEt, ÷'a-th&-"lEt
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin athleta, from Greek athlEtEs, from athlein to contend for a prize, from athlon prize, contest
: a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina
No matter what you say. The physical strength needed to control the car, agility to preform at around 200 mph, and the stamina to do it for 3 hours straight (ocassional 30 second pit stops) CAN'T be taught (at that level) to everyone.

I noticed that too. I just didn't want to come off as whining too much.
Could be Buffalo, TX?
It is not. I caught it somewhere else that is our "beloved" Buffalo.
It just struck me as sacrilege that a Fins jersey was painted on!
At least "wear" your hometown jersey!
Anyway, no big deal. Just a little funny!
-
-
Why do some here consider NASCAR drivers not athletes? It is not like they can be 300 lb. "top of the pyramid" eaters. The mental stamina needed is great, not to mention quick reflexes and athletic ability meeded to control the racecar.
It is harder than you think to wheel one of those cars through a turn?
It isn't like they are taking the family "Taurus" out for a spin st 170 mph?

Anybody catch the new SI swimsuit issue?
Jessica White, from Buffalo, New York is one of the featured models!
The thing that begs to be asked is:
In the layout where the models have team uniforms "painted" on them... Why in the heck is JW "wearing" a number 54 (Zach Thomas) FINS JERSEY!
Hailing from Buffalo, isn't that blasphemy?
Is she an "item" with ZT? That is the only thing that would explain it.
Not that I am complaining. But, a freaking Fins jersey?!
Sorry no link...

Your accusations of Donahoe don't make sense to me because there's basically no room for obfuscation of truth in this story... bottomline, did Drew disobey the coaches on the coin flip, yes or no? Did Pitt get the ball AND the wind, yes or no? Pretty cut and dry issues, don't you think?
If Drew's insubordination on the coinflip were a Donahoe lie, as you suggest, it would have to be a lie that's endorsed by the coaching staff as well since they are obviously major players in the incident described. Somehow I just don't believe our entire team's management is out to slander Drew.
I'm taking things at face value in this case. Drew is a cocky POS who has committed insubordination and worn out his welcome with two coaching staffs and two cities. And he's a sh------- player, to boot.
I don't think he implied it to be a lie. When I read Sound_n_Fury's reply, I thought he was bringing into question the source of the information floated out there?
??Maybe I am wrong??
Your take has served the exact purpose. In any case, there is no need to lie, just dish the truth. But why?
??

Yes. Yes it is a sport.
Didn't Hemmingway say?:
"There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games."

The Bills do play in NO next year. I hope it is a good college "homecoming" for JPL in the SuperDome!
-
Once again let me set the record straight. He was injured in camp because you had an experienced vet who thought he would take matters into his own hands and teach the rookie a lesson.
The training camp rule is....
You cannot hit the players with the red jerseys on
NOT
You cannot hit the players with the red jerseys on, unless they are cocky and need to be taught a lesson.
PS A career rating of 35 based on what....5 passes? Did you steal this great justification from Oneida Lake? Give me a break.
I hope JPL learned his "lesson". I really hope so. All signals point to that?

Sleep Apnea is also a major cause of strokes. My father had one because of this. His doctor told me a shocking statistic, men with necks 18 inches or larger have a very high chance of having sleep apnea...which if not taken care of can lead to a stroke. This is also what caused Reggie Whites stroke that killed him.
Wow... Never knew that!
What about TKO, he's got one monster neck?
-
Nobody (at least me) is bashing him. The NFL is daunting and littered with failure.
I hope he succeeds, the odds are going to be against him. I pray he can pull it off.
IMHO, I don't like the odds. I am not a gambling person. I am not afraid to take chances either, just bets with slightly better odds.
Again, just my opinion.

I expect TD to pull off somekind of coup this offseason at QB to quell the queezy feeling me and all the other DB lovers are feeling!
Without it, how can Hollywood Donahue keep that screen name?
Could it be "Saving Face Donahue?"
-
I'm on board with this as well. The Pats 'greatness' is their discipline and commitment. Fiedler/Feely, Pennington and Bledsoe's pocket play, played right into these strengths. Losman can and will break pocket, get outside and force the D to scramble and breakdown. Vick/Atlanta play NE next year too. Bellichek (a jike with the wrong personnel in Cleveland) is studious, but we haven't seen them be willing to drop their commitments, and this intangible may well become their undoing.
Call me a 'half full glass' kind of guy, but I really think the Bills can win the Division next year!
NE switched their whole freaking D around to keep McNabb in check! All this in under two weeks! To a D that they haven't run since the preseason and one the players were a little uncomfortable at first going to!
Seems Crennel held McNabb pretty well... Oh well, at least Romeo is "void" for next year.
-
I only hope so!
You think they cloned the "California" out of Losman and plugged in Farve's "down home" Louisanna? Then again, JP did play in NO at Tulane?
Anyway, I heard E$PN pronounce it as 'LOWS MAN' which I prefer better than 'LOSS MAN.'
BTW, how do you pronounce it properly?

Wouldn't that be ironic, after 40 years, Buffalo finally brings home a major professional championship and it is done with scabs?
