Good clip. Thanks for going and bringing that voice. Remember yelling is good but use your feet to create the noise of 10 Buffalo fans. Also sneak in some extra noise makers. We need it to be loud AF for Lamar. The game will be won in the 1st Qtr if we can get out to a big league.

I used my feet and my hands on the bleachers for much of the game. I didn't realize how much noise banging on the metal seats actually makes.

I said it to myself. But yeah we were all thinking that.

What are your views currently? For some reason I can't see it on my playback. I read your comment early in the day that it was already 13k...well done.

I'm glad you like it. I think I'm over 30k views now.

Thanks for sharing Mike ... love the fans beating on the seats ... for this week, less dramatic, just the celebration at the end of a blowout 😁

I hope you're right. Blowing the Ravens out would be awesome and give our hearts a break.

Great shot in that it looks like Hyde was going to camp out in the back of the end zone, read the ball, and came in and made the play.  Thanks again.

Thanks. Yeah you're right. Hyde was ready for it this time.

"Bob" just called into WGR-550 and mentioned that he and his buddies were slapping empty seats against Indy.

The aluminum seats vibrating create tremendous noise; Bob says it's like 100 people shouting as loud as they can.

He said several times Rivers had to walk up to the center because he couldn't communicate over the noise.

Bob implores all Bills fans to slap those empty stands on Saturday.

I thought I'd try to extend the length of his reach by posting here.

SLAP THOSE SEATS!  MAKE SOME NOISE!

    5f70b5b5b9820.image.jpg?resize=1200,800

Yes! This. So many of us in the endzone were doing it. I hurt my hands from hitting it so hard. My buddy was stomping his feet on the row in front. They had two empty rows in front of us. It made so much freaking noise. And then mix in yelling and screaming too.

    1 hour ago, Albany,n.y. said:

I personally can't stand it when people in the row behind me bang on the seats in my row.  If they want to pound on a seat, they should pound on their own damn seat.

Now if the row is totally empty in front of them, like a lot of seats are with the limited capacity, they can pound away, but otherwise they are vibrating the fans in front of them and I doubt too many people want their @sses vibrated while trying to watch a football game.

They close out two rows between every open row in the endzone.

  6. Great job as always, I did notice E.J. really brings the ball down low,to make his throws. This would make his throwing motion longer, taking more time. Glad to see he had a good day. He was against the # 2s and 3 s ?. I know your probably not a Bryce fan ,but was he running against the ones ?Seems like he ran the middle a lot.like to see him go outside some. Great pics and great job reporting. Lucky to have someone like you here.

Thanks! Yeah I'll have to keep an eye on that. But he does seem to take more time. He was against the 1s once, but he was against the backups and third stringers the other times.

I like Bryce Brown. He's been doing a good job running too. I like the speed he displays. But you are right, he needs to do more running to the outside.

  7. Question for the commenters, respectfully.

What is the difference between this guys post with a link, that the one last week that got flamed?

Is it that he posted the content, with the link at the bottom?

I thought the guy last week was getting unfair backlash from posting his link/article.

I've been doing it for years and I post the entire article. I usually throw the link at the bottom. But that's never been a big deal because I post the whole article.

It was Day 6 of Buffalo Bills at St. John Fisher College. The players practiced in full pads again with some limited contact. The team worked on several different drills. As always they start out with their individual drills and 1-on-1's. But the team also spent extra time working on the 11-on-11, doing some 2-minute drills and red zone offense. The special teams focused on punting and punt coverage for the day.

I'm going to jump ahead to the 11-on-11 drill. Both EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel started out with the starters. LeSean McCoy was back on the field and started right off with a run up the middle for 4-yards. EJ Manuel then threw a pass to Justin Brown for 16-yards. On the next play, Manuel dumped the ball off to McCoy for 12-yards. Fred Jackson then ran the ball around the left tackle for 8-yards. Matt Cassel then came in and threw a screen to Jerome Felton for 5-yards. On the next play, Bryce Brown was stuffed by Alex Carrington. He then ran up the middle for 3-yards. McCoy then ran behind the right guard for 6-yards. He then took the ball on the next play and took the ball to the outside, showing off his speed and he gained 20-yards. He might've gained even more than that. Tyrod Taylor then had his first pass attempt and overthrew Sammy Watkins.

