  1. Flutie would have won that game if he were covering the kick off after Johnson led the Bills to the go ahead FG with almost no time left on the clock. Johnson won that game. ST lost it. Flutie sucked back then and still does.

RJ put up a stat line that game that was beyond pathetic in all aspects...... We would have been 20 points ahead with some decent QB'ing...... Anyone remember RJ getting sacked 6 times, throwing for 140 yards (yes good by today's standard), giving up a safety? I will say his 30 yards passing on the final drive was well timed.

The defense that day was superb, and deserved all the credit for keeping us in the game.....

Amazing that anyone still defends his performance that day.

  2. um, flutie was better than johnson. flutie went on to start for another team while rob after leaving buffalo, rode the pine for the rest of his career as a backup.

i see alot of gal gilbert in both edwards AND fitzpatrick. career backup material.

+1.... And then they screwed it up starting RJ vs. Tennessee...... Thanks to the Op for reminding me of 1999..... :P

  3. The Cowboys game was more the defenses fault than TE and the Pats game had nothing to do with Trent being the QB. Here's his stats from the Pats game THIS SEASON 15-25 212 2-0. TWO TDs.

The Pats game was padded on the last drive with one nice pass to TO (19 yards), which was followed up with 2 sacks and then a meaningless 25 yard desperation pass the final play and the laterals that ensued..... Otherwise it was another 170 yard day.

Sorry but how sad are Bills fans that they are excited about a game like that..... How about 22/31 for 320 and 3 TDs???? That will get my attention.

Also wow 5/5 43 yards and he overthrew an open TO (holding was called on the play).....

  4. Three of those losses were games where both QB's threw for 300 yards. Other losses include SD/Raven, where Philip Rivers threw for 430 and they were at the 10 yard line when the game ended. Washington losing to Detroit, again Washington was driving to win Carolina vs. Atlanta where Delhomme had a chance to tie the game late and Aaron Rogers and GB vs. Min where again if it was not for mistakes and a terrible line, GB also had a chance....

So there you have it, 300 yards in losses not necessarily just padding stats, which some pretend is the case.....

  5. Bottom line: without blocking you will be losing more than 74% of your games.

I love people upset with this stat and continue to salivate over running.... All I ask is for a few 300 yard games per season (6) and watch the difference it makes in all facets of the game.

Also note that some of the 300 yard pass game losses were vs. Opposing teams that also threw for 300 yards.....

BTW the #1 reason I want to see 300 passing yards is that it usually equates to an exciting/fun game.....

  6. Would DJ have been fired after the 2008 season? Would a new coach hired at the end of 2008 been the difference? Don't know, but couldn't be worse.

BTW how did the gap in the NFL become so huge? All teams were supposed to be 8-8..... This year the # of terrible teams is staggering.

Sorry if this has been brought up before.

  7. No, TO quit on the route and got pushed out of the way. A little effort on his part and it's a reception, not an interception. Go back and watch it again, that's what happened. The replay showed it clearly.

Yep, always someones fault...... O-line, receivers, coaching.....

  8. The second one, TO could have easily caught if he weren't shoved out of the way by the defensive back who, unlike Owens, actually felt like playing football yesterday. That toss was so catchable that Josh Reed would have caught it...which shows how utterly pathetic Owens' effort was.

The first one, though...entirely on Edwards. Dumbass didn't even look at anyone other than Evans on that play.

No it was a simple read by the DB. TO did not have a chance on the pass. A lousy read and a terrible pass..... Still waiting to see a pass that hit the receiver in stride that is not a screen pass.

  9. As he threw the first one, I could see it was going to be returned for a TD. The second one was also a much too easy read. TO caught one under thrown ball as did Lee Evans.

Have the TE apologists tried to convince people that they were under thrown on purpose?

    Really sad watching the team.

  10. I think the main problem is that the last two Bills QBs did not throw to their wide receivers unless they were wide open. It's almost as if throwing an interception is certain death in a game. This is no doubt a directive from the loser, play not to lose, never gamble head coach.

I watch other teams and their QBs are zipping the ball into very tight spaces. The Bills QBs never ever do this. They need to start calling some timing patterns, throwing the ball down field and telling the QB to start threading the needle to Owens and Evans. It's risky, but it's what all the successful teams do to win games.

To put it simply...Dick, Alex and Trent need to start gambling.

It's not gambling, it's what good QB's do. If they are being intercepted 20+ X's a season or throwing 3 bad int's per game then yes it may be gambling (see Derek Anderson Sunday). QB's have to throw tough passes at times. Take a look at this week's games, yes ints were thrown, but not a huge amounts and not by good QB's.....

  11. You've been beating this drum of 300 yards for three years now. When I saw this thread, I knew it was an AnthonyF special.

I do agree with you; I'm at a point where I'd rather just be entertained with a lot of passing, big plays, etc. than be in these "close games" that we at no point in time have any chance of winning.

Well done, good catch.... I know I have beaten this drum. What was interesting is when the love affair with TE started, no one cared, though I consider it a sad indictment on the Bills offense and the boredom that seemed to be part of every Sunday's Bills Game, even the wins were seldom fun. Today the stat was actually brought up on WGR550 from two of TE's biggest supporters Schoop and The Bulldog, which means some others finally see the significance of a 300 yard game.

Heck JP's gone, I'd be happy to see 300 yards from TE and a game where the chains are moving all game, few punts and 450+ yards of offense. A man can dream, can't he....

  12. I don't think that throwing for three hundred is in and of itself meaningful. Sometimes when you have those numbers it is because you are trying to play catch up while the other team is in "prevent" mode. What means more to me is having the ability to throw 300 yards when you need to. Yesterday Trent needed to be able to throw for 300 and clearly could not nor did not.

We can't do it when the other team is in prevent mode and there have been plenty of teams in prevent mode against buffalo over those 39 games.

I have commented that I'd like to see a 300 yard game, and don't think that is asking too much of a decent QB/team.

Think if the Bills have gone 39 games without a rusher gaining 100 yards in a game. Yesterday there were 8 300 yard passers and only 4 rushers over 100 yards.

  13. I know it is just a number and there are many here who have more interest in winning then enjoyable football, but it is a telling stat for a team that has a losing record.

Sure the Giants didn't need to throw for 300 yesterday to beat TB, and some games we really did not big offensive #'s, but wouldn't it be nice to watch a fun exciting offensive team. How much fun would it be to score 34 points a game on offense on a regular basis?

I watch football to be entertained and we have not seen many games we truly would call entertaining in a while.

  14. Please, Matt Stafford in his first career start put up points. Matt Kolb also threw for big yards, and so at home Trent and our offense can't get a single point!!!! Good thing we have Brian Morrman.....

Again TE had a good game vs. a lousy, lousy team (TB) and everyone calls it a great game. Then he delivers this. I won't blame him 100%, but the playcalling continues to be suspect and he refuses to throw it downfield.

Just amazing the inability to complete a pass to a wideout.

This was the first time in probably 3 years I picked against Buffalo in my pool (point spread) as I expected NO to score more... I expected to see a 41-24 loss..... Very upset with the O, but that is nothing new.....

  15. Congrats, you know how to use Google. Do you also know how to apply some reasoning to what you read? For example, did you see that the article you got the 25% number from was written in the 2005 season? So, its a bit dated generally and also pre-dates the rule change on stacking players on one side on the kick. Don't let that stand in your way though.

And the odds of kicking it long and forcing a fumble???? Damn that Belichek is a genius since it worked..... Fine, show me the stats.... I am sure it is higher then 10% over the past decade.