Following the 11-on-11 drills, the lines went over to the other field while the offense worked on some 1-on-1's. I didn't take a play by play, I was taking photos. But I took a few notes down. On the negative side, both Matt Cassel and EJ Manuel were intercepted. The interesting thing is that both plays were intended for Deonte Thompson. Cassel was intercepted by Nickell Roby, while Manuel was intercepted by Ron Brooks. Both of the defensive backs made great plays on the ball and ripped it out of Thompson's hands. The other two things I noticed were two beautiful passes by EJ Manuel. He started out with a pretty looking 50-yard touchdown pass to Chris Hogan. He later threw a nice 50-yard bomb to Andre Davis.

Next up, the linemen came back onto the field and the team went right back to work on the 11-on-11 drills. The starting offense worked against the backup defense. Matt Cassel started it out by throwing the ball at Robert Woods' feet. EJ Manuel then threw a screen pass to Charles Clay for 6-yards. Cassel came back in and threw a screen to Robert Woods, who was popped by new Bills CB Merrill Noel. Manuel then dumped the ball off to LeSean McCoy for 9-yards. On the next play, McCoy went out wide and caught a screen from Cassel for 4-yards. Fred Jackson then came in and ran around the left tackle for 10-yards. Cassel then threw a 5-yard pass to Chris Hogan. Manuel then threw an 11-yard pass to Hogan. Cassel came back in and threw a screen to McCoy for 8-yards. On the final play of the drill, EJ Manuel was pressured by the defense, but avoided the rush and got the ball out to Robert Woods for 13-yards.

Next up, the 2-minute drill. Each group was given 1:50 to go 70 yards. Matt Cassel started out with the starters and threw a nice pass to LeSean McCoy, but it appeared to be negated by a penalty. On the next play, Cassel threw a pass to Chris Hogan for 5-yards. He then connected with LeSean McCoy for 7-yards. On the next play, Cassel threw an 8-yard pass to Robert Woods, which gave him a 1st down. He then threw at Woods' back. McCoy then ran up the middle for 3-yards. On the next play, the defense took a 12-men on the field penalty and you heard a coach screaming at them. There was 14-seconds left on the clock and they were in field goal range. Cassel then threw the ball away because no one was open. On the final play of the drive, Cassel would've been sacked by Mario Williams, but he threw it away again.

Next up, Tyrod Taylor worked with the backups. He started it out with a 3-yard pass to Bryce Brown. On the next play, Taylor threw an ugly pass that was almost picked off by Mario Butler, but he couldn't hold on. Taylor then threw a 4-yard pass to Chris Gragg. On 4th down, Taylor threw another pass to Gragg for 5-yards which gave them a 1st down. Brown then carried the ball and ran around the left tackle for 7-yards. On the next play, Tyrod Taylor threw a nice pass to Gragg about 25-yards down the field. He then threw the ball away to save time on the clock. Taylor then threw a pass to Bryce Brown for 6-yards, who didn't get out of bounds, so the clock kept ticking. But they had enough time and would've kicked a field goal.

EJ Manuel worked out with the third team unit. Karlos Williams started it off by running up the middle for 8-yards. EJ Manuel then threw a 7-yard pass to Dezmin Lewis. On the next play, Manuel threw a nice pass to Chris Hogan deep, but he tripped on his own feet. Manuel then connected with Andre Davis for 5-yards. On the next play, Manuel would've been sacked by Alex Carrington. Manuel then threw a 7-yard pass to Karlos Williams. For 4th down, EJ Manuel took a timeout. Then he threw a nice strike to Justin Brown for 5-yards and the 1st down. On the final play of the drill, EJ Manuel threw a beautiful 41-yard touchdown pass to Andre Davis with only 24-seconds left on the clock.

Following the 2 minute drill, the team went back to work on special teams. They spent time punting the ball and working on their punt coverage team. Colton Schmidt showed off his leg with several beautiful punts. He was kicking them long, high and far. I was impressed with how much hang time his punts had. I counted about 6-8 seconds of hang time. He also had good distance on them and punted them about 50-60 yards down the field. He also had one that was over 50-yards and he did a coffin corner kick that went out of bounds inside the 5-yard line.

After the special teams drills, the team came right back to work on more 11-on-11 drills. LeSean McCoy started it out by showing off his burst as he flew around the left tackle for 15-yards. Matt Cassel then threw a 6-yard pass to Bryce Brown. He then connected with Marquise Goodwin for 12-yards. Cassel then overthrew Percy Harvin. On the next play, Cassel spotted Robert Woods who burned Rod Sweeting badly and hit him for a long touchdown. The backups came onto the field and Karlos Williams ran up the middle for 4-yards. He then ran around the left tackle for 5-yards until he was hit by Jimmy Gaines. On the next play, EJ Manuel floated a pass to Charles Clay that was intercepted by Kenny Ladler. Karlos Williams then ran up the middle for 3-yards until he was stopped by Jimmy Gaines. Bryce Brown then ran up the middle for 6-yards. Manuel then threw a pass to Chris Gragg for 16-yards. Brown then ran up the middle and only gained 2-yards after Stephon Gilmore tackled him. Tyrod Taylor came in next and threw a 15-yard pass to Robert Woods. On the next play, Taylor was pressure by Corbin Bryant, so he took the ball and ran up the middle for 13-yards. Karlos Williams was then stuffed at the line of scrimmage. On the next play, Williams was tackled behind the line by Randell Johnson. Taylor then overthrew Justin Brown. He then hit Marqueis Gray for 11-yards. On the final play of the series, McCoy ran up the middle for 5-yards.

For the final drill of the day, the team worked on red zone 11-on-11. I paid attention to EJ Manuel who was working with the backups and Matt Cassel who was with the starters. EJ Manuel started it out with a QB keeper and ran up the middle for 10-yards. Matt Cassel then threw the ball behind Percy Harvin. Bryce Brown then ran up the middle for 3-yards. EJ Manuel then connected with Karlos Williams for a 7-yard touchdown. On the other side, McCoy was stuffed at the line by the defense. Manuel then threw a 5-yard touchdown to Justin Brown. On the final play of that drill, Karlos Williams ran up the middle for a 5-yard touchdown.

    Extra Points:

    1. EJ Manuel won the day. He had several great passes and his 2-minute drill was the only one that resulted in a touchdown. Sure he had the interception, but he did a great job moving around in the pocket and showed quick decisions. I have noticed a big difference from him today compared to the other days. Hopefully he can keep getting better.

    2. On the other hand, Matt Cassel was terrible. I thought he had his worst day yet. He was off on several passes in the individual drills and the 1-on-1's. He was underthrowing and overthrowing several times and just didn't look good. His deep ball is by far the worst of the 3 quarterbacks.

    3. LeSean McCoy was back and he embarrassed the backups. He was running past the other players like they weren't even there. I love watching him used in screens. He has the speed and in space, he'll break many of those long runs.

    4. Nickell Roby was a player that caught my eye. He was all over the place. He had that interception in the 1-on-1's where he literally ripped the ball out of Deonte Thompson's hands. He also broke up a few passes and showed good coverage in the 11-on-11 drills.

    5. I noticed Jimmy Gaines a few times and he was right in the play several times. I'm interested to see him more when the real tackling begins.

    6. Colton Schmidt is fun to watch. His punts were all longer than 50-yards and he had excellent hang time on them. I was also impressed by his coffin corner kicks. Hopefully we see a bunch of those during the season.

Overall, it was another good day at St. John Fisher College. The weather was gorgeous again. The stands were packed were people and the action on the field was entertaining. I loved seeing the offense step it up today. Hopefully they can keep getting better. Tomorrow brings live tackling to the mix. Can't wait for that one!

  9. Buffalo Bills Training Camp Gallery - Saturday, August 1, 2015

It was Day 2 of Buffalo Bills at St. John Fisher College. With Rex Ryan as head coach and LeSean McCoy as the starting running back, things are definitely more interesting. There's a lot of buzz around the area as the fans cheer for Sammy Watkins big catches and watch in awe as McCoy shows off his elusive style. As usual, the team started out with their stretching and then individual work, they also did some special teams drills and 7-on-7s. But for the 11-on-11 drills, Rex Ryan does things a little different than his predecessor. Instead of having all 4 quarterbacks take reps on the same part of the field, he separates them. Two quarterbacks work with the starting unit and the other two work with the backup or 3rd string unit. Today it was EJ Manuel's turn to share starting reps with Matt Cassel.

Some of the players came out of the tunnel a little early, but by 10:00 AM, all of them were on the field and stretching. The players then separated as the linemen and some other defensive players jogged over to the second grass field, while the special teams unit worked on kickoff returns and coverage. There were 2 kick "returners" that caught the ball from the jugs machine (Marcus Thigpen and Tobias Palmer). Thigpen did a good job catching them, except for one bobble and showed his speed returning them up the field a bit, but Palmer fumbled one of his. Following the special teams drills, the rest of the defense left to head to the second field to work on individual drills. The offense stayed behind and the QBs worked on handing off the ball to the running backs, while the receivers worked on their routes. After a while, the quarterbacks came together with the receivers and had the DBs defending them as they worked 1-on-1.

During the 1-on-1 drills, the plays are coming out very quickly. I noted a few things that caught my eye during the 1-on-1's. Ronald Darby make a nice pass breakup on a pass from Matt Cassel to Robert Woods. Tyrod Taylor overthrew Marquise Goodwin and he also threw a ball to Chris Hogan that was intercepted by Ross Cockrell. Cassel also threw a beautiful 50 yard pass to Goodwin, but he dropped it. EJ Manuel threw a pretty looking 50-yard touchdown to Robert Woods that was right where it needed to be and got a loud ovation. Manuel also threw a nice pass to Chris Hogan and it looked like he caught it, but the refs ruled it incomplete. Marcus Easley also dropped one of Cassel's passes.

Following the 1-on-1's, the team went to work on the 11-on-11 drills. I watched the side of the field with the starters that both Matt Cassel and EJ Manuel ran with. Matt Cassel started it off with a pass to Sammy Watkins, but Ronald Darby was all over him and it would've been a penalty. LeSean McCoy then got the ball and exploded up the middle for 9-yards. Cassel then overthrew Percy Harvin and followed that with a screen to Matthew Mulligan for 4-yards. Boobie Dixon got the ball next and ran behind the left tackle for 6-yards. EJ Manuel was next up and overthrew Harvin. He then went back to Harvin, but he dropped the ball. On the next play, EJ threw a bullet to Sammy Watkins, who couldn't hold on. The ball was thrown way too hard. Manuel then continued his terrible run by overthrowing Chris Hogan. On the final play of the drill, Manuel tried connecting with Marquise Goodwin, but Ronald Darby had great coverage on him.

After the horn sounded, the lines left the one field as other players got to work on the 7-on-7 passing drills. EJ Manuel started it off with a pass to Chris Hogan for 4-yards. He then gunned the ball to Fred Jackson, who couldn't quite hold on. EJ needed a little bit more touch there. On the next play, EJ threw a terrible pass towards Chris Gragg that was nowhere near him. I don't know if it was a miscommunication or what. Matt Cassel came onto the field next and immediately connected with Robert Woods for 12-yards. He then threw a 9-yard pass to Gragg. On the next play, Cassel threw it away after he went thru his reads. Cassel finished the drive off by dumping the ball off to Fred Jackson who ran about 5-yards. Manuel came back and connected with Robert Woods for 5-yards. He then overthrew Sammy Watkins. Manuel then found Woods for 8-yards. On the final play of the drive, EJ found Deonte Thompson for 7-yards. Cassel came back in and connected with Percy Harvin for 12-yards. He then found LeSean McCoy who was popped by Preston Brown after a 5-yard gain. On the next play, Cassel hit Woods for 15-yards. He then finished the drive off with a 12-yard pass to Harvin. The horn then sounded and the team went back to work on special teams drills again. This time, Marcus Thigpen was joined by Robert Woods and Fred Jackson as a kickoff catcher.

Following the special teams drills, the team came together for more 11-on-11. This time, the team didn't split up on two sides of the field and Tyrod Taylor worked with the starters. LeSean McCoy started it off with a 8-yard run behind the left tackle. Tyrod Taylor then underthrew Marquise Goodwin. On the next play, McCoy ran up the middle for 6-yards. Taylor finished the drive off with a pass to Marcus Easley for 4-yards. Matt Cassel was next and connected with Robert Woods for 13-yards. Jerome Felton then took a screen from Cassel and gained 7-yards. Bryce Brown then ran behind the left guard for 3-yards. On the next play, Cassel thought he had Marquise Goodwin open, but Rob Sweeting most likely would have been flagged. He had his back to the play. EJ Manuel came in and found Chris Gragg, but Kenny Ladler fell on him and broke it up. Manuel then connected with Karlos Williams for 5-yards. He then hit Deonte Thompson for 6-yards. On the next play, LeSean McCoy ran around the left tackle for 11-yards, making a nice juke to get around Corey Graham. Matt Simms then came in and overthrew Thompson. Boobie Dixon then burst up the middle for 9-yards. On the final play of the drive, Simms hit Fred Jackson for 5-yards. Tyrod Taylor came in and threw a screen to Bryce Brown, who made a nice run to gain 14-yards. On the next play, Taylor hit Harvin for 20-yards. On the final play of the series, Taylor showed off his feet and scrambled for 8-yards. Matt Cassel was next and connected with Percy Harvin for 13-yards and then followed that with a 15-yard pass to Harvin. LeSean McCoy then took a screen from EJ Manuel and gained 8-yards. On the next play, Manuel tucked the ball and ran for 10-yards. Matt Simms came back and thought he had Karlos Williams, but he dropped it. On the final play of the day, Simms underthrew Deonte Thompson.

    Extra Points:

    1. I know it's only the 2nd practice, but this quarterback competition is not exciting at all. It's actually terrifying. There's a lot of mediocre play out there. EJ Manuel looked horrible for most of the day and his first 11-on-11 drills, he was 0-5. He recovered a little bit later on, but his throws were still pretty awful. He's lacking touch on the shorter passes and keeps gunning them at his receivers for some reason. I love his deep ball and feel he might be the best QB with that. But his short passes need work badly.

    2. As for Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor, I'm not impressed with them either. Cassel gets the ball out pretty quick, but he was off target a bunch of times. I hate his deep ball. It kinda reminds me of Fitzpatrick. And Tyrod Taylor had some JP Losman in him....he'll sling it out there sometimes, but other times he just likes to run around in the pocket and makes bad throws.

    3. On the positive side, LeSean McCoy is a beast! I've always liked him when he was on the Eagles, but it's going to fun to watch him make those highlight reel runs for my team for a change. He has such an explosive second gear and showed off some nifty footwork several times, juking the defensive players, including one where he made a cut and Corey Graham lost him.

    4. I'm sure many people have been reporting it, but Ronald Darby may be the steal of the draft. He's holding his own against Robert Woods and Sammy Watkins and has been making several pass breakups. I could see him making it easier to release Leodis McKelvin. I would not be surprised at all if he starts.

    5. The offensive line is interesting to me. They have been doing a very good job run blocking and making some holes for the running backs, but the pass blocking looks pretty bad right now. I'm hoping it's just because they are going against one of the top defensive lines in the league, but I will definitely be keeping an eye on it.

    6. For the second day in a row, both Terry and Kim Pegula were at St John Fisher. They look like they are enjoying being on the sidelines and watching their newest investment and see how it develops and grows. Both of them have been interacting with fans and Kim has been regularly chatting with them and even taking selfies with some lucky fans. It's nice to see how down to Earth they are. Ralph would be proud.

Overall, it was a good day at St. John Fisher College. The weather was gorgeous, as most summers are in Western NY and there was even a nice breeze to go with the hot sun. The action on the field was enjoyable to watch and the crowd seemed to have a good time. It's great to have football back. But I'll be honest, I'm mainly looking forward to next week when the pads come on. That's when the real fun begins.

  10. Outstanding stuff!! Thank you! Sounds like sammy is doing exactly what the bills drafted him to do. Finding a way to catch everything, perfect pass or not.

Thanks! Yeah, Sammy is the best player we've had in a long time. I already have a man crush on Sammy.

Thanks for posting! I was there last night. Did an in-depth look at how I think Manuel has progressed here:

    http://forums.twobil...p-review-of-ej/

Sammy was truly impressive. He glides across the field effortlessly.

I also thought Dareus looked like him old self.

Surprise of the night? Tori Gurley. I thought he looked very good.

Nice post. I didn't notice that about EJ's throwing motion. I'll have to watch him more. Gurley made some nice catches, but he's so far down the depth chart.

Btw, this is one big reason the ravens made their playoff run. Anquan boldin bailing out flacco. And sammy is a very rich man's boldin due to speed and freak skill.

    Great point!

    Photo087b_zpsbcc25c4d.jpg

It was the 5th day of Buffalo Bills Training Camp at St. John Fisher College. On other hand, it was only the first day of camp for Marcell Dareus who passed his physical and was ready to go. He came out fired up, cheering on his teammates and high fiving them when they made good plays. Head Coach Doug Marrone had the team work on their individual drills, focusing on certain fundamentals, 1-on-1 passing drills, 9-on-9 drills, 11-on-11 drills and even did some 7-on-7 work in the red zone. The team also took time out to work on special teams, particularly kickoffs and field goals.

As always, the team spent about 20 minutes on their individual drills and then stretching. Then they did some 1-on-1 drills. I took some notes from the plays that stood out to me. Scott Chandler made a great catch in the middle of the field for a 15-yard gain on a pass from EJ Manuel. Jeff Tuel continued to impress me with his deep balls when he floated a pass downfield to Mike Williams who caught it in stride for about 40-yards. EJ Manuel then threw a beautiful touch pass to Marcus Easley that he took for the 50-yard touchdown. He then threw a pass to Chris Summers who caught it, but Ross Cockrell knocked it out of his hands. Thad Lewis then threw an ugly pass that was intercepted by Corey Graham. Tuel then threw a pass to Tori Gurley who made a nice catch along the sideline. Thad Lewis then came in and recovered for his earlier interception by throwing a pretty looking 50-yard touchdown pass to TJ Graham. But the one catch that impressed me the most was Sammy Watkins. He stopped on a dime and faked the DB, caught the pass and kept running. The crowd gave him a big cheer for it.

Following the 1-on-1's, the team actually skipped the 7-on-7 drill and went right into the 11-on-11. EJ Manuel started right off the bat by finding Sammy Watkins who made a nice leaping grab on a deep ball and gained about 45-yards. CJ Spiller then got his chance and ran up the middle for 2-yards. The defense was stout in the middle. He then tried again and only gained a few yards. EJ Manuel then had no one open and felt the pressure, so he tucked the ball and ran with it for a gain of 12. Anthony Dixon came in next and pounded right up the middle for 7-yards. Jeff Tuel came in for the backup reps and handed it off to Dixon who gained 5-yards. Tuel then threw a nice screen to Marquise Goodwin who gained 9-yards. He then kept the ball and ran for a short gain. Tuel then threw a pass to an open receiver, but Duke Williams got his hand on the ball and broke it up. On the final play of the series, Ronnie Wingo got the ball and ran around the right tackle for 6-yards. EJ Manuel came back in and hit Robert Woods for 8-yards. Fred Jackson then got his first carry and ran to the outside and gained 4-yards. He tried again and this time took the ball around the right tackle for 10-yards. EJ Manuel finished the series off with a pass to Sammy Watkins, but Michael Carter held him so the ball went incomplete. He knew he got beat, so he grabbed his jersey and drew the penalty and angered his coach. Thad Lewis then came in and overthrew TJ Graham. Bryce Brown got the ball next, but he was stopped for a short loss for Brandon Spikes. He then tried again and gained about 2-yards. Lewis then threw a pass to Marcus Easley for 16-yards. On the final play of the series, Thad Lewis scrambles for 3-yards after feeling the pressure.

The horn then blew and it was time for some special teams drills. They worked on kickoffs and this time both Dan Carpenter and Dustin Hopkins were kicking the ball. Hopkins was consistently crushing the ball, 70-75 yards down the field and out of the end zone or into the back corner of the end zone. Carpenter had a couple decent ones, but there was a noticeable difference as he was kicking to the 5-yard line. On the positive side, his kickoffs allowed the returners to have a chance to practice. Marquise Goodwin, CJ Spiller and Sammy Watkins all got a chance to return kicks and Goodwin was the best. He exploded out of the end zone several times on his returns.

Following the special teams drills, the team worked on 9-on-9 passing drills. EJ Manuel started it right off with a pass to his favorite receiver, Sammy Watkins for 5-yards. On the next play, Manuel would have been sacked by Marcell Dareus who was roaming in the backfield. He then overthrew Robert Woods. Thad Lewis came in and threw a pass to Marcus Easley in the middle of the field for 8-yards. He then dumped the ball off to Ronnie Wingo for 6-yards. On the final play of the series, Lewis threw an 8-yard pass to CJ Spiller. Dennis Dixon then came in and connected with Tori Gurley for 7-yards and 6-yards. EJ Manuel came back on the field and threw at Frank Summer's feet. He then threw a screen to Bryce Brown for 3-yards. On the final play of the series, Manuel connected with Watkins for 16-yards. Jeff Tuel came in next and threw a pass to Caleb Holley, but the ball was deflected in the air and Kamaal McIlwain made a great play and intercepted it. Tuel then dumped the ball off to Anthony Dixon who was met instantly and wrapped up by Ross Cockrell. On the next play, Tuel would have been sacked by newly signed Landon Cohen.

After the 9-on-9 drill was over, the team went to work on more 11-on-11. EJ Manuel started it off by overthrowing Sammy Watkins. He then went right back to Watkins for 5-yards. On the next play, Manuel threw an pass that was deflected by Keith Rivers and intercepted by Nickell Robey. Bryce Brown then ran up the middle for 7-yards. Anthony Dixon got the ball next and ran up the middle for a short gain. On the next play, Jeff Tuel felt some pressure and probably would have been sacked from the defensive line, including Landon Cohen. Tuel then threw a pass to Marcus Easley, who made a nice leaping grab and gained 8-yards. He followed that with a pass to Anthony Dixon for 13-yards. Ronnie Wingo then carried the ball and ran around the right side for 3-yards. On the next play, Tuel was chased out of the pocket by Jacquies Smith and ran for a short gain. EJ Manuel came back in and felt major pressure from Jimmy Gaines, so he threw it away. Manuel then dumped the ball off to Fred Jackson for 2-yards. On the next play, Manuel found Frank Summers, who dropped the ball and also the f-bomb. EJ Manuel then kept the ball and gained 4-yards. On the final play of the drill, Manuel found Scott Chandler for a nice 28-yard gain.

Back to special teams work. The team uses this time to also give their players a little breather for 5-minutes or so while they explain the blocking assignments and get ready for field goal practice. Dan Carpenter was again perfect on all his field goals, 6-6 with a long of 51-yards. He also kicked several of them way up onto the lift where the camera man is filming. The crowd enjoyed it, but something tells me that camera man did not. Following the field goals, the team spent time on kickoff coverage and blocking assignments. The coaches had the kick returners receive kicks from the jugs machine, while the kickers rested their foot after making several kickoffs earlier in practice.

Following the special teams drill, the team went back to work on 11-on-11. CJ Spiller started it off with a nice run around the right tackle for 6-yards. On the next play, EJ Manuel had no one open, so he ran with the ball for 5-yards. Spiller got another carry and this time was met behind the line by Jerry Hughes. Manuel then tried another pass, but this time had his pass batted down by Mario Williams. On the next play, Mario Williams flew into the backfield and would have had the sack. Thad Lewis entered the field and connected with Chris Hogan, who was hit immediately by Jonathan Meeks for a short gain. On the next play, Lewis thought he had Bryce Brown open, but almost had the ball picked off by Mario Butler. He then tried another pass, but had a lot of pressure coming from Landon Cohen and threw it away. EJ Manuel then came back in and tried a fake handoff, but it was sniffed out immediately by Manny Lawson for a short loss. Bryce Brown then ran up the middle for 2-yards. On the next play, Fred Jackson looked like he was going to be stopped behind the line, but he made a nice cut and gained 8-yards. EJ Manuel then thought he had Sammy Watkins for a big gain, but Ross Cockrell knocked the ball loose to force the incompletion. Fred Jackson then pounded the ball up the middle for 8-yards. Dennis Dixon came onto the field and threw a screen to Caleb Holley, who was tackled at the line by Ross Cockrell for no gain. Ronnie Wingo got the ball next, but was stopped behind the line by Nigel Bradham. Dixon then threw a pass to TJ Graham for 6-yards and was immediately wrapped up by Derek Brim. He then threw a screen to Wingo for 5-yards. On the final play of the series, Ronnie Wingo ran around the left tackle for 7-yards.

EJ Manuel returned the field and connected with Scott Chandler for 9-yards, while facing some nice pressure from Jerry Hughes. CJ Spiller then ran up the middle for 4-yards. On the next play, Manuel threw a 7-yard pass to Robert Woods who was hit hard by Da'Norris Searcy. Anthony Dixon then ran up the middle for 4-yards. EJ Manuel then threw a nice looking 40-yard pass to Robert Woods, but he tried to one hand it and dropped it. Jeff Tuel came onto the field and overthrew Marcus Easley. He then tucked the ball and ran with it for 5-yards. The offensive line then drew a false start penalty. Bryce Brown got the ball next and was stopped for a short loss by Ross Cockrell. Tuel badly overthrew the next pass and was intercepted by Duke Williams. EJ Manuel came back in with the starters and dumped the ball off to CJ Spiller for 5-yards. On the next play, Manuel appeared to have a miscommunication with Mike Williams as the ball fell where no one was. He then connected with Robert Woods for 16-yards. Anthony Dixon then showed off some nifty footwork and gained 11-yards. On the final play of the drill, Manuel connected with his favorite target, Sammy Watkins, for 5-yards.

For the final drill of the day, the team worked at the 5-yard line and worked on 7-on-7 goal line drills. EJ Manuel started it off with a nice pass to Mike Williams for the touchdown. On the next play, Manuel had no one open, so he tucked the ball and ran for 3-yards before going out of bounds. He then threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Chris Hogan who made a nice catch in the middle of the end zone. Manuel then went back to Hogan, but he couldn't get his feet in bounds and the pass was ruled incomplete by the referees. Jeff Tuel came onto the field and thought he had Kevin Elliott, but he didn't get his feet in bounds. On the next play, Tuel ran with the ball for the 5-yard touchdown. He then threw a pass to Elliott, but he dropped the ball. On the final play of the series, Tuel threw to Elliott again, but the pass was broken up by Kamaal McIlwain who made a nice play.

    Extra Points:

    1. Welcome Back, Marcell Dareus! It was nice to see him cheering and high fiving the players. He looked happy to be back out there and looked his old self when he flew by Erik Pears a few times during the team work. He also spend a while signing autographs for the fans, which they all appreciated.

    2. My player of the day is going to be Sammy Watkins until someone can shut him down. He's catching everything, until today when he dropped that one after Ross Cockrell broke it up. But he still caught everything else and is bailing out EJ Manuel several times each day on poorly thrown balls that he still manages to catch.

    3. Ross Cockrell did an excellent job out there filling in for Leodis McKelvin and if he keeps this up, he may earn even more reps. I noticed him several times throughout the night, tackling the running backs behind the line and also did a good job covering his receivers. He even got Sammy Watkins to drop his first pass in camp, when he stuck his hand in there and knocked the ball out during one play in the 11-on-11 drills.

    4. The backup Quarterback competition is interesting. I really thought Thad Lewis would step up. But it appears he doesn't want the job. He's looked terrible in the passing drills and the team 11-on-11 drills. Jeff Tuel hasn't done much better, but he still looks like he wants it more. I'm impressed with Tuel's long ball too. He's shown some nice touch on it.

    5. Props to Marcell Dareus, Sammy Watkins, Dan Carpenter, Ross Cockrell and several others who spent a lot of time signing autographs for the fans. It's always nice to see the players interacting with the fans after working hard for over 2 and half hours in practice.

Overall, it was another great day at St. John Fisher College. The weather was perfect and the atmosphere was pretty nice too. The stands were packed and the fans all appeared to be enjoying themselves. It was also nice to see Marcell Dareus return to the field. I can see him having another great year in this defense. I can't wait to see Dareus and Jerry Hughes harassing quarterbacks all year long.

  12. Thanks again Mike.

It's thrilling to hear how good Watkins looks. I'm also very encouraged at how Bryce Brown & Anthony Dixon look. We could have a monstrous running game.

Great to hear that Mario Williams & Jerry Hughes are causing pressure.

How does Corey Graham look? And I haven't heard a thing about Preston Brown. Any insight on him as well?

I'm so excited about all the new pieces on the offense. I love Sammy Watkins, and both Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon have impressed me. Cant wait to see them in live action.

Havent seen much from Graham. I'll try to watch him more. Preston Brown has looked good in the times I've seen him.
